Lillian Maxwell’s debut book, behind the smile and nod, is a collection of poetry based on her experiences as a teen. The book is split into four different sections separated by theme, this includes: my thoughts on the world, what i know about love, my monsters, and cried a river. Reading this novel, one will journey through the weight of difficult emotions the author has experienced and explore some of her thoughts and ideas. This poetry collection is meant to reach those who have felt lost, lonely, or ignored, and for anyone who has yearned to be understood. The author hopes to inspire readers to use writing as an outlet just as she has, as writing is what has been the light at the end of the tunnel for many who have been trapped in darkness.
