Little Jody has always had trouble making friends and now he’s had to move again. There is something in the woods near his new neighborhood that wants to be his friend, but friendship with the thing in the forest has consequences.
Jody, a young boy, faces difficulties in forming friendships because his family frequently relocates and his parents are often preoccupied with their own lives. Upon arriving in a new neighborhood, he hears cautionary tales about the forest located behind his cul-de-sac. Driven by curiosity, he ventures into the woods and encounters a mysterious being that seeks his companionship. However, this bond carries unforeseen repercussions, setting the foundation for a compelling narrative centered on themes of isolation, the desire for connection, and the mysteries that lie ahead.
The author described this story as “different” and it certainly is that. It had some twists and turns I didn’t see coming. As horror this novella is rather lowkey. It doesn’t have many of the normal elements of the genre and an ending which becomes more horrific the more you reflect on it. I still found myself thinking about this story days after I read it, a good sign that an author has done a very good job.
A creepy tale which will make you jump. Something in the woods wants to be his friend but what is it? How will it all go? See just what is it in the woods and what it really wants I received an advance copy from hidden gems and it made me jump
