The title said “progressive fantasy”. Nothing is progressive in this story. It took me a lot of will to finish this book. The lead character is not progressing and its background is unknown except that he’s an orphan. His character is very oppressive to the point of being stagnant from the beginning. I’m not sure if I can recommend this book because it has no redeeming factor to look forward to
Mc was shat on in previous book. In this book nothing changed, people still shit on him and his response is to eat it, because its "better to ignore it". If thats your kink, go for it. Why so many fantasy protagonists suffer from several lack of spine & some basic assertivness?
The MC is a boring moron. Jori is the only interesting character and she's shallow. The magic system is fragmented and does whatever the author needs at any given moment. The world was interesting but largely ignored by the Moose. I had hoped for more growth and depth in a 2nd book but it got worse. I'm done with the underkeepers.
A great series! The characters are fun and feel like real people, some great battle scenes, and I LOVE the magic system, and how the MC is figuring it out as he goes.
Medieval wizardry and demonic intrigue interfere in an interesting way in the coming of age story of a young mage. All of it is smoothly mixed with a lot of fun. I am looking forward to the next book of the series.
I like the characters and the progression. The magic system is interesting, unique and has lots of room for growth. The writing was crisp, clear and engaging. I’ll definitely get the next book!
