**Best-selling cozy fantasy author Aly Hollis brings a gothic fantasy full of lush atmosphere and unforgettable inhuman characters.**
Meara is content to forage for medicinal herbs in the quiet of Sablewood forest, far from the bustle of her rural village. Her sister, Brenna, is the opposite, a bright, curious social butterfly. But when an attack triggers elemental fire magic within Brenna, the sisters are forced to flee into the fae lands they were taught to fear.
In the gilded Court of Autumn Harvest, Brenna is spellbound by the fae's animalistic beauty and unrestrained culture. She searches for the truth of their parentage, drawing the obsessive attention of Emrys, a vampire prince of the High Court.
Meanwhile, Meara struggles to master her magic. She finds herself caught between Cerne, a stag shifter Lord of Autumn, and his rival, Luce, the heir of the Court of Summer Light and the only one who can draw out her shadowy magic. Meara must decide whom to trust before war ignites between the fae courts and the newly allied human kingdoms.
🍄A retelling of Celtic mythology of the Morrigan (goddess of fate and death) and Brigid (goddess of home and healing) 🍄Seasonal fae courts filled with many types of faeries 🍄The MMC is a real villain (with blood magic) 🍄Unlocking and training to use new magics

One prophecy: two sisters with one being the light and the other being the dark.
Honestly, I still don’t know who is good or evil although I’m learning towards one individual. This book is packed FULL of beautiful world building so if you like that, you’ll enjoy the pictures she creates for you.
I personally struggle with third person books so I had to really focus to keep track in this one but enjoyed it overall.
I’m so grateful to Aly for the ARC of this book. That said, this is an honest review. I try my best to review based on the book and writing style not the “vibes” unless I explicitly say that.
TLDR: not for me, cozy romance, didn’t enjoy the writing style, felt like too many details taking away from the plot.
This story isn’t what the advertising promised. Cozy, yes, but it was overly descriptive, detailed, and with a climax that doesn’t arrive until around 75%. Dark? Not really. Unless we’re counting the occasional mention of shadows, there’s nothing here that feels dark. The fae/vampire character is mildly possessive, but nothing extreme or morally grey that makes you feel like they would do absolutely anything for the one they love. One sister is dark and the other is light, but we are told all of this rather than shown.
As for the romance… I struggled to find any real chemistry. I’m hoping we’re being “Tamlin’d” with Meara, Cerne, and Luce, because there’s tension with one and absolutely nothing with the other. I honestly forget that Cerne was even supposedly attracted to her - especially with the ending. Breanna’s arc worked a little better, but even then it leaned heavily on insta-lust. Still, I’m somewhat intrigued by where her story ended, especially since the reasoning given felt intentionally unreliable. At least the prophecy tie-in added a small layer of mystery.
I liked the idea of the plot, but the execution fell flat for me. I wasn’t hooked, it took me over three weeks to finish. The prophecy, clearly meant to be central, is introduced early and then ignored for large stretches before being brought back later. It didn’t make sense that no one mentioned it again after Luce, because you know that’s what they were all starting to question. The story didn’t feel fully developed. I was a little confused on the timeline, how easily the sisters came into the power even though they expressed difficulties, and how easily they accepted their family history.
And while the ending isn’t exactly a cliffhanger, it also doesn’t deliver a satisfying “big moment.” Although I’m unsure if I will continue this series I hope that the second book will be faster paced and focused on the sisters divided and the prophecy unfolding.
I was super lucky to receive a copy of this book directly from the author and I may have done a little jog when I got the email. Hollis has been on my to-read list with her Bracken Creek Wolves series for awhile now (I'm guilty of owning said books but not having sat down to read them yet, shame). But for this, I dived right in.
This is the first high fantasy from Holis and honestly, it was not a bad start. Not bad at all. Sisters Meara and Brenna are ripped from their world when they discover hidden magic within themselves. Now they must adjust to their new world with the fae and this comes a lot easier for one sister than the other.
I loved the family dynamics that Hollis played with here. We had the sisters and their mother, who you could tell right off were super close. But as the story progressed and the sisters learned more about their lineage you could see fractures. But while there were fractures within this family, there were roots growing elsewhere, especially for Brenna. I liked seeing how differently the two sisters took to the new world and how they both tried to adapt - or didn't.
Another thing I liked were the characters from the Court of Autumn Harvest. They were the first fae we met and I instantly loved all of them. They way they just welcomed the girls and wanted to help was honestly a breath of fresh air when it comes to fae stories where they mostly reject anything new especially when it comes to the human world. It was those subtle differences that kept this book fresh and alive. Plus Hollis's eye for detail in the world really helped you feel the world as well.
I think where I struggled to give it the full 5 stars was mainly the connections with the girls. While I did feel connected to them eventually, I think I just wanted a little more insight to their minds. We had so much detail about the world but when it came to the girls struggles and feelings, I felt we were told these more so than shown them. Mainly when they first came to the world - Brenna had magic, they were fae, they were accepted. It all felt very quick and it seemed that everything just worked perfectly.
But man that ending, whew! I cannot wait to see where this goes in the next book!
Raven rebel was an outstanding, delectable, and thrilling good time. You follow two young sisters as they embark on their journey to join the Faye realm. While one sister embodies the light, the other embraces darkness and shadows, and they match with 2 MMC’s so opposite that it throws you for a loop. I wanted to eat the words off of the pages because of Aly‘s descriptive and beautiful style of writing. Five stars to this comfy and cozy, cottagecore, Romantasy. I cannot wait to get my hands on the next book in this series!
I finished this book in two days (it would have been less if didn't also have a job). Since then, I've been trying to find the words to describe how I feel about this book. The only thing that comes to mind still is, WHAT?! Seriously, Aly, what did you do to me?! Anywho I've not had a single 5 ⭐️ read this year until now. I truly loved this. There were parts where I thought I had it figured out. Then I would be like, "Hold on, maybe I'm wrong." That is truly a delightful feeling coming from a person who is hardly ever caught unaware. This book is fabulous. I almost regret getting an ARC because now I have to wait forever for book two. 😭😭
Dark fae vibes, sizzling chemistry, and a heroine who doesn’t back down. *Raven Rebel* is pure magic with claws. Aly Hollis nailed the tension, the banter, and the worldbuilding. I’m already obsessed with Sablewood.
This book sucked me in!! 🤭 I absolutely loved the world building, the descriptions of the setting were thorough & made you feel like you were actually there. I also loved the characters, Tayen is my fav side character & I rly loved Meara (she might be my overall fav character from the book 🤭), also I can’t wait to learn more about Luce!! I loved the magic system in this world, & can’t wait to see how the FMC’s grow more into their magic. The book was fast-paced which I enjoyed, every chapter something was happening or new info was being learned, I found myself never getting bored. The plot was plotting!! 😆 I also loved the spice in this book, it had me blushing & giggling but it wasn’t overdone & didn’t take away from the plot. Overall I had a great time reading this book!! I would 10/10 recommend this book to all the fantasy book lovers & will def be re-reading it again when the second book comes out!! I can’t wait to read the second book & see where the series goes from here!! 🥰
Side Note: I REALLY love that the book included a character guide, it rly brought the characters to life knowing what they looked like!! I’ve never read a book with a character guide but it rly made the difference for me to connect with the characters!! Also I loved that a glossary was included so I knew I was pronouncing all of the names properly!! 😁
Thank you so much for the opportunity to read an ARC copy of this book!! I had an amazing time reading & cant wait to read the second book in the series!! 💖
Darkly Lush, Wonderfully Wicked, and Absolutely Addictive
Raven Rebel is everything I never knew I needed in a fantasy novel—gothic cottagecore atmosphere, rich Celtic mythology, elemental magic, and a morally gray MMC who is, quite literally, the villain. And somehow... I still rooted for him.
This story swept me away with its lush worldbuilding and cozy details, then gripped me with epic action and high stakes. Aly Hollis creates a realm that feels both ancient and alive, filled with haunting forests, sacred rituals, and fae magic that pulses on every page. I was especially drawn to the magical training montages and the way rituals and festivals were used to deepen the lore without slowing the plot.
Also, the Fae Lord with antlers? Instant favorite.
This was my first-ever ARC read, and I feel incredibly lucky that Raven Rebel was the one to break me in. It's moody, magical, and mesmerizing—with a sharp edge that kept me hooked from start to finish.
Highly recommend for fans of dark folklore, twisted romance, and stories where the lines between hero and villain are deliciously blurred.
10/10!!! This book was sooo good! I loved everything that had to do with this! The plot, the romance, the spying, & the characters! Please make this your next read! Can’t wait for the second book to come out! Thank you for letting me be part of the ARC community! You knew exactly what you were doing Aly! 💓🙏🏼
From the beginning I was sucked in. The world building, the characters, the twists, the magic system were all so beautifully done.
There was plenty of romance, and spice picks up towards the end. Which is perfect because the sisters have lived a pretty sheltered life up until meeting the fae.
I liked the dual POV for the sisters and their deep bond; although, I do wish the chapters were labeled to easily discern which sister I’m reading from, and not have to start reading the chapter to figure it out. But that one small complaint by no means takes away from the story.
I found myself continually trying to figure out what’s was going to happen next, and who is gonna end up with who - the unpredictably was refreshing. I cannot wait for the next book (especially after that cliffhanger…)!
holy crap did I fall in love with this book immediately it is absolutely amazing it keeps you on the edge of your seat there are Faye there are vampires there is a beautiful wonderful amazing FMC it is just all around amazing if you like high stakes fantasy with desire and a whole bunch magically deliciousness I would highly recommend reading this amazing book I cannot wait for my broke ass to save up enough money to get a signed copy of this extremely amazing book if I could give this author 10,000 Stars I absolutely would
Two sisters, Brenna and Maera, have discovered that they're at least part fae, and are learning how to use their magic. As they enter into different courts, they meet new rulers and soldiers that will help them, but they can't possibly know who they can trust.
Maera decides that she wants to be with their mother, and Brenna ends up being more connected to a particular far than she ever expected. Betrayal and secrets surround them, and they must fight someone else's war in order to survive, and find out the truth.
Really appreciated getting an early copy of this book. The plot line was very enjoyable, but the overly fast pace of writing & insta-attraction was not for me. I felt confused at a lot of points and had to flip back pages to decide if the scene had changed. I did enjoy the overall vibe and the opposite sisters, but I feel like both personalities were on the extreme side of good & bad and it became difficult to relate to both of them at times.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
Amazing read about twin sisters learning who they are and where they belong when their lives are turned upside down. With a war brewing and sides being taken the sisters must navigate their new found powers.
I LOVED this book! The characters were amazing! The world building was beautiful! Overall great writing so very captivating! Also Maera is badass I love her 😍

I love a high fantasy, I love the world building and sub plots and betrayals and all the details and depth that goes along with it but unfortunately this one just didn't fully hit the mark for me with the pacing issues and the so many descriptions of absolutely everything.
🌍 𝕎𝕠𝕣𝕝𝕕 𝕓𝕦𝕚𝕝𝕕𝕚𝕟𝕘, 𝕨𝕣𝕚𝕥𝕚𝕟𝕘 𝕒𝕟𝕕 𝕡𝕒𝕔𝕚𝕟𝕘: Firstly, there is nothing gothic about this at all, so if that's why you chose this book, then you will be disappointed. But there are cottagecore and cozy fantasy vibes, multiple courts, and an extremely wide variety of characters with a hugely varied amount of magical powers to match!
This book has some incredible world building, and the level of detail on the clothing, food, and locations was extraordinary. I envisioned every scene with ease, and each character almost felt alive as I pictured their movements and conversations. However sometimes this was a downside as a good editor could have cut this down a lot, I don't think we needed to know every single dish on the table at the banquet, or all the items on the table... it was lovely to read, but it felt like it stalled the reading progress a few times, pulling me out of the world.
The plot line was very enjoyable. But personally, the overly fast pace of the writing & insta-attraction was not well executed, the insta-love felt rushed, and, from the way it was leaning, I kept waiting for something to bite her in the tush and teach her a lesson in trust and kissing the first boy to show you attention..
The main issue of the book that had me taking breaks was the pacing. At the start of the book the POVs jumped from character to character but it read like a general third person pov rather than the view of 2 different people. I kept forgetting who was speaking as it was so varied and it was just hard to keep up. Then sometimes chapters or days just ended abruptly, and a new day started, leaving you a bit put out. Because of all this, I got confused a couple of times and had to re-read pages or even flick back a couple of pages to understand what was going on.
It was an enjoyable read but Only 1 thing happened in the first 52% >yes, really! Right at the start, we are given drama and forboding and life-threatening issues, which pulled me in and had my emotions attaching to the sisters. But after that situation, there is no more drama or twists until you hit the 52% mark. Then, for the second half of the book, it felt like a lot of very big plot points and twists were just mentioned and solved/ moved on from. plus the timing of these were off. Speaki g of those twisty luttle twists-there was very little build up to them, so when they did happen, they didn’t have any shock or awe to them, which left them feeling insignificant or trivial, which they shouldn't have been.
The author was very good at pointing you one way while taking you another, One of the things i enjoyed the most in the story was that it wasn't immediately obvious who the love interests would be. I am so used to romantasy plots being clear cut with who likes who that it was truly enjoyable to be kept guessing with all the flirting and the sheer number of characters in the story. Even at the end of the book, I was questioning who was going to be with who or if one courtship would end in exchange for another.
I found the magical system interesting and varied. It was also a great addition that mated pairs can share each other's magic. There was a great amount of variety in the characters, from their looks to personality, their type, and of course, their powers, which was fascinating.
🧝♂️ ℂ𝕙𝕒𝕣𝕒𝕔𝕥𝕖𝕣𝕤: There were a great number of main and side characters in this story, I really enjoyed the variety, but I found it difficult to connect with some of the characters. The pictures of the characters and their courts was a hugely welcome addition, I got a little confused but it was super easy to flick back and remind myself who was who whenever I needed to.
I thought friendships/loyalties and courtship were going to go one way but then went another, I liked that it wasn't predictable but there wasn't any closure or wrap up between one love interest and the next so it seemed like some were being stringed along and that sub plot wasn't quite over.
Unfortunately, some characters' actions and conversations were often blazàe and ordinary and just boring sometimes, therefore not needed in the story. as i mentioned at the start we got great descriptions, but also of insignificant things, and the sisters would just be having general conversations where their thoughts and emotions were often repeated over again to get the point across but it could have been refined with a good team
😥 𝕎𝕙𝕪 𝕟𝕠 𝕗𝕚𝕧𝕖 𝕤𝕥𝕒𝕣𝕤? I really enjoyed the book on the whole, particularly after the first 52% when we got some high stakes, drama, tension, and action happening. But the fact it took me 5 days to read this shows me how many times I put it down and that I wasn't desperate to keep turning pages.
⏳ 𝕎𝕠𝕦𝕝𝕕 𝕚 𝕣𝕖-𝕣𝕖𝕒𝕕 𝕠𝕣 𝕣𝕖𝕔𝕠𝕞𝕞𝕖𝕟𝕕? Yes, I would absolutely recommend it, but not to anyone who prefers gothic or dark fantasy. Those that like the cozy side of the genre but with more high stakes and twists will love this. I don't think I'd re-read it no, not unless I needed a recap before the next one anyway- which I will definitely be reading!
🪧𝔽𝕚𝕟𝕒𝕝 𝕥𝕙𝕠𝕦𝕘𝕙𝕥𝕤: If you love cottagecore, forest fae, girls standing their ground and political intrigue, then this is for you! For a first book, this is well written, and I am excited to see how the author grows through this series as I expect book 2 will only get better!
⭐️⭐️ I managed to finish it but it was rubbish. I won't keep a physical copy and won't recommend it, but it's a shame as the plot could have made a good book in another authors hands
⭐️⭐️.5 It was OK. I wish i didn't start this one as It didn't do it for me as I struggled to read it. It had an interesting premise that fell flat but I had to see what happened in the end.
⭐️⭐️⭐️ I don't regret reading it, and I will read the next one, but this one did have a few flaws. [These could be repetative writing, gaps or plot holes, better character growth or world building, areas needing more detail] Generally, the book lacked depth and became confusing. The plot resonated with me even though it annoyed me on the whole.
⭐️⭐️⭐️.5 I'm glad I read it. I enjoyed it and would recommend it to the right people, but I wanted more! Sadly, it's easily forgettable with a few issues I just couldn't overlook/get past.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Good book! I loved it, but... I needed more! I really did enjoy it, but it had a few parts that needed more detail or added history/background or lore. But that's because the story or characters were memorable, and the plot was strong with brilliant twists. I would re-read if I needed to catch up for the next book and would recommend.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5 Great book! I truly wish the story had been thought about more, or the author had been given more time as this book is so close to brilliance! I will likely read again and will definitely be recommending to all!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ WOW! Absolutely amazing book! Well written with great characters and a plot so memorable that it will stay with me. I will definitely read this again, I will be recommending it and sharing it with the whole world! Also- I NEED A PHYSICAL COPY!
🔥⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️🔥 This is my God level tier. The book must be perfectly memorable. Even after reading 50+ more books, I will remember character names and emotions along with the plot. If there is a special edition, then I need to own it! If there is a conversation on books- I'm talking about this!

There were some really unique aspects to this book that I loved. It's dual POV, from two sisters. I loved getting to hear each sister's experience and their bond was sweet and well done. It felt very like my own bond with my sisters. I also enjoyed the mystery surrounding the relationships in the book. Unlike a lot of romantasy, it want immediately obvious who the love interests for the sisters would be. Even by the end of the book, I still find myself questioning and anticipating plot twists in the second book. I like that it wasn't predictable.
The world building is well done and I found the magical system interesting in that magical folks who pair up can then share each other's magic. It has different types of fae with different powers as well.
This was an intriguing first book and I'm definitely looking forward to diving more in to the world and story in the next book!
ARC provided by Nerdfam in exchange for an honest review.
I received this book as a ARC copy and was excited to dive in. I enjoyed the world building and the author had an amazing gift for giving a lot of detail whether it was about the environment, the dresses, hair styles, everything. There was a lot of little details built into the book that I could easily get a good picture for where we were, what it looked like, what the girls saw.
The pacing of the novel was really good, I never felt bored or that there was a lack of movement. One scene flowed into another rather quickly and easily which made it an easy read. I was able to pick it up and put it down again without trying to remember where I was and what was going on. The magical aspects of the novel were super interesting to me, I really enjoyed the fae having lots of different abilities and how they all manifest differently. I wouldn't have minded knowing a bit more about manifestation because the girls, Brenna and Meara, got their powers late due to a heavy enchantment.
There were so many characters and I felt that Hollis did a great job fleshing out a massive world. The story moves through various locations so you're constantly meeting new people, seeing new places, and watching the girls experience different things. No two characters were alike and their love interests were not either. Every character had their own personality and some of them (looking at you Taeyn) had whole stories outside of the main characters. I enjoyed that there were many side characters that you actually got to know a little bit because sometimes the side characters are created as a stepping stone for plot and aren't actually utilized.
I did have a couple critiques for the novel. The first one was that I felt the love interests didn't make sense to me. Especially Meara and Cerne. I wanted so badly to see their chemistry come off the page. They never went on dates, or had any real alone time, to develop any feelings outside of physical attraction and I just felt like that could have been developed a bit more with some light hearted side adventures. I wanted the to want each other because you could feel the tension as soon as they met I just didn't feel as though it fully was developed in the writing.
Second thing, was the dual POV. The novel switches from Brenna's perspective to Meara's perspective each chapter. But, there were a lot of times I couldn't remember who's perspective I was reading from because they all kinda seem the same. Not that the characters are the same, Hollis did a great job of allowing them different voices and being very different characters, but the narration seemed like a narration rather than a POV. Perhaps labeling the chapters with Brenna or Meara might have helped, I'm not sure, it's a small critique just something I noticed along the way.
Overall, I enjoyed the novel and look forward to what happens next. I'm really putting all my hopes on the Dark Lord (just saying Hollis incase you're still writing, we can be besties and plot this out together! Haha) but overall, I am intrigued enough to see the next book come out and would very much like to see what happens with Meara (she's my favorite character in the whole novel).
Also, On a side note, the title of the book didn't make sense until you were almost done and then it clicks. Bravo, Hollis, bravo! Love when stuff like that happens in a book. Anyway! I've been wordy again, so I'll close this out with definitely worth the read and will be following Hollis in the future for any other books she's going to add to this!
Raven Rebel gives the perfect combination of cozy cottagecore and dark fantasy vibes.
The two FMC's, Brenna & Meara, are sisters and polar opposites. One is pure sunshine, the other is the Shadow Mommy I never knew I needed in my life.
There is so much to love about this book including the MMC's: an Autumn Lord with antlers, a grumpy Prince of Summer (who helps in a way no one else can), and finally the walking red-flag Vampire Prince with blood magic who you can't help but be intrigued by.
The worldbuilding is beautifully written and meticulously detailed. You feel like you are right there with the sisters as they navigate this new life they’ve been thrown into while struggling to let go of their old one.
I had the best time reading this book and that ending has me ready for book 2!
Huge thank you to Aly Hollis for the ARC of Raven Rebel! You have created a world and characters I’m obsessed with!
Wow, this book was so refreshing! In a sea of romantasy novels it is hard to find something that feels different and this book really did that. It is a cozy romantasy with multiple main characters and set in a magical world with cottage and nature vibes. It follows two sisters navigating an unfamiliar world of fae courts that they are suddenly thrust into. The story moved right along and kept you wanting to see what would happen next. The character development was great, but leaves room for more revelations in future books, which I think is a good thing! I do think there were a few parts that seemed like I was missing something. Like maybe a scene could have been added to fill in gaps about how certain relationships were progressing in the background or maybe this was done intentionally to leave you wanting to know more later! All in all I am glad I read this and I am so excited to see what is next in book two!
Thank you so much to Aly Hollis for the opportunity to read Raven Rebel as an ARC! All views are my own.
For readers who adore the sprawling worlds and intricate relationships of popular romantasy, Aly Hollis's "Raven Rebel" is a must-read. It delivers on the genre's promise with vibrant characters and impressively detailed world-building, solidifying its place alongside favorites like "ACOTAR" or "Fourth Wing." "Raven Rebel" employs a dual point-of-view narrative, uniquely focusing on the sisters Meara and Brenna. Hollis excels at differentiating these two protagonists, endowing each with their own compelling voice, perspective, and personality. This approach enriches the story by offering multiple lenses through which to experience the plot.
Hollis's writing style is notably descriptive, painting vivid pictures of everything from breathtaking landscapes to elaborate attire and mouth-watering meals. This meticulous attention to detail is a considerable asset, significantly enhancing the reader's immersion and contributing to the rich, tangible world-building that is a hallmark of the book. 4.75 🌟
Raven Rebel starts out strong with amazing characters and a detailed world. I have not enjoyed a fantasy book as much as this one for years. the story, the characters, the world they live in ah e all been done exquisitely. You get to enjoy watching characters grow into themselves, learn how to love, and how to think on their own. Aly Hollis did an unbelievable job with the Raven Rebel, I would recommend this book to anyone who loves fantasy with a little romance, adventure, magic. A must read.
This book starts out with soft sister vibes and cottagecore calm, and then suddenly you’re sprinting through the woods with a mob on your heels, wondering if the handsome antlered stranger is going to save you or sell you. And honestly? I loved the chaos of it all.
Meara and Brenna are the heart of this story. Meara is the classic grumpy forest girl who definitely knows which plants can kill you. She gives off “I do not want to talk to anyone ever” energy but would burn the world down for her sister. Brenna is the softer one, sweet and hopeful and just trying to keep everyone alive with scones and good intentions. Together, they balance out the plot with humor, love, and just enough danger to keep you guessing. If these two asked me to help them hide a body, I wouldn’t even ask questions. I’d pack snacks.
The fae world they crash into is magical in that quietly menacing way. The forest feels alive and ancient and possibly judging your life choices. The fae are tall and glowing and say deeply suspicious things in silky voices while standing too close. Cerne, in particular, has the audacity to show up shirtless, with antlers, offering help and zero explanations. He has very little chill, but somehow it works for him. I get it, Meara. I do.
The writing is atmospheric and grounded, with enough small sensory details to make you feel like you’re right there in the damp underbrush, running for your life in muddy boots. It’s full of cozy little moments, then suddenly full panic, then a tender scene, then betrayal or magic or someone being way too handsome to trust. It’s a ride. But like, one of those slow spooky carnival rides where you think you’re fine until something grabs your ankle.
My one tiny complaint is that a few plot beats felt familiar if you read a lot of fae fantasy. There were a couple moments where I knew exactly what was coming. But honestly, I was having too much fun to care. The characters make it fresh and the sister dynamic is what really sets this one apart.
This is perfect if you like: • Girls who will threaten you with a knife and then pick berries for you • Forests that might be portals or problems or both • Enemies to maybe allies to “what are we even” romantic tension • Magic that looks pretty but also might explode if you’re not careful • Characters who say they have a plan when they clearly do not
It’s earthy, dangerous, emotional, and just the right amount of fae nonsense. If you like your fantasy with heart, humor, and a healthy dose of “what is even happening,” this one’s worth the read.
This is a great book with loads of interesting characters and great world building! It seems very much in line with the standard romantasy worlds we know and love, so if you like ACOTAR, Quicksilver etc. this will definitely be your next favourite!!
✨Duel POV/ Writing Style✨ Unlike most romantasy books, Raven Rebel follows two-sisters Meara and Brenna simultaneously. Hollis does well to create two contrasting characters, both with their own perspectives and personalities. At times, the third person, duel pov does get a little confusing to remember who you’re following when referring to pronouns. Some chapters it clear you’re following one sister, but others it gets slightly trickier.
The writing style is very descriptive. From scenery, to clothes, to food, there is so much detail. This is great cause it really helps develop the world-building. Occasionally, I think we do get wrapped up in the description that we loose some of the journey however.
✨Romantic Interests✨ It’s nice to see the girls have two different journeys with who they’re interested in. I’m gonna start with Brenna… who ends up falling for Emrys - who in all honesty I didn’t warm too (and I’m not sure if we’re meant to or not). He gave untrustworthy vibes and their relationship as a whole felt very rushed (which I know is meant to part of the ending). Overall I’m very interested to see where Brennas story goes after this first book but I’m weirdly apprehensive as to her love story 👀
Meara I adore and think her love interests were set up very well… Meara and Cerne’s initial interest did seem mostly physical however, sometimes that’s just what life’s like lol… I’m very intrigued to see where Meara and Luce’s relationship goes as I think they may form a ‘deeper’ bond moving forward. There’s lots of scope to play with and I did enjoy that although Mearas relationships were an aspect of her arc, she has a lot of growth alongside them
✨Other Characters✨ There’s so many great characters in this book (which at points you get get slightly who’s who’s again) but they really add to the massive world we’re living in (think game of thrones with all the families)
✨Tropes✨ Gothic Cottagecore Vibes Celtic Mythology Faeries vs. Humans Found family Elemental Magic Duel POV
This book was absolutely amazing. The story begins with twins, Brenna and Meara, living with their adoptive mother. The girls may be twins but couldn’t be more different. Meara is perfectly content helping her mom in the apothecary. Whereas, Brenna wants to get out in the world more. She is a nanny for a local Lord. Brenna has no idea that shortly after taking this job her life will be forever changed. She becomes angry when her boss tells her other things will be included in her duties. Her anger causes magical things to happen, which will send Brenna and Meara running for their lives. They soon discover they are Fae. Their mother encourages them to go to the Fae realm and embrace their heritage. Brenna has no problem learning how to use her magic. But Meara cannot seem to bring out her magic. Brenna embraces the fae life, and doesn’t want to go back to living with humans. Meara is very discouraged, and wants to be with her mom.
Meara discovers her magic quite by accident also. As she learns more about her magic and how to control it, she makes a shocking discovery. Meara wants to see her mom, and she shows up unexpectedly. While at the human village she hears that war is soon to be fought between the Fae and the humans. Both sisters are torn apart with decisions needing to be made. The war begins and Brenna and Meara have more life changing events.
Aly does an amazing job with the world building. Her words are so descriptive, I felt like I was in the story. As each new character is introduced, you can imagine exactly what they look like, and their personalities. I loved the banter between the characters. This book was so good, I cannot wait for the next book in the series. The cliffhanger left me saying OMG when is the second book coming out? I can’t recommend this book enough. And I thank Aly for giving me an ARC copy to read.
Absolutely, yes, everything was just such perfection and so much fun!!
You are going to follow two sisters and they couldn't be more opposite. One delights in the light, and the others shadows in the dark. Their love for each other and their connection was fun to read and we will follow them on their journey as they try to join the Faye Realm. This story is true fantasy in every way and you are completely transported right there with these characters.
The worldbuilding alone, is a 5 star. The ability to truly make this world come alive the way that Aly did was a masterpiece. There are so many cozy details that I loved, especially next to the morally gray of the MMC, the meshing of the two was captivating. You will find yourself yearning for this villain through and through. I honestly wish I could create this world to you, it's lush and full of so much unique magic, plot and twisted romance, I was truly transported in my mind to this realm. Like I was reading a movie in a way? The spice was oh so good but not enough to distract from the memorizing 'coziness' vibes of the story, which I loved.
Everything about this you will love, I have never turned pages so fast. It is a fast paced read itself and the best part to me also was the character guide. It just enhanced the vivid imagery of the story as you went. I'm at a loss for words to even keep going, it's a must read is all I really have to say!
Cozy romance, morally gray mmc, magic system, haunting forests, high stakes, spice, cottage core and so so much more!!
Fall is my favorite season, so it's no wonder that I fell in love with the Raven Rebel. Most of the story takes place in the Autumn Court. The descriptions are incredibly vibrant and beautiful, and you know that the fae have decadent taste. The scenes easily came alive, making me wish I were really there.
The story centers on sisters Brenna and Meara, who are as different as night and day, as they go on their adventure through Faerie. It's all about self-discovery and learning an entirely new world. I love the bond that the sisters have. They love, support, and encourage one another with every breath they take. There were plenty of interesting characters. Rakish Cerne, bright Tayen, friendly Xurey, and more. They have a wide variety of personalities and histories that keep things interesting.
What started off as a light, cozy fantasy soon took a turn. Things happened that I didn’t expect, and both Meara and Breena made some decisions that I did not agree with, but I understand that they're still figuring things out. Towards the end, I was left on a knife's edge. Big events are happening, and once again, the sisters' world is upended, and now I'm wondering who the sisters can trust. I have an ominous feeling that I can't shake. Those final few chapters left me reeling. I can't wait to get my hands on the next book. If you're looking for your next romantasy, then I recommend giving this book a try.
Wow I’ve had this book waiting for me to read it for months and it did not disappoint. Aly did something incredible and sucked you into the world of her fantasy and it was soo good! Two sisters unlock long lost secrets about their lives and they are fae with baddie powers!! Not to mention all the men they have running around them either! Yummy! Emrys whew he’s a villain in his own right but a sweetie for his girl! And cerne well I liked him at first but by the end of the book I wanted to smack him. But then we have Luce and I am team Luce now he was a real man. So many different magical courts we have going on and all of them were perfection, I loved all the characters except for Luce’s mother she can go walk off a cliff oops. 🤷🏼♀️ now our main girls we have Brenna and Meara and they are both different in their own ways which is important with twins. I loved how Brenna stepped into her own and became the protective sister through some instances in the book and you saw Meara retreat it was like their roles had reversed when entering the fae world. The entire dynamic of their relationship I loved but I’m scared about what’s going to happen to their relationship in the next book but I’m looking forward to discovering but hoping their relationship will defy the prophecy of their lives. This world was an amazing experience we did have war and we did get spice. 10/10. Everyone please go read it releases on September 2nd!
I really enjoyed this book and was grateful to have received an ARC from the author. From the very beginning, I was drawn into the rich world-building—beautifully immersive and detailed enough to feel tangible without being overwhelming. I especially appreciated the inclusion of a character list and the courts they belonged to; it made the story much easier to follow and helped deepen my understanding of the dynamics at play.
The relationship between the sisters was one of the highlights for me. Their bond was beautifully developed, layered with love, conflict, and growth. It felt authentic and resonated emotionally throughout the book.
I would have liked to see a bit more character development. I wanted to know the characters on a deeper level—beyond the court banquets and ceremonies they attended. There were times when I found myself frustrated with both sisters, particularly when they jumped to conclusions or misunderstood one another. But in a way, that was one of the strengths of the writing—it felt real. Their flaws made them relatable, and those moments of frustration mirrored how things might actually unfold in real life.
Overall, Raven Rebel is a compelling read with strong emotional threads and a captivating world. I’m looking forward to seeing where the story goes next!
