This series is about"by Laura Greenwood and Arizona Tape, is the fifteenth installment in the 'Amethyst's Wand Shop Mysteries' series. This series is about Amethyst, a witch, and Detective Ambrose, who work together to solve crimes and fall in love. This story is much deeper and closer to home. Dementia impacts almost everyone in one way or another.
A man comes into the hospital claiming to be a vampire with a stolen identity. What starts out as a case of stolen identity quickly turns into multiple stolen identities and murders. This could be the saddest and most realistic case Ambrose and Amethyst have ever had to solve. The conclusion will have you wondering who the real victim is.
The darkness of this case is lightened by the chaotic Amethyst/Topaz family's wedding plans and babies.
Readers will have a better experience reading the entire series in order. That said, each mystery can be read as a standalone, but you will miss the growth of the characters and their evolving relationships with each other.
The epilogue introduces what's to come in the next book in the series, 'Vows and Rows,' setting up an interesting plot that I look forward to reading." Amethyst, a witch, and Detective Ambrose working together to solve crimes and fall in love.
I received a free copy of this book from the authors and am voluntarily leaving this review. a review.
Intriguing murder mystery/ police procedural within a paranormal world. Very engaging plot and characters kept my interest. As an American, some terminology was unfamiliar, though context clues and some dictionary searches resolved any confusion quickly. I found it was easy to read stand-alone, but would have gotten more depth to certain interactions had I read all prior books in the series beforehand. Detective Ambrose and Amethyst (Amy/ Ames) work together to solve a particularly unusual case in this 15th book in the series. One case becomes multiple cases and I certainly agree with Amy’s sentiment on conclusion - not satisfying. Although the perpetrator is charged with the crimes, they are not the typical “bad guy”/“pure evil” doer and we’re left feeling sad all around. The Epilogue was a bit confusing after the last chapter as I would have thought we were seeing the wedding to match the bachelorette (hen do) party from that chapter and instead we are transported to another character’s wedding day and shockingly led into a dramatic cliff-hanger. Very few spelling errors, one instance of relation misnomer… calling a niece an aunt, overall any stumbling blocks could be British English to American English confusion on my part.
Comfy & cozy In addition to sleuthing, this book has a lot of family dynamics: bonding (and grimacing) over childhood memories, discussions whether or not to have children, favoritism, in-laws, pregnancy, the maturing effect of parenthood, wedding plans & marriages, etc. Even the murder suspect & victims have somewhat of a domestic aspect.
I simply adore how Amy and Topaz have come a looong way in their sibling relationship: ‘Once upon a time, I might not have given the advice, and let my sister shave off her hair just to see what it would look like, but we're in our thirties now, there's no need for anything quite that childish.’ I’d TOTALLY let my brother do something weird just for giggles, tho!
On a more serious note, the authors also gently touched upon mental & emotional illnesses and how the court system accommodates those. Much appreciated!
Looking forward to the next in series - ‘Vows and Rows’.
3.5 stars. Contemporary urban fantasy; Amy and Ambrose investigate a situation where a man admitted to a hospital claims to be a vampire named Jon Edwards but is found to be human. When they arrive at his home they find the rotting corpse of the real vampire Jon Edwards. Jon’s mother is in a care facility due to dementia but according to the nursing staff the imposter has been faithfully visiting the mother for months. The mystery deepens when they find more cases of men with mothers with dementia who have died under mysterious circumstances. While the premise was interesting, I didn’t find this book as compelling as some of the authors’ other series. However, fans of this series will appreciate the additional character development of the main and secondary characters. My thanks to the authors for providing me with an advanced copy of the book in exchange for and honest review.
This one was out there. Sort of like an episode of Columbo where you know who did it you just have to prove it. Here Amy and Ambrose find a man who’s stolen an identity and have to figure out if he’s a killer as well and why he’s done either. Then it gets weird. Loved the sweet moments with baby Gemma. I feel for both Amy and Topaz when they get that surprising announcement from their parents and can I say eww it gives me the icks lol. The case was a definite departure and the unknowns made it quite fascinating. Like how even though it’s the PPD they still get bogged down in paperwork just like us mere mortals lol. Great read! I received an ARC of this book from the author and am voluntarily leaving a review.
I think the nicest thing about Amy and Ambrose is that, no matter how far apart you read them, the characters feel like old friends who you're meeting again. This mystery leaned heavily on the paranormal, with a dead "vampire" (or person claiming to be a vampire?) who seems to have stolen someone's identity. Amy and Ambrose are puzzled at this, not least because the guy had been ingesting blood for no reason, as they try to figure out who their victim is and what possible motive there could be. Alongside their police cases, they have some personal things going on, include Topaz's new child, Stacey's upcoming nuptials, and their own engagement. It's fun to think that witches and warlocks have to balance day jobs, magic, and personal engagements. This one left off on a little bit of a cliffhanger, so I'll have to tune in to the next one to see the ending, but I'd definitely recommend for fans of paranormal cozies!
Another fun murder mystery for Amethyst and Ambrose to solve with a slow burn romance between plenty of humor.
I love how well Amethyst and Knight Ambrose work together, while developing their relationship at the same time. When they hear about a man claiming to be a vampire they discover more than one body and a confused killer. There's also plenty of fun with a surprise in the family and a necromancer's hen do.

Amethyst and Ambrose are on the case again but this time it truly is a bit backwards as they try to discover who the mysterious man is that checked into the hospital. Fun watching them figure it all out. Plus on top of that enjoyed seeing Amy's family and the fun that always brings. A few laughs and interesting scenes to keep things hoping and fun as always. Easy to read and always enjoyable story and characters.
What a treat to go back to a new Amy and Ambroise's story! This was a short and captivating story filled with research, discoveries, a little magic and babies... If you've read the previous books in the series, you will not be disappointed and you might even find another side to Amy and her family...
I received this book as part of an ARC team and this is my honest review.
Another enjoyable adventure with Amy and Ambrose (Knight). I liked the challenge of trying to figure out the reason for the murders, and thought the case was well-executed. I would say there may be a little trigger regarding parents with early onset dementia, but as always, the authors are respectful with any parts of the story that reference that topic. This is a series that's always a joy to read, nice and quick when I want something not too heavy.
The very sweet slow burn romantic subplot continues, and there’s another murder mystery for Amy and Ambrose to solve that is chilling and heartbreaking in equal measure. This book is an excellent addition to the series.
I received an Advance Review Copy (ARC) of the ebook, and I’m leaving a voluntary review.
Amethyst and Ambrose have a tangled trail to unravel when a hospital patient claims to be a vampire, but the doctors disagree. And the…the bodies start showing up!
Witches, necromancers, and mages, oh my! This book has them all, plus some interesting twists. I received an advance copy, but my review is honest and voluntary.
Another case for Amy and Ambrose, and it’s a real headscratcher! Plus Amy’s parents have some surprise (and not entirely welcome!) news, Topaz and Steve are getting used to life with a new baby, and Stacey has her hen do. And with an intriguing epilogue, I’m definitely looking forward to the next book!
Well I do not understand why the story is called “Voices and Choices”. An unusual crime. Very interesting though. I was surprised how it turned out. Most of these stories in this series could be true. Except for the paranormal stuff that is. I enjoyed how they figured out the how's and way's. Good one.
Bit of a twist to things. This was a bit slower paced and more of a thinking game. We get a hint into why the person does what he did but not a real answer... and surprise in the middle of the story, whoa!!! Not at all a turn I expected, lol? Fun story though and looking forward to the next episode!
This book weaves together family ties, hospitals and paranormal investigations into a mysterious vampire, creating a truly intriguing and enigmatic read. A dash of magic and beloved characters further enhances the captivating tale.
Another great book in the series. Amy and Ambrose have a strange case with a serial killer who doesn't know who he is. There is a surprise in the family, a necromancer hen do and lots of Rover! Looking forward to the next one: vows and rows.

Amy and Ambrose take on a baffling case that starts with a stolen identity. A hospitalized man claims to be a vampire but tests prove he’s not. Searching the address on his ID turns up a body shifting the case into a murder investigation. But following the clues turns up a perplexing connection to an internet chat group for caregivers of dementia patients. As they try to figure out who the man in the hospital really is, they follow a trail through some cold cases in other departments with similar m.o.s. Is there a paranormal serial killer on the loose?
This was probably Amy and Ambrose’s most bizarre case and definitely one of the sadder ones all around. Touching on the effects of trauma, dissociative disorder, and the difficulties in caring for a loved one with dementia, it’s easy to see how the case affected Amy the way it did. Despite the tragedy of the case itself, the authors do a wonderful job with adding in lighthearted and uplifting moments as well. The growth of the characters throughout the series shines through here, especially in Topaz & Steve’s marriage and their new parenthood. Amy’s parents show up to add their own chaos to the scene, dropping a major bombshell on everyone. Amy continues her soup making endeavors with some interesting combinations. I would love to see a cookbook of all her recipes. And wedding plans come together for Gavin and Stacey, with Amy and Ambrose also closer to setting a date.
