Rabbit’s actions might seem a bit strange at first, but there’s a reason behind them... Rabbit has something called “OCD.”
Dear Facing OCD One Hop at a Time is a children’s book that introduces young readers to obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). It sheds light on the confusion of living with OCD and the difficulty of seeking help from those who might not fully understand it.
The book explains how OCD can manifest in various ways, such - Arranging - Collecting - Checking - Cleaning - Rumination
Most importantly, it emphasizes the value of exposure and response prevention (ERP), a leading treatment for OCD that empowers individuals to confront their compulsions and break free from the obsession-compulsion cycle. While OCD can seem overwhelming, the right knowledge and tools can help individuals thrive and reclaim their joy.
As someone diagnosed with OCD, JoBeth Grigg understands its complexities. Having undergone transformative exposure response therapy herself, JoBeth is passionate about sharing hope and support with others facing OCD.
This is an absolute must-read! As an adult with OCD, this book genuinely validated my struggles and reminded me that there’s hope. Though it’s written for children, it accurately portrays the diverse ways that OCD can present itself, making it incredibly relatable for adults too. There are so many misconceptions about OCD and I wish there were more resources like this out there. Whether you have OCD yourself, are a parent of a child with it, or are a professional in the field, this book provides an amazing and gentle introduction to such a complex disorder. If my kids end up having OCD, I will definitely be using this book as a tool to begin introducing them to what OCD is and the best way to face it. Also, I love how the illustrations are minimalist yet warm and unique. I only wish I'd had a resource like this growing up!
