4.5 - excellently written and a really interesting insight into Will’s mindset towards exploring the hills. I relate ever more with his attitude towards making your own route and freeing oneself from the baggers route we all know so well. His interactions with wildlife such as stags and eagles back this up. I think he promotes a more liberating way of spending time on the hills, simply look at a map and decide where to go, rather than follow the ‘must do’ route from social media. Not only is this enjoyable but it spreads the footfall and reduces erosion on highly concentrated paths. Also enjoyable to read about someone else’s personal challenges. I have made many personal challenges myself, both on local hills and the big ones around the UK, but reading about someone’s else’s version, in this case their own ‘big rounds’, was enjoyable. Finally, the photography alone is stunning enough to make this book a worthwhile peruse.
