Absolutely enjoyed reading this book, Hazel goes go to work in the Dewars House in Broughton (Cotton Mill Owners) , but Hazel has Daughter Alice who she leaves with her mother while she is working but her mother drinks too much and does look after Alice properly so she ask if she and Alice can live in the Servants quarters in the big house.
Alice gets to know the Dewars Son Silas they become great friends but then Hazel and Alice’s world is torn apart by deceitful lies by Salis’s Uncle Buddy.

A Wonderful Book!!!
Live does conquer all. This one was so hard to put down even though I was falling asleep late at night while reading it. So much happened in it that it's hard to put in words except, "live does conquer all.

a reasonable clean read
This story spans years, yet we are never told the years.
There is a lot of anger, hate and murderous attempts made, so you have to wade through all that anger.
It was a happy ending, but I found it overshadowed by all the anger throughout the story.

Twisted tale of brothers who wanted to protect their sense of class and money. Both are destroyed. Son inherits eventully.
