Excellent resource for parents of children with all special needs, not just autism. I used this book to find apps that my child would be interested in and learn from, that are fun as well as have a functional purpose. There are really simple, yet serve their purpose, communication board apps, choice apps, all for dollars each, compared to hundreds of dollars. It's a good place to start before purchasing the pricey communication devices that can run $100-$300 each. You can also find apps that will help your child with Academic skills and teach how to isolate fingers and help with fine motor skills.

Only problem is the book needs to be constantly updated because new apps are developed every day. But, this is a good starting point if you have an iPad and a special child.

Marginally useful for those using a school system iPad that can only accept free apps. Most of the free apps listed were social skill or reinforcing apps to use with my highest functioning guys, my lowest functioning guy is pretty left out. Better resource for parents seeking apps for their devices who have sizable iTunes-linked credit card limits.

I wasn't surprised that I'd already owned quite a few of the apps in this book, but it did point me in the direction of a few more that will help me out. It is particularly helpful that the book provides both the description of the app from the app publisher, as well as an 'ireview' that suggests ways the app can be used to fit your needs.

A friend loaned me this book. What a waste of money it would be to buy. 12 months old and most apps that i looked up were no longer available, those available had little or no reviews. Google "Apps for autism" and find up to date lists.

Terrific book! We keep a copy in our Assistive Technology office and refer to it when preparing iPads for students receiving special education services.
