I’m always very leery about books with witches or showing witches in a positive light. Because of this and some comments I didn’t care for, I’ve decided to not rate this book as it would be difficult to rate.

Elowyn is the daughter of a witch and a magic user herself with one purple eye that shows it to everyone. At first, I thought she was more of an apothecary that could also enchant items which I would have personally been okay with to a degree, but as the book continues there was more about spells and writing runes on the floor to move onto the items. This was uncomfortable to me, but it’s said she works with good magic as opposed to sorcerers that work with dark magic. I didn’t quite understand all of that, but I appreciate that Elowyn refused to kill anyone or use her magical skills in that way.

I really liked the writing style of this book, the humor, and the pacing. It’s about 250 or so pages which is on the shorter side for me so it flew by because of that but also the pacing which was well-done. I will definitely be checking out other books by this author because I was impressed with these parts of the story.

I never enjoy a love triangle, but because I’m always good for a childhood-best-friends-to-more trope, I knew who I would be cheering for. I wasn’t sure how it would end at times because the two guys had their peacock moments (which I laughed when someone called them peacocks because that was exactly what I was thinking) and there were more pressing moments that matters of the heart happening. *Spoiler* .

Acorn the Hedgehog was fully what interested me into reading this book and he was great, just as I hoped.

There were a few…cruder comments that I preferred, though, that also hindered my enjoyment of the book (such as FMC raising her finger in a crude gesture or the trio being told to “get a room”). I did enjoy quite a few parts of the book and got interested in the story, but there were definitely some caveats about it as well that I didn’t like.

Main Content-
Elowyn is a witch and a magic user, she is able to create enchanted items by drawing runes and saying spells (all of this is on-page); Elowyn’s pet hedgehog is called her familiar once (not confirmed or denied); A witch has to have a license for practicing magic (which Elowyn doesn’t think is right because no other field requires it and there’s a few discussions about it); It’s said that enchantments are meant to do good, but curses do bad; Elowyn makes enchanted items (such as necklaces to make a girl stand out, a log to keep away pests for farmers, for good fortune, to have a source of light, and a bag to have a deeper bottom) & potions for jokes like sneezing and shrinking potions; Elowyn hears a magical orb talk to her and it later speaks through her to another; Elowyn and the others shrink themselves thanks to one of her enchantments (and then have to fight off rats) & she makes a gust of air via a spell.

Elowyn often refers to her mother’s grimoire when researching spells or runes; Elowyn has always been able to talk to animals (and thus doesn’t eat meat because of it); Elowyn has injuries healed from a waterfall that is said to have healing properties; Elowyn and the others face a threatening troll (which threatens to eat them or her donkey).

Witches or sorcerers with more power can make a windstorm out of nowhere, a lightning storm, or even create a fireball; Fairies who begin to entertain dark or evil thoughts start to “lose their light” when dims their appearance and become hags.

A prince is turned into a frog after touching a golden orb and comes to Elowyn for help (the main part of the plot); Elowyn hopes there’s “some god or goddess or magical godmother who can give [her] an idea how to save [Kai], because [she] need[s] some divine intervention.”; Elowyn and the others find a fairy portal and go into the fairy realm (there they see many different creatures besides fairies like cyclops (which are known for eating humans), goblins, nagas, hags, and fairies who have lost their purity and have become evil; She feels waves of magic and darkness when taken to a prison there; She is also attacked by a creature that wants to eat her).

All about & many mentions of witches/wizards/sorcerers, magic, magic users, curses, spells, fairies and their glamours, fairy portals & grimoires; Mentions of other fantasy creatures like giants, dwarfs, & trolls (the latter is seen and threatens Elowyn); Mentions of a waterfall that has water with healing properties; A couple mentions of fate; A mention of bundles of sage for banishing a ghost haunting someone’s barn.

No language stronger than ‘stupid’ and ‘shut up’; Fictional phrases like ‘slugs if I know’, ‘slugs of the earth’, ‘muddy slugs’, ‘how/why/what in the five/four winds’, ‘four winds’, and ‘winds’ are said and exclaimed; Eye rolling & Sarcasm; Elowyn raises a finger in a “crude gesture” to someone.

Elowyn has a few negative thoughts about herself (such as she has no value or worth to anyone); Elowyn has a learning disorder (most likely dyslexia) and struggles to read.

Being bitten and attacked (brutally and very scary for the MC), Being locked up and in chains, Major pain, Injuries, Blood/bleeding (up to a handful of sentences); Seeing fights/fighting, someone knocked unconscious and killed (up to a few sentences); Seeing someone choked and almost killed (up to a few sentences); Seeing a hawk tear into frog (*Spoiler* ); A fairy man collects eyeballs as rings (he wants Elowyn’s purple one and she calls him disgusting).

Elowyn’s father walked out on her and her mother (while blaming Elowyn for being a burden and she feels like it’s her fault until someone says he was blaming her for his choices).

Mentions of wars & battles; Mentions of near deaths, fights/fighting, pain, injuries, blood/bleeding, & attacks; Mentions of arrests & prisons; Mentions of lies, lying, & liars; Mentions of rumors; Mentions of soldiers having tattoos; Mentions of a hedgehog eating worms, caterpillars, and moths (up to a couple sentences); A few mentions of hatred (such as Kai hating his father); A few mentions of drinking (which Garrett says every soldier does); A couple mentions of an attempted kidnapping; A couple mentions of bullies; A mention of an infant dying shortly after birth; A mention of an assassination attempt; A mention of drunks; A mention of pee.

1 hand kiss,
1 forehead kiss,
2 kisses lasting a sentence,
1 kiss lasting a couple sentences,
1 kiss lasting 4-5 sentences,
Seeing two forced kisses.

Touches, Embraces, Hand holding, Tingles, Warmth, Nearness, Smelling, Noticing, & Blushes (including noticing a man’s backside, muscles, and a shirtless man’s muscles and sweat, up to a few sentences); Waking up next to someone (closely and for warmth/comfort more so than sexual); A guy helps Elowyn change and asks permission to rip her dress to have access to her wound (she carefully covers herself and he looks away a couple times; Elowyn thinks this would be an intimate moment if she wasn’t bleeding); Flirting & Jealousy.

Someone comments that Elowyn, Kai, and Garret need a bedroom (“oh, you three really need a bedroom” and Elowyn blushes); Another fantasy creature (werewolf?) comments on Elowyn joining him in his prison cell; Another creature attacks Elowyn and while it’s implied he is after her flesh/blood and eating her, there are sexual undertones to the scene and she is unable to fight back;

Elowyn wonders if Kai is in his honeymoon suite after his marriage; Elowyn asks if Kai slept with his new bride; Kai teases Elowyn that he is technically naked in his frog form; Garrett pulls up Elowyn’s shirt and bodice to view her injury; Elowyn undresses and stays in only her under dress and undergarments which makes Garrett uncomfortable; A fairy man leers at Elowyn and winks at her (later asking someone if he can keep her for himself).

Elowyn has made enchanted necklaces in the past to make a girl stand out more; A woman wears a dress that fits her “every perfect curve” & has a slit to shoe off her “perfect legs”.

Mentions of loving someone; Mentions of flirting & jealousy; Mentions of a couple unable to have children so they went to everyone that had magic to get help; A couple mentions of true love’s kiss; A mention of a newly married couple’s sleeping arrangements (no details).

This book caught me completely anawares. It starts okay - a bit different, but with no big surprises to the Frog Prince tale...
There is kind of a love triangle (which is even hinted at in the blurb), and I didn't really know whether to hoot for the prince or the soldier to end up with the heroine. So far, so good...
Until the story gets twisted, and the fairies enter the plot (or rather, they enter the fairies' "plot") and everything gets packed with lots of suspense as the love triangle thickens, their fate hangs in the balance... I was just kept at the edge of my seat, reading on, trying to figure out what would happen next...
The book does end with a HEA, but it still leaves you anxious for more... especially with the hint of another book (even though it will surely be another series), another fairytale, and another HEA - for the guy who didn't get the heroine (no spoilers for whom he might be....😉). I am certainly looking forward for it.
What else I can tell is that this story is also a journey of finding one's self-worth.🤔
I received an ARC of this book, but I have done this review willingly and voluntarily

Thank you so much to the author for an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review

“As much as I don't want it, I want it. I want to be held. I want someone to love
me. And would it be so bad if it were an honorable soldier instead of a prince?”

With magic and conspiracy against the throne this book is an amazing read from start to finish.

You follow the story of Elowyn, a witch fighting for her right to live free, who has been alone since her mother was imprisoned. Despite her struggles with getting into a magic university and legally having magic she is profoundly smart and resourceful, making her living through enchantments and potions.

Everything is going according to plan for her until a frog appears at her doorstep claiming to be Kai, her childhood best friend and biggest betrayal. Now she has to travel with Kai, and the irritatingly attractive kings guard Garrett to try to save not only Kai, but her mother too.

While I usually don’t enjoy reading digital copies, I read this book in one sitting, unable to put it down. Lichelle Slater’s writing is both deep and attention getting, giving us a book that addresses deep topics without being over done. The perfect balance between angst, humor and romance.

I absolutely adored all the characters, with both acorn and Garrett holding special places in my heart, this book is wonderful and kept me on the edge of my seat!

I wholeheartedly recommend this book and hope that the world can amazing you with all its surprises

I received this book as an ARC for the All That Glitters series, (big thanks for that) and all thoughts are my own.

So, this was my first experience with a Lichelle Slater book. I'm not a big fan of first person POV, so it took me a while to get into this book. It did have its funny moments, but personally I wasn't actually interested until the last two chapters. I just found Garrett rather annoying for some reason, and the love triangle too. There were also two scenes that made me rather uncomfortable, the first being Elowyn getting attacked by an evil fae, and the second, Garrett helping her get dressed when she was wounded. It just felt a little too intimate for me. In my opinion, Acorn was the best character. I did however like the set up for the next book and plan to read it, even though I didn't like this one, since it's a Twelve Dancing Princesses retelling.

I love a good fairytale retelling and had so much fun reading this one by Lichelle Slater! It has a fun twist and a bit of a love triangle. I know there are a lot of readers who aren't fans of love triangles, it's definitely not my favorite trope. But I thought it was well done. It wasn't an overpowering feeling of a love triangle, if that helps you in deciding if you're going to read it or not. It was really sweet.

Elowyn is a witch and Prince Kaison is, well, the prince. And according to the king isn't a fan of their friendship, especially as they have grown older and their feelings have started to change towards each other. The book opens on the morning of Kai's wedding. Yikes! There's a lot that has happened the past few years between these two that we as the readers get to learn about as the book opens. My heart was tender for Elowyn and her struggles and I wasn't quite sure what I thought of Kai but I figured there would be more to his story that I wasn't seeing yet. Then a major twist happens (which I'm sure you can guess with what the fairytale is) and we get to embark on an adventure with Elowyn, Kai and Garrett, the captain of the King's guards. Oh, it was such a great adventure!

Sweet and spunky Elowyn was a great character. I loved watching her character arc and trying to anticipate how she would react and what she would choose for her future. Get ready for magic, adventure, fairies, prison, potions, talking creatures (yes, more than just a frog), healing, friendship and a sweet love story!

Content: Clean. Some mild suspense and mild use of magic.

I received a copy from the author. All thoughts and opinions in the review are my own.

Happy Reading!!!

Pretty good. I liked all the characters. For nearly all the book, I had no idea who El was going to choose out of her love triangle. I really liked both of the guys, and they kept fighting over her, which was so sweet! The only problem I had, other than a couple of scenes that were a little eh,
By the way, I now need a pet named Acorn that likes to tease people mercilessly.

The princess & the frog has always been my favorite story. But because of it I’m always very guarded about reading these retellings. But I will read Lichelle’s retelling over & over!! This is the best Prince Frog retelling! I love the magic, I love the adventure & the hedgehog sidekick is soo much fun! This is definitely not your average retelling & but it is prefect!! Trigger warning: there is physical assault on the page.

Amphibian's Kiss by Lichelle Slater is the first ARC I received from an upcoming multi-author series of fairy tale retellings called All That Glitters. This entry in the sparkling series is a unique retelling of "The Frog Prince" with an organized magic system, a fairy realm, and lots of romantic tension. It does an excellent job of paying homage to the fairy tale while keeping the story fresh with surprises and drama. The main character is a witch living in a world where magic is banned, a plot thread that is near and dear to my heart. The book contains some fun animal sidekicks and a main character who is a vegetarian due to her innate ability to communicate with animals.

Elowyn cannot forgive Prince Kaison for her mother's imprisonment, and who can blame her? It isn't easy being a witch in a kingdom where magic is illegal. Though Kai was once her best friend, El now has only her talking hedgehog for companionship. That is, however, until Kai finds himself married to a wicked fairy who turns him into a frog. Now, El is the only person he trusts enough to free him from the spell. When his wicked bride blames El for the curse, the king sends her on a quest to recover his humanity alongside a royal guard named Garrett. Can El cast away her bitterness toward Kai aside to free both him and her mother and defeat and evil fairy?

What I liked the most about this story is how well it balanced the layers of storytelling and depth. The elements of the original fairy tale are there with the selfish princess, the golden ball, and the talking frog, and the original elements blend in perfectly with the story. El's family magic being a threat to the king creates the perfect source of tension between her and Kai, when they would otherwise be a perfect couple. The additional love triangle with Garrett createsadditional romantic tension, though it seems unnecessary overall. The worldbuilding in this book is top notch. I particularly enjoyed the descriptions of the fairy realm, which felt like a real place full of magic and wonder.

I also enjoyed that this book had plenty of levity, especially compared to the darker Tethered Hearts series, which I'm also on the street team for. The talking animals provide lots of funny wisecracks, and El knows just how come up with witty retorts thanks to a lifetime of communicating with them. Despite being a witch, El's powers are quite tame and rely mostly on healing and runes. The fairies are the more powerful magic threat in this world. Their unique powers are thoroughly described with lots of history and nuance. The fairy princess bride made a great villain and was just threatening enough without being overly intimidating.

Amphibian's Kiss by Lichelle Slater is a delightful and enchanting retelling of "The Frog Prince" that will captivate fans of fairy tale romance and fantasy. With its well-balanced layers, engaging world-building, and witty dialogue, this book is a sparkling addition to the All That Glitters series. Elowyn's journey from bitter witch to selfless heroine is a joy to follow, and her chemistry with Prince Kai and Garrett adds plenty of romantic tension. If you're looking for a lighthearted and fun read with a touch of magic and adventure, Amphibian's Kiss is a perfect choice.

This book was absolutely delightful! The story was incredibly well thought-through, the characters were realistic and the tone was really good. I absolutely loved Elowyn as she's very spunky and has a good heart. I think that Kai was perfect for her and he was really sweet. The only drawback to this story is that I feel sorry for Garrett, but I suppose it works out as I now want to read his story in Lichelle's upcoming book. This book was an absolute page-turner that I simply could not put down. There was some humour that had me laughing and the world that Lichelle created was really wonderful. Excellent novel, I can't wait for the new series!

I received this book as an ARC from the author.

5 stars - gripping - I enjoyed this book. It had me hooked from start to finish. The characters were intriguing and endearing (or hateable where the antagonists are concerned). The world was interesting and the plot was fast without feeling rushed.

The only thing I disliked was the love triangle, but that's probably my least favorite trope in general. I'm curious about future books in this world since the end, while resolved for this story left it open for more to come.

I received a free advance copy and this is my honest review.

Not a fan of witches, but they seem to be in a lot of retellings lately for whatever reason. El is a witch's daughter. Kai is the prince, and Garrett is the king's guard. There's a love triangle...blech. The story is cute. I loved that El could talk to the animals. Super cute! Very interesting take on the Frog Prince.

Elowyn is on a mission—to convince the king to free her mother and magic users everywhere. But she is quickly sidetracked by her childhood friend, Prince Kaison, immediately following his wedding. After making a deal with the king that will grant the freedom she desires if she returns the prince in one piece, will she be able to let him and her feelings for him go for the sake of her family? And is there something more sinister behind his enchantment than meets the eye?

🔮 Tropes: road trip, friends to lovers, enemies to lovers, love triangle, magical bargains, hidden royalty, undiscovered powers, fierce female, animal sidekick, cozy fantasy, witty banter

“I can’t decide if I hear Garrett say ‘You had a chance’ or ‘You lost your chance,’ or maybe it’s none of those and he just said, ‘Look at her pants.’”

characters in one sentence each—
👤 Elowyn: passionate and loyal witch who will do whatever it takes to save her family and friends—except take a life #alllivesmatter
👤 Kaison: snarky, show-off prince who is El’s best friend but won’t stand up to his anti-magic father
👤 Garrett: royal guard who’s tough on the outside but actually a cinnamon roll on the inside (we love him!!)
👤 Acorn: El’s sassy sidekick hedgehog who ends up saving the day more than once

“We fit together like a puzzle, and a piece of my heart has been returned to its rightful place.”

❣️ super unique retelling
❣️ lots of adventure! I love a good road trip trope
❣️ the author’s notes at the end 🫶🏼

dislikes
🕳️ Kai & El’s relationship—didn’t feel like it was developed the way it needed to be
🕳️ felt like a draft instead of a final book
🕳️ underdeveloped themes 😢
🕳️ did I miss when El was given her pouch back in the prison??

This book kept me reading to discover 1) if El would end up with Garrett and 2) what in the manic magical realms would happen next! For the most part, it was a fun little read, but I had to give it 3 stars for a few reasons.

BUT FIRST—I do have to say that the world building was absolutely lovely 🥰 Every side character added so much, the cozy descriptions of El’s home & the forest made me want to teleport there immediately, and the fairy realm was described so well through showing instead of telling! Also Acorn was a hoot and Garrett was such a well-built character 🥹 (…which unfortunately contributes to one of my disappointments with this book—Garrett was developed so well, but I felt like we were missing that level of development with Kai, the other MMC…)

As for my gripes, the whole book felt like a draft instead of a finished novel. The themes weren’t incorporated fully, the dialogue was often confusing, the characters weren’t totally consistent, and the plot was a bit all over the place. For example, I was a huge fan of Garrett all through, but it was hard to tell whether the author intended it to be that way or not 🤔

There are also themes of trusting yourself that aren’t fully developed that could have added a lot to the story! Also, an unexplained magic system saves the day and I just feel like that is a cop out 🤷🏼‍♀️ It would’ve meant more if the “trusting yourself” theme was more prevalent.

Characters were also inconsistent. For example, El couldn’t attend university because she was illiterate, but then turns out she can read and—wait a minute—she can actually dissect the roots of words?

The spice in this book also got to me—not because it was crazy spicy, but I think just because it was not believable for me; it felt a bit forced and unnecessary at times, which I think says more about the character development than the spice levels.

Overall, I think there are plenty of people that will enjoy this book as is, but I think a bit more time and developmental editing would make this book appeal to an even wider audience and make the story even more compelling!! 💚 I can’t wait for the next book (for reasons you can probably guess), and I hope that the author will take a bit more time to go over the story development to make it just that much better! 🫶🏼 (hmu if you need an editor! @Lichelle)

“As much as I don’t want it, I want it. I want to be held. I want someone to love me. And would it be so bad if it were an honorable soldier instead of a prince?”

Ultimately, this was a super unique take on the frog prince that would be perfect for fans of Shari L. Tapscott, Sarah J. Maas, or Cassandra Clare! ✨

Reader’s Notes:

– this is part of a series, but meant to be read as a stand-alone

– this is told from Elowyn’s point of view

-it is mentioned that a character’s parent left and blamed the character as the reason they were leaving (past event)

-the fae in this book are not all nice/whimsical (though some are); some of the not nice ones encountered: take eyeballs and made jewelry out of it (eyes taken outside of the events in this story & jewelry seen briefly) & literally bite characters (as if they are food – doesn’t get a chance to ‘eat’ them as they are stopped, but a character is bit multiple times prior to that)

-there are two possible love interests, but she only picks one *SPOILER AHEAD (go straight to review if you don’t want to read more about this – no names are given but it is revealed how to know who she picks)*

.

.

Review:

I honestly am still not sure who I wanted Elowyn to pick out of the two possible love interests. 😅 Both had different reasons that I wanted her to lean one way or the other, so I didn’t have a solid ‘I want it to be this one’ moment. I am glad that the other one gets a chance at a love of their own with someone else at a later time though!

I enjoyed seeing this story play out for the main plot of trying to find a way to dispell the curse on the prince too. It was interesting to learn how this world worked and that there were fairies (<- I’m not sure if this was the spelling used in this book or not) tucked away. I also loved the banter that mainly her hedgehog brought to the table (though it pulled the others in on it)!

I can’t wait to find out what kind of person the other love interest will get and how his story will play out!

Summary:

Elowyn pushed everyone away when her best friend had her mother arrested. And now she only has her pet hedgehog for company as she sells potions and other small things out of her wagon. Until one day her ex best friend, Prince Kaison, comes by her wagon. In the form of a frog.

With the king’s distrust of unschooled magic users, Elowyn finds herself being charged with the prince’s curse and disappearance. Her only way out is to undo the spell on Kai and figure out what reason someone would have to do this to him.

Sent on her way with Captain Garrett as the king’s eyes and ears, Elowyn has her work cut out for her. But the deeper she goes, the more questions and secrets are uncovered that someone tried to bury…

( I received an ARC copy from the author but all opinions and thoughts are my own!)

Wow! The Frog Prince has been a fairytale that is well loved especially after Disney's version of it. However, I often do not see many retellings that still hold true to key aspects of the original tale but manage to create a beautiful twist to it.
Lichelle Slater did a wonderful job of keeping elements of the tale that many now ignore or leave out while also creating her own beautiful story!
There is a little of a love triangle and for the first half of the book and I was WORRIED. I had already decided who I wanted Elowyn to end up with within two chapters of the book (I know very stupid but I am stubborn) and Lichelle did such a good job of making both male characters look like such a good fit that I was about ready to throw my Ipad at the wall because I was getting nervous Elowyn would chose the guy I didn't want her to end up with!
But back to the story, I had never seen the Frog Prince combined with a fairy element or where the witch was not the one that cast the enchantment until now! I am in love with this concept and how Lichelle put it together. However, because I did receive an ARC copy, which isn't the final edition of the book, there were a few moments where I felt the writing was choppy or I was confused by a few scenes just based off of how they were written but I am confident those are all worked out by now because Lichelle is a fabulous author!
I loved this tale so much and I really wish Lichelle and had made the book longer. I know there is so much more detail and scenes that could have been added to this tale but I think that about a lot of books! If you are looking for a clean, swoon worthy, friends to lovers, love triangle Frog Prince tale with fairies, then this is the tale for you!

Before I begin, I would like to thank Lichelle Slater for allowing me to read a copy of her upcoming book. Amphibian’s Kiss, which is part of the multi-author All That Glitters series and will be available on Amazon on May 17th, 2025.

Last year, Elowyn’s best friend, Prince Kaison, arrested her mother and left her with a broken heart. All she can do to survive is sell potions and spend time with her hedgehog familiar. Then a frog claims to be the prince, and the king demands that she breaks the curse on his son in exchange for her mother’s freedom. Throw in the handsome and unwanted Captain Garrett as her guard/babysitter, political and dark secrets, and increasing tension between the human and faery realms, Elowyn has way too much on her plate. Plus, Kai is now technically married, and she now has to decide whether she can save the day without losing the kingdom or breaking her heart.

This book was great. You have Elowyn, a witty, kind, loyal, talented, and beautiful young witch that likes taking care of people, having accessible education, and spending time with her animal friends. You have Kaison, a strong, sweet, funny, and handsome young man that tries his best at taking care of loved ones and following orders from his father, the king. I loved Elowyn’s relationship with her animal friends, and how she wasn’t afraid to speak up for herself and those she loved. The interactions between Elowyn, Garrett, and Kaison, were funny, thoughtful, and sweet. The worldbuilding was lovely and the twists were interesting, and I enjoyed watching the Elowyn and her companions’ adventure unfold. Overall, if you like great worldbuilding, complex characters, sassy hedgehogs, and sweet romance with low amounts of spice, then I would highly recommend this book.

Elowyn is still dealing with feelings of anger, betrayal, and loneliness. Her only friend had her mother brought before the king for practicing magic and sentenced to prison. She won't let him explain and give excuses for Prince Kaison should have been able to stand up to her father if he really cared. Logically, she knows he couldn't have and that only the king can change the laws. And him following through on a political marriage feels like he is really leaving her behind. While determined to push forward with her attempts to change the king's mind she finds a problem halting her plans. Prince Kaison has come to her for help, his bride has turned him into a frog. After being summoned by the king she is tasked with turning him back or face dire consequences. Now she is followed by a grumpy knight, a gloomy Kai, and a snarky hedgehog as she looks for answers.

A quick, cozy retelling with a damsel who finds the way to save herself. A few predictable plot pieces but that's not a bad thing. I've always enjoyed the frog prince retellings, there is something about them that I keep coming back to. I enjoyed how Elowyn isn't a wilting flower, that she is timid at times more from self doubt than anything. But once she is determined there is no stopping her. Captain Bath was enjoyable and it was nice watching him go from guarded skeptic to someone who cares. Kai was a fun grumpy, moping frog and I enjoyed how he ranked Bath. My favorite was Acorn. Everyone needs an Acorn. A great addition to any fairytale retelling collection.

This was an unusual frog prince retelling. I thought the changes Lichelle made to this timeless classic made it fresh and uniquely hers in the best ways. The plot moves quickly from start to finish. The resolution came a little quickly, but it was satisfying. It's enjoyable, and, at least for me, made for a quick read.

The characters all have great chemistry. I'm not overly fond of love triangles, but in this case, Elowyn could have ended up with either of them and I'd have been happy. Kai is torn between duty, love, and empathy. Until he is king, he's limited in how much he can do to protect those he loves. Marriage seems like an answer, but with this book being a fairy tale, it's not quite the right answer. Garrett is willing to make a move and doesn't overlook common sense while still being willing to engage in light-hearted banter. Elowyn has been struggling to get by due to self-imposed isolation in the past year, but her resourcefulness and strong will make her enjoyable to read about. I think she has dyslexia based on her reading struggles. The author did a great job normalizing it. She gave Elowyn a solutionthat adapted to her learning needs rather than forcing Elowyn into a mold or curing her. Combined with talking animal sidekicks (I absolutely love the hedgehog familiar), this book has no lack of incredible characters.

I liked the book and would rate it a 4.5. Highly recommend.

I received an ARC of this book and am leaving a review voluntarily.

The Frog Prince is a hard fairy tale to keep my interest and I truly don’t know why. Maybe because of the simplicity of it? The bare bones basics? I really can’t say but it’s always been one of my least favorite fairy tales.

THIS version however is fun! It does start out a bit bare bones but the author very quickly begins to weave political intrigue, mystery, and magic into the words that leave you wanting more. I originally thought it might be TOO much (I know, I’m never satisfied) but then I saw there’s another book in the series and all the set up made sense. Will definitely check that out.

Kai the Prince is a lot of fun because he knows what he has to do as a ruler and he knows that confines a lot of his choices. He doesn’t outright reject them but rather seeks to find ways around them. It’s a nice change of pace to have a Prince reflect the political savvy he would have been raised with. He also is completely smitten with our MC and seeing her come to the realization is awesome.

Oh and Acorn, our MC’s companion hedgehog, absolutely steals every scene he’s in. He’s funny, blunt but would absolutely move the moon for his friend. I think giving the MC the ability to understand animals was a great touch and it injects a lot of interaction in scenes where there normally would be none.

I deeply enjoyed this and will be following up on the next book for sure

I loved "Amphibian's Kiss" by Lichelle Slater. The story captivated me from the first page. Filled with intrigue, romance, magic, and adventure, it kept me on the edge of my seat until the very end.

What I liked most:

- The characters: Elowyn is a strong and independent protagonist who isn't intimidated by anyone. I love her courage and determination to fight for what she believes in. Kai is a complex character, torn between his duty and his feelings for Elowyn. The tension between them is palpable, and their chemistry is undeniable.

- The story: The story is full of unexpected twists and turns that keep you on the edge of your seat. The plot is complex and well-structured, and the author masterfully manages tension and suspense.

- The magical world: Slater creates a fascinating magical world, full of magical creatures and dangerous enchantments. I loved the details she describes about the fairy kingdom and its traditions.

- The romance: Although the story is full of action and adventure, the romance between Elowyn and Kai is so intense and tender that it can't help but captivate you. I loved how the author develops their relationship, showing the evolution of their love and the complexity of their feelings.

Without further ado, I thank the author for sending me an ARC for review in exchange for a review.

Amphibian’s Kiss took the Frog Prince’s story and twisted it into a creative story. The story follows Elowyn, a young witch that is childhood friends with the crown prince, Kaison. The day Kaison is supposed to get married, Elowyn watches as her friend smiles happily alongside of his new bride. Even without his betrayal of turning in her mother, she gives up hope that there could be a future for them, burying her feelings.

Later that evening, Kaison shows up as a frog, which in turn makes her the most likely suspect of performing transformational magic. Being turned into the villain, she is accused by the crown to turn him back into a human or else. With the royal guard, Garrett, having to keep watch on her, she goes on an adventure to find a way to cure Kai.

I’ve read The Forgotten Kingdom books by Lichelle Slater and have really, truly enjoyed them all. With this book, it was impressively original and the character development was fantastic. It offered a lot of excitement and humor, especially with Acorn, her hedgehog companion. He seems like my ideal animal, especially with his love of food, telling people how it is, and being willing to help others who need it.

I had hopes that one of the male leads would end up with Elowyn but it wasn’t the one I wanted. I hope that you get the opportunity to read this story and share your thoughts!

I received an ARC from the author but was not required to post a review. This is my honest,
voluntary impression after reading it.

This is a retelling of The Frog Prince with plenty of twists and fresh ideas that make it original in and of itself!

I enjoyed the story as Elowyn is accused of turning her best friend into a frog on his wedding day. Of course she didn’t but then she’s charged with finding him and changing him back! What follows is a exciting adventure full of action and personal interaction between her and her unlikely companions and the characters they run across in getting to their destination. Then more suspense and trials await them in trying to free themselves and return home.

Fairy tales have always had a special place in my heart and this one is no different. I really enjoyed it and wholeheartedly recommend it to everyone who loves fairy tales or who thought they have out grown them! This book proves the magic of fairy tales still exists to transport us to a realm where we can be immersed in a compelling story and forget our troubles for a little while!

I encourage you to pick up this book and discover or rediscover the wonderful genre of fairy tales once again if you’ve been away from them for a while.

I’ve read the other books in this series and I can recommend them all as well as ones you won’t regret reading!

Elowyn has been holding a grudge against her best friend Prince Kai for over a year, ever since he threw her mother in prison for using magic. Now, he’s been turned into a frog and begging her for help. Unfortunately, her own magical talents mean the king blames her for the prince’s new form. With a handsome royal guard in tow.

With a hedgehog who can talk, a sweet donkey, and a wagon full of her magical items, Elowyn and Kai set off to break his curse. But will a road trip to find a fairy ring break heal her wounded heart?

“Meow.”

This is a really fun story with friends-to-lovers, a hedgehog sidekick, and interesting world building.

Likes:
😍 Acorn the Hedgehog!
😍 Representation: Dyslexia
😍 Garrett the Guard

Dislikes:
🙁 First person present (I really struggle reading books written like this.)
🙁 Love triangle and infidelity (Yes, it added to the intrigue and tension, but as one of the parties was married, it left me feeling a little icky.)
🙁 Assault scene (By a bad guy and not played down at all; just hard to read.)

If you like quirky retellings, fae-type political maneuvers, and forbidden magic, this might be your next favorite read!

Thank you to Lichelle Slater for the ARC in exchange for my honest review!

Amphibian's Kiss by Lichelle Slater is a delightful and enchanting read perfect for fairytale lovers. I’m so glad I had the chance to dive into this magical world.

I immediately became invested in the characters, especially Elowyn. Watching her grow into herself throughout the story was so rewarding. The dynamic between Elowyn, Kai (the frog prince), and Captain Garrett was full of tension and fun, with a love triangle that added just the right amount of drama. The forbidden love angle and forced proximity really ramped up the stakes, and I found myself rooting for Elowyn and Kai every step of the way.

I also have to mention how much I adored the talking animals (especially her adorable pet hedgehog) and the magical elements that truly made this story feel like a modern fairytale. While there’s no spice, the emotional depth and rom-com charm were more than enough to keep me engaged.

The mix of political intrigue, magic, and romance made for a fantastic read, and the HEA (happily ever after) was just what I needed. If you enjoy quirky, magical adventures with a bit of forbidden love, Amphibian's Kiss is a must-read.

I can’t wait to see what else Lichelle Slater has in store!

Language 🤐: Clean

Spice ❤️‍🔥: Kisses only, some innuendos

⚠️ There was a semi descriptive telling of an assault left me unsettled as it was a creature trying to eat our main girl ⚠️

Tropes/Micro Tropes
- Frog Prince Retelling
- Single POV
- Love Triangle
- Witch and Prince
- Rivals to lovers
- Childhood friendships
- Lots of great banter
- Adorable and witty animal side kick
- Unplanned journey
- High stakes

This book was definitely not what I expected but I absolutely loved this unique retelling of the Frog Prince. It was interesting meeting Prince Kaison and Elowyn and feeling the high tension at their first meeting. There is lots of history there that we are able to gain peeks of through out the story. You find out that Kia was part of the force behind El's mother's arrest. When Kia shows up to Elowyn's door as frog after the night of his wedding things truly take a turn.

Enter then Captain Garrett who is there to make sure El will fulfill her duty to find the cure for Kia. Off on an adventure this unlikely crew sets off. Along with one of my favorite Acorn (the adorable hamster side kick I didn't know I needed in my life) who reminds me a lot of Rino from the movie Bolt. Lots of great development happens and just its great!

Also sweet Tim was such an enjoyable side character. I don't want to say more because I want to be as spoiler free as possible. I really enjoyed all the side characters that helped to bring this world to life.

I fully enjoyed this book which was my first by Lichelle Slater and I definitely plan on reading the next story!

It was a personal rating of 4.5 out of 5 stars for me, rounded up happily for Goodreads. I felt like one side of the love triangle was developed much more then the other, felt there was. few confusing things a bit with El and her abilities. I did find the one assault more disturbing then others I read but other then that fully enjoyed this book.

I appreciate so much the opportunity I had to read this ARC given to me from the Author. All opinions given here are my own! 😊

This was so cute! I loved the twist on the Frog Prince and this lovely world.
I really enjoyed Elowyn’s POV! She was facing a lot of challenges with rules of the kingdom and imprisonment of her mother. I admired her determination and cleverness. Even though she felt alone, she was determined to survive. As the story progressed, Elowyn began to learn more about the circumstances around Kai’s actions and to see herself rightly. She grew into her strength and learned to trust. Acorn was also hilarious! I loved his spunk and loyalty.
I honestly really liked both Kai and Garrett! They both had their flaws, but both were genuinely honorable men. I loved getting to know both of them and seeing the different ways they tried to support Elowyn. Even though there was a light love triangle I was really pleased with how the story played out as well as the hints of future stories!
The story was really interesting and I loved the fantasy world that we get to see. I also loved the way that the fairytale was incorporated and expanded upon! The different elements were really cool and I liked the twists. I was invested from the first few chapters and would love to read more in this world! It is a fairytale inspired fantasy with magic, humor, and only kissing.
I received an ARC.

I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review. This is the first book of the author's that I've read and I will be reading more from her. While this book is part of the multi author All That Glitters Series, it can be read as a standalone. Amphibian's Kiss is told through Elowyn's pov and is a fun and clean Frog Prince retelling.

Spice: about three suggestive comments (nothing that crossed the line) and kisses that don't get too heated

If you're not a fan of love triangles so you're hesitant about picking up this one, I encourage you to give it a try. I liked the way the author approached the love triangle (so there are no sick feelings about it feeling like cheating) and how easy she made it to like both Kai and Garrett and understand why Elowyn felt drawn to both for different reasons. Though the romance was entertaining, I was just as invested in the quest that Elowyn was on and seeing how she went from someone who guarded herself against others to someone who trusted and worked along side others. With Acorn, her animal familiar, there was never a dull moment of Elowyn's journey and I'm sure readers will be eagerly turning the pages of the book to find out what happens.

This book was fun and fast-paced. The FMC was sweet, and watching her grow throughout the story was fantastic! I'm not a big fan of love triangles, but I liked it in this story. Both possible love interests seemed to be evenly matched in terms of their pros and cons as a partner, and there were a couple moments where I wondered "maybe the FMC will choose X instead." I like it when there's a bit of a mystery and it's not super obvious the whole time who'll end up with the girl.

And Acorn may be one of my favorite snarky animal sidekicks ever! He was hilarious! The way he teased everyone was great and made me chuckle several times.

The only thing that kept this from being 5 stars was the pacing. It was fast, and I don't mind that, but there were a few places where it seemed just a little too fast, and I felt confused about what was going on. That made it a little difficult to fully enjoy the story. But, if you love fast paced stories with lots of action and problems to be dealt with, you will likely love this story! Overall, it was fun and I really liked it.

I did receive an ARC from the author in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Wow!!

I enjoy a good retelling; in fact some authors do such a good job that the original tale pales in comparison.

Lichelle Slater did a wonderful job bringing the Frog Prince to life. The story had strong characters, magic, and a love triangle. Plus a lot of magic. I had a really hard time putting it down.

I especially liked the love triangle twist and it was hard to guess who Elowyn was going to end up with. I'm actually kind of bummed that she didn't end up with the Captain Garrett, I thought it was a bit better match for Elowyn. However, the loose ends hint at another story so I am very excited about that.

Who this book may be for: People who want a good retelling, people who enjoy strong heroines, and those who are into love triangles that will leave you guessing until the last minute.

Who may not like this book: People who don't enjoy fairy tales and people who want spicier romance scenes.

I really enjoyed this book. I did receive an ARC copy and was not required to leave a review or received any compensation for my review.

The best part of this book is the talking hedgehog sidekick. He’s hilarious!

Something else I liked, though it also drove me a little nuts, was that for a good portion of the book, I didn’t know who the heroine was going to end up with. That uncertainty was actually refreshing! Usually, I can tell within the first chapter or two who the heroine will choose. I'm very glad the author mentioned in a postscript that she has plans for the "other guy," because I was definitely rooting for him.

There are several valuable lessons woven throughout the story: the importance of staying connected with friends and family, working together, being brave, and using your unique abilities—even if they don’t look like someone else’s.

This book was clean enough to share with my 14-year-old, although a few creepy elements might keep younger readers up at night—a fae who collects eyeballs and another who wants to eat our heroine.

I received this book as an advance reader copy from the author, and these are my honest opinions.
