I’m destined to rule the damned…not fall for one. Think your life is hell? Try being the Prince of Darkness’s only daughter—a seventeen-year-old born and raised in Hell, destined to inherit the throne, and constantly enduring the (literal) eternal moans and screams of souls who had it coming. The only thing worse than ruling the Underworld is working here. Day after day, it’s me, a bunch of demons who are too intimidated by my dad to befriend me, and an endless lineup of sinners. Until Nathan Reynolds shows up, with a smile that could turn brimstone to butterflies, claiming he’s innocent. I don’t question the system; it's never wrong. But Nate’s pleading eyes have me doubting everything I’ve ever known. So, I’m going to do the one thing I’m not supposed to do: I’m going to help him break out. Even if it means showing Nate exactly who I am. Metaphorical horns and all. Because if we don’t make it out of here? We’re not just damned. We’re doomed.
Samantha Joyce became an author because she much preferred writing about other people instead of herself. Then she was told she needed to write an author bio for her books and website, and her plan was thwarted. She’s the author of two adult romance books: Flirting with Fame and Dealing in Deception. She lives in Toronto, Ontario Canada, and when she is not writing, she’s baking pretty cakes or beading jewelry or sitting in the audience at many Broadway musicals. Samantha’s a hopeless romantic who loves writing about love. Her favorite thing in the world is making people laugh, so if you chuckle at least once while reading her books, this bio writing thing was worth it.
I enjoyed this action packed and funny novel! It had the perfect mix of comedy and plot! Little spice, but that is to be expected in a YA book & it doesn’t need it.
I laughed at how the FMC- Devica, talks about things she doesn’t know about on Earth. Since she has lived in Hell her whole life. “He must be good at this tea thing if he’s been promoted to Earl.” (Talking about Earl Grey tea.) 😆
I also enjoyed the message I interpreted from this book! Some of my favorite quotes that can further explain: “Those imperfections make me who I am, and I’m proud of all of me.” “It would be impossible to have light if we didn’t also have the dark.”
My favorite quote: “That’s not even a sin.” I wrinkle my nose. “Are you sure? Weren’t cats the furry demons Father sent to Earth to punish the living?” I don’t fully agree since I am the biggest cat lover, but I get it! They can be the biggest A-holes.🤣
I can’t wait to see more from this author! I thoroughly enjoyed this authors writing style, humor, and message in this book.
Thank you Teen Entangled Publishing / Entangled Insiders Facebook Group for this ARC! I am voluntarily leaving a review. ❤️🔥
If it’s about demons and Hell, then my interests are definitely piqued. Not Today Satan, a YA story, is with Satan’s 17-year-old daughter, Devica, as the main character. And, as most teens do, she's going through some changes. She’s just involved with taking the reins of her father’s place one day and being prepped for that. But growing up, without a mom, and not having friends because she’s Satan’s daughter, left her with awkwardness and questions—none of which her father ever addressed.
When Nathan shows up and claims he doesn’t belong down there, it triggers something inside of Devica. The two go on quite an adventure to find out who she is and to correct Nathan’s destiny.
I enjoyed Not Today Satan so much. It was a fun adventure and a different spin on a demon story. I loved how Devica’s character evolved. The backstory of her mom and dad was quite interesting, and I would love to know more. I was surprised by some things as it crept closer to the end. It does end in a cliffhanger, which excited me, as I’m curious to see more adventures involving Devica and Nathan.
Thank you to Entangled Publishing for the gifted copy. I am leaving this review voluntarily
I had the immense pleasure of reading this early. I can’t say much about it yet, but it was a great time! Fast paced and fun, I think this one will be a hit. My rating is actually 4.5 stars so I’m rounding up. :)
Devica is Satan's heir, poised to take her father's throne as soon as she turns 18. But her powers aren't working like they're supposed to, and she hasn't quite managed the detachment other denizens of Hell have. It gets even worse when a particular soul with kind eyes appears before her swearing that he's not guilty of the murder he's accused of. Nate is so insistent that he even manages to break out of his lot in Hell and plead his case once again with Devica. The possibly innocent soul is still in her mind when she finds out a secret her father has kept from her, so she decides they're both going to break out of Hell and find out the truth about everything.
It's a fun read with characters that are easy to connect with even as their situations are so out of the norm. Devica is the star of the story and it's great to see her slowly come into her own and take pride of what she can do. Nate is just too pure for words and he clashes a bit with the story being told, but he's the main motivation behind much of what Devica accomplishes. I would have enjoyed more exploration of their time getting out of Hell and less of the rushed happenings on Earth, but that might just be me wanting more personality clashes and getting to see their love develop.
It does have a couple of negative points such as an ending that feels rushed and not as thought out as the rest of the story plus an unexplained miracle that annoys me, but it's overall a fun and original coming of age story with rom-com elements.
Thank you to Entangled Publishing for the early read in exchange for my honest opinion!
I’ll be honest—I didn’t fully know what to expect from this book, but WOW I’m absolutely blown away. It’s witty, refreshing, and such a breath of fresh air from a lot of the same recycled tropes I’ve been seeing lately.
The story follows the daughter of Satan (yes, really 👀), who risks everything to help a falsely condemned boy escape Hell. What follows is a wild, emotional, and hilarious journey full of heart, romance, and self-discovery.
I loved the storyline and cant wait to see where the book goes from the cliffhanger.
Ok, this was so stinking good! It was action packed and extremely funny! Very easy to connect with the characters. Loved the idea she’s the daughter of satan and is being groomed to take over. But she’s just a typical teen coming into herself discovering her fathers secret.
I am so lonely devoured this YA Novel! It hits on so many good tropes and I love seeing a book with Dante’s Inferno themes! It is such a fun and wild ride!
I definitely recommend this book to anyone who likes the angel/demon trope, and star crossed lovers element. Once I picked it up, I could not put it down. I love the writing style.
₰ When I got rejected for the ARC of this book, I should’ve taken it in stride and minded my business.
But NO. I just had to go get the book after release day and not only was I ragebaited to the max, I fear I’m now falling into a slump because of this cringe, annoying slurp of a book😭
₰ The characters were insufferable, the plot was somehow doing too much and nothing at the same time, and reading it felt like I was experiencing every single Lot at the same time with no escape
₰ And you know the cherry ontop?? From the ending we see it’s not a standalone. There’s going to be more (ㅠ﹏ㅠ)!!!!
What an addictive and engaging read! Again, judging a book by the cover isn't always the safest, but this story kept my interest from beginning to end, so I'm pleased with my choice to grab this PNR. Honestly, it doesn't have lots of spice, as the relationship between the two main characters is more about their struggles to escape the Underworld unscathed. (The relationship develops naturally, because - Nate is just adorable! Love him!) What it does have is a lot of danger, action, mystery, and adventure. All things I really enjoy reading, and I recommend this read wholeheartedly.
Davica is an easy character to enjoy, and understand. Her upbringing was lacking in so many ways, but what she did have were the skills to save Nate, and honestly, herself. The trials they faced were interesting and kept me on the edge of my seat the whole read. I enjoyed how this resolved, and where it left each of the characters. If you don't read the epilogue, there's a HEA. Done. If you do read it, there's a cliffhanger, and I am really excited for what's to come.
Fortunate to have received my ARC from Netgalley and Entangled Publishing LLC (thank you) and I happily leave my review.
Thank you @entangled and @netgalley for providing me with an arc copy of this one! 🫶
As expected with a title like “Not Today Satan”, this book was such a FUN adventure! The story really lived up to its name and kept me laughing throughout its entirety with lines like “Weren’t cats the furry demons Father sent to Earth to punish the living?” Not to mention all of the hell jokes and other witty puns. But aside from laughs it had a solid storyline full of emotion, a cute romance, tons of action scenes, and lovable characters. Needless to say, this one really went to hell and back to earn that 5⭐️. See what I did there? 🤣
Devina (the devils daughter and heir) is everything I love in a MC - she’s smart but also a little bit of an undercover baddie. (I’m not sure if I’d call her a black cat but she definitely has some of the trope aspects.) While Nate is our loveable golden retriever MC who doubles as our comedian. Both characters bring so much to the story and were both written beautifully. I loved learning about both of their stories. I also thought the side characters were fun - even fishlips. 🤣🤣 Anyways, with all that said I can’t wait to see what Samantha Joyce comes up with next! ❤️
“It turns out, falling for you wasn’t drowning like I feared. It was flying.”
I was thrilled that I got this ARC from Entangled. I was so excited by the blurb and got lucky! this book is a different and unique telling of Dantes Inferno. Devica, Atteo, and Nathan these characters are fantastic as their loyalty strength, love, and friendship are constantly tested throughout the story. I find this book very witty, and it makes you think. Oh, what would I do it? I love this or that. the characters go through this interesting depiction of Hell. It's such a good book. I love it and recommend it even if you are a history or English buff. I have recommended it to my friend, who is an English professor, and she studied Dantes Inferno and Paradise Falls more than I have. I think this book is witty, unique, and has the best world building I've read in a while. I highly recommend it to find out why it's so uniqueI give this 10/10. preorder it today!

With hot pink flame edge details, Not Today, Satan stood out of my Christmas reading stack.
The book first came to my attention because one of my friends is a friend of the author. I've been cheering and supporting this book as publishers marketed it, as it got put up on NetGalley (and became a number one request!), and as it had a positive release week. I've also been hesitant to pick it up because honesty in my reviews is paramount and I didn't want to rain on the parade.
I did not have to worry. Not Today, Satan is a miraculous little book - thought provoking about the structures and people that maintain Hell, hilarious with just the right balance of comedy, and a sweet teenage romance (that is not spicy). There's a Mark Twain quote, "[b]ut who prays for Satan? Who, in eighteen centuries, has had the common humanity to pray for the one sinner that needed it most?" which perfectly describes the moral conundrums that Joyce explores thoughtfully, carefully, and complexly.
Devica is a joy, a full embodiment of a teenage girl. The back cover copy is written in her voice, which is perfect, both as a marketing tool and letting the reader know what there is more of in the book. She cares that her favourite dress gets ruined, but it doesn't make her vain or shallow, but serves as fleshing her out as an entire character. The moments where she interacts with things that are earth-centric are absolute comedic gold. Her confusion about people's obsession with these little light-emitting boxes had me laughing.
I can't wait to see what Joyce is up to next - it's rare to see an author that can perfectly balance so many elements.
A wild, witty ride through the underworld! Samantha Joyce delivers a brilliantly imaginative and hilarious journey in Not Today Satan. Devica, the 17-year-old daughter of Satan, is next in line to rule Hell, but her world turns upside down while working in the welcoming center when she meets Nate, a cheerful and charming soul who insists he’s been sent to Hell by mistake. Their adventure through the many layers of the underworld is packed with chaos, clever twists, and laugh-out-loud moments. Devica’s growth as she questions her destiny and discovers her inner goodness is beautifully balanced by Nate’s infectious optimism and humor. He’s the kind of character you root for instantly. Joyce’s writing sparkles with creativity and heart. The blend of humor, action, and emotional depth makes this a standout read. I couldn’t put it down, and honestly, this story NEEDS to be a Netflix series. The visuals would be absolutely epic!
At first I thought this was going to be about a demon who is half human and half demon, like wow its just horny Kpop Demon Hunters. Thankfully, this had its own unique plot, characters and world building. I did start to get a bit tired of Devica’s sarcasm at the end & the final fight scene did stretch out a bit long imo, but this was a good romance!
I absolutely adore this novel! Not Today, Satan, is a retelling of Dante's Inferno. Devica is the daughter of the Devil himself. She is expected to take over for her father when she turns 18 so he can retire. Nate is a human who has died and gone to hell who believes he is innocent. Devica has always wanted a mother, her mother died in the River of Fire when she was a baby and has no memories of her. Until she finds a photo album in her father's room with recent pictures of her mother, proving that she is indeed very much alive. Devica conspires with Nate whom she believes is innocent to help her escape Hell and get to Earth and meet her mother. Devica and Nate go on quite the adventure to get through Hell. There's tons of humor, romantic moments, and ironic moments. I greatly loved this novel! The only unfortunate part is that it ends on a major cliffhanger. I was hoping this was a standalone but am looking forward to the next installment. I highly recommend picking up this novel! 5 stars!
This YA fantasy is full of action and also funny moments.
I received an advance reader copy from the Entangled: Teen (via Netgalley). Opinions from this review are completely my own.
Devica is the Prince of Darkness’s only daughter and she is supposed to take over from him in one year, when she turns 18. She was born and raised in the Underworld and doesn't know much about earth. Before Nathan Reynolds arrives and claims he is inocent, she believed that everybody that ends up ion Hell is a sinner and deserves it.
I liked this story a lot had a lot of fun while reading it. But it is also a bit dark (as it mostly takes place in Hell). Dev is an interesting character, with a good development. She is smart and resourceful. Nate is a sweet and lovable character, with a good sense of humour.
The story is well written and more complex than I expected initially. There is action and suspense, but also emotional moments, surprising revelations and cute romance.
I am so glad that there will be a sequel because the ending left me wanting more.
This book was just fun. Yes, it is romance, but this is honestly a romance I can get behind 100%. I loved Devica. She is quirky, engaging, funny, and all around just a beautiful surprise as the main heroine. Nate for being damned to hell just gives off Flynn Ryder vibes of being cocky but in all the right ways, because underneath that cocky behavior is someone who really has a beautiful heart. Their interactions are just perfection. I truly loved this book and am excited because it seems like this might only be the start for these two amazing characters. Thank you to Entangled Publishing, LLC and Netgalley for allowing me to read an advance copy of this title.
Thank you to NetGalley, Entangled Publishing and Samantha Joyce for sharing this ARC with me, in exchange for my honest review.
Not Today Satan, what a phenomenal ride Ms. Samantha takes us on. Not Today Satan is hilarious, fun, adventurous, dramatic, and chaotic, which equates to=Oh so delicious. Also also, it has just the right amounts of banter, charm and sarcasm. Our MMC, Nate, is very swoon-worthy, he has, and I quote "A smile that can turn brimstone into butterflies." Our FMC, Devica, love the pun-name, is freakin adorable, her Earl Grey line is chefs kiss. Nate and Devica's chemistry is nothing short of perfection. Ms. Samantha's imagination and world building is topshelf. A few times I spit out my coffee with how funny the jokes are.
One of my favorite quotes: "Weren't cats the furry demons Father sent to Earth to punish the living?"
I thoroughly love this book. Ms. Samantha uses her spidery powers by pulling you in and at the end of every chapter leaves you begging for more. I just didn't want this book to end.
First of all, thank you to for the ARC read of Not Today, Satan! This was such a fun read and I truly enjoyed it every single time!
Okay, I have to be honest - I didn’t even KNOW this was going to be YA going into this but I must admit? I LOVED this. As someone who grew up Catholic but really enjoys different takes like this, Not Today, Satan was everything I needed and more.
Devica sort of reminds me of the kind of protagonist I would love to be - someone who grows into who she is meant to be but retains that sass and skill that makes her so likeable and fun. She and Nate had some hilarious banter, and if there’s a second book to this series - which the epilogue seems to tease - I would love to see more of them.
Overall, this is a fun read who wants something a little lighter that surrounds religion and the universe, but also keeps the tension and story relatively interesting to keep you going. So much fun!
As a YA book this is absolutely top of the range for the hysterical laughter I had. A perfect blend of character humour, story line and amusement love it
The book blurb peeked my interest in this book and then I saw that the author was reimagining Dante’s Inferno. I do love a good devil hell story. I didn’t even get ten pages in before I was hooked into the story. This is more than just breaking a damned, but possibly innocent soul out of hell. I wish I could say more, but I can’t without putting in spoilers. Just grab the book and enjoy the adventure Devica and Nate will take you on. So many twists and turns.
*received a complimentary copy of the book from the author via Voracious Readers Only *
I loved this YA book. It was a captivating and fun adventure with thought provoking undercurrents about the concept of good and evil but also about duty, fairness, balance and love. It is a coming of age story with shades of Dante’s Inferno. The story was well written with three dimensional characters and an engaging storyline amidst good world building. Devica is 17 and the daughter of Satan. She is supposed to take over Hell from her father in a year when she turns 18. Unfortunately, she is a social outcast and not very good at being a demon despite her mandatory training. Nathan is a 17 year old human who was sent to Hell for committing murder. He claims he is innocent and something about him calls to Devica. Another surprise meeting with Nate and the discovery of a secret, lead Devica to start a journey out of hell to help Nate escape back to Earth and find something that she needs there as well. The character arc for Devica was beautifully done. She started off as a stereotypical whiny teen (despite being raised in Hell) but as the book unfolds who she is, her feelings and her issues are fleshed out until she (and to some degree Nate) becomes a real and relatable person who is doing the best she can as a messy being. Definitely read this book. Laugh. Think deep thoughts. Feel all the things. Cheer on the teenage hero and young love. 4.5 stars.
My thanks goes to Net Galley for letting me get an ARC copy of this book
I liked this book for multiple reasons, also that you got the background of the description of hell and all the different places, I also like that you got to see Devica finding her mom and being able to get that closure and ability to grow that relationship that her father tried so hard to keep from her, she also grew into a better person despite being born in/from hell she got to see the humanity side of life and is able to see that not all humans are bad and worth being sent to hell but that some of them are worth being sent there. I also like the Nathan and Devica character building and where you got to see them come together as “enemies” per say and then grow in friends and then into a relationship it was nice along with my favorite was the banter and little Taylor Swift puns or inputs I don’t think that was intentional but I found them.
This book is such a fun time! Devica is the reluctant heir to Satan’s throne, an 18-year-old demon princess who wants absolutely nothing to do with ruling Hell. Her powers aren’t behaving, she feels completely unprepared for the role, and more than anything, she just wants a genuine connection with someone. She definitely wasn’t expecting that “someone” to be Nate, a human sent to Hell for murder…even though he swears he’s innocent.
Nate’s humor, persistence, and unexpected sincerity slowly convince Devica that he may actually be telling the truth. When she uncovers a shocking secret about her own life, she becomes determined to visit Earth herself. But breaking out of Hell? Not exactly a simple task.
Devica and Nate embark on a chaotic, high-stakes journey through the various circles of Hell, each filled with different souls suffering for their earthly mistakes. They’re dodging demon guards, unpredictable spirits, and dangers around every corner as they attempt an impossible escape.
It’s a roller-coaster ride filled with demons, lore, and plenty of action. Some parts felt a bit rushed, but overall the story stayed engaging, and the ending clearly tees up a sequel.
All in all, the book skewed a little young for me but still delivered an entertaining adventure. Though I do have one lingering question: how exactly is an eighteen-year-old supposed to rule Hell? 👀🔥
I got this book from Net Galley/Entangled Publishing in return for an honest review. This was a cute YA novel with a totally unique premise that I enjoyed!
Spoilers ahead!
This book was so unique that it kept me hooked. I actually thought it was good enough on its own to not need kitschy little bits like “what the here” and “what the home”, but it did make it more of a YA novel which I guess was the intention.
I felt like everything after learning that Nate would die again was pretty rushed, and the more coincidences that occurred the less believable they all collectively became. It was too much that her mother happened to find her, she happened to find Nate, AND that she happened to run into Alex when she did.
Not long after that we were rushing into battle with Ferus that somehow dragged and felt rushed at the same time. It all tied up at the end, but only because there is clearly going to be another book.
Overall, my favorite thing about it was how unique the story was. Every part of it was certainly unexpected.
