She didn’t expect to survive the night…

To satisfy the terms of a treaty between her pack and the Alpha who murdered her brother, twenty-four-year-old Selene Beaumont finds herself taking the place of her spoiled sister as a sacrificial bride. Powerless as a wolfless pack servant, what chance does she stand against a monster like Killian Darrow, the only living heir of the depraved Alpha King?

But something happens when he touches her, something that echoes in her soul. Changed from monster to a man, a mysterious transformation is revealed, throwing all that is known about the murderous Alpha into doubt.

He’s looking to break a monstrous curse…

Killian prefers to keep others at a safe distance, but after Selene unlocks the mystery of his affliction, he has no choice but to keep her close. Skin-to-skin close. Or risk the monster rearing its ugly head.

But soon it becomes clear that not everyone wants him to be free, or see a wolfless woman married to the most powerful Alpha in a generation. As allies turn to enemies and old secrets stir, they will learn that nothing and no one is what it seems.

This is a fun paranormal romance with high fantasy vibes--our world, but different. It's the start of a huge series that's set up well in book one, and I'm very excited to read book 2. Spicy romance. Forced proximity, underdog heroine, cursed hero, a little enemies to lovers.

I’m giving this 4 stars because the plot and the whole premise were good and I loved the lore. The only thing that made me think about dropping it to 3 stars was the repetition of things and the fact that the characters were SO slow to figure things out. Absolutely no reason it took that long for them to figure out Killian wasn’t Bane’s son.
The bit with Selene’s magic/family was good, I liked the way that was written. I hope Asher’s mate is one of Selene’s siblings since the epilogue was done in his perspective and it seems like the story is going that way.
Overall, I did enjoy it and it has such potential going forward!

Thank you to the author and to NetGalley for the ARC!

This book has a great world and magic system.
I found it so interesting and really easy to get into.
You’re sucked in after the first page!
I love the enemies to lovers of the mains and how caring the FMC was to her little brother
There are A LOT of twists and turns.

However, the reason it isn’t 5 stars, the relentless bullying is really hard for me to take.

I’m very grateful to have received an ARC of this book! I finished it in two days, I couldn’t put it down! It follows a lot of tropes and I quite enjoyed that. It felt a bit like a Cinderella story, and I’m always a sucker for that. This is a fun read, especially as a little palette cleanser! I’m not huge into werewolf romances, but this one is great!!

Okay, bare with me as I write this review as finding the words to describe just how much I loved this book seems to be more difficult than I thought it would be lol.
-
SPOILER FREE
-
So I stumbled upon this book when I went to join my local book club, only to learn that the author is also local to my area and actually a part of said book club. Now I mention this because I want to specifically state that, though it did make me want to read the book more, it is not the reason I picked up the book or showed initial interest in it. Im apologetically a huge fan of werewolf shifter stories so the blurb on the back of the book coupled with the cover are what drew me into Echoes of Night - the author being local and the story surprisingly being set in my area were just the icing on the already delectable cake.
Okay, with that out of the way, lets get into talking about the book itself!
-
I think its pretty obvious by now that I loved this book, but lets get into the why.
Firstly, lets talk about the characters. From the rip, these characters had me in a vise. From their flaws to their views, how beautifully they all almost complimented each other but were all different and unique, just about every character was perfect. And they all felt like they had depth to them, like they all had reasons for being the way that they were and none of them felt shallow or unbelievable.
The dialogue also just flowed very nicely. There was never a moment where I was like "this feel off," or "why are they talking like that,", it all just fit and felt right.
The plot of this book is the next thing I want to mention. Let me tell you, NOTHING would have prepared me for the amount of times I was shocked and literally had my jaw on the floor with the twists that were revealed throughout the book. Now, yes, you could argue that I'm just oblivious or didn't catch all the foreshadowing, and I mean maybe - though I did catch a lot of the foreshadowing and it was still shocking it me, that's how good it was written. I wont go into detail much since I want to keep this spoiler free, but what I will say is this story had so many layers to it that it kept me glued to the pages for a week straight. And when I say it had a lot of layers, I mean that in the best way possible. I've read a lot of books that feel very surface level, there's one thing the story is about and thats it. And that's not a bad thing, I've definitely enjoyed books like that and will continue to, but there's something different about this one that just kept me on my toes the entire time and I loved it.
Now the writing in Echoes of Night, at least for me, was actually very easy to read - and again, I mean this in the most flattering way possible. It all just flowed so nicely and again, there were no spots where it felt off or that something didn't fit. I wont lie, I did get kind of nervous when I saw the smaller text in the physical copy, it was a bit intimidating for me. But once I started reading I never even noticed it and the pages just flew by as I read (again again, in a good way lol)
-
I might have missed some things I wanted to talk about, honestly I could gush about this book all day if you let me lol but I think I'll end this here.
Echoes of Night gets a 5/5 stars for me, if I could, I'd give it more. There's very few books that can grab me by the balls and have me finishing in a week, - not to mention I tabbed it and highlighted it when I NEVER do that - but this book is one of them. Again, maybe its just me and maybe I'm a bit biased because its a genre I like, but I'll be damned if you try to tell me this book isn't worth the high rating because nothing else I've read recently has had me so enamored and so intrigued.
In conclusion, I loved this book so much and I cannot wait for the next one!
-
(sorry if this was all over the place lol its hard for me to make sense when I'm excited or passionate about something!)

**Thank you to NetGalley, the author and the publisher for the eARC**

**MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS**

Just finished Echoes of the Night by Caitlyn McFarland and it captured me immediately with its explosive beginning. Right from the gripping first scene—where Killian Darrow shockingly kills his mate and another pack’s heir—I was completely pulled into a world of dark secrets, betrayal, and supernatural intrigue. Killian’s actions were chilling, especially with the revelation of a curse driving his violence, setting the stage perfectly for a complex story of redemption and love.

Fast-forwarding five years, Selene Beaumont’s heartbreaking situation instantly won my heart. Her bravery and resilience, despite being wolfless and powerless in her pack, made her a deeply sympathetic and compelling character. When Selene is forced to marry Killian, the very Alpha responsible for her brother’s death, the emotional stakes intensified dramatically.

The romance between Killian and Selene was brilliantly executed—slow-burning, filled with tension and undeniable chemistry. Watching them fight their attraction, only to succumb when their connection became too powerful, was thrilling. Their bond felt deep and real, even though Selene initially believed she couldn’t form a true mate bond.

Throughout the story, shocking twists kept me completely hooked. The revelation about Grace’s betrayal, the true circumstances around Selene’s brother’s death, and the hidden truths about Killian’s lineage all added layers of suspense and emotional depth. The discovery of silver embedded in Selene, releasing her wolf and revealing she and Killian were actually fated mates, was a fantastic and deeply satisfying twist.

The suspense escalated dramatically when Selene was framed as a spy and Finn was kidnapped. I was completely immersed in Selene’s desperate struggle to save Finn and prove her loyalty. The revelation that Bianca and Selene’s own family harbored dark secrets and manipulations added even more tension.

I loved how Selene evolved into a strong, empowered character—a Silverlight Priestess—taking control of her destiny. Her alliance with Asher after revealing the truth about his sister Grace was both emotional and empowering. The climactic battle, in which Selene courageously faced Bianca and united with Killian in a powerful mate bond, was intense and thrilling.

The addition of Selene’s seven unknown sisters tied beautifully into a larger, intriguing prophecy, setting up exciting possibilities for the continuation of the series.

The ending was incredibly satisfying, bringing emotional closure as Selene, Killian, and Finn found happiness and unity as a family. The pack’s reconciliation and unification provided a heartwarming resolution, even as Asher’s departure hinted at ongoing tension and unresolved vengeance.

Echoes of the Night masterfully blends romance, suspense, supernatural drama, and powerful emotional storytelling. Caitlyn McFarland crafted an unforgettable tale, and I’m eagerly awaiting book two to see where this captivating world will take us next.

Thank you to NetGalley, Oliver-Heber Books, and Ms. McFarland for the opportunity to read an ARC of this title. An honest review was requested but not required.

Overall this was a fun paranormal romance featuring primarily werewolves but alluding to all types of paranormal individuals (called "Aspected") in a parallel universe-type near-future America. The werewolves are done in an original way (take it from someone who has read plenty of werewolf books) and the magic system/society structure were clear enough. It's plain that the author is setting up for a much bigger story arc and occasionally the need to lay foundations for that took away from this story a little bit. But I can see the trajectory and once the world building is in, subsequent books should(!) be smoother sailing.

Selene is a "wolfless," a pack member who upon reaching maturity discovers that she has no inner werewolf and is subsequently relentlessly bullied and ostracized. She is traded to a neighboring pack's alpha as a bride in place of her sister, who has no interest in marrying a 'homicidal madman.' Said Alpha, Killian, is saddled with a curse that drives him near insane every night other than new moon, but for some reason Selene's touch nullifies it. The plot moves pretty quickly with enough twists and turns to fill several nights' worth of telenovelas and enough drama for them, too. The relentless bullying and cruelty was difficult to read and sort of killed the joy for me a little bit, although Selene's sweet relationship with her little brother Finn was really nice. I felt somewhat impatient with Killian's absolutely terrible communication skills but I guess he's been alone for what, a decade? I suppose I can cut him some slack but Ms Selene has her work cut out for her, for sure.

I'm hopeful that now that the world building is more established, subsequent books can spend more time on the relationship and plot. I think this story would have benefitted from having Killian and Selene spend more actual time together to grow that spark of chemistry into something more solid. I also thought that . Overall this is a promising start to a series, though, and I really enjoyed the ways the author made it original to differentiate from all the other werewolf paranormal romance out there. I would definitely be interested to see where she takes the series with Selene's half sisters now that a lot of the world building framework has already been done.

3 1/2 stars rounded up to 4 for GR.

In the sometime not-too-distant future (and in a possibly alternate world), the emergence of magic has torn the old world apart, and created new schisms…and it’s within this semi-dystopia of the United States that ‘Daughters of the Shattered Moon’ sits. And it’s quite a chaotic world too, with almost every kind of magical creature appearing, scrabbling for their own order and territory in what appears to be a very fragmented society.

For a first book of the series, there’s quite a bit going on to establish the rules of this particular world, as I’d expected: neighbouring (and warring packs), the emergence of other magical and mysterious species, and in the midst of it, long-lost children of a cruel warlord who need to help save the world. The trope itself isn’t quite new however; McFarland uses the downtrodden-girl-turned-most-powerful-werewolf trajectory, with whom she find her family and clan, except that within the werewolves, there’s lots of infighting, curses and betrayal that she’s inadvertently found herself thrust into.

My few complaints perhaps, revolved mostly around the very clear black-white lines that were drawn at the start. Selena's sister emerges as cartoonishly villainous rather than a nuanced antagonist, and many characters fall firmly into clearly delineated "good" or "evil” categories, save for a secondary character who seems to be leaning heavily towards becoming the lead of the sequel. The romance between Selena and Killian also follows predictable patterns that grow repetitive as the narrative progresses. Their relationship cycles through attraction and conflict multiple times with similar beats, though you can’t argue that the HEA is hard-earned by the time the end rolls around and the hard work is just beginning.

That said though, I’ve read Caitlyn McFarland ages ago and had quite liked what I read back in the day as one of my first few forays into romantic fantasy and decided to give this a go once again, in the hopes my appetite for yet another compelling series would be whetted. And so far, I’m cautiously optimistic. Book 1 is a solid setup for the next and I can't wait to see where this goes.

Echoes of Night has a very promising premise with supernatural creatures and a complex storyline. I liked the unique werewolf system and the plot was a fun mix of forbidden romance, enemies to lovers, and found family. I think the ideas for this book were great, but the execution itself was a little lacking for me.

You can tell the author has a lot of big plans for this series but I feel like there was too much going on to really build a solid foundation. The world-building was almost a little too complicated and made it hard to follow at times. Not only were there werewolves (which I love, and this story was such a unique spin on werewolves) but there were also pretty much every other mythical creature, as well as the story taking place in an apocalyptic world which was only briefly touched on, and there is also a magic system built into all of it as well. Terms like the “Quiet”, the “Waking” and “Wars of Power” were brought up but I never really understood what actually occurred during these events. Same with the dystopian elements, apparently ingredients like sugar and chocolate are a rarity, but then there’s balls and feasts with elaborate silk gowns and dresses and wine? I think the concept is fun and unique, but it felt like there were too many things trying to be squeezed in that it ended up not making sense.

I love a good enemies to lovers, and I liked the relationship between the two main characters but it lacked tension and chemistry for me. The writing was very expository, there was a lot of “this happened, then this happened, then this happened” and I think the story could be elevated a lot more with more descriptive writing to set scenes up and show the story happening rather than telling it. Also, focusing more on pivotal plot points. I felt like a lot of the twists and reveals that happened were quickly glossed over and the story and characters kind of just moved on, and it made the impact of them less significant to me.

I think this series has so much potential, it just needs a bit more development in my opinion. Definitely a fun read for paranormal forbidden romance fans.

Selene Beaumont, is a courageous yet vulnerable wolfless pack servant. Forced to sacrifice herself to the terrifying Alpha Killian Darrow, she's far from the typical damsel in distress. Her quiet strength and determination to survive in the face of overwhelming odds are admirable and make her a captivating protagonist.
Killian Darrow is equally intriguing. Painted initially as a cold-blooded murderer, McFarland skillfully hints at a deeper complexity beneath the monstrous facade. His internal conflict, triggered by Selene's touch, adds a layer of vulnerability that blurs the lines between villain and hero. The mystery surrounding his "curse" is well-paced and kept me guessing about its origins and potential consequences.
The dynamic between Selene and Killian is the heart of the story. The forced proximity and the undeniable spark that ignites between them create a palpable tension. McFarland excels at crafting intimate moments that are both sensual and emotionally charged. I appreciated how their relationship evolved beyond simple attraction, delving into themes of trust, sacrifice, and the courage to challenge long-held beliefs.
Overall, this story is a captivating read that effectively blends dark fantasy, romance, and mystery. The intriguing characters, well-developed world-building, and compelling central relationship make it a worthwhile escape for fans of paranormal romance.

I am incredibly grateful to Oliver Heber books for having me as part of the review team and giving me this opportunity to reconnect with Caitlyn McFarland's works. I first read her Dragonsworn trilogy from Carina Press. The writing was indicative of a first time author. She later republished the series with Oliver Heber and showed remarkable signs of narrative growth. That proficiency has only developed further with this new series starter. World and character building have come a long way from those first novels.

Unfortunately, as with many authors I once favored, the growing trend to include profanity and sexually explicit scenes has tainted what could have been a really exciting paranormal romance. I'm not normally drawn by shapeshifter stories, but I do occassionally enjoy them. The little twist of Selene's wolfless skin healing an eldritch curse on the rival Alpha really had my attention.

The whole plot could have easily been achieved with a clean narrative. This was more about lust than romance. Sad to see the direction intimacy is taking in these modern fantasies. I really did try to make it all the way through but had to give up. I cannot recommend this to any readers, but I know it will be well received by many. 3 stars because the plot, characters, and world were so promising.

Thank you to NetGalley and Caitlyn McFarland for providing me with an ARC to read and review.

I LOVE me some shifters and fated mates. What I love even more is an underdog FMC who doesn't know her worth until her scary shifter mate helps her see it.
Fair warning though, there is heavy focus on bullying and cruelty within the story, and while necessary to highlight the absolute atrocious way our FMC has had to survive, it can be triggering to readers so please take care!

I slid into this story easily and really enjoyed the futuristic world building the author exposed us to throughout. This also plays a huge role through most of the book as Caitlyn lays the foundations for a bigger series with loads of characters and plots so it can take the focus off of the main characters and their story for periods of time. I almost don't really mind this because in the past I have found that I have enjoyed subsequent character stories or books even more than the first thanks to the solid foundations layed within the first.

On the flip-side, I am sad I now have to wait for more books because I finished this one in a single sitting and it is probably one I could absolutely binge. I have really high hopes for the next books so I hope the author can build on this one and turn it into a fantastic series!

After I finished this book, I was trying to think of a way to describe why this book was such a fun read. I think it has something to do with the cool blend of dystopia and paranormal romance. Maybe it was that the author clearly loves her home in Missouri, and really uses the area she knows well to make a unique setting for werewolf romances?

I also loved how the book both had a very possessive male main character in Killian and yet had multiple other characters explain to him that he was kind of being over the top. Turns out there is something awesome about getting to hear men, even fictional men, being reminded that women can make their own choices.

Mcfarland also makes a great choice in slowly exposing us to how this world works, meaning that the world building feels really organic to the plot. There is a mention of a character with a witch father early on, and by the end, we see that this world includes sirens, faeries and other magic creatures.

The ending sets itself up for a sequel, and I am really excited to see the world get bigger and more complex. I'd recommend to fans of Juliette Cross or Lana Ferguson's paranormal romances.

So the first 50% of this book, I was already mentally categorizing it as a 4 star read. I love a good paranormal romance. They are usually pretty easy and enjoyable reads and I find them to be great books to read when you are in a book slump. I felt that this book was no exception for the first half. It was well paced and had all the tropes that I usually enjoy. There were times when I thought Selene should drop Killian but that probably wouldn't make for a good book. Anyway, around the 60% mark I started to struggle. I felt like we were really progressing very much through the book. Every change in POVs would be a recap of events so a large bulk was reviewing what we already know. Then we bring in another character who missed everything that happened and we have to recap for this character. It got to a point where there was more talk about what had just happened and how we all feel about it then progressing through the story line. It wasn't a bad store but the info dumps really left me skimming through many of the ending chapters. As a result, I dropped my rating from a 4 star to a 3 star. Thank you to Netgalley for the opportunity read this ARC.

Really good story, lots of twists!

Selene has been made to suffer at the hands of her pack since they found out she doesn’t have a wolf. They planned to sacrifice her to the evil enemy Alpha Killian Darrow and trick him into breaking the treaty. Only as soon as Killian touches Selene it doesn’t quite end up that way.

I was actually surprised at how good the world building was continually throughout the story, really immersing you in the environment. All of the characters were written extremely well, I even loved the ones we’re supposed to hate! The fighting scenes were also written with great detail which I really enjoyed.
Some of the spicier scenes were a little clunky and were more positioning/moving around than anything else but the rest of the book was so good I didn’t mind that much.

I’m curious to see what happens in the next book, what Vandran does with the book etc and what happens with the sisters.
I’m also kinda looking forward to the fanfics of Killian, Selene & Asher!

Thanks to Oliver-Heber Books and NetGalley for letting me read this ARC early.

This book is fun. It’s a paranormal romance set in a world that is a combination of a fantasy world and our modern world. The setting really adds to the story because we get the best of both worlds while ignoring some of the less favorable parts of both.

The series that is obviously following this book is set up so well! We meet the characters, dive into the world, and get an addictive taste in this first installment.

I’m a sucker for a good paranormal fantasy romance, and I can absolutely see this one going places.

Thank you very much to Oliver-Herber Books, Caitlyn McFarland, and NetGalley for an ARC of this book. All opinions are my own and are not influenced by the manner in which I received it.

Lots of twists and turns in this paranormal romance adventure. A young woman is a pawn in power games between wolf packs and other types of supernaturals and humans. She is the wolfless daughter of alphas of one pack and given to another pack as an insulting bride for their alpha Killian. But she has the mysterious ability to hold off that alpha's eldritch curse where he becomes a mindless killing machine at night on all but the new moon. Figuring out who to trust, protecting her brother, learning secrets of her past and Killian's, all to navigate the forces pushing them together and tearing them apart. It is a bit of a rollercoaster with twists, betrayals, and revelations that just keep coming. I really enjoyed it and look forward to future installments.

Could not put this book down! It's got enemies to lovers, intrigue, spice, fated mates, and magic.

Echoes of Night is the first in the new Shattered Moon series. Killian, alpha of the Shattered Moon pack, is cursed. Selene, the wolfless daughter of Redcedar Hollow's pack's leaders, is sent to die by his hand.

Just when you think you've got what happens next figured out: you don't. McFarland weaves worldbuilding within a quickly moving plot. Whether you're a fantasy lover or tend to stick more towards contemporary romance, you'll find aspects of the book that are right up your alley.

I'm eagerly awaiting book 2!

Echoes of Night has a HEA and does NOT end on a cliffhanger.

LOVED this book. Devoured over a couple of days whenever I had any free time, it kept me totally hooked.
My first werewolf book, and it did not disappoint.
Super excited for the series and I think everything is set up perfectly in book 1, I just hope I don’t have to wait too long before book 2!
I really think it will be a booktok fave of 2025!
Now that the truth is out (no spoilers) I’m hoping that the miscommunication tropes can be left in book 1, they were the only part of the book I didn’t enjoy and felt repetitive at points.

WOW. This was fantastic. I stayed up all night reading it because I had to know all the secrets. This is a paranormal romance, involving two wolves from different wolf packs an arranged marriage...you know the usual BUT there is more to this story & let me tell you. I was hooked. This is the first book, and it does a great job of setting up for the books to come, there is plenty of magic & I can't wait to see more of it show up in the books to come.

What a perfectly delicious romantasy! I am so excited about this series. Caitlyn McFarland has been a favorite of mine for a long time, and this book didn't disappoint. I loved the worldbuilding, the intricate--but not too hard to follow--plot, the interesting characters, the horrible villians, the strong heroine, the magic, the romantic tension, and OF COURSE, the broody hero. I won't give any spoilers, but I will say, start the book early if you have to get up in the morning, because you won't want to put it down.

This book exceeded expectations! If you are not a fan of dystopian society (like me), give this one a try! Selene is the wolfless daughter of the Alpha pair, sent to her death to violate the shaky treaty, and Killian is the rival pack Alpha who murdered her brother. When Killian lets her into his territory, sparks fly, complete with pack intrigue, loyal friends, and secrets that should probably stay hidden.

Magic returned to the world and hell broke loose. Werewolves returned and pack wars started. Killian and Selene’s story is captivating, I was hooked in the first few pages! There is romance, just the right amount of spice, intrigue and a fight for survival against a tyrannical family. McFarland has woven a beautiful new world from the ashes of one we recognise and I can’t wait to return for the next instalment.

Received an ARC for an honest review, and honestly you need to read this!

This was a book where I found the blurb to be promising and expected the story to be epic, with love, adventure abd more. However I found the book to be underwhelming in its actual story. I felt tye story became muddy in places, unnecessary in others and just confused and younger than I expected the book to be. Not one for me unfortunately.
