A fire is brewing in Prodigy, and at the center, two hearts hang in the balance.
But only one of them is human.
As a newly turned vampire, my life is in permanent upheaval. Every day, I struggle to control my bloodlust, and new threats arise at every corner. The coven who turned me won’t stop tailing me, and the only thing that keeps me moving is thoughts of him—my Evan.
But now the men chasing me have a new target, and it’s all I can do to keep Evan safe.
Running for our lives, we stumble onto shifter territory, whose thirst for vengeance can only be matched by my thirst for blood. Trust is tenuous, but an alliance might be our only way out. My sire will stop at nothing to get what he wants, and it’s up to me to protect the people I care about. Do we stay to fight, or do we flee?
The coven is closing in, but Foxx should I will burn the world to save the man I love. The only question is… can I protect him from myself?
I am an Idaho native who grew up dreaming about traveling the world and writing stories. As a child, I would often spend my spare time curled up with my favorite blanket and a notebook, writing another fairy tale. I never would have guessed those fairy tales would one day grow into gay romances, but that is where my heart led me and I am so glad it did. I write about love because I believe it can happen to anyone, with anyone. I also believe dreams never expire, redemption is possible, and true forgiveness can heal us in ways we never expect. I know firsthand how messy life can get, but as any artist will tell you, a little mess is needed to create something beautiful. That’s why I write, to help others see that anything can be beautiful. You can often find me with a mug of coffee in one hand and a dog toy in the other. There is never a day that goes by without my sweet boy insisting on a game - or twenty - of fetch.
JERICHO is the first book in the Free to Love series by Kim Breyon who is a new author for me. This was a great first read of Kim's work. This is the story of Jericho a new vampire and Evan his human best friend. I felt so bad for Jericho and how he was turned. I loved watching these two because they just fit so perfectly together. This was quite the rollercoaster ride with plenty of twists and turns. I love the pack and how they became found family. I can't wait for the next book in the series. I would definitely recommend this book.
This is a new author to me and I enjoy a paranormal book so thought I’d give it a go as the blurb sounded good, plus it’s the start of a series and I always enjoy the ‘set-up’ so to say.
We have our newbie Vamp Jericho and his beloved best friend, Evan who is human. Naturally we have Jericho being madly in love with Evan, and this results in Evan having a ‘Gay for You’ awakening.
As to the plot, I liked it. I’m not doing spoilers but it was interesting learning about all the different powers vampires can have and why Foxx was in effect hunting down Jericho. This led us to shifter territory where Jericho and Evan hide out. We get introduced to the pack and I presume they’ll be MCs at some point in future books.
I like that the life span between Evan and Jericho was discussed and it wasn’t an automatic - turn me - from Evan. They know it’s an issue and they’ll work on it. I get annoyed sometimes with vampire books that they’ve known each other like a week and ‘poof’ human MC is like, yep, totally take my humanity away with no thought behind it. Sigh…
The pacing work - fleeing for their lives, meeting the pack and doing investigating/meeting other key characters in this world and the final battle (in this book). The ending felt a tad rushed, like they just had to jump in without any real plan, and hope for the best? Then we are left with a traumatised character who is going to be the MC for the next book.
A negative is this book dealt with a couple of heavy topics; rape, murder, forced turning yet apart from expressing sorrow or anger over the events, there wasn’t any real depth of emotion. I’m hoping given the MC for book 2 that the author will ensure this character is able to process his trauma and get support.
I received this as an ARC from grayromancereviews.com. My thoughts are fully my own and if you look at my profile I’m pretty honest in my reviews!
"Jericho" by Kim Breyon is the first book in her new Free to Love series. It's a fast paced paranormal with a newly turned vampire, Jericho, and Evan, his human best friend. His sire was a sadist and Jericho runs as soon as he can and because his new coven would use Evan to keep him in line, he takes his friend with him. They end up in the forest with a shifter pack, who are sworn enemies of vamps. There are some twists and turns in the storyline which help keep the story out of "meh" territory. The author does have some original world views into vampire society and power hierarchy. Good pacing, a slightly rushed ending. t's the first time I'm reading a Kim Breyon tale and I'm enjoying it, for the most part. There's some angst and pining from Jericho, as Evan is straight. Or, as these things go, maybe not so much. There is the gay-for-you plot arc with a side discussion of extended life. The couple decides to take things slow; there's lots of smexy times. But no biting. Of course the shifter pack is found family. Suspicious at first: ✅. Acceptance ✅. Willing to go to war with the baddies (the vamps) ✅✅. But they are willing to give Jericho a chance. Good thing as some of them will be MCs further along the series. Not too much new to see here. The author does throw enough in to keep a five star rating and to not be dismissed as standard shifter/vamp fare. I enjoyed the book. I'm willing to give the series a chance. I received an advanced copy of this ebook through GRR and this is my review.
*Tropes: -MM PNR Romance -Vampire x Human -Best Friends to Lovers -Bi-Awakening -One Bed -Found Family -Protective MCs -MCs on Run
*Spiciness: 3.5 / 5
I’ve been searching for a good MM paranormal romance book series for sometime now, and I’m delighted to have found this book. Kim has done a fantastic job at storytelling and creating amazing characters. Main characters Jericho and Evan are complex which adds a depth to their characters and their stories. Jericho and Evan’s journey from best friends to lovers is sweet and heartwarming. They both are extremely protective of each other and will go to great lengths to keep each other safe. Jericho and Evan’s relationship as friends in the beginning of the book and as lovers in later chapters is tested when they are put in challenging and dangerous circumstances time and again. It’s nice to read how Evan doesn’t give up on Jericho throughout the book and is his biggest supporter. I loved how Jericho was respectful towards Evan and didn’t burden Evan with his true feelings and his attraction. Evan and Jericho have been through a lot together and it’s good to see that they prevailed everything that was thrown at them and they end up building a beautiful life together. Will definitely recommend this book if you are looking for next MM PNR romance book series to add to your collection.
Jericho is the first in the Free to Love series and follows the evolving relationship between a newly turned vampire and his human friend and and their interactions with a tightly knit shifter pack. The book uses some common vampire and shifter tropes and I think fans of those genres will find plenty to enjoy here. But I couldn’t help thinking Jericho felt somewhat boring. It read as the same old vampire story and the book never broke a lot of new ground. Now, that isn’t necessarily a bad thing. Authors don’t have to reinvent the wheel every time they write a book, but I think Jericho suffers from a somewhat tired genre coupled with an equally tired plot. There is a bit of twist, which I appreciated and thought was particularly clever, but it wasn’t really enough to lift the novel above the mundane.
I wanted a bit more in terms of plot and character tension and felt like Jericho lacked much original flavor. That said, the book still had its enjoyable moments and there’s enough chemistry between the main characters to satisfy most romance fans.
When I started the book, got the feeling that I missed reading a prequel or something....but that's not the case, rather how the world building was set up. But you soon get caught up in the action and on the why's and who's ...... basically two best friends and one just disappears because of something horrible. This story starts over a year after that event so you are basically finding out what happened alongside the current events. It quite action packed with relentless pacing and quite violent ...and there's plenty of heart-wrenching and heartwarming moments - it all makes for a thrilling & suspenseful read with plenty of twists. Plus - bi/new awakening, found family/friends .... I'll add that the relationship side felt a tad stilted initially - I mean there was a freakout, but it wasn't at the same time. Having said that, it certainly eased into romance with plenty of steam (that van got a workout !! hehehe). Very enjoyable book - new author for me - and can't wait to see what's next !!
We find Jericho, a vampire who has been turned against his will, fleeing from his sire. In the mix he finds himself still hanging around his best friend Evan. Together they run from the abusive sire who will stop at nothing to get what is his.
I enjoyed the pace of the book. From the very beginning we have an already established friendship that is a bit strained. We carefully move on to a state where Evan and Jericho accept the changes that have happened to the latter then build on that connection.
This book will keep you hooked with the explosion of events that constantly occur.
Kim Breyon is a new author to me. When I read the blurb I knew I had to read it. I'm a sucker for a good series and paranormal is my favorite.
I really enjoyed 'watching' Evan and Jericho navigate this new relationship and budding romance. It was a little straight forward without any real fear it wouldn't work out. But it was also a sweet and comfy read.
This book was a good start at creating the world of this series. It has introduced characters that I hope have a bigger role in future books. I am looking forward to the next book in this series and find out what will happen after that ending.
I liked this book, Jericho and Evan are great together, but I felt the book was bit too slow sometimes. The bi-awakening is believable, when Evan allows himself to look Jericho with new eyes. The feeling of pack, of family and belonging is inbuilt in the narrative in a very organical way, it's not the center because Jericho being a vampire is more it and everything that comes with that. This book has a couple of triggers, so please be aware and take care of yourself. I will keep reading this series it has something engaging that I thoroughly enjoyed.
Tough, tantalizing temptation! Evan and Jericho, face unimaginable relationship challenges. Jericho, a newly turned vampire carrying the weight of the world on his shoulders must step in defensive protector of Evan mode along with all his other challenges of thirst and survival. He has to up his tactical and strategic game in a world that is a bit hostile toward him. Great adventure, excellent character opportunities. Good foundation story of world building and supportive character introductions. Well done! I received an ARC and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This was a fine paranormal romance story. It follows a "new" vampire and his best friend on the run. I like how they fall right into the arms of a new found family and the way they start recognising their feelings (through notebook). I loved the sense of camaraderie in the pack and look forward to seeing more of that in the next books. The fight with the enemy was quite bloody but I enjoyed the twists and turns. It's a little weird though that we apparently never even meet the main bad guy.
I found this one to be a bit of a page turner. I had to know what was going to happen next and things were always something happening! Jericho had just been turned into a vampire which put him and his best friend Evan in danger. No way Jericho was going to let anything happen to Evan. During all of this these two start to form more intimate feelings for each other. Yes, I know it is a paranormal story, but I liked the realistic way their relationship and future were handled.
Kim Breyon is a new to me author and I enjoyed her story of two friends finding out that they mean more to each other than they thought they did. The romance is sweet and the overall story provides an interesting backdrop to the happy for now. I did feel like there were a few times when the story bogged down a little, but nothing really bad. Overall a great introduction to this author’s world.
I loved Jericho by Kim Breyon. It's the first book in the Free to Love series. I loved Jericho and Evan's story. I loved how they bonded with the shifter pack over their common enemy and I loved Jericho's vampire power. I can't wait to read the next book to find out why Tobias was branded and what that has to do with Foxx's plans.
"The way his eyes light up when he smiles knocks the air from my lungs. I'd do anything to keep Jericho that happy."
── Honest ARC Review ──
As the #1 fan of best friends to lovers and anything involving wolf shifters and vampires, it was like Jericho was made specifically for me, which doubled as my introduction to Kim Breyon. Experiencing Jericho and Evan falling in love warmed my heart, while the lurking danger kept me on the edge of my seat. She went above and beyond in developing the overarching plot, the relationship between Jericho and Evan, and the family dynamics between the members of the Clearwater Pack.
These boys care so much about each other despite the hurt Evan felt after Jericho abandoned him and the fears Jericho felt that drove him to make that decision and stay away. But they never once gave up on protecting the other. I've grown such an attachment to each and every member of the Clearwater pack, and the speed in which I picked up Tobias right after finishing Jericho can rival that of a vampire. Not only will the author deliver another beautiful love story blossoming in the midst of danger, I fully believe it'll be written in a delicate and genuine way based on this experience.
The author has done a wonderful job of balancing multiple aspects of the story, the struggles of a newly turned vampire to adjust to his new life, holding on the the man he cares about who is still human, escaping the group of vampires and his sire who are looking for him and forging a bond with a pack of shifters who may be the allies he needs to survive. The world building is excellent and the characters are all fully developed and interesting. I can't wait to read more in this series.
4.5/5 stars! This is the first book in the Free to Love series by Kim Breyon. It is a PNR MM romance. What a wild ride! Jericho is a new vampire who wants nothing more than to keep his best friend Evan safe. I loved the pacing of this story and the villainous coven. I can't wait to read more by the author.
A new to me author, one that teased with paranormal story lines and friends to lovers storyline that kept me hooked. My heart was broke for Jericho, after everything he lost, to have been turned so viciciously as well as against his will made him doubt, himself and his abilty to protect the love of his life.
Jericho & Evan were best friends until Jericho all of a sudden stopped contact. Evan kept searching but to no avail. Jericho rushes (literally) back into Evan's life. We find out that during the time he was gone, Jericho left with a secret & that he was turned into a vampire. Back into his life Evan forgives & they try to track the vampire who turned him with the help of the local shifter wolf pack. I was offered a copy from GRR & this is my honest opinion.
I don't give spoilers but I HIGHLY reccommend this book. I had to squeeze it in between Christmas baking and I was annoyed everytime I had to stop reading LOL. This was my 1st book from this author but it won't be my last. I enjoyed the world building as well as the characters. Can't wait for the 2nd one! Lucky for me I have an advanced copy waiting for me to get back to this world!
Loved it from the beginning til the very end! Jericho and Evans story have plenty of twist and turns that will keep you on your toes! This one is a very interesting read! I can't wait for book two! I read an advanced copy of this book and this is my unbiased review!
This book was pretty good, a bit of a slow burn but once the MCs got together things were steamy. The end and lead-in to book 2 sounds interesting, will look for that when it comes out! I liked the found family aspect of staying with/allying with the wolf pack too!
Jericho is struggling with the trauma of being turned into a vampire and now views himself as a monster. There's lots of twists and turns along with a slow burn romance with Evan.
Excellent! The author did a great job of presenting complete balance and depth to the overall story arc and the characters portrayed within. Evan and Jericho were a reader's delight.
I received this arc from GRR for my honest feedback.
