Have you ever wanted to become the character on the page? That’s how I felt every time I read a book written by my favorite author, Nathan Booker. I lived and breathed for his books, because the men in his novels sexually dominated the women, and it made me wish I could dive into the story and experience it for myself. I didn't know that when I met Nathan at a signing that I’d actually get the chance.

But not all stories are fairy tales. Some are kinky, erotic dramas that turn your world upside down. This story—my story, swooped in on me like a silent hurricane, stealing my breath and threatening to destroy everything around me. Nathan pulled me into his world of spicy romance, but with every turn of the page I learn that reading it is one thing, and experiencing it is another.

Includes a new cover, 7 new chapters, and new interior design!

Well.
Another booktok-KU book. (God I despise kindle unlimited so much). This time from a male romance writer, who delves into BDSM, which I support wholeheartedly. But after reading the acknowledgements, the author said, "Haters (of indie publishing) can eat dick." Yep. "...and then (I) can go fuck myself." Seems fair. I happen to love eating dick and masturbating, so at least we agree on that 😁

- Why is this not from the male POV??? C'mon! Give this to us!!!

-I have a problem with the term "alpha sub", probably because I considered myself one, once upon a time. It is not a term that is universally accepted throughout the community. I came to see I was using it for the very reason it's problematic: it screams, I'M NOT LIKE OTHER GIRLS. I'm a boss professionally, so my submission is more special and worthy. Oh shut up. That dismisses and diminishes other's submission. BDSM is the embodiment of feminism, whether submission comes from any gender, with its sacred tenent of consent. So I'll just say I'm not a fan of this author's approach.

-Alina *sigh* She's a juvenile; her point of view, the words out of her mouth, she's exhausting. She's the judgemental newbie, can be condescending about others not "understanding" her masochism. Her 3 BFFs are incredibly patient and open minded and yet she disdains their vanilla choices. Paragraph after paragraph she is more judgemental than they are. Masochism at this level is not for everyone, so pipe down there scooter when thinking about your vanilla friends ffs. Her inner dialogues are excruciatingly stupid. STFU.

-D/s is a power EXCHANGE! Silly Alina reciting her Dom's mantra that she has all the power, pisses me off. 😤 He gave her the mantra, fine, but it grates. Fuck off. Also doms experience drop too. Aftercare is not only to help a sub; it's to make sure to the dom that the action engaged is not detrimental to either party. Making a joke, like, "you did this", to a dom, is not helpful.

-I'll say it again: I so wish this male author had written this from the male POV. I don't believe I would dislike silly Alina as much as I do. Plus, we, primarily female romance readers, could actually benefit from what's going on in male Dom's or any H's, heads. It's a disservice. FFS WRITE THE MALE POV!!

-Her juvenile behavior is classic at this point. Time and again, she is like a 16 year old girl with her 1st boyfriend. She's testy with her BFFs and then so giddy, because... THEY WENT TO LONGHORN STEAKHOUSE AND SHE WAS THRILLED! bwahahaha omg stop. Stop. Stop!! Apparently they accept reservations at the, what 30th largest chain restaurant in the US? Stop it.

-side note: I don't believe I've cringed so hard at the line, "Is it yours or did you rent it to drive up to the Christiana Mall?", in reference to a Mercedes, the driver of which is an author, who is a NYT best selling author, which fact has been bludgeoned into our brains throughout this book, in my life. So this NYT best selling author can't own a luxury vehicle? Rental? RENTAL? WTF 😂 stop, just stop. What?? Why is this included? What purpose does it serve? Am I the freak that can't get over this line when I'm at 65% the way through the book and still thinking about it? Who rents a car for this purpose? Is this a thing? Do people rent cars simply to impress? I'm apparently a bad person, the freak, I now understand that, I'm aware 😂 🤦‍♀️

-good lord the denouement

There are so many excellent things in this book, but I get stuck on, well, stuff. The BDSM is beautifully portrayed and I wish it could have been more of the focus. It's the in between I don't like. Take everything I say with a grain of salt. 🤷‍♀️

I know I swore no more booktok recs, but dammit I really mean it this time! 😂😂😂

I DNF’d this book pretty early on. A male author writing from a female POV is already tricky enough. But when it’s a male author writing from a female POV, and the FMC is gushing over the MMC who is an author who writes romance… it essentially just feels like a book written about how the author wants a woman to view HIM… like he’s really just writing his own who onto paper.

It was pretty cringe and I couldn’t do it for that reason alone, but maybe the story line gets better? I’ll never know.

Alina is a romance reader and the more she reads the more she wants to explore the things she reads in the bedroom. When her favorite author Nathan Booker comes out with a new book , she takes off the day to go get it and read it. When her boyfriend comes over and she wants to sleep with her boyfriend cause the book has her all hot and bothered. When she tries to communicate the things she wants to her boyfriend he pushes her off and breaks up with her the next day. She's feeling a little bad and her friends get her VIP tickets to meet her favorite author they go. When the signing is about to happen eyes meet and everything starts to come together. What happens when your favorite author wants to do the things that you read in the books together? What happens when you find out the truth of his books?

I enjoyed the concept of this book and how it all came about. I really enjoyed a new take on how the characters met and came together as a couple . The development of the characters is amazing. I love the concept of open communication that is being talked about and how it is okay to be open about what you want. I loved seeing how Nasir wanted to show and help Alina with what she wanted to explore in the bedroom.

2.5/5 for me.
This is the first I’m reading this author after finding a promo for this book on his tiktok. What drew me in was the author stating it’s a bdsm book written by an actual Dom. It’s apparent the author knows some about the lifestyle, and that’s honestly why my rating isn’t lower. The BDSM scenes with him are the only reason it’s a 2.5 instead of 1.

I had a hard time with the rest of the story. Particularly how it’s written as a sort of Russian Doll storyline. What I mean by that is the author identifies himself as a Dom who writes BDSM books. Then you’ve got the MMC who’s a Dom that writes about his lifestyle experiences. To add to the awkwardness of that, the FMC is obsessed with the MMC and drones on about him and his books throughout the story. The first two chapters are nothing but her gushing over it.

Docked points for 50 Shades being referenced as a middle ground acceptable intro to the lifestyle.

Add in the fact that the majority of the book reads like you’re being mansplained everything... Irony in that is the FMC raves about the MMC being an author that really understands writing from a woman’s perspective, getting all the details perfectly how women like it.

With the background knowledge this author is a proclaimed Dom, it’s hard to read this and not feel like he’s boasting about himself through the FMC the whole time more than actually writing a story.

Intense, Sexy, and deliciously twisted. This book was so hot and steamy the pages melted as I read, but it was so much more with Alina’s journey of self-discovery in something she craves. Alina finds herself wanting so much more out of her life in the bedroom, but when her boyfriend dumps her and shames her, she walks away. When a chance meeting as a gift from her friends has her meeting Nas, she is of course amazed by him, yet he introduces her to so much more. The journey that Nas takes Alina on is one that leaves the reader gasping and dying for more, but for as much as she enjoys this new lifestyle, she still craves the intimacy of emotions that Nas doesn’t seem to possess. Nas is a writer and his personal life is on that is hot and full of mystery. This was another amazing read by Mr. Greer and the parallels or tie ins we see form his Therapist book in this one made me so happy because you can never go wrong with Malcolm.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5/5 🌶🌶🌶/5

CW - BDSM, D/s, CNC, knife play, bondage, breath play, sadism, masochism

Tropes - erotica, romance, rich

This was a wild ride and I was very very close to giving this 5⭐️. The only thing that was stopping this from getting the 5⭐️ is the fact there is no male POV in this book!!! This book is written by a man, which defo did scare me at first, but I was expecting dual POV.

It was really interesting to hear Nas speak about what it's like being an author writing romance / erotica and being a Black author at that. I'm assuming this is also how W.S. Greer feels about it and I must admit, I was scared to read erotica written by a man but it slapped 🤷🏽‍♀️. This book was really good and I felt like it took the explanation of D/s and BDSM more seriously than other books and not in a way where it feels like you're reading non-fiction. This book is hot af and we still get to see character development that feels natural for them.

Despite the lack of a dual POV, I felt like we got to see into Nas a lot despite this not being from his POV, especially by the end. One thing that I was a bit iffy on is the metaphor of 'darkness' being used to describe her more kinkier desires. This is not the only book that does it and defo won't be the last and I understand that it is the reality for some that they feel like that but I personally just don't like when things like that are portrayed as some other entity that isn't also them. As expected, she reaches a point where the FMC embraces that it is her and not separate to her and luckily for me, this revelation comes sooner rather than later.

Scale:

⭐️⭐️ - shit, but whatever
⭐️⭐️⭐️ - meh, could've been better

Yikes. So many people forgive bad plot lines and just overall bad writing for mediocre smut 😭 if the opening sentence to this doesn’t make you want to put it down then the fact that it’s so obviously written by a man should. I decided to finish because of how short it was and to see if it got any better (it didn’t). When will I learn to stop taking a semi good quote from booktok and think the whole things gonna be good 😭 I’ve been betrayed again and again lmfao.

I wanted to love this book, and I gave it a chance because of a video by the author. I don't read books written by male authors because they are stereotypically not well written and/or get things so wrong that I cringe my way into a headache. Female authors do it, too, but male authors are notorious for it in the romance and smutty genres.

Well.....I got multiple headaches with this one... Spoilers ahead, so be forewarned.

Alina is overwhelmingly naive in her trust and how she jumps head first into things with Nas. And he, as a supposed experienced Dom, is taking major advantage of her trust in him.

Playing at his home with no one to monitor the scene given that it is her first foray into the lifestyle and she is seemingly hardcore masochist, not good at all. SSC, man, SSC! The first priority should always be safety, and Alina's was not taken into consideration!

Nas calling her an 'alpha sub' was shudder inducing. She's just a sub. There are so many people who are in positions of power and leadership in their daily lives who are subs in the lifestyle. Giving up the control for a while is freeing to them and allows them to let it all go and just feel. By the definition given in the book, 70ish% of subs are alpha subs. NOPE! An alpha sub is in a harem or group setting where one takes a leadership role over the others but is still a sub.

My last major cringe was Nas giving her a safe word. OH HELL NO! In the heat of the moment, the safe word should be something that the sub will be able to yell out, something special that they've chosen. In the absence of that, the stoplight system should be used as it's pretty universal across the lifestyle and in clubs. Nas telling Alina that her safe word was a word of his choosing, that's BS and rather pretentious. But it fits since he went through his god complex speech before giving her the fake safe word, or should I call it an unsafe word.

I really had hoped to like this book and go on to read others, but after so many issues with Kingdom, I know I will be hunting for issues in any other books by Greer so this will be the first and last book by him. I'll go back to my female authors and keep my fingers crossed that one day a male will actually get it right, but I won't hold my breath.

** spoiler free review below **

After hearing so much about this book, as well as a recommendation from a friend, I finally decided to give this book a shot and I'm really glad I did.

I read this not knowing it was written by a man at first and, while reading, you probably wouldn't be able to tell either. Of course knowing it was written by a man made me all the more intrigued because the romance genre is dominated women (for good reason.) And I think that's the beauty here. There's none of the ridiculously cliched phrases you would expect from a man's mouth. And he writes Alina so well. A strong woman who knows what she wants-- to be owned.

The story itself was ingenious and while I'm certainly not into many of the kinks these characters are, it wasn't at all off putting. Instead I found myself really enjoying it and that's magic right there. Not only was the dynamic between Nas and Alina so well thought out, I loved the emphasis on the submissive being the one with the real control. So many don't get that part. So. Many. But this author does. And I thank him profusely for that.

This one isn't for the faint of heart but I think it's perfect for those willing and wanting to explore the darker side of their fantasies.

While I appreciate that this book does some work to make erotica and BDSM more mainstream, it fails to either be a how-to guide into BDSM or a deep dive into what it actually looks like to play this way and lands somewhere confusing in the middle.

The characters feel like cardboard cutouts, and love and forgiveness gets way overplayed in the end. The grammatical errors are commonplace and distracting, and a lot of the sexy scenes in the beginning get bypassed in really lengthy obscure, sarcastic sentences.

It feels like this could have been an excellent novel with some peer review and significant editing but got published before it arrived.

I'm glad the book exists. I'm glad the author got something out of it. But I want more from my smut than this.

DNFed it after I read about 70% of it. I kept hoping I’m going to like it but in the end I just gave up.
It is written decently (although I cringed at some dialogue) and I can see why people find it hot. It’s just not for me.

This is not the type of book I usually read, I just picked it up on a whim and decided to give it a chance. I’m glad I did because I realized I’m not exactly into BDSM books. Since it wouldn’t be fair to rate a book that’s not your type I am going to do exactly that: not rate it.

But if you are into BDSM, I would suggest you pick this up. You might like it a lot more than I did.

If i could give this book 6 stars i definitely would. Its been a long time since i stayed up late reading. This author has risen quickly to be one of my favorites. I usually don't pay for a book but this one I couldn't wait any longer to get it. I knew it will good and definitely worth the ebook price. FYI there is a warning in the beginning for rape play and many more that might not be for everyone. Definitely isn't for anyone who has a faint heart. There is some hard-core bdsm in this book.

Some parts on this book you will find yourself having a giggle or two. Wow I'm definitely feeling her anxiety about being next to her favorite author. I definitely understand her being anxious. Omg Vance is something else. He just doesn't understand that someone will no longer be interested in him.

This author definitely put alot him to this book which I loved. Nas is a strong man but without his sub he is weak. For those who love a good bdsm book this is for you. I definitely will read anything by this author. He has a way with words and has spunk.

4.5⭐️

Alina has a side she wants to explore in the bedroom but her boyfriend is absolutely not interested. In fact he makes fun of her and makes her feel bad about it, needless to say that relationship comes to an end. And not in the best way.

Alina’s friends team up and get a gift to make her feel better. VIP tickets to a meet and greet to her favorite author at an event close by. What she didn’t expect was to land a date with said author. But is her favorite author the person she thought he was after their first date or does he other reasons for wanting a date with her?

I enjoyed the character development so much with both Alina and Nasir. They are both learning things about themselves as go. I loved getting to see Nasir help Alina find herself when it comes to her wants and needs.

This book started off really well and I got straight into it. Then it slowly started going downhill.

As the story went on I disliked the fmc more and more!

I didn’t enjoy the conflict, I felt SHE should have been the reason for it! Once it got to like 60% I was pretty much forcing myself to read it. I didn’t like that she kept referring to her BDSM interests as her dark monster. Especially given how open and freeing he made her feel.

Basically once I got to the point where I couldn’t stand the fmc I lost all interest in the book.

And it’s really such a shame!!

Where do I even begin? This was my very first read by W.S. Greer and I'm pretty sure he is now in my top 3 of favorite Dark Romance authors!! Once I started reading, I could not put it down.

I could write a book myself just about my feelings on this story. I went through so many emotions with Alina (FMC). Her character is made of strong will, independence, and intelligence and she's beautifully broken as so many of us are.

Let's talk about the MMC Nathan (Nas) Brooks! First, I completely envisioned his hot physical body and deep, masculine voice. He is what we all want in our book boyfriends until he isn't and then...no spoilers here haha!

I had emotions of understanding Alina about her needs, fears, and wants, then anger, hope, happiness, sadness, and oh my, the hot flashes due to how well W.S. Greer wrote the beautiful spicy & dark scenes. 🥵🥵

The representation of the BDSM lifestyle was explained well and with respect.

Enough of reading my review now, run and pre-order this book as it releases March 12th, 2025. I know for sure I'll need a physical copy for my bookshelf, preferably signed by Mr. Greer himself.

My Immoral vibes with better spelling and grammar.

I expected to love this book.
I tried to like this book.
I ended up finishing out of spite and with a plethora of annotations. This is the first book I’ve ever annotated. That’s how much I cared about it and disliked it.

Greer set themself up for excellence. The book world is woefully devoid of BDSM done right, usually choosing to go a very fantasy route that is unrealistic at best and unsafe at worst, so when I get the chance to read it written both realistically and safely I POUNCE.

To start, both the MMC and FMC are nearly insufferable. The FMC has the emotional maturity of a 15 year old with strong pick-me energy while at the same time constantly belittling herself for her kinks. Girl, go get therapy.

And God knows if I read about the “dArKnEsS” one more time I will buy a used copy of this book just so I can burn it. The FMC references her “darkness” EIGHTY NINE times in the book. And all most of them are in the first 2/3. I was cringing so hard.

The MMC is boring. He talks to the FMC more as if he’s talking to the reader and trying to educate them only in a pompous way. The FMC is allegedly super interested in BDSM so there’s no way in Female Hell she didn’t do a Google deep-dive into what BDSM entailed. His race is discussed one time in what feels like a forced plot point and the conversation is never mentioned again. He half-asses consent, never shares his likes or dislikes or boundaries, and how he “resolves” the problem between the FMC and himself at the end is l a z y. He breaks her trust again and that’s cool?
Lazy.

Wearing c*m in public AT WORK was such a huge turnoff. I know it’s just a book and just fantasy but that’s disgusting. Don’t involve unwilling strangers in your kink life.

I could probably say more but I’m already far past my normal character amount.

The sex scenes are not the best or worst. I would have liked more in-depth kink focused scenes. Some of the positioning had me drawing diagrams because they were nearly impossible.

Anyway. It’s not the worst book I’ve ever read, but it let me down. Every time I thought it was getting more coherent and planned the author would throw something dumb in and I would go right back to disliking it immediately.

I wish her the best in her future writing endeavors.

Not for me.

This book made me realize….I don’t think I have a submissive bone in my body.

I liked Nas for the most part. He was sweet to Alina and a gentleman when he needed to be. Stuck up for her when he definitely didn’t need to.

I did not, however, like Alina. She seems so put together, smart, competent, and professional - but then she makes the dumbest decisions and does the stupidest things and I’m just like ???????

WHY is she engaging with her ex in front of her new boyfriend that way? Major secondhand embarrassment at every exchange they had. She doesn’t handle any of it well.

WHY did she walk around with a messed up dress AT A WORK EVENT????????????????????

WHAT did she think he was writing about after they finished their scenes????? He even said he takes inspiration from real life - that means you, baby girl! He’s an author! I understand being upset that he wasn’t honest about it right off the bat, but flying into a murderous rage is weird behavior.

Also - her annoyance with the fans at the end of the book annoyed me. She did the same thing at the beginning of the book. Calm down.

As far as writing goes - this was good. Overall I liked the writing style, and the spice was nice. A lot of times dialogue between characters felt unnatural though. They say a lot of things to over explain what they are doing.

I absolutely love this book. The writer did an amazing job at capturing how the female felt and still being honest in all aspects of the bdsm life. I have read plenty of books that glossed over the aspects ( such as after care) that wasn't realistic and I loved that he incorporated that among many other things 😀 Great book and its just as great that a man wrote it so well.. soo men can write a good smutty book if they tried.

Liked/Loved it

I have to say, this book blew me away with the level of detail of the BDSM community. I've read a little about it before on my own and obviously fictional romance. As we all know, most fictional books are not all that pure when it comes to BDSM lifestyle. There might be elements, but not necessarily the lifestyle.

The book was...hot. I knew something was going on with Nas and had a feeling he was using his relationship for fodder, but I didn't really catch on to the whole scope of it and damn, bro...when you look up "effed up" in the dictionary, this is the picture there.

I wasn't sure if he was genuinely sorry or not, but as the book went on (and as time passed-thank you, WS for not dragging the changing of the seasons on with dribble) it becomes glaringly obvious he was and Lord so freaking happy Alina got to see it.

There was little plot in this amazingly smutty book, BUT...BUUUUUT...there was surprisingly a lot of heart. The message was strong and clear ("you do you, boo, and eff everyone else") which I very much appreciated. As a woman, we are conditioned from a very young age to think about sex a certain way. Men can be playboys, but women have to be virginal (but who are all the playboys screwing around with then, hmm?) and we're expected to be vanilla while men secretly think they want a freak in the sheets yet can't handle when a woman truly is.

The way Nas (and WS) explain it in the book when dealing with Alina's ex is so freaking perfect and true.

The one thing that kept me from truly loooooving this book is Alina. She's kind of a petulant child. She's so determined to have her friends support her and try to "educate" them on her kinks that she ends up being just as judgmental towards them as she THINKS they are being towards her. I'm not sure if this is how it was supposed to be or if this was the pitfall of a man writing female internal dialogue. Who knows. I'd always go back and forth with loving her and then absolutely hating her and wanting to smack her.

During the acknowledgements I discovered that WS IS A MAN! haha I don't know why I thought this was written by a woman. Actually, I do....because of society. Not very many men in the romance/dark romance smutty world and I just assumed he was female. However, looking back on the book after reading it and now knowing she's actually a he...it restores some of my faith in the male species because Nas is a man written by a man and he's perfect book boyfriend material.

Safeword is "queen" and that's all you need to know.

Thank you, WS Greer and The Author Agency for gifting me a copy of the Special Edition. I truly enjoyed this and will be looking up other titles by WS in the future.

P.S. Fun fact, I've been watching his TikToks and IG reels for a while not realizing he was THIS author when I got the ARC, so that was a fun discovery after the fact.

“To me, it’s simple. I’m a kinky girl, and I want Nas to show me all about the kink and BDSM world while allowing me to give in to my darkness. I want him to teach me to not be afraid or ashamed of it. It’s more than just the books now. It’s his mind that fascinates me.”

Alina is obsessed with author Nathan Booker who writes kinky BDSM novels. When her friends surprise her VIP tickets to a meet and greet, all bets are off.
These two have chemistry from the moment they meet.

Who wouldn’t want to go on a date with their favorite author who happens to write exactly what turns you on the most?!

Nathan unlocks Alina’s most darkest and inner kinks that she was always ashamed of and was shamed for by her ex boyfriend. But through a consensual agreement, role play, and understanding of a D/S lifestyle, these two open up a door of sadism and masochism together. And the sex is 🔥🔥🔥🔥.

“Simply put, I’m gonna make you my filthy fucking slut. You're going to be absolutely disgusting for me. You will be my whore, existing simply for my use and pleasure, until I discard you like you're nothing when I’m done with you. You're for me to fuck, cum on, cum in, and have my way with, because you're my property.”

Alina loves degration, impact play, choking, slapping, bleeding, CNC role play, etc. - There’s also aftercare and a lot of thought and control when it comes to Nathan which is really refreshing to read when it comes down to reading a book like this.
It’s romance.

I have to say this is every readers fantasy. I mean come on it’s like straight out of a dream. It’s not everyday you meet your favorite author let alone have a relationship with them. I was intrigued by the blurb alone!

Nathan Booker is a bestselling author that no one knows what he looks like, let alone really knows anything about him on a personal level. Alina is just living her life day by day with a job she loves and a complicated relationship with her boyfriend who doesn’t quite understand her needs and desires. This book isn’t just about the spice it’s about so much more then that. It shows you to not be afraid of the things you truly want in life.

I was starting to think that this was just a perfect little story and nothing can go wrong. I was waiting for the other shoe to drop and when it did. It dropped hard. I love books that’s have happily ever afters especially when you have to fight for that happiness in the end. We’re all human and none of us are perfect even authors who can write us to be anything. It’s what stood out to me in the first place. Have fun in the Kingdom and happy Reading!

Wow!

This book is a little darker in content than I typically read but it was such a well written, well thought out story.

It starts off with the main female lead and her boyfriend breaking up because she has desires for adult fun time that are on the more chocolate side and her boyfriend is solidly in the vanilla with sprinkles side. He might be a shade adventurous he is nowhere near the hot fudge Sunday that she finds with Nasir.

Now I don’t typically like the third act break up as it can typically just be a conversation between two adults. However this book the break up made solid sense. She was seriously hurt and disappointed in what she was told and found out about his writing process.

He may have fallen in love, which is VERY new for him, he still needs to process her hurt and her anger in whatever way was right for him.

She needed to process her grief over the things he had had lied about and she had to process the person she knew with the writer. They were different and the same.

The break-up solidly made sense here. I very much liked though, how the couple came back together. It was poetic in a lot of ways and also true to them as a couple.

I don’t know if I will read more of this authors work but he has a good writing style.
