Jareau Family #3

The Burial of a Player

Rate this book
Walker Jareau prided himself on being a player. Women came a dime a dozen, and he was like a revolving door... until he met the one woman who threatened to swipe his player card—Jorja Sandifer. The beautiful dancer captivated him from the moment he laid eyes on her. It didn’t take long for the friends with benefits to migrate into an unconventional relationship, laced with a bit of toxicity. Feelings developed, and neither wants to come clean until Jorja has had enough.

The concept of giving a man her heart has always been foreign to Jorja Sandifer. Seeing the effects of heartbreak on her mother made Jorja vow to never give a man that kind of power over her… until she met Walker Jareau. In him, she found a best friend and lover. Try as she might, she couldn’t fight the growing feelings for a man she was never supposed to form an attachment to.

When those feelings surface, Jorja is faced with the harsh reality that Walker will never be the man she wants. She cuts ties with him, but Walker can’t seem to let her go. Realizing that he may have more feelings than he wanted to admit has him fighting to get back in her good graces.

Will these two embrace the feelings between them, or is it a done deal?

“These are the types of games you wanna play? Fine. You forget that I’m a player too, baby. But when I play, you’re gonna feel that shit in your fucking chest. I promise you that.”

This quote pretty much sums up Jorja and Walker!!!!! When my girl said I can show you better than I can tell you 🗣️ SHE SHOWED HIM BETTER THAN SHE COULD TELL HIM!!! Jorja and Walker have been doing the same song and dance for the past two years. Both players in their own right, neither were looking for a commitment. They were all about sex, good food and friendship but just like everyone told them, there’s only so much hunching you can do before those lines start to blur and baby the lines were blurrier than my eyes when they’re dilated at the eye doctor. Jorja has caught BIG feelings and is finally fed up with their current arrangement. She wants more but Walker is like hold up things are fine the way they are why switch up the plan.

Being around all that black love had Jorja yearning for more and sis said if you can’t give me what I need I’ll find someone who can. Walker took my girl for a joke until 5 months later ended up with him seeing her thriving on a date and him crying in a booth to his mama!!! He got his act together QUICK!! Walker definitely put in work to get his woman back and he pulled out all the stops! While I was hoping for more drama between these two I absolutely love how their story was written and I can’t wait to read more from this family!

When your heartbroken phuck buddy says to you, “I can show you betta than I can tell you” believe her. When your heartbroken phuck buddy promises you, “You gon’ feel that shyt in your chest” be prepared for the consequences. Walker Emilio Jareau was not even a little bit prepared for those consequences. For the last two years, Walker and Jorja have, unknowingly, been in a relationship without the title. They have keys to each other’s homes, they’ve agreed upon mutual monogamy, and, when they’re not at work or kickin’ it with their families, all their time is spent with each other. Jorja caught feelings pretty quickly but, because of the agreement they made, she kept them to herself . Seeing the love Jamison and Cartel have for Aleviyah and Adina has her re-evaluating her situationship with Walker. When Jorja tells him she wants more and she’s ready to make their situationship the real thing, Walker is not quite ready to commit. So, sis chunks his azz the deuce and walks away. Because this is a pattern in their relationship, Walker just assumes Jorja needs time to cool off and things will go back to their regularly scheduled program. Five months later, he realizes that is not the case. Walker is your typical man. He doesn’t realize what he has until it’s gone and, when it finally hits him in his chest that he’s in love with Jorja, getting her back won’t be as easy as letting her walk away. Walker had to learn the hard way what you won’t do, someone else will. Jorja had his azz cryin’ in a restaurant to his mama so, he found him some act right and got his shyt together quick, fast, and in a hurry. Walker started pursuing Jorja with purpose and putting action behind his words. He knows what it felt like to lose the love of his life and he is not tryin’ to go through that again. The Burial of a Player did not disappoint. Jorja and Walker came through with all the drama I expected and then some. They definitely put in the work to become my favorite couple of this series.

Jorja x Walker

Haha, 👉🏾 Walker cried to his mommy!
As expected, I loved this book. I think Jorja might be my hero. She told Walker he’s got the right one and Walker did. I love that she stood on her words. As hard as it may have been for her. But these two, they were a match made. The past two years, Jorja and Walker had been in this entanglement. Purely physical. They also formed a solid friendship. It worked for them cause they were the same person and played the same game. But, someone always catches feelings and always wants more. But, after realizing her feelings were not reciprocated, she said no more. But Walker couldn’t handle it. Walker’s eyes finally opened when he realized he was really about to lose his girl, his bff, his ride or díe. Slowly, we see Walker matured up and became the man Jorja deserved. But it was an emotional journey for both.
I love the Jareau clan. The family dynamic and love are top tier. It just makes me want to be part of the family. As always, BK delivered on this. I’m not ready for Reese’s shenanigans, so I hope we get Alaina's story next and very soon 🤞🏾

Jorja and Walker's love story was designed specifically for them. Friends to lovers and a second chance was an interesting read. The book immediately hits off with Jorja wanting more out of this friend to benefits relationship between her and Walker. Walker wants to preserve the dynamic as it is, but Jorja has woken up and wants more for herself and her future. The rollercoaster relationship between these two was vexing. Every time they meet each other, they argue, played games, and leave one person upset and another unspoken. So we're now reading two distinct storylines in which Walker is finally waking up and admitting that he has feelings for Jorja. Now he realizes he loves her, but it's too late. Then there's Jorja, who uses anger to suppress her feelings for Walker while diverting her attention to someone else for the time being. But, you know how it goes, they find each other again despite the bickering and give their love a shot. Tyson chicken was disgusting. I'm still trying to figure out how he thought it would work, and I'm excited for Alania's book.

Jorja and Walker’s relationship dynamic was more relatable to me so I really enjoyed their story (homies, lovers, friends). They both thought they’d never turn in their player card but…here we are. I think Walker always knew what he had with Jorja was special - he was just comfortable. Comfortable with no titles. It took him almost losing her for him to pull it together. Tyson was trash but I want Jorja to listen to her gut. You felt from the beginning something wasn’t right.

The Jareau family series was actually my first read by KB and I can’t wait to read more. I’m really hoping for a story for Roosevelt and Alaina.

I was ready for Jorja and Walker book since book 1 when they first meet. Jorja has an eye opening moment after having a conversation with Walker. Jorja realizes she wants more while Walker wants to stay stagnant. Jorja kept her word and said watch this. Poor Walker crying in a booth with his momma. Walker realizes he loved her and is in love with her. These two fought there love for each other until they couldn’t fight anymore. Tyson, the sound of you getting your ass beat with a bat was well deserved. I hope Alaina and Roosevelt book is next.

Player card burned...

"I’m gonna show you better than I can tell you.” were Jorja's infamous words to Walker and this story was her showing him she meant every word she said.

Jorja and Walker were both players turned friends with allll the benefits. Walker is taking good care of Jorja and she is enjoying being the only girl he caters to. As their siblings start to mature and start getting married and expanding families...the love is abundant and Jorja wants a piece. Her feelings start to shift and she wants more from Walker. Walker is comfortable, living his best life without high expectations he doesn't feel like there is a need to change a thing. Plus they have been down this road before, and Jorja always comes back. He's not worried until months past and he feels like part of his heart is missing. Jorja loved Walker, but she was determined to love herself more. She knows she deserves love, marriage, and family and she is now stepping with intention. Sis was a little too eager, because she jumped in head first with a fboy. Nobody can tell me she didn't see all those damn red flags Tyson was waving🚩🚩🚩. I side eyed her heavy 😒 as she kept entertaining him. I felt like she really just wanted Walker to understand she could move on and that point was painfully made.

When I tell you Walker's Player card was burned up!!! That damn thing was ashes by the time Jorja made her point. Walker shed so many tears throughout this book. He was in his feelings. He could not believe HIS girl had given up on what they shared. They wore me out with the lack of communication, but I understood Jorja was tired of talking. These two were magnetic. Chemistry was so potent it was hard to believe they were fighting the inevitable. This book covered so much..adultery, red flags, the importance of communication, stepping into your purpose, the importance of family, growth of people and relationships. I enjoyed every minute of it.

I feel like there was a big miss in fully describing Jorja. While we knew Walker was light skinned, tall, littered with tattoos with wavy hair. The description of Jorja didn't allow us readers to be able to picture her....she was small, thick thighs, and toned with natural curls, we needed just a little more. Also the cover didn't translate at all, while it was beautiful it didn't depict Jorja and Walker at all.

Give into Love

I think this is my fave Jareau couple. They started out with a best friend’s type deal, and then it turned to a Situationship. When I say that Walker got the hardest reality hit, he did. Our girl Jorja told him, don’t play with me because it’s gonna be you it’s gonna be you that be feels big time.
I want to say I’m happy Jorja continued to stand on her business even when was in her feelings and attempting to move on. Jorja said this is what I want for my future and If you can’t offer it to me at this point in life I don’t want this anymore.Love that for her!

So to say, I was happy that Walker finally got his shit together and then he decided to come correct ,I was definitely here for it ! The date was beautifully amazing.

Good in an oddly sweet story

The title alone had me wanting to see what this story was about. A friends and family love story is my best description for this tale. When the two friends fell for one another and refuse to acknowledge their feelings was the other description. In the third trope, the friends become unfriendly with one another and their close family connections stand in their way of discord. I will admit, I liked this story even with all the terse fighting words and constant mentioning fighting one another. The love story parts overshadowed the irksome areas. Overall, I enjoyed this edition. 4.25 stars...

Love These Two to Pieces!!!🤩

Walker and Jorja finally got their act together! Yessssss! This story was sooooo good! The Jareaus and Liv's and Jorja's mama and grandma are my favorite peeps! Between the "keepin' it real advice" and comedic conversations, these two families make me want to become a member--and I have my own amazing family!🤣 Anyway, I love me some Jorja and Walker and was so glad that they finally came to their senses and got on their grown people sh*t! So sexy and hot, too! My Kindle almost caught fire! Glad I wasn't reading a paperback copy! That book would have gone up in flames!🔥🔥🤣 I am in love with this series and can't wait to see if the other two Jareau siblings with get their own stories. Looks like Alaina already has her sights set on that fine Roosevelt! But I need Reese to come to his senses and leave Liv's and Jorja's mama alone! I don't need him messing with the family dynamics!🤣 Besides, I think Ms. Alicia needs to find out what that Mr. Isaac is working with!🤭Anyway, here's to Jorja and Walker handing in their players' cards for a lifetime of beautiful black love!❤️🩷🖤🤎❤️🩶

✨Book Review✨

“Why would I reconsider being an option? Why would I wait for you to decide that you want to get it right when there are men out here that have begged me to stop fucking playing?” -Jorja

What happens when two self-proclaimed players/friends with benefits break the rules and catch feelings?! A whole lot of toxic shit, that’s what.

Walker Jareau is a proud player. There are too many women in the world to settle down with. Just one was his motto, and that was until he laid eyes on the beautiful and talented Jorja Sandifer, captivating him immediately.

Jorja had decided long ago that Love was not for her seeing her mother heartbroken over men was something she vowed she would never experience, that was until Walker walked into her world!

One thing about the tables, they will always turn. Jorja told Walker she would make him feel it in his chest, and she did just that. With being surrounded by so much black love and watching her sister fall in love, Jorja started to crave her love story, and with her and Walker doing everything a “couple does” without the title, I can see why my girl caught feelings. When she expresses to Walker that she wants more than to be friends with benefits, he doesn’t take her seriously, not ready to turn in his player card. Walker is content with not having a real commitment and doing what they have been doing.

So when Jorja stops dealing with him, he’s caught off guard. He expected her to be in her feelings for a few days and return around like she always did. What he wasn’t expecting was for her to start dating other men. My girl had him weak in the knees, 🗣️ Somebody play Charlene by Anthony Hamilton.

I was so proud of Jorja for standing and putting herself first, even though she could’ve had a grown-up conversation with Walker before dating that trash-ass man Tyson. The 🚩 that was pouring from Tyson was so blinding! Him and his (you know who, no spoilers) could catch these hands!

Walker had to man up and go get HIS woman back and listen; he STOOD ALL THE WAY UP!!!!! The energy and thoughtfulness he put into that date made my heart flips!! These two religions feel like best friends turn lovers. I love how they roast each other one minute, and the next day they all lovey-dovey. And their chemistry in them sheets, oh baby, the spice was 🥵 🥵. That balcony thing. 🫣🫠😮‍💨🥵

Another banger by Kimberly 👏🏾👏🏾

Buried & Awaken Anew

I already knew I’d love Jorja & Walker, but not this much. I don’t do toxic relationships, yet these two really just had horrible communication. I’m so glad they had the guidance of their family to get each of them to see that what they could have was far greater than what they were presenting.

Walker, as funny as he & Reese were, was hit hard by Jorjas love. She was so much like him, yet cared for him in a homie lover friend type of way, that he couldn’t see that they’d surpassed just a situation-ship long before they ever admitted to it. I’m glad that he went through it by losing Ja. She made him feel it, yet she was feeling it too. Either way, I’m glad Walker decided to grow up & claim what was his all along.

Jorja was definitely one of my favorite characters beginning with her sister Livs story. I loved her free spirit, yet loyalty too. She loved on the Jareau family & especially those kids, as if they were her own flesh & blood. I absolutely love that she was a trained dancer. I hope we get more of that from her bc it’s a gift that not many exceed at. I’m so glad she stuck to truly letting Walker go so she could find happiness & a valuable love. I was hoping she didn’t slip up with Tyson, yet he got what was coming to him.

I loved catching up with all the family & if I’m ready for no other story, I’m ready to see who Ms. Alicia & Reese end up with. I’m sure it’s going to be a good one.

I guess I need to find something to pass the time in between this and Adina & Cartels wedding. I cannot wait!

This book was the epitome of you don't know what you got until it's gone. Both Jorja and Walker were adamant about being "players" and not settling down but Jorja caught the bug first and Walker was too late to catch on. It took Jorja basically cutting him off for him to come to terms with his real feelings for her and realize that he wanted more to just be her friends with benefits. I did feel Jorja should have listened to the female family around her sooner and had the conversation with him they so desperately needed to have but I was happy when she finally took him out of the doghouse. I also liked the way that Walker show and proved because it is one thing to say you feel a way but to back it up with actions is a whole other thing. I also liked how supportive he was with her in her career and wouldn't let him or anything else stop her from going for her dreams. I am curious to see where this couple goes in their wedding book as well.

Perfection

Walker really surprised me.
I thought it would take him longer to come to his senses.
I was proud of Jorja for realizing she too was the problem.
They love was so pure and magnetic. I loved their friendship, their compatibility, their passion and the joy that they shared with one another.
The way the Jareau's love on their bonus family is what I desire for all families and extended families.
I'm so happy to have met MY sweet Roosevelt and Baby Girl Juniper. Seriously excited for what's to come with him.
This may have been my favorite Kimberly Brown Release and that says a lot because I love them all.

Walker & Jorja

I was waiting for this book and it did not disappoint me at all. Walker Walker Walker…he should have listened and Jorja told him don’t play with her. I am glad she stuck to her guns because it made Walker become the man we all knew he could be. The family dynamics is everything and I loved how the extended family loves the extended family. When they went to Puerto Rico and the show the put on had me fanning 🤤. I am ready for the next book for sure because this series just keeps getting better and better.

It’s official,I’m bowing out of the Jareau Family Series. I didn’t mind book 1, I felt invest in book 2 but book 3 solidified that I wouldn’t enjoy the remainder of the series. The burial of a player was just too predictable and underwhelming. I honestly think Jorga and Walker should have remained supporting characters as oppose to main characters. Books 1 and 2 already exposed us to their back and forth. This felt like more of the same and I grew uninvested.

At this point, we need a new plot, it’s all extremely repetitive FOR ME. After 3 books, it’s been very similar of
Instant love connection
Denial or unfavorable circumstances that prevent couple fro, exploring a relationship
Parents share their wisdom / unsolicited advice
Jereau boys impose their will/ women comply/accept their fate
Children also somehow having an inkling/ inserting what they want or think
Crazy and completely predictable event
Family rallies, supports and solves issue
Couple lives happily ever after
Somebody gets pregnant /married/engaged

Some where in there is the foreshadowing of another relationship blooming ( it’s a family series so I can’t knock that too much) I love a good series but I was not a fan of repeated plot, the weak storyline and predictability.

I didn’t enjoy this book as much as I did the first two. During the last few chapters I was speeding up so I can move on the next book. I’m excited for Alaina and Roosevelt and that’s what got me to finish this book. I didn’t really like the communication with them in the beginning of the book and Ik they resolved it and I love that for them. I just found it very childish for both Jorja and Walker idk maybe I’m just talking cause I didn’t enjoy it but I expected more and was a little disappointed with there story.

Not a Jorja fan!

Jorja was all over the place and then on top of that she played too many games for me. You can’t start a relationship off one way and then get mad at the other person when mid-stream you want to switch things up. I thought that Walker was a saint for putting up with her old loose behind self. Nope, definitely not my favorite Jareau family book.

Kimberly just writes really good l love stories that make me smile. Walker and Jorja are no different. If you want a benefits turned besties to lovers done well then here you go. All the feels are here.

I love the growth in both these players and mainly Jorja. It’s okay to change your mind and rediscover what you want in life as a whole. Her realizing her worth and moving accordingly was everything. Glad Kim wrote her this way because people, especially men, are only going to do what you allow. As far as Walker goes my girl made sure he felt that in his chest for real 😂. He needed to grown up. His feelings were valid and he needed to own that. In the end it was worth it. Truly the definition of letting go to come back better and stronger.

Of course it’s always good catching up with the other Jareau family members. Now the only thing i wish that tyson was wrote differently. Like a good guy that would’ve gave Walker a true run for his money. On the other handle it shows how some men prey on women they feel are broken so they can mistreat them. All in all i loved the book.

Quotes/moments:
“To leave you, I have to first be yours.”

“You break your own heart when you tell yourself you don’t even feel anything for anybody.“

“Baby, you couldn’t handle me. I’ll have you somewhere in a corner sucking your thumb wondering where you went wrong.”

“These are the types of games you wanna play? Fine. You forget that I’m a player too, baby. But when I play, you’re gonna feel that shit in your fucking chest. I promise you that.”

“I know you feel it,” he said, gripping my flesh. “I wanna feel it too. Give that shit to me. Act like you know this is my pussy.” She betrayed me like the triflin’ bitch she was.”

“If there was one thing I had no respect for, it was a married ass nigga that disrespected his wife.”

Man Down

I’ve been waiting for Jorja & Walker’s story since the first installment of this series. You could feel the chemistry sparking between them from the moment they met in book one. The story ended up being everything I hoped it would be. Ja was not playing games with Walker. It took him a minute to get himself together but he finally did. The only thing that would have made the story better is if Walker was given the opportunity to lay hands on Tyson. He was garbage that needed to be taken out. I can’t believe that his wife stayed with him. She expected Ja to know about her but hell his own family didn’t even know about her. I’m really looking forward to Reese’s story however, I don’t know how I feel about him with Ms. Alicia. That seems like some form of incest.

a beautiful burial!

Ugh my heart can’t take it at all!
To see those two grow up just warmed my dang heart!
To see them both come to terms with where they went wrong was chefs kiss but seeing Jorja admit where she could’ve done better at communicating just did it for me! We don’t see the woman admit to where she could’ve done better too often. Just the hurt in her. Granted that hurt was justified but we all gotta take accountability. I love that Walker could do that and knew he had to love from afar.

But I just love love loveddddd it!

Now come on Alaina! Gon head and get your Rose 😉

Where to start

I will say it took a lot for me to start this book. I downloaded it the day it came out but couldn't bring myself to read it until today. I knew it would be emotional for me because I relate to Jorja so much, and I have my own Walker. It's so easy to fall into that best friend/friends with benefits role, and before you know it years have gone by and you are stuck wondering what now. I'm happy everything worked out for these two. I'm glad things didn't go further with Thomas. Also I glad Jorja acknowledged her part has well because Walker was getting a lot of heat even though he deserved most of it.

The Burial of a Player

Worth the wait. Jorja and Walker’s HEA was worth the journey they had to take. They both went through self discovery and they both owed up to their ‘wrongs’. Love and relationships are heavy on communication and having the space to be vulnerable, and I loved how this was shown. I loved even more how Jorja put her needs and wants first, she was going to get the love and commitment she needed.

FROM PLAYER TO FIANCE

I loved Walker and Jorja's story. Their friends with benefits story showed just how involved a person's feelings can get. Everyone around them saw that their chemistry was more than what they made it seem. I loved how Jorga admitted to her feelings for Walker but made it very clear she deserved more than what Walker was willing to give. She definitely showed him that she would not be played with. It took some time, but I was glad Walker came to his senses and realized Jorja is more than just his friend. These two were made for each other, and the support they received from the Jareau and Sandifer family was beautiful. I love how blended the family has become. Their journey was beautiful and filled with so much love. Can't wait for what's next for Alaina and Roosevelt. Will Reese ever get hit with the love bug. This is turning out to be a great series.

player no mo!

How I waited for this book!! Walker and Jorja has been playing in our faces with their “friendship “ for a minute now. Nowwww we get to see what happens when they both have to come to term their feelings being a little deeper than they have told everyone. Walker is trying his hardest to hold on to his players card!! His inability to be honest with himself and Jorja may cause him to lose his best friend and love of his life. I was so invested in Walkers and Jorja’s story! I love this entire series!!! I need more of the Jareau clan!!
