Monika Ritter #6

The Infiltrator

Rate this book
It is May 1944. Something huge is coming.

After a well-earned rest following their collective escape from the Reich, Monika Ritter, her husband, Michael, her cousin, Sarah, and her fiancé, Oliver, resume their respective duties. Michael returns to Switzerland to fly for the OSS once more.

Sarah goes to Berlin alone to continue the flow of information from the most critical OSS asset in Nazi Germany. Oliver, a former Wehrmacht soldier, is sent undercover into a British POW camp in Wales with a mission to integrate himself into a group of potential escapees before embarking on a secret mission at the heart of the D-Day landings.

Monika is dispatched to Austria. Her task there will be to oversee a group of native infiltrators sent back to eliminate a brilliant German general in his summer home. But when the mission goes wrong, Monika will once more have to take the lead and, through cunning and ingenuity, see out an assignment that could change the face of the war.

Eoin Dempsey was born in Dublin, Ireland in 1977. He grew up in the beautiful Dublin suburb of Dalkey, where he and his friends would jump into the icy waters of the Irish Sea (during summertime) to prove their manliness. Eoin had a fantastic time attending Blackrock College, where he played rugby (poorly) and did his best to coast his way through. Eoin’s first ambition was to play rugby for Ireland. Due to a lack of talent, he soon abandoned that goal for the more reasoned path of the rock star. He played in bands through his teens and well into his twenties before harsh reality came calling, and his dreams of being the next Keith Moon faded.

Eoin made the ill-reasoned decision to study business in university and was accepted into University College Dublin to study Commerce in 1995. While Eoin did attend college, studying wasn’t his priority there.

He met his beautiful wife, Jill, while traveling to the USA in 1997, though it would be several years before he managed to break her down and they got together as a couple. It was during Eoin’s second stint in the USA, which he spent with his brother in New York City, that he decided to start writing a novel, for the express purpose of impressing women. This effort was met with mixed success. Eoin finished his first novel a year later. The over hundred and fifty rejections he received from publishers didn’t discourage him. He pinned them to his wall. After spending a year in Australia, where he was fired from many jobs, including picking red and green peppers and toiling for scallops miles out to sea on a fishing trawler, he returned home and decided to write again. Another novel followed while he phoned it in at a number of jobs in financial services in Dublin.

By this time Eoin had managed to convince Jill, the girl he’d met in the USA years before to move over to Dublin. She did so in 2004. It was the best negotiation he ever undertook. They were married in 2007. Jill’s more brilliant negotiating skills led Eoin to move to her hometown of Philadelphia in 2008, just in time for the economy to collapse. The plan to live with her parents for a few weeks turned into eighteen months, as Eoin struggled to retain employment in a fractured economy. It was during this time that he wrote FINDING REBECCA, which would go on to be his first published novel and be translated into fourteen different languages.

Eoin and Jill have three beautiful sons, Robbie, who was born in 2015, Sam, born in 2017, and Jack who came in 2019. Eoin enjoys playing with them and marveling at how much more talented they are at the sports that he loves, particularly golf.

Cannot wait for the last book in the series BUT I don’t want the story to end!!! Never ever have I been a fan of war stories. Any others I could never get thru the first chapter. No really not even one chapter!! , and I’d fold (this is the first ever war reference series that I can’t put down and wait impatiently for the next instalment!!) but this is more than that. Start with the first Monica Ritter or best of all go back and start with the Lion’s Den series. It doesn’t start off “war-like” so I was hooked from the first few pages of the Lions Den. Hooked…Line and sinker. Brilliant writing struggled to put each and every book down. The infiltrator I read in two days and I work and am my mums caregiver so very busy but that’s how hooked I am with each fantastic story. I am going to read the whole series again from the Lions Den once I read the last Monica book (she’s an amazing character 🩷)….Thanks Eion…just fabulous x

In the prior books Michael and his new wife Monika are operating out of Switzerland on behalf of USA during WW II. Monika in Bern’s OSS office run by Mr. Dulles and Michael in special Airforce unit based in Switzerland. The main characters are from previous books by the author. Michael’s past included a move to Germany with his family to have a better life during the great depression in the USA. When Hitler came to power Michael met Monika, a German girl, in Germany who he eventually marries in New York in their early 20’s just before the USA entered the war.

In the prior book Monika is embedded in Berlin with her cousin Sarah in Sarah’s friend’s apartment sending German intel to Dulles in the OSS office in Bern. Michael aviates missions on behalf of allies from Switzerland. Sara becomes engaged to Oliver, a former German soldier serving on Russian front who switches sided to fight for the allies.

Michael escaped a Nazi camp with help of Monika and Sarah; then they retrieve Sara fiancé, Oliver from back woods of Germany where he was hiding out.

This book 6 is an action-packed story about each of the four individuals who are sent on their own mission to defeat the Nazi’s by Bern OSS office. It is a real page turner, and I could not put it down until it’s conclusion.
The trials and obstacles they encounter and overcome are heroic and make the book credible.

The author’s power to make the lives of these characters seem historically real is incredible.
Their tales of espionage ring true with actual circumstances that occurred during WW II with US spies stationed in Europe.

Eoin has written a great epic series on the Ritter family prior to this book.
This book is beyond any of my expectations!

Eoin is terrific at painting an historical picture of the WW II’s times in Europe with his words.

World War II enthusiast? Jump back to the 1940s with its sights and sounds from a US Army Air Force base, fearless spies, gigantic bombers, threatening gunshots, and a ravaged country land surrounding Berlin. Witness how the protagonists undertake the arduous goal of emancipating Germany from the clutches of the Nazis.
Best-selling author Eoin Dempsey doesn’t disappoint. Here’s another exhilarating read from Eoin Dempsey’s Maureen Ritter Series. Each and every chapter is dynamic in its tension, dialogue, and tone. The impressionable characters allow us to share in their scenes of love, compassion, and resilience.
Throughout the novel, there is no slowing down the pace, and details from historical events are captivating. The reader is continually engaged in the horror and glory that is the Second World War.
Applause to the author and thanks extended for a very good read!

I have enjoyed Eoin Dempsey’s Ritter series set during the 1930’s and later during WW2. This spinoff is Monika and Michael’s part of the series, and is set during WW2, where she is a spy working behind enemy lines, and he is a pilot, flying bombers.

Things are really getting tense for all four main characters in this book, with all four safely delivered back to Switzerland, only to be sent back to the war yet again. Sarah is going back to Berlin. Oliver is infiltrating a POW camp in the hopes that he and other soldiers can be sent into France to disrupt things once the Allies land. Michael has critical bombing runs to make, and Monika may have the most dangerous mission of all, as she’s assigned with a group who need to take out a German general. This one had me on the edge of my seat and I can’t wait for the next. 5/5 stars.

The Infiltrator picks up right where the previous book left off, reuniting Michael, Monika, Sarah, and Oliver in London before they are sent off on separate missions. Of course, the reader knows the significance of it now being May 1944 and that D-Day is only weeks away. The timing made me even more anxious, fearing the characters could get caught in the crossfire as the Allies landed on the beaches. Monika continues to be a total badass as she is constantly underestimated by men, both allies and enemies. I love how she uses gender prejudices to her advantage, allowing her to complete the mission when others fail. This is another excellent addition to the stellar series...I can't wait for the next one!

Intense as Always

The plot, characters, and descriptive locations make it come to life like a movie inside my imagination. I can feel the drops of sweat from stress and feel my hands shaking along with the brave people living out this story as it i was there with them and they were real.

It is tense and disappointing when things go wrong. Even though they are not totally devastating, my heart still sinks with the loss and set backs they face.

I like that the book ends on a positive note but I know the next book will have new lists and setbacks for our people. I can't wait to read it.

I adore this series and I read this latest book in just a day - so hard to put down and now the hard part will be waiting for the next book to be released! Monica, Michael, Sarah and Oliver have escaped the Nazi clutches and it’s now May 1944. Each of them is going back on the eve of D Day with unique missions to help the Allies win the biggest battle yet! Will they succeed? Rip-roaring excitement from start to finish! Can you tell I loved it???

Eoin Dempsey is a remarkable writer. He sets a great pace in his work and each situation and character is real. There is a subtlety to it all. It makes you want to read the next book and the next. Because his setting involve the historic WWII, you end up learning a lot about the world and how people reacted to events. 5 Stars

Breathtaking action on all sides

This book will have you holding your breath much of the time. It is very suspenseful and I never knows from one page to the other. What is going to happen. Our heroes and heroines make progress, but are in danger at every turn. Definitely worth reading.

This is the 6th book in the Monika, Michael, Sarah and Oliver series. Each of them is cast into their own assignment in bringing down the Nazis. This book is a cliffhanger, hence the 4 star instead of 5, and if you don’t like cliffhangers, wait for the next book before reading this one.

I have enjoyed this series of historical fiction. The characters are well developed. It is an 8 book series so it is quite a commitment but it is well worth it.

Another wild ride with the 4 main characters giving their all for the cause of war! There's a little more than a year before WWII ends so I'm anxious to see what more can befall them. Loving the characters...such an exciting read.
