Do you think it’s possible to change fate?

I’ve dreamt of how I die since I was a little girl. I always thought it was just a nightmare, a figment of my overactive imagination—at least that’s what my parents told me.

But one day I meet a man who has the same eyes I’ve seen a thousand times in my dream, and I start to question everything I thought was real.

Is it possible that premonitions exist?

He isn’t just any man. He’s Luka Russo, star hockey player of The Kings of Hart University and my best friend’s brother.

When she asks me to help him because he’s on the brink of being benched for his grades, I jump at the opportunity to not only tutor him but also find out what his connection to my dream is.

What I don’t bank on is falling for the hotshot jock or him falling for me, the nerdy bookworm … and I definitely didn’t bank on finding out my dream is real.

Fate may have brought us together. But will she also rip us apart?

RTC after I stop crying…it’s fine, I’m fine….😭

Ok Ive stopped crying and had time to think so here's my review:
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5
🌶️.5/5
📚 First book in The Kings of Hart U Series
📓 Debut Author
🏒 Hockey Series
🪄 Paranormal Twist

This book really had me in my feels, like actually crying at the end of the book. Thats pretty unusual for me so this book really took me by surprise how emotionally invested I had become. This book is a little unusual as its a contemporary Hockey romance with a paranormal twist!

Lilly is a smart, driven, college student who is in her Senior year and getting ready to graduate and go to Med School to be a Peds Dr. Lily however has a secret, she's been having premonitions of her death since she was little and in those dreams shes recently seen a beautiful pair of gray eyes that she would recognize anywhere.....Lucky or unlucky for her she does in fact recognize them, when she comes face to face with her best friend Stella's twin brother Luka. Thats where the magic starts to come through.

The love that Luka has for Lily is seriously top notch, his golden retriever energy when he finally commits to not standing in his own way is a whole other level....I mean it kinda has to be to not only believe your GF about her dreams, but to go all in to help her try and solve them.

The book was killer, especially for a debut author. The Epilogue, the extended bonus epilogue and the sneak peak of the upcoming book had me so invested that I cannot wait to see what happens next for Stella, Rowan, and he who must not be named.

Last Shot is a deeply emotional new adult romance that delves into themes of trauma, second chances, and healing. Wren’s writing is engaging, filled with raw emotions and well developed characters that make the story feel authentic.

One of the book’s strongest aspects is how it balances romance with personal growth. The characters don’t just fall in love, they help each other heal. The friendships and sports culture add depth to the story, making it more than just a romance.

Last Shot by Willa Wren is a hockey romance mixed with a paranormal twist. When ice hockey star Luka has to put up his grade in order to keep playing ice hockey, his sister’s best friend Lilly agrees to be his tutor. But Lilly has a great secret: from an early age she has a premonition about her death and each time she saw beautiful eyes which calmed her. And guess what eyes Luka has?

I have read many hockey romances and this book has a great and unique plot and story-line. I loved it and could not stop reading. From the very first I was totally hooked. Lilly is a great character: she is a bit nerdy, shy. She loves to study and when nervous she talks about random facts, which is kind of endearing. She does not know what to think and do when she meets Luka for the first time. He is captivated by her, and he feels something pulling him in her direction. Luka is wonderful: he is a tough ice hockey player, but also very loyal to his sisters and friends. When Lilly’s dream progresses, she finds out there is more to it from her Grandmother May and that woman is just wonderful. We all need someone like her. She accepts Lilly who she is and totally loves her. The growing relationship between Lilly and Luka is just fantastic and I was rooting for them.

The side characters come across really well too. I loved best friend Stella and some of the teammates of Luka are great. As the story progresses, we find out more about the dream and what it means. Together with Luka Lilly searches for something to end it all.

The writing style is fast paced and flowing and I had a really hard time putting the book down. The story is captivating, it is filled with humour, romance, drama, mystery and fantastic characters. There are several twists and turns which made it all the more engaging. I loved this book and I can’t believe I waited this long to read it.

As the story ended, we get a glimpse in the next book in this series and I want to read that book now! I cannot believe this is a debut novel and I cannot wait to read all Willa Wren’s books.

If you love hockey romances, you really need to read this book, but you must read this book because of the plot. It is unlike any other hockey romance story I have read.

Highly recommended!

I think I will forever be in my hockey era. Even though I've never watched a game a day in my life. There's just something about rough and tough hockey players falling for "the" girl, especially when they don't want to. Add in a debut book by a debut author and I am all over that like white on rice. The fact that the book is also written in 1st POV & in alternating POV - with an couple of extra POV's thrown in, make it *chefs kiss*.

Lily is the super smart, "nerdy" girl who skipped a grade in school and is working her way into med school who is also best friends with an outgoing, good time, bubbly girl - who's twin brother Lily has never met. Lily also has a family curse that has haunted her since childhood and the only comforting thing from her nightmares are the silver eyes she sees. Then she meets Luka, see's his eyes and knows who he is. And knows how much closer her family curse is to coming true.

Luka is the star hockey player, who works hard at both hockey and school but really only succeeds in hockey. At risk of loosing his playing status, he lets his twin sister bully him in to getting tutored by her bestie, Lily. Luka is drawn to Lily from the start but doesn't want to be so he does a bit of hot and cold with her, being friendly and flirty at first but then scared of loosing it all, he cuts himself back to being "just an acquaintance" which causes a rift in their budding relationship. After seeing how hurt Lily is, and getting a pep talk from his bestie Rowan, Luka works hard at rebuilding their relationship so that they work their way up to and past friends to lovers.

Then Luka finds out about Lily's curse and together they work to find a solution to keep her premonition from coming true while also navigating their relationship, school and hockey. When the day arrives and we finally learn how Lily can live past her curse, well, it left me in tears. I was legit lying in bed, crying quietly so I wouldn't wake up my husband. The epilogue lifted my spirits back up, and I can't wait to see how Rowan works his way back to being his happy go lucky self, if he gets to be. And I can't wait to see who Stella ends up with!

What a Twist!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Spice: 🌶️
Hockey Romance with a Paranormal Twist and it totally works!

I would’ve definitely finished this book right away if I didn’t get sick.

I went in blind and ended up loving it. This book grabbed me from the first chapter and I couldn’t put it down! It’s a friends-to-lovers romance with a supernatural twist that makes Lily and Luka feel like fated mates without the werewolf storyline, which felt super refreshing. Willa did an amazing job blending romance, mystery, and sports into something really unique.

Lily is a smart, driven FMC with dreams of becoming a pediatrician. Luka is a college hockey player struggling with his grades. Enter Stella Lily’s best friend and Luka’s sister who introduces the two so Lily can tutor him. The chemistry is instant.

This is where it gets really interesting Lily has had premonitions of her own death in her dreams for as long as she can remember. But after meeting Luka, she realizes he’s the pair of eyes she's always seen in those dreams. Once they start their relationship, the dreams become more intense and more real.

I loved Lily and Luka’s connection the way they understood and supported each other was beautiful. Luka is sweet, patient, and protective, and Lily is just as caring and strong. The dual POV made their bond even more powerful. And yes there’s spice, and it’s written so well!

Stella and Rowan were also standout side characters, and I cannot wait to read their story in the next book!

If you’re looking for a romance that’s heartfelt, mysterious, and a little otherworldly this is a MUST read!!

Let me start by saying this book is beyond any amount of stars I want to give it.

In her Senior year at Hart U, Lily finally meets the man who has been in her dreams since she was a ping girl. at least his eyes have been. Now, she has to try to figure out why is in her nightmares. (Nightmare or premonitions)

As soon as Lily and Luka meet the sparks are instant. It is like a force of nature is pushing them together, no matter how hard they fight it. And they def. fight it too. One, Luka is Lily's best friend's (Stella) brother. And two, he wants nothing to in between him and hockey.
Her being his tutor makes achieving this pretty impossible to say the least. Also, that force I mentioned!!!!

The love these. Two end up having for one another is what fairytale are made up of. It is beautiful and so true. The love Lily has with her grandma is just as beautiful. Soul crushingly beautiful!

This book, for me, is up there with Say You Swear, Icebreaker and the Briar U series. Ya, it's that good! It has the funny with all the emotion of Say You Swear. This is. Going to be one h@ll of an amazing series when it is all completed! And it is from a debut Author!!!!!!!

Last Shot is Willa Wren's debut book and the first in the Kings of Heart U series. It is a contemporary Hockey romance with a cool paranormal twist, and that is what hooked me! I never expected to be in an emotional chokehold, but here we are.

Lily, the FMC, is devoted to her studies and hopes to attend med school. However, she has been keeping a secret since childhood: She has been haunted by premonitions of her own death. In these dreams, she sees a pair of beautiful eyes. Only when she sees these eyes in person does she know the curse is coming to fruition.

Luka, the MMC, is a star hockey player who struggles with schoolwork, which threatens his place on the team. Taking the advice of his twin sister, he agrees to tutoring with her best friend, Lily.

Be it fate or chance, these two meet and sparks fly. The two of them together are just adorable. Everything built up to an excellent ending! I can’t wait for the next book in the series! Great job, Willa!

Thanks to Willa Wren for gifting me an eARC of Last Shot. I am leaving this review voluntarily. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Lily is the quiet nerd girl with not a lot of friends trying to graduate pre-med early. She has a secret, she’s been dreaming of her own death since she was a little girl and she always thought it was just a bad dream until she meets her best friend’s brother and recognizes him from the dream. Luka is the star hockey player but is failing all of his classes and needs a tutor to be able to compete and Lily offers to help him. Can their chemistry overcome their fate?

The story was very interesting but I was stuck on some real factual issues, especially about hockey. One part that was important to the plot and happened several times was fighting in college hockey in games AND practices which would get a player automatically ejected and no one gets drafted in the middle of a season, they might sign a contract but that’s something else. The spice was good but the story felt a bit drawn out. I liked the little shot of paranormal, though I wish we got more of it. Really loved the ending and now I’m super ready for the next story in the series! It was a good entry into the world but I didn’t love it by itself.

The King's of Hart U Book 1

Wow! Now that I have stopped crying I can get this review written, this is one hell of an emotional rollercoaster that you want to keep on riding!

Last Shot follows Lily, a college senior who has been dreaming of her death since she was a little girl, but one day she finds the man whose eyes she sees in her dreams. They belong to none other than The Kings of Hart Universitys own star hockey player, Luka Russo, who also just happens to be her best friends brother!

Now without giving much else away this absolutely fantastic story will pull at your heart strings as well as making you believe in fate! The way that Willa has created this universe and set up for future stories is incredible and I cannot wait for more!

I would heavily recommend that you give this a go and be chomping at the bit for the next one! For fans of Hockey Romance, Best Friends Brother, Paranormal Twist, Dyslexia Rep and a very satisfying Slow Burn.

I loved this book and the paranormal twist was excellent. This was a great debut novel for Willa Wren and I am so so so excited to see what else she writes.

Lily is your typical smart girl who can recite random facts at anytime about most situations. What makes her not typical however, is her ability to dream about her death. Ever since she was a little girl she has had vivid dreams that seem to get clearer and more intense in time.

Luka is the college hockey player heart throb. However during the middle of the semester he is told he needs to get his grades up if he wants to continue playing. After confiding in his sister she has a suggestion that her best friend, Lily tutor him. The moment he meets her in the library for their first tutor session, he knows he will do anything for her and that scares him more than anything.

Luka struggles to balance what his heart and head tell him. While Lily tries her hardest to not fall in love because she knows her time will be cut short. The journey they make together is told beautifully. I don't want to give any spoilers so that is all I will say. But you should really read the book to find out the rest.

Thank you Willa Wren for allowing me to read this book and leave an honest review for you.

I’ll be honest at first I was skeptical that I would like a hockey romance that had a paranormal element to it but I was pleasantly surprised. I think the paranormal piece to it seemed pretty realistic and not too far fetched in a way that it wouldn’t fit into the story line.

The overall love story of the book was so cute and adorable romance. It is all about the smallest things that matter and truly believing in each other when others may think they are stupid or crazy. One of my favorite parts of the book was the scene where Luka is playing pool and Lily says the most cheesy line ever but it was the perfect thing for the moment. I literally laughed out loud when I was reading it.

Also the set up the author did for the other side characters in the book to make a second one that you get a small preview to at the end is soooo good, I cannot wait for the next book to come out now because I am very interested to see what happens with the next main characters.

Lily has been haunted by vivid dreams of her own death since she was a child, each vision accompanied by piercing eyes that seem to watch her intently as she meets her end. This central theme of ominous premonitions adds a captivating layer to the narrative, keeping me on the edge of my seat as I anxiously tried to piece together the clues and predict what fate awaited her.

The story also excels in its portrayal of humor and camaraderie among the characters. The witty banter and playful exchanges create a warm and genuine sense of connection within the entire friend group, not just the relationship between Lily and Luka. Their interactions make the characters feel relatable and real, drawing me deeper into their world.

And the ending—oh my goodness! It left me breathless and yearning for the next installment. The suspense and unresolved threads have me eagerly anticipating what comes next

Okay I couldn't put this book down and as soon as I finished it I went looking for more by Willa Wren...I was surprised to see this was her first book--it reads so much better than most debut novels! I will just have to wait until *Missed Shot* comes out.

I loved this take on basically fated mates without shifters, it's the first I've read like it and I really enjoyed it. I thought Lily and Luka had a lot of chemistry and Willa did a great job using their POVs to explain why they do what they do, I can't stand when I'm always guessing about a characters actions when I should be in their head. The friendships they have with others are fun and I can't wait to see who gets together in the rest of the series.

There is some spice, but it wasn't as much as I thought it would be and I thought it was done well. There was also quite a bit of language, but that's what you get inside a college hockey star's head I guess!

Ahh! I absolutely loved this book! It had the perfect mix of hockey, romance, and just the right amount of conflict. Some moments had me kicking my feet in excitement, while others had me yelling at my book—literally!

The Last Shot follows Lily, a pre-med college student who has been haunted by dreams of her own death since childhood. One day, she comes face-to-face with the man whose eyes she’s seen in those dreams—Luka Russo, her best friend’s brother and the captain of the King of Hart U’s hockey team. When Luka finds himself in need of a tutor to stay on the team, fate (or something more?) brings them together in ways neither of them expected.

Will Luka Russo be her saviour or her downfall?

I highly recommend this book! I was invested from the first page to the last and cannot wait to read more from Willa Wren.

Lily has been having nightmares as long as she can remember. Well, not nightmares. One recurring nightmare, and it’s about her dying. Lily’s parents have always written her dream off as nothing, and Lily has been prepared to do the same until she discovers the mysterious set of eyes from her dream belong to her best friend’s smoking hot hockey playing twin brother. Together they’ll try to unravel who they are to each other and the family secrets that have been kept for far too long.

This book was okay. I don’t think it benefitted from the magical twist to the contemporary sports romance. Lily’s life is chaotic and interesting enough without it. I am very much looking forward to Wyatt and Rowan’s story with Stella in the next book!

Do you ever finish a book and have to take a few minutes to process a crazy ending? That was this book. This was such a good book, especially for a first time author. From the very first chapter, this book will pull you in. This is definitely not your typical love story or romance novel. The intricacies of Lilly’s dream continue to unfold throughout the story, even when you feel like you have it all figured out. The characters are all very well developed including some of the more background characters. This book will have you rooting for Luka and Lilly from start to finish. I am excited to see where the author goes next in this series!

Reading this book was one of the best experiences I've felt in a while and the way their story transcended was almost magical. I love the characters so much and how every single one of them had their own charm and mystery. I love how they always had each other's backs and especially the love that Luca and Lily had for each other. I'll go to sleep every night, hoping that one day, I'll find a love like theirs.

I 100% recommend reading this book if you want a college hockey romance with a paranormal twist, and the PLOT felt so real, like it was actually happening in real life. And stay tuned for the end because you'll be crying :)

This book had my heart from the start. I love the idea of fate in a love story and the pull between Luka and Lily was undeniable. The banter between them and the way they supported one another is complete life goals. The book managed to have the tension of Lily’s nightmare/omen building to a heck of a crescendo that had me almost wanting to hell at her for being so dense. The ending was perfect too, just enough to leave you satisfied, but not so much that it feels too tidy. It’s got me excited to see where book 2 goes with a different couple.

I absolutely adored this book. This is a great balance of hockey romance and the paranormal.

Lily's story as she navigates the difficulties of senior year, pre-med while staving of her grisly premonitions is gripping, but the added friendships with Tessa and Stella and the budding romance with star hockey player Luka had me hooked.

This book was an emotional journey in the best way possible.

Can't wait to see more from Willa Wren in the future!

The story completely captivated me from beginning to end. I was so invested in Lily's journey and what would happen to her and where Luka came into these dreams and premonitions. The way the spirits were portrayed was truly fascinating. ✨ I couldn't put it down! Has anyone else read it? Let me know what you thought! 🤔 I'm highly recommending this book to everyone I know. It's definitely a must-read! 👍

something different

I really enjoyed this story, it had me hooked form the beginning. I’ve had it on my tbr for a while and decided to finally give a try and was pleasantly surprised.

I loved the premise of Lilly seeing her death in her dreams and trying to figure it out before time runs out with the help of her boyfriend Luka.

However it felt like something was missing, I wanted to see more development between Luka and Lilly chemistry wise, it kind of felt rushed

Lily has dreamed of her death since she was 5. A pair of eyes were her only comfort during them. Her senior year of college her best friend asks her to tutor her twin brother. It's his eyes she's dreamed of. This book is hilarious. I love the push and pull of the characters. Plus Luka is a new book boyfriend. I love this book.

I really appreciate Ms. Willa Wren for giving me the arc for this book! I enjoyed my time reading this book and I really loved Luka. Now, I rated this 3 stars because I didn’t enjoy her writing style. This book read like a wattpad story to me which isn’t bad bc I LOVE reading wattpad books but that’s not what I was expecting going into this book. But this was overall an enjoyable read!

It shows personal growth between the characters, healing, and it will make you cry multiple times! Excited for the next book by the beautiful Willa Wren!
