The Kraken's Queen

Rate this book
For the past five years, all Erin has known is pain. But no longer.

With the help of Grym Hollow’s strange protector, The Guardian, Erin can finally escape her prison. Hastily, she signs his contract to start a new life in a faraway land and marry the Kraken King.

The nightmare is over. But is this monster any different?

Allarick can’t afford to trust anyone above the surface…until he must take a human wife to protect his underwater kingdom. What he doesn’t expect is the broken, battered woman who shows up on his shore. Or her selflessness and tenacity in the face of danger.

While their enemies move on land, a new threat emerges in the depths—the Leviathan, a creature that attracts people to their doom with its haunting song. If the sea falls, the whole world will go with it. Except, their love has the power to seal it away forever—if only they can embrace it.

Book three in the Grym Hollow series. Each book follows one couple and ends in a happily-ever-after. The books can be read in any order, but reading in numerical order is best.

Third book in the series, this time following a match for the Kraken King.
It was a sweet healing journey, balanced against the action and mystery of the threat to their kingdom.
I liked how Erin really grew into her leadership role and was an inspiration.

Thank you so so much to the author for sharing an ARC of this book with me!!! I’m so friggin excited to get into book three of the Grym Hollow series !!!

“More importantly, I want to watch as she puts her broken pieces back together again and finds her strength”

“I want her sage. I want her happy. I want her”

“You’ve looked true evil and darkness in the eyes and didn’t let it destroy you, even if that would have been the earlier option. You saved yourself time and time again … if that isn’t bravery, then I don’t know what is”

This book was AMAZING !!!! There’s nothing I don’t love written from this author !!! From the Dragon’s Rose to this book, the Grym Hollow series has taken over my entire personality and every book always leaves me desperately craving for more. This time it went even deeper. From the epilogue of book two were left with an idea about what our FMC, Erin, has been through and why she has decided to accept the offer of the Guardian. What we learn from her is strength, hope, determination and love. A chance to happiness and to know your worth. I cried while reading this book. It made me emotional. And then Allarick … he is perfection. Not only the MMC we all would fall for. But the man who respects her. Her boundaries, her necessity and her space. The man who would stop at nothing to see her safe and healthy and recovered from the evil she has faced in her life. And when she finds her strength back … she jumps at his tentacles … literally !!!! And it was spicy as heck !!! And I loved it !!! It was the perfect about of spice for the plot and the characters development and in happen right when the characters had grown enough with one another to enjoy intimacy to the fullest !!! And to be fair … these monsters men can deliver alright !!! I can’t wait to read another book from this universe and from that epilogue … I know book four is gonna be WILD !!!

“I will always be there when you need me, Erin. You have carved your name into your heart, and I’m afraid it can’t be undone”

“And what did you expect, sweet girl?”
“A man” … “But I am learning I’m much more of a kraken sort of girl”

“Good girl. Now, put your arms above your head. Hold on to the headboard.”

I want to thank BookSirens and the author for a copy of this book in exchange for review.

I love this series! Alvarez has such a way with words. She paints this vivid and complex world in fairytale retellings that have you sitting on the edge of your seat. The romance and spice are also always on point.

Erin's backstory as a survivor of domestic violence is treated with a lot of care throughout the book, and I appreciate how this book had a softer male protagonist, Allarick. Erin's entire journey through the book, while emotional, was also such an interesting take on the story of Ariel. I particularly liked how her strength continued to grow throughout the book the more she leaned into the gift that gives her magic in Mescos. Allarick is also a dreamy counterpart who treats her with so much care and respect throughout the book.

I do think that this book's side characters were a little weaker than previous side characters throughout the series. They were present and important but I wanted more of their back story. Maybe we will get lucky and Alvarez will write a novella about Atina, Allarick's sister but I don't know. I do wish that Delmare and Iris were on the page a little more. We got a strong sense of them as dutiful parental figures, particularly for Erin, but I wish there was more dialogue between them and the main characters.

Although, you do not need to read the previous books to understand the present one I did appreciate how the previous stories were also interwoven into this one since each story takes place in a different realm of Mescos. The characters that Alvarez has developed have made me truly invested in them and the outcome of this story. I am already so excited for the next book in the series.

If you are a fan of romantasy this is a series that you desperately need to read. Alvarez is an exceptional writer. This book takes the idea of the Little Mermaid and makes it more emotional and romantic all at the same time. Highly recommend!!

Grym Hollow has completely stolen my heart! One of the things I adore most about this series is how these women—after enduring such brutal and heartbreaking journeys—find the one man (I hesitate to say monster because, let’s be honest, it’s usually everyone else who’s the real monster) who mends their broken heart and fills the void in their very soul. This is especially true for Erin. Her backstory is utterly gut-wrenching, but Allarick is everything she needs and more. His fierce devotion and willingness to do whatever it takes to keep her safe had me swooning. I loved how he respected her boundaries, allowing her to heal at her own pace, piece by piece. And Allarick—oh, how I loved that he was the one to fall first! His admiration for Erin's strength and determination was everything. Every small victory she won against her past, he celebrated with such tenderness. Plus, can we talk about those tentacles for a second? I guess you can officially count me in as a kraken girl too! 😏 Another thing I absolutely loved was how Erin and Allarick actually get to know each other before getting married—what a refreshing change! Despite Allarick’s urgent need to marry, he refuses to rush Erin, insisting on waiting until she’s ready and gives her full consent. It was beautiful to watch Erin discover her own strength and carve out her place by Allarick’s side. As with the first book (I still need to dive into the second one), the world of Mescos continues to captivate me with its rich and mesmerizing details. The intricate world-building combined with wonderfully multifaceted characters creates a realm that I never want to leave. This time, exploring Allarick’s underwater world was an absolute treat! The hidden secrets, the looming threat of the Leviathans, the very embodiment of chaos, kept me glued to the pages. The stakes feel impossibly high, not just for Allarick’s world but for all of Mescos if he and his people fail. I am absolutely in love with this series and cannot wait to reads more.

Tati does it again with this one. She has such a way with words. She paints this vivid and complex world in fairytale retellings that have you sitting on the edge of your seat. The romance and spice are also always on point.
Allarick and Erin are simply 🔥🔥
I loved their chemistry, it was just simply sweet. Allarick was the kindest, sweetest, and patient Kraken King. But protective as well.
The Leviathan’s are attacking the people of the sea, a sirens song that even captures sirens...
King Allarick must find the cure to the curse the Leviathan’s are unleashing. All with the help of his new Queen. Erin.
I enjoyed watching her find herself after her previous relationship left her broken in pieces. Of ourse with the help of the Kraken King, how couldn't she.
I could not put this book down once I started. There was never a slow moment, while at the same time not being overwhelming or jumping all over the place. I almost wish it were a bit longer to see more from some of the star side characters.
I do think that this book's side characters were a little weaker than previous side characters throughout the series. They were present and important but I wanted more of their back story. Maybe we will get lucky and Tati B. Alvarez will write a novella about Atina, Allarick's sister or Delmare and Iris. I wish they were on the page a little more. This story features a lot of patience and healing, with a fantastic love story, and it's just so wholesome! The heartbreak and hurt and then love and hope. In varying orders and degrees.

My 3 out of 5 star rating consisted on the fact that I enjoy reading fantasy/ romance/ romantasy so I feel like this is a cute story and had potential to possibly be even better but fell short TO ME.
I felt like the dialogue between the characters could have been better. However this isn't awful.

I rated the book 2 out of 5 chili peppers for spice simply because the spicy scenes were more explicit and again TENTACLE PLAY. This isn't a smutty crazed book but it is enjoyable.

This is the 3rd book in the Grym Hollow Series that revolve around a land full of creature (shifters) who are mated to humans. There is an appearance of the main characters from the first and second book.

This is a story for anyone who doesn't want to think. If you just want to read a faced paced lovers story it has soft praise kink, soft dom, TENTACLE PLAY, arranged marriage, fated mates without having to think too much or anything then I recommend you read this. This is also a great filler/ in between reads book as well.

Check the trigger warnings!!! There are some dark/ heavy topics in this book.

This follows Erica and Alaricks sweet story through overcoming past relationship echos and understanding and patience. They fall in love slowly but this isn't a slow burn b y any means. it is fast paced.

I really enjoyed the attention to detail that Allarick showed in regards to his Queen.
I don't want to give away too much of the story.

This was the first time that I read a book liked this with tentacle play. It was sweet, faced paced and straight to the point.

If you want a more in dept video review check out my youtube/ tik tok/ instagram/ facebook pages soon.

I explain the TENTACLE play scene.

Tati B. Alvarez has crafted a truly enchanting world in The Kraken's Queen. This is a story that will pull you under (pun intended!) and keep you hooked until the very last page. Erin's journey from a life of unimaginable pain to finding strength and love with Allarick is beautifully rendered. Her resilience and willingness to open her heart, despite everything she's endured, is truly inspiring.

Allarick, the Kraken King, is far from the monstrous figure you might expect. Alvarez paints him as a complex and deeply caring ruler, burdened by the weight of his kingdom and desperate to protect his people. His tenderness towards Erin, and the unexpected connection they forge, is heartwarming and utterly believable.

The world-building is superb. The descriptions of the underwater kingdom are vivid and imaginative, and you can almost feel the salty spray on your face. The threat of the Leviathan adds a layer of thrilling suspense, and the stakes feel incredibly high. The plot is well-paced, keeping you guessing with twists and turns that never feel forced.

But what truly sets The Kraken's Queen apart is the focus on found family. The supporting characters are richly developed and contribute significantly to the story's heart. You'll find yourself rooting for everyone within Grym Hollow and Allarick's court.

Overall, The Kraken's Queen is a beautifully written, emotionally resonant fantasy romance. It's a story about healing, acceptance, and the power of love to conquer even the darkest of monsters. I highly recommend this book to anyone looking for a captivating read with strong characters, a compelling plot, and a touch of magic. Definitely a new favorite!

This monster shifter romance (ok, he’s really not a monster though) is the third book in the Grym Hollow series, a set of fantasy romance stories where each book follows a different couple and ends with a HEA. There are numerous spicy scenes and some dark topics so please read the trigger warnings. I received an advance review copy and my thoughts are my own.

Tropes and themes include:
✨Portal fantasy
✨Arranged marriage
✨Hurt/comfort
✨Tentacle play
✨Fated mates
✨Found family
✨Soft dom
✨Fairytale inspired

Rating: 5/5 Stars 3/5 Flames
Nickname: Sweet Girl

The Lovely: Full disclosure - I alpha read this story and have re-read it multiple times since then as it has become a comfort read for me. I love the relationship between the MCs - how they both come to it, how it develops, how he treats her - all of it. This is a story of the FMC learning how to live and be loved after an absolutely horrid abuse situation. The hurt/comfort vibes hit just perfect and I was reduced to a puddle multiple times (my alpha read comments can prove this up).

Recommendation: I recommend you go read this - immediately. While you can read this story without reading the prior two (plus a novella) books, all are pretty short (approximately 300 pages) and you get the full villain arc reading all of them. This is *the* read for a swoon worthy book boyfriend, a broken but strong FMC and all the emotional feels.

THE KRAKEN'S QUEEN is the third full-length novel in the Grym Hollow series and I loved every word!

Erin has been through hell at the hands of someone who claimed they loved her, leaving her half dead - literally. Allarick has his queen but will she be able to cope?

You know what? I adored Allarick! He never doubted Erin personally and was in awe of her strength, even when she thought she had none. He supported and encouraged her from day one, respecting her boundaries and letting her set the pace. And Erin herself? She broke my heart! I was egging her on every step of the way, her small steps being celebrated by me just as much as Allarick! When she finally broke free of the chains of her past, it was amazing to see, as well as being spicy! 😁 The safety she found in Allarick and his tentacles was so well-written. After all, it wasn't tentacles that had hurt her!!!

You would think after seeing his two fellow kings and their brides, Allarick would have realised that trying to keep his new bride safe and protected just wasn't going to work. I mean, come on, dude! BUT it was for the right reasons, so I'll let him off!

As with every book by this author, it was well-written, well-paced, with amazing world- and character-building. Hot and spicy, tender and caring, it's all here. I know once I pick up a book by this author, I'm going nowhere until I've finished it! And what an ending! Did I have a satisfied smile on my face when I read the epilogue and found out what happened to James? Why, yes I did! And bring on the next book!!! I can't wait.

In case you haven't realised yet, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this book and the series! It would be better to read them in order but you could read them as standalone IF you wanted to miss out on the fabulousness of the others.

** same worded review will appear elsewhere **

* A copy of this book was provided to me with no requirements for a review. I voluntarily read this book; the comments here are my honest opinion. *

Healing and Love

JUST STOP!!!! Tati does it again with this one.

Five stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Spice 🌶️🌶️🌶️.5

The heartbreak and hurt and then love and hope. In varying orders and degrees.

Let’s see you get:
•tentacle play (didn’t know I was ready for this!). •Healing.
•Mental Health and Anxiety rep. I kid you not-the descriptions -same. As someone that battles with panic/anxiety attacks and has someone that is my rock -this hit home.
•He falls first.
•SO MANY AMAZING QUOTES!!! From Strength to praise and pride. Me gushing and turning red at some of them.

I don’t think I once wanted to punch or yell at the FMC (Erin). Which I usually do because you know-they can be annoying. But I think with this story it was relatable (not the whole living under the sea or being married to a Kraken). But the representation. Knowing that I have had moments where certain feelings took over. Where it was hard to do anything. I got it. But I also know it’s just a story. That I THOROUGHLY ENJOYED.

I must apologize though because I didn’t finish this in the time I wanted to. I have recently been reunited with my family (after a tour overseas) and have been soaking that in. Thank You to Tati and her team for allowing me the opportunity to read and review another amazing story.

BUT THAT EPILOGUE!!!!!!!! Ready to see that next match up and root for her because YES MA’AM!! 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽.

This was easily my favourite book in the series to date.

Like our other heroines, Erin comes with a troubled past. It’s the whole reason they were chosen by the Guardian. But Erin’s past is harder for her to overcome, and for her future husband too. She’s fragile, but she’s strong and determined to do right by herself and her new people. She’s a lover, not a fighter, but she finds a way to fight against the Leviathans anyway.

Allarick is a very sweet main. He’s a genuinely good guy, and he’s a lot more involved with the day to day and person to person aspect of leadership than our previous love interests (that we’ve seen on page anyway). He’s full of love and compassion and genuinely wants to do the right thing.

The two actually get to know each other before they get married - huge win here. Allarick has a clock counting down, he needs to marry this woman ASAP to help save his people. But he waits. He won’t marry her until she’s ready, until he gets explicit consent. It’s a constant theme with him- explicit and enthusiastic consent. There is literally nothing sexier (plus he has tentacles… win). And she gets to learn about him, and about a love a lot less violent than the one she’s known.

And they do all this while trying to save their people and their kingdom. Multitasking legends.

Kraken King Allarick agrees to a human bride chosen by The Guardian to strengthen his kingdom and people. What he doesn't expect is the broken woman he receives. Erin has been the victim for too long, and her desperate escape led her to make the deal. A marriage for survival. She doesn't know what she was expecting, but the caring and kind king is not it. Slowly, Erin learns Allarick's nature is to protect, and she finds herself relaxing in his care. However, as they learn about each other, his kingdom faces the threat of a lifetime. Erin has to bring up the courage she once buried and find her place in the kingdom under the sea.

I didn't have kraken King on my bingo card either this year. Man, it's like I barely knew myself when I filled out those squares! Allarick puts men and monsters to shame with his empathy and devotion to Erin. We love a man who uses his ✨️assets✨️ to bring his girl out of a panic attack. Erin was stronger than she thought because our girl looked at everything, took a deeper breath, and dove in (literally). Not only does she find her place in the world, but the king and his people adore her. It's a truly envious dynamic. Their growing connection and unwavering loyalty was a true gift to read. I also loved the ending where we get to see the other human queens and their guys bring in the united front of the land. Bring on the next one!

The Grym Hollow series is a wonderful, unique series following multiple different couples as they join combined forces to fight against a common enemy! While you *could* read this first, I recommend reading the other two books first as those couples are seen in this book.

Erin doesn't know what to do. She thought she would have her happily ever after with this man, but when he starts to physically abuse her to the point of her passing out, she knows the only option of escape is to sign the contact to be the Kraken's queen.

Allarick knows the attack is coming but doesn't know what else to try. Reluctantly, the Kraken Kong agrees to call upon The Guardian to find him a human wife. But when she comes to him, Broken and afraid, the urge to protect her is instant.

This is a beautiful story of healing, him falling first, and learning to trust. I finished this book in under 3 days, perfect for a palette cleaner of the high fantasy books i usually resd. If monster romance isn't really your thing, this book (and series) is a perfect introduction. Yes, there is some spice, but that's not the main plot.

We still have two more areas that have yet to find their human wives and I'm very excited to read their stories as well!

The Kraken's Queen follows Erin and Allarick, the Kraken King, in a captivating tale that blends slow burn romance with dark, haunting themes of the past. Normally, I’m not a fan of slow burns, but this one surprised me in the best way—it kept me engaged from start to finish. Erin is a strong, resilient woman who, at times, just needs a reminder of her own strength.

When Allarick’s kingdom is threatened, Erin stands by his side to protect her people, and it becomes a powerful journey of rediscovery. The beauty of this story lies in Erin’s growth and how much a person’s environment can shape who they are. Their bond is tender yet fierce, and the way they navigate their individual struggles together is truly heartwarming.

This book is a beautiful exploration of self, love, and the power of standing together in the face of adversity. There’s also a nice touch of spice 🌶️, with a simmering tension that builds beautifully throughout their relationship, making for a satisfying and emotional ride. If you're looking for a slow burn with depth, emotional growth, and a little extra heat, The Kraken's Queen is definitely worth the read.

Yeaahhh I honestly loved this one, I’m a sucker for sweet gentle soft FMCs who need to heal and the green flag golden retrievers who help them. Sometimes you just need a healthy loving sexy romance in a sea of enemies to lovers, and this was so refreshing. Erin’s story is harrowing and believable, her PTSD and trauma feeling authentic. And Allarick’s response was genuine, a desire to help but also feeling helpless, not knowing what to do. This didn’t feel too insta-lusty for me, yes things progressed quickly but it’s also a standalone (and I don’t think they even kiss until like 50% so…) There was no slow burn angst though, just two people getting to know each other while one navigates a new situation and the other heals from horrific trauma.

I wanted more spice though. Those tentacles were intriguing and I could have done with more 😏🦑

This was a nice chance of pace from the constant bratty sarcasm that comes with adversaries, and instead just the enjoyment of characters growing into their strengths, and two deserving people finding love. 🔱

I know I can always count on Tati to give us a sweet, spicy, action filled read, with found family feels. Not to mention quick and fun to read.
And once again, I'm not disappointed.
Allarick and Erin are simply 🔥🔥
I loved their chemistry, it was just simply sweet. Allarick was the kindest, sweetest, and patient Kraken King. But don't worry, protective as well.

I enjoyed watching her find herself after her previous relationship left her broken in pieces.
Course with the help of the Kraken King, how couldn't she.😏
Let's just say he knows how to reward and apologize to his queen. 🔥

That epilogue though, has been so excited for the next book, I have a feeling it's gonna be the wildest one of this series. 😍

Thank you Tati for the arc. 🫶🏻

🌶️: RCRS 8 (pretty descriptive open door scenes)
I’ve been following the Grym Hollow series from Dragon’s Rose, and I am a huge fan of the message behind the series. This notion that women who have struggled (for various reasons) can find their place and power in this new realm where their kings literally need them in order to save their world. These bruised and fractured women step into their roles as leaders and draw on the lessons learned through their past struggles to help turn the tide of the war on this world. Yes, it’s romantasy and so you know it’s going to work out for everyone in the end, but I truly feel that the character studies in this series are wonderful. They are on the high spice side for my taste, but given how much I’m enjoying the rest of the series, I know I’m going to stick it out.

Thank you to Tati B. Alvarezand Flying Pig PR for the opportunity to read and review The Kraken’s Queen prior to its release.

I knew I was going to love the Kraken book, and boy DID I.

Allaric is everything, and Erin deserves the world. They're also hothothot together, and don't @ me, we've all wondered about tentacle play once or twice.

I'm liking this world more and more as we delve deeper into it, and am getting a better grasp on the magic humans supposedly possess. Each new entry into this series expands on what came before and provides more information, so I'm excited to go meet the Demon king next.

The author writes an engaging story and tells it how it is in a tasteful way that makes you feel something for each character involved. While abuse is featured heavily in this, it's not used to shock for the sake of it, but to propel the story further.

My hat off for that achievement!

... and if we don't get Ender's story at the very end when all the kings of Mescos have their mates, we riot.

This was an amazing story! A great stand-alone that doesn't require you to read the other books in the series to understand the plot and what a plot line it was! There is first and foremost an overarching love story between a Kraken and Human. And second, there are foes a plenty actively looking to silence a growing relationship and some lives altogether. Now just sprinkle in some second-chance tropes, steamy love scenes, I-told-you-so moments, shining character growth, and some fierce battles… and you have this amazing creation.

I could not put this book down once I started. There was never a slow moment, while at the same time not being overwhelming or jumping all over the place. I almost wish it were a bit longer to see more from some of the star side characters. I highly recommend.

Tati B. Alvarez’s The Kraken’s Queen offers an intriguing mix of high-seas adventure, mythical creatures, and romance. The world-building is immersive, and the concept of a kraken queen is refreshingly unique. The story has some exciting moments, and the chemistry between the characters is enjoyable.

However, the pacing can be uneven, with some sections dragging while others feel rushed. Character development is inconsistent, and a few plot points could have been explored in more depth. While the writing is engaging, some areas feel repetitive or underdeveloped.

Overall, The Kraken’s Queen is an entertaining read for fans of fantasy romance, but it might not fully satisfy those looking for a deeply layered narrative. Worth a read if you enjoy oceanic fantasy, but it may not be a standout in the genre.

"Pride, love, and devotion for Erin swirl in my chest, making me choke on the affection I have for my wife."

Tati does it again!

This author has the ability to write the most relatable and most fantastical characters.

I just love the love our main characters have for each other.

Although this may be considered a "monster romance" (We've got tentacles people), this is just so much more.

The relationship is built on a strong foundation, and our main characters work together! (Love this trope, normalize this trope).

This is a story with not only toe/tentacle curling spice but also of personal growth.

I love the world the author creates, and I love how all these stories are standalone but also intertwine with each other.

I am excited to see where Tati will take us next!

🔸️Honestly speaking, the cover suggested for me that the story will be kind of dark and twisted, however I have found it definitely comforting, rather on lighter side (despite FMC's trauma) and with ultra consensual relationship.
🔸️All above is not exactly my preferences BUT if someone is looking for MMC who is loving, doting, gentle and supporting protector, then Allaric is definitely right guy.
🔸️The story has solid lore and interesting world building.
🔸️Overall, the romance might be too low angst for me here but as I am intrigued by created universe I will definitely check out other stories from series.

Erin wasn't sure she was going to survive, but The Guardian shows up and assures her that her new life will be more than she ever dreamed of.

Allarick isn't expecting what he sees when The Guardian shows up with Erin limp in his arms. He has no idea what has happened to the woman that is to become his wife. But in that moment he is sure about one thing, no one will ever hurt her again.

The characters in this story are amazing and the world building is top notch. You get drawn into a world that knows no bounds.

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

This book was a truly wonderful reading experience. The story of Iris, who is abused by her husband and only sees one way out. And this is signing a contract for a life with a stranger who is also not human. Iris meets the king of the Kraken, Allarick. This Allarick is cautious and gives her time to heal. Meanwhile, Allarick's underwater kingdom is in danger. The Leviathan. And the only one who can save his people is Iris. And Allarick's half-sister, Atina, also plays an important role. Iris, who has always had to suppress her music, can now use this. The other brides also appear in this book. A beautiful story, definitely worth reading and recommended.

Erin lives a nightmare. Her family has long passed away and her partner delivers abuse on a regular basis. But...there is a way out. Erin knows her life is surely forfeit if she doesn't escape soon. A contract to marry the Kraken King, how bad could it be? Seizing the opportunity, Erin changes the course of her life and Allarick's. A beautifully written tale of reclaiming ones life and finding the place where your true heart resides. I was mesmerized by the descriptive creation of this amazing underwater kingdom. Allarick's patience and understanding while Erin finds her way is heart warming. Dangers await in the deep but together Allarick and Erin will find an answer.
