I read this book in 1991. I worked in a book store and somebody left a library copy of the book on a shelf in the poetry section. I read it before returning it to the library. And ended up buying a copy. It is the journal of a very thoughtful Swiss man who opted out of aggressive treatment for bladder cancer and tells the story of his struggle to live a full life in the time he has left, and his reflections on the life that he has lived.
One of the most amazing books I have ever read. The writer is facing a cancer diagnosis but choses to say no to all treatment since he feels that treatment in itself has too many downsides and that there is no real hope for recovery. This book makes you reevaluate life and death and this is certainly a book I intend to return to several times.
