The Anima Corps

Rate this book
The Anima Corps are supernatural, angelic shapeshifters with one mission—slay the demon.

When the two remaining Wolf Animas on Earth are summoned to Kore, the secret dimension that exists beneath the Pacific Ocean, it can only mean one thing. They are to become part of the Anima Corps, the guardians of the earth.

Ryder Everett, a former military ranger gone rogue, is a rebel and non-conformist. If he refuses to accept the role of captain, he’ll be put to trial or spend the rest of his life as a fugitive.

Aspen Lovetta, known only as ‘Hellfire’, exists for revenge. She blames her family’s slaughter on the Corps and becoming their sergeant practically guarantees her betrayal.

For both, the idea of the Anima Corps is as horrendous as the demons they fight. Until meeting each other changes everything, and they discover an unspoken bond. The kind that spans lifetimes. But that’s not the only truth they must face.

An evil darkness has escaped, and reports of a demon possession point to a Primordial demon hellbent on destruction.

It’s no longer a war on wolves. It’s a quest to save everyone and everything. And they can only do it together…

The Anima Corps is an action-packed paranormal science fiction fantasy where demon-hunting shapeshifters with lethal military training must protect the earth from immortal evil. Those who join the Corps do so at their own peril…

The Anima Corps by N.P. Conti is an absolute masterpiece that will leave you breathless from start to finish. This epic tale of supernatural beings and their fight against demonic forces is a true page-turner that I simply couldn’t put down.

Conti’s world-building is nothing short of extraordinary. The secret dimension of Kore, hidden beneath the Pacific Ocean, is vividly brought to life with intricate details and a rich mythology that feels both fresh and timeless. The concept of Animas as angelic shapeshifters adds a unique twist to the supernatural genre, making this world truly unforgettable.

The characters are the heart and soul of this novel. Ryder Everett, the reluctant captain with a rebellious streak, and Aspen “Hellfire” Lovetta, driven by vengeance, are complex, flawed, and utterly captivating. Their individual journeys and the unspoken bond that develops between them are masterfully crafted, adding depth and emotional resonance to the story.

The dynamic storyline keeps you on the edge of your seat, seamlessly blending action, intrigue, and personal drama. As Ryder and Aspen confront their pasts and face the looming threat of a Primordial demon, the stakes continually rise, making for an exhilarating read.

Conti’s storytelling prowess shines through in every page. The pacing is perfect, with moments of intense action balanced by quieter, character-driven scenes. The author’s ability to weave together multiple plot threads while maintaining clarity is truly impressive.

Perhaps the highest praise I can give is that I didn’t want this book to end. I found myself completely immersed in the world of Kore and invested in the fates of these complex characters. The Anima Corps is not just a story; it’s an experience that will stay with you long after you’ve turned the final page.

If you’re looking for a supernatural thriller that offers more than just surface-level excitement, The Anima Corps is a must-read. It’s a testament to the power of storytelling and a shining example of what the fantasy genre can achieve. Five stars don’t seem enough for this extraordinary novel.

Enthralling, intense, and brutal. I think I’ve found my new book series obsession!

Welcome to The Anima Corps, a group of supernatural angelic shapeshifters who serve as guardians of the earth. When rumours abound that a Primordial Demon is hellbent on destroying the human race, the Anima Corps are summoned to the secret dimension of Kore to prepare for war. Two new recruits are added to the team - Ryder Everett, a military ranger gone rogue, and Aspen Lovetta, aka Hellfire, whose reputation of being a ruthless killer precedes her. Hellfire is the quintessential morally grey character, in my opinion. On the surface she’s hostile, violent, and fuelled by revenge, causing conflict and distrust within the Anima Corps. Only Ryder can see past her harsh defences and discovers a softer side. As Hellfire’s heartbreaking past is revealed, it becomes clear the team needs her, whether they like it or not, or they risk losing the war. And the planet.

This story is beautifully plotted, paranoia-fuelled suspense. Conti’s world building talent is first-rate, with settings that can’t help but spring to life in the reader’s imagination. And the characters… equally electrifying. There’s no shortage of gorgeously choreographed action, unimaginably powerful superheroes, and brutally evil villains. But it’s not just a story of fighting and gore. There is love. The chemistry between Ryder and Hellfire is a scorching hot slow-burn with intense passion minus the explicit details. Fated mates with an unexpected connection.

The next instalment can’t come out fast enough! This is a must-read for science fiction and fantasy buffs!

From the very first page, Anima Corps swept me away on an extraordinary journey. The author masterfully builds a world so vivid and immersive that I found myself instantly transported into its heart—feeling the tension, the wonder, and the raw emotion as if I were living alongside the characters.

The writing is crisp, elegant, and deeply engaging, carrying just the right balance of action, description, and heart. Every chapter flows seamlessly into the next, making it nearly impossible to put down. I found myself saying “just one more page” until I realized hours had passed.

The characters are nothing short of phenomenal—richly developed, multi-dimensional, and brimming with authenticity. They leap off the page, each with their own voice, struggles, and triumphs, making them feel less like fictional creations and more like companions on the journey.

The story itself is captivating from start to finish—full of intrigue, emotion, and a sense of discovery that never lets up. It’s rare to find a debut novel this polished and compelling, but Anima CorpsThe Anima Corps delivers in every way. This is an outstanding first work from the author, and I’m certain it’s only the beginning of what promises to be a remarkable career.

If you’re looking for a book that will grip you, transport you, and leave you thinking about it long after the final page, Anima Corps is it. An absolutely unforgettable read.

This book needs to be turned into a full feature movie!!!

The Anima Corps is N.P. Conti's wildly impressive debut novel, packed to the brim with action adventure, slooowww burn romance, lush world-building, fated mates, shifters, found family, and a truly BADASS FMC.

Also... a morally grey FMC — which I LOVED.

Right off the bat, this story felt very WITCHER. These characters are epic demon-slaying masters of their craft and Conti brings the creatures they fight to life very vividly. All of the action scenes are cinematic, fun, gripping, and easy to stay engaged with.

Probably what I loved most, though, was the expansive cast of characters. This is one of those ensemble casts where everyone is fused together by that military found family vibe. Everyone matters, everyone is very well-drawn, everyone has impactful moments together and impactful moments with the mains (as opposed to the mains only having those moments with each other).

BUT THE MAINS.

Ryder Everett (MMC) is a whole vibe, all on his own, and then paired later with the totally feral Aspen (FMC) = explosive chemistry. Keep in mind, this is basically a 'no spice' novel and you honestly don't miss it! Their relationship to one another is fueled so much by who they are, their histories, their damage, their trauma... so when they do come together, the smallest of touches feels huge.

Loved this book. Loved these characters. Can't wait for the next book. And I do believe this will be a series, because cliffhanger!

Thank you to N.P. Conti for the gifted copy in exchange for my honest review. 📖
And happy release day!

The Anima Corps. by NP Conti is a high-octane supernatural fantasy blending explosive action, emotional depth, and a world on the brink. Elite military units, known as anima, wield animal-linked powers to battle demonic forces threatening humanity. At the center is Ryder, a stoic captain leading a team of powerful warriors. Conti expertly balances fast-paced combat with rich character development, especially through Ryder’s complex bond with Aspen, a ruthless fellow anima. As a primordial demon emerges, the stakes soar, but it’s the emotional connections that ground the chaos. A thrilling debut that begs for a cinematic adaptation and promises more from an exciting new voice in the genre.

Alright, I started this book all the way in January, but after that I got distracted with other reading material. Meaning that I had forgotten the story and was able to read something else instead. That doesn't say that this story was bad, but it didn't pull me in completely. Which can mean that this story wasn't for me.

The story, after I picked it up, had a good passing. And the foreshadowing is there, but it isn't in my opinion not subtle.

Still, I will recommend this book to people who love this type of story.

I received an ARC through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

I just finished The Anima Corps by N.P. Conti and had such a great time with it! Ryder and Aspen are such an unlikely duo, and watching their clashing personalities slowly shift into something deeper kept me turning the pages. The action scenes are exciting, but it’s the characters that really shine—they feel real, layered, and easy to care about. The story moves fast, but still finds space for humor and heart. By the end, I didn’t want it to be over. A fantastic debut, and I’m already looking forward to what Conti writes next!

Action-packed sci-fi/fantasy that is unput-downable!

Incredible debut! N.P. Conti’s world building is next level. Out of this world, angelic shapeshifters and demons, next level.

Cinematic, brutal, and emotional, The Anima Corps is a gripping read from start to finish. Could not stop myself from picking out the cast for this to be made into a movie. Alan Ritchson as Ryder. There; I said it. So mote it be.

Perfect for fans of found family, fierce FMC and MMC, big casts, incredible world, and MILITARY action.

Can’t wait to read what’s next from N.P. Conti!

The book is unique and filled with non-stop action. If you love military style action with paranormal/fantasy element (think Silver Elite), I think you'll love this book. I enjoyed the complexity of the relationships between the team and how the author upped the stakes at every turn. Because I can't turn off my writer's brain, I would have loved a bit more tightening of the narrative structure, but overall, it was a minor item in an intriguing story that will knock your socks off.
