Stopping a murderer is the only way out of danger.
The last thing Texas Ranger Bridger Cole expects while patrolling a tornado-devastated town is to fight off an armed killer. But after unearthing a murdered woman in the debris, search and rescue volunteer Sophie Wilder has a target on her back—and someone will do anything to silence her. When their investigation leads to a local drug ring, she must depend on Bridger to keep her safe long enough to uncover the truth. With the death toll rising and a killer hot on their trail, they must stop this deadly syndicate before their time runs out.
Unsure in what country this author did tornado recovery research, but absolutely not in Tornado Alley. I’ve actually been through an EF4 by my work and the recovery was run out of our parking lot, so I know firsthand that this scenario is absolutely impossible. That wasn’t the only thing that ruined the story for me, though, because there was plenty else wrong.
-a 3-mile track for an EF4 is highly unlikely. -December isn’t peak season but there are tornadoes in the Dallas area in December every few years, more commonly than winter weather. -in Dallas that small of a storm track would absolutely be swarming with people at all times for recovery efforts…no desertion, no chance for repeated bad guys to slip through the lines and start shooting -law enforcement immediately sets up a perimeter and only authorized personnel are let in; local police and fire hold that perimeter until the National Guard arrives, usually a few hours after the storm -debris isn’t piled up to be moved twice. It’s moved off potential survivors but otherwise left alone until dumptrucks roll in.
In addition: To bring along civilians on active investigations is highly unlikely and could cause the case to be lost in court (evidence chain of custody) Not just once but three times, Glock handguns fire when dropped. Glocks have a two stage trigger to prevent this. Bad guys come out of nowhere without any way of knowing where they are or what car they are driving. This is never addressed but there’s never any evidence of trackers. Sophie is supposedly super poor but does SAR work with a $2-3,000 dog? SAR volunteer work requires a good job with great time of benefits. Then we also have instalove and characters falling “in love” after a few days of running for their lives.
I absolutely loved this book! When I read fiction, I dont expect all details to be perfectly accurate. It matters not to me if legal protocol was correct or not with the characters. It's fiction. The story was great & I enjoyed every bit of it. Well done!
This book was non-stop action with amazing twists. Sophie and Bridger trying to figure out who's after them and then trying to catch them, will having you turning pages to see what happens next.
