Matt McCready had nothing once; now, he has it all. Money. Fame. The big house. A fancy car. His boys. The band.
Still, one thing was missing. Something he never hoped to find. Until an intriguing girl with hazel-green eyes brought a pizza to his door.
He didn’t know it then, the first time he met Gina, she was only four. His childhood friend’s little sister, but she wasn’t little anymore.
And now that he'd found her, he had to go after her, even if he lost a friend. It was far too late when he realized he could lose a lot more than that.
Run, little rabbit, run. I will catch you.
Rhythm Man, book 7 in the Red Door series, contains subject matter that may be sensitive or triggering to some readers and is intended for mature audiences. While you don't need to read the previous books in the series, as this is a standalone novel featuring a unique romance, it is highly recommended. Red Door is a series of interconnected standalone novels. All of the main characters reappear, and some storylines entwine throughout each book. For the best experience, the series should be read in order.
Dyan Layne is a nurse boss by day and the writer of edgy sensual tales by night—and on weekends. She's never without her Kindle, and can usually be found tapping away at her keyboard with a hot latte and a cold Dasani Lime--and sometimes champagne. She can't sing a note, but often answers in song because isn't there a song for just about everything? Born and raised a Chicago girl, she currently lives in Tampa, Florida, and is the mother of four handsome sons and a beautiful daughter, who are all grown up now, but can still make her crazy--and she loves it that way! Because normal is just so boring.
I say it everything I read another book in the Red Door Series it could never be a good as the last and every time Dyan proves me wrong !!! This series is near and dear to my heart as most people know and I am beyond in love with with this book. Matt is just so hot and him and Gina could make a nun hot in church. The spice is 🔥 and ohhhh so good. Their story is to die for and so perfectly played and wrote. You flabbergast me every release Dyan and you know I am a Bo girl but oh I teetered with this Matt!!!!

Dyan Layne's Red Door Series is always a wild ride that I want to take. I've been obessed with this world and these delicious, free-spirited characters, all smoldering in their own unique ways and impossible to resist from the beginning. I love the long history they share and their warm, wisecracking banter is off the charts. Rythym Man is book seven in this series with some of my favorite catnip tropes- rockstar, age gap, younger sister of an old friend, with a 'holy hotness' steam level that could curl toes and melt hearts, along with e-readers. And that cover?? Wow!
Guitarist Matt McCready has been feeling dissatisfied, craving something new and different for a while. Yes, he loves his friends like family but as one of the last single guys standing, he wants that forever connection with someone who will love him for who he is deep down, not for his money or fame. After a random meeting on his doorstep, a beautiful pizza delivery girl has grabbed his full attention. She has no idea what she's unleashed in him, but he has a plan. What a surprise when Matt finds out who 'pizza girl' really is.
I got the biggest kick out of Matt with his instantly intense attraction and determination to do whatever it takes for a chance to make Gina his own, even if she's playing hard to get. That's just the spark that lights his fire and makes him want to hunt her down even more. No one has ever played the long game with him, but Matt is more than willing to try...for her.
I really enjoyed getting to know Matt as the shining star in his own story and Gina is just what the wolf in him needed. A re-read of Bo's story for more recon is on my list, knowing what I know about Matt now. Sassy, fiercely independent Gina Rossi, a night-shift nurse, stuck helping out in the family business when she can, resisted Matt as long as she could, knowing they would never accept him. This loyal bad boy is definitely not Italian husband material, but did she care? Read Rythym Man to find out how perfectly matched this beautiful pair were for each other in the end. To say they vibed was a huge understatement- I wasn't kidding when I said holy hotness! Behind the RED Door and outside it's walls, they explored love in all its smexy forms, defying the challenges thrown in their path.
Of course reconnecting with some of my all time favorite characters again was amazing, but the extremely lovable Matt and Gina, without excess drama, was the best part of this one for me. I wanted more and wasn't ready to let them go quite yet, so here's hoping the upcoming books give me all the details of their future life together from where we left off here in Rythym Man. Matt's best bud and band brother's book is next in line and I can't wait to read it. If anyone needs his own romance, it's this deserving guy. Back to the Red Door is always where I want to be and waiting is going to be...hard!
*This book is one part of a connected series which is best enjoyed in order. Threads from previous books continue as the series progresses. It's bingeworthy- dive in!*
*I was given an early copy to read and review. These are my honest and freely given thoughts of Rythym Man.
Friendships and family are all potentially at stake when Venery's rhythm guitarist falls for his friend's little sister and possibly losing it all is worth the risk in Dyan Layne's Rhythm Man!
When an instant attraction built into something more no one was as surprised as Matt McCready. Matt fell hard and completely and there was no hesitation in his feelings or his relentless pursuit of Gina once she was on his radar. Yet despite Matt's past of being uncommitted and a bit of a libertine he was more on top of his feelings than he was given credit for. When he found his person in Gina he was no longer caught up in distractions and meaningless interactions and his focus on Gina was absolute and intense.
Pediatric nurse Gina was no pushover nor was she unrealistic where Matt's initial interest in her was concerned, Matt had to work to and prove that he was serious in his interest in Gina. Gina was a wonderful advocate for herself in difficult circumstances and her maturity was evident from the start. Her focus and need for clarity before moving forward showed her to be not blinded by love or a false sense of duty to others.
This couple's chemistry was off the charts but more so their emotional bond and friendship created a solid foundation to build a relationship on. Their priorities were straight and their mutual caring for each other gave readers a sense of the depth of their feelings for each other. This couple felt very grounded in their relationship so when outside interference came into play in this story they were able to face it logically rather than a huge rift forming between them.
As to be expected from Dyan Layne nothing is out of bounds in love and this book was no exception. Complicated group interactions and emotional connections created interesting dynamics that drove this story in many different directions all ultimately converging and making sense. Love, drama, kinks and all the things Dyan Layne's readers anticipate when reading this author were in abundance in this story. The secondary cast provided both significant and fun interactions adding nice layers to this work. Dyan Layne's Rhythm Man is the perfect addition to the popular Red Door series!
*I was given an advanced copy. All opinions expressed are my own.* *While part of a series this book can be read as a stand alone, but for an overall enhanced reading experience reading the previous books in this series is suggested.*
Another fantastic addition to the Red Door series! As usual I could not have predicted the path this book took us down. Every story is unique and Matt's story is no different! If you haven't tried the Red Door series you're seriously missing out!
ARC kindly provided in exchange for an honest review
Returning to the Red Door series ALWAYS feels like coming home, and reading Matt & Gina was no exception. Dyan Layne gave me all that sensual vibe I'd enjoyed so much since the first book, combined with the best chosen family I've ever read about and amazing characters. Plus, I got to relive the pain these characters have been experiencing since The Other Brother, experience moments I loved from new perspectives, and fall madly in love with a new love story.
I have to say, Matt wasn't a character I was particularly excited to read about, BUT his story captivated me from the prologue, and I fell in love with him just as much as with the previous male characters! I loved his flirty, slightly rough and coky personality, and that sweet and adorable side he always shows when he's with the people he loves. I also liked that Dyan constantly showed me how important Matt's grandmother was in his life and how tragic his family's past was. Another thing I LOVED about this character was reading about the friendship, unconditional love, and support he has with the guys from Venery and with the Byrne cousins and their wives.
Gina stole my heart immediately! The situation her family is going through broke my heart at times and made me angry at others, but I loved reading about how beautiful and unconditional her love for Teo, Luca, Nick, and Sara, is and how they all encourage her to follow her feelings for Matt. One of the things I loved most about Gina was reading about her being so brave whenever her mom, Tony, or anyone else tried to control her life. It was also really funny how she put the brakes on Matt's flirting at first.
Gina & Matt have an intense love story with the perfect balance of sweetness and sensuality, and a touch of forbidden love because she's the younger sister of one of his best friends from high school, which added a good dose of drama. But what I loved most was reading about Matt falling head over heels for Gina, fighting to show her how much he loves her, and supporting her unconditionally when things get tough with her family. I also really enjoyed reading about Gina fitting in with the Venery guys, understanding the situation between Matt & Kit, and supporting them in finding their way back together.
I also have to say that I NEED Dyan Layne to give me a book for these characters: Teo broke my heart, made me hate his parents and Tony, and desperately want to read the happy ending his character so deserves. I was also surprised to read about Luca & Kev and what they both hope for in life, so I'm crossing my fingers to read about them too.
This rockstar romance is pure fire- raw, intoxicating and emotionally unrelenting. Rhythm Man masterfully blends an erotic edge, emotional depth, and powerful family dynamic into an unforgettable story. Perfectly written by Dyan Layne to keep you utterly and completely consumed with these characters and their highly engrossing story.
From the opening chapters, this story pulls you into a world of access, temptation and desire but what I found made this story breathtaking is the emotional weight beneath all the heat.
I have been waiting for Matt McCready‘s story and it was absolutely worth the wait!!!!
This man is the very definition of a magnetic, seductive, rock god!! You can’t help but fall for this charismatic, determined and dirty rockstar😉 His relationship with his band mates and friends is heartfelt and sometimes very sexy. It was so exhilarating and heartwarming having all the interesting and captivating characters we so loved from the Red Door series all together again🫠
Matts world is indulgent and chaotic, yet beneath the swagger, lies a man capable of intensity, loyalty, and unexpected depth. Gina has been hurt by love. She’s emotionally guarded and yearning for something deeper. She wants to feel accepted, especially by her mother. Her struggle for validation adds a raw heartbreaking layer to her journey, making her growth feel deeply personal and real. Family plays a powerful role in this story, both blood or family found. Gina‘s close bond with the younger Rossi brothers is a steady source of strength and protection, a reminder of unconditional love.-made even more poignant by the shadow of Tony’s betrayal that fractured their family. That emotional fracture adds tension, pain and complexity that elevates the entire story. The moment Matt meets Gina for the first time (so he thought) he’s drawn to her and can’t forget her. Now let’s talk chemistry… it is addictive, it crackles and it’s ELECTRIC. The tension relentless, and the passion burns on every page. Matt and Gina’s romance is unapologetically spicy!!! What makes this romance truly unforgettable is how it balances sensuality with vulnerability, healing, and hard earned trust.
I found Matt and Gina’s story to be an emotional experience that lingered long after the final page. It left me feeling wrecked in the best way
If you love escaping into edgy, rockstar romances with erotic atmosphere, emotional angst, family drama, and powerful character growth, this book is an ABSOLUTE MUST read.

Returning to the Red Door was such a pleasure, as always! And getting to know the last 3 members of Venery (Matt, Kit and Sloan) a bit - a lot!- better was excellent!
Oveall, Matt and Gina's story is a lot more peaceful and less angsty that some of the previous books in the series, which was a lovely change of pace, especially if you come straight from Son of a Preacher Man. Although reading the previous 6 books isn't necessary, I'd definitely recommend (re-)reading Drummer Boy before jumping into Rythmn Man to appreciate the events more fully.
I loved the progression of the love story between Matt and Gina. Although a lot of it seems to happen separately, it's very relatable and real.
I like Gina's backbone and fire, and the way she stands up for herself. That damsel doesn't need a knight, she'll save herself, thank you very much. But she won't say no to the knight's -or rock star's- arms afterwards. What I really really liked though, is that she's strong and fiery but she's not mean or nasty in the way so many female lead characters are caricatured in books!
We had got to meet and appreciate Matt before so, in a way, he was a known entity but Rythm Man brings him depths, character and personality. He's wild and unapologetic but also caring, soft and considerate. And I love him with Gina and with his best friend Kit.
As usual, Dyan laid hints and snippets in preparation for future books and oh my! am I looking forward to both Kit and Sloan's books!!
Summary Rating 4⭐ Spice 3.5 - 4 ❤️ * Found family vs Traditional family * Rock star * Steam and heat!! * He falls first * Primal play/ chasing
I always look forward to heading back to the Red Door series by Dyan Layne and this visit definitely didn't disappoint.
Matt McCready is rock band Venery's rhythm man. He has it all: fame, money, and all that comes with being a rock star, but something is missing. When Gina Rossi delivers his pizza, Matt thinks that he's found his missing piece. Turns out Gina is Matt's childhood friend's little sister, but that's not going to stand in his way. He's going to have Gina even if it means losing a friend.
A couple of things to know before diving into this book: 1) This could be read as a standalone novel, but it is the seventh book in the Red Door series and it will make more sense (and you'll avoid major spoilers) if you read them all in order; and 2) The Red Door is a s3x positivity club. No judgement there, so you must have a very open mind for this series. The Venery boys and the Byrne cousins aren't just friends, they're family, and this family shares everything. And I do mean Every. Thing. 😉
Now, if you're good with all that, or if you've been waiting for Matt's story like me, you're in for a treat. Matt is a self-proclaimed wolf, a hunter, and when he sets his sights on his prey, he's not giving up until he catches her. Gina may not know what she's getting herself into at first, but she's quick to realize it and she's like "sign me up!" These two were burning up my Kindle (with a little help from Matt's friends), but they also had some drama to deal with especially from Gina's big Italian family.
There are only two more books left in this series. I can't wait for more, but at the same time, I know that I'll hate to see it end.
The 𝚁𝙴𝙳 𝙳𝙾𝙾𝚁 𝚂𝙴𝚁𝙸𝙴𝚂 feels like catching up with good friends at this point for me. I love this group of open-minded, s€xually and socially open and artistic individuals. I love the band and the family and friends they work with so much. It’s always an er0tic type of spicy story and also highly emotional. Matt and Gina’s story is no different in that sense, although the past couple of books have had an intensity and trauma that this book doesn’t. I leaned into it and loved this spicy, romantic story that has a lighter tone than the previous books. It’s full of growth, trust and a lot of heart. Gina is such a strong woman, I love her fiery attitude and her wonderful relationship’s with her brother’s. I love the steadiness of Matt and his quiet confidence. *I do recommend reading 𝙳𝚁𝚄𝙼𝙼𝙴𝚁 𝙱𝙾𝚈 at least before this book. It happens in a crossover timeline and events are closely related. (I recommend the whole series, but I understand if you love the sound of this book, but don’t have time for the whole series right now… that’s my advice.)* The authors storytelling style is generally third person POV which I have no issue with, I think it gives the author a style that is well suited to this series especially. I completely enjoyed this spicy romance and the fire between Gina and Matt. The secondary characters always play a big part which I love. There’s a bit of fracture in Matt’s friendship with Kit and by the end of this book there is a discussion between the two about it, which leaves me feeling excited about Kit’s story. There’s a lot of mystery there. Sloane is another mysterious and s€xy man who I can’t wait to get to know, but I realize after their story’s the series will be complete and that is so bittersweet.
This was such an amazing story and the perfect addition to this incredible Red Door series by Dyan Layne.
This is Matt McCready's story the boy who once had nothing and now he has everything he once wish for, except something is still missing in his wild rockstar life until he crosses paths with an a girl that has hazel-green eyes and something that calls to him in a way he has never experience before .
Gina is trying to find her own path in life, she wants independency from her overbearing Italian family and all their believes, specially her mothers who wants her to be part of the family business like her brothers but Gina is working in the medical field, something that her mother disapproves. With very little time in her hands her life revolves around her job and helping the family's restaurant in her spare, love is not in her plans until she catches the eyes of Matt, the famous band member of Venery.
Matt along with all the band members of Venery have a unique life style that until he mets Gina suited him very well, but with Gina he discovers a true connection that makes his life full and with that he knows that Gina is worth the wait and all the courting. I just loved this new side of Matt.
With all the books in this series you know we are always going to get the angst, the chase and the right amount of spice which I always look forward in every book by Dyan Layne.
WOW. We meet another of the Venery men and Matt McCready is everything I hoped for, he has come from a hard life to the fame of a rockstar and has found his new family among his band brothers. Quiet and steady he lives his life his way and is unapologetic about his lifestyle choices. Then, Pizza Girl arrives on his front porch and his world takes a 360 turn. Gina is strong and focused on both her family and her chosen career path. She has removed herself from a relationship she was expected to stay in and her parents are not particularly supportive of her choices but she is determined to live life her way. The pull between these two is unstoppable the only obstacle, Matt grew up with her brothers, the eldest of whom knows about Matt's lifestyle and is determined this is never going to fly. I love how Gina is drawn into the Venery Family, she isn't starstruck but takes everything in her stride and in her own time. Nothing about Matt and Gina is rushed Matt knows this girl is worth the wait and Gina has her own issues to overcome before she can finally settle into the man that is both The Rock Star and her safe place. There is just enough spice to keep you warm while the story takes us further into the lives of the other Venery men and having already met Bo and Taylor we learn more about Sloan and Kit. Dyan has a knack of drawing you into the lives of her characters, you will fall in love over and over and never want to leave the Red Door world. It isn't necessary to read the previous books in the series but I would suggest Drummer Boy will give you a little more insight to our boys. That said this whole series is beyond words fantastic and I am already mourning the inevitable moment Dyan stamps THE END on it.

Oh how I love being back in the Red Door world! I was so ready for Pizza Girl and her Wolf. As usual, their story had the right amount of tension and chase, lust and spice but overall it’s about love. The insta love trope can be hard for me but the way Dyan wrote Gina and Matt it works well because of who Matt and Gina are as people, where they are in their lives and what they are ready for. This is where Dyan’s writing gets me. The basis of all her books are love, trust and devotion. The couples, the found family and even the blood families. Ties that bind in the best way. I get such a beautiful feeling when I read her books because the love she expresses through her characters I truly feel in my heart. She slays the spice. She never fails to make me blush and at the heart of the spice is freedom, self expression, confidence to love freely and trust deeply. It’s so organic to Gina and Matt and all of the Red Door characters that it’s truly a joy to read such an open world. The found family aspect is one of my favorite parts to these books and Gina and Matt fit perfectly. I truly loved every single word.
The Venery Boys once again delivered an emotional story. Matt McCready gave us his performance of a lifetime. His grit, his determination, and a bit of vulnerability were on full display.
Matt has finally made it. Humble beginnings to fame and fortune. He has it all. All except for his pizza girl, Gina Rossi. She became his food for his weary soul. And Matt awakened something Gina thought long gone, a desire for love, for self happiness.
They had some obstacles to overcome of course. Her family didn’t exactly have open arms. Gina was a bit shy of just how welcoming his family was. But their vulnerabilities brought them together. Both were a bit broken, but together they healed the wounds, made a HEA possible. They just needed a rhythm to the song they were writing as one.
Layne opened yet another chapter in The Red Door Series for us. This world allows us to see what acceptance, trust, and family are all about. I’m ready for the next gig!
Rhythm Man is book seven in The Red Door Series. It is a contemporary, rockstar, age-gap romance containing primal play and boasting s@x positivity. The story is told in third person POV.
Let me start by saying I've been obsessed with this series since its beginning. It is one of my favorite series ever and this book definitely cements that. I love the close knit family and each amazing journey to love and happiness.
Matt and Gina's story is incredible. I adored them both. I loved the chemistry and heat between these two. I loved the way their relationship developed and how they navigated the hurdles that were in the way of their HEA.
I absolutely loved this story. The writing, pace, flow, plot, and characters were all perfection, as were the character development, relationship development, storyline, storytelling, and world building. If you are looking for a terrific read then I'd definitely recommend this book and the series.
This book felt like slipping back into a world I’ve come to really love. The Red Door series has a way of making you feel connected not just to the stories, but to the people inside them and Rhythm Man is no exception. Matt is a character shaped by music, memory, and everything he carries quietly with him. Watching him open up especially with Gina felt honest and real, built in moments that didn’t rush but instead lingered. Matt and Gina’s connection grows with patience and understanding, rooted in who they are and where they’ve been. There’s chemistry, yes, but there’s also tenderness and healing, which made their story feel grounded and meaningful. As part of the Red Door Series, this book adds another layer of heart to a world I’ve come to love. A quiet, emotional read that stayed with me. 🎶🤍
Rhythm Man: An Age-Gap Rockstar Romance (Red Door Book 7) by Dyan Layne is a captivating romance between Gina Bobina, the younger sister of a neighborhood friend, and Matt McCready, the Venery’s guitarist before he rose to fame. They reunite when Gina delivers a pizza to Matt’s house while helping her family. Matt feels an instant attraction to Gina, but she initially resists. However, with a hot rockstar pursuing her, she finally agrees to go out with him. As they spend more time together, their bond deepens. The story features spicy scenes that will make your Kindle not just smoke but burst into flames. Dyan Layne’s Rhythm Man: An Age-Gap Rockstar Romance (Red Door Book 7) is a rockstar love story that left me saying “wow.” This book is a remarkable and fantastic rockstar love story.
Matt McCready has experience the lows and highs of life. From being poor and chasing a dream to living the high life with his Venery bandmates. He has watched each of his brothers find love. He wants that as well. Enter our Pizza Girl, Gina. Gina Rossi grew up in the same neighborhood as the Venery boys, the Bryne cousins, and her older brother is a friend with the guys. When Gina delivers a pizza to Matt it is instant attraction. But Gina has hidden scars and walls that Matt will need to conquer. Let the chase begin.
The story is best read in order with the other Red Door Series books as the timeline does overlap with the previous books.
OMG! Rhythm Man was everything I new it would be and more! This is the 7th book in a inner connected standalone series. You don’t necessarily have to read in order but I would recommend that you do because some storylines run together. This is a age gap, rock star romance that will spice up your kindle!
Gina is the little sister to Matt’s childhood friend. When she ends up at his door with a delivery, not realizing who she was he then sets his sights on her. I loved Matt & Gina together! They complimented each other well. I loved his Intensity and if you’ve read Maelstrom (Brendan & Katie) then it might give you Maelstrom vibes like it did for me.
I love the Red Door series so so much and I was so happy when this hit my kindle. I highly recommend this book and the rest! It did not disappoint. I absolutely cannot wait for the next book!
I loved this! It's Matt & Gina's story & it was awesome! She's a nurse & helps out her family in their bakery & sometimes delivers pizza. When Matt sees her, he's instantly attracted to her & she's very aware of his reputation. They've all known each other for a long time; he's been tired of his playboy lifestyle for a while & is ready to settle down. She makes him work hard to get her & I loved it; but some members of her family are not happy about it. I loved the story & the spice was fantastic! They all have an awesome group dynamic & are always there for each other. Highly recommend this series & author!

Favorite Quote/scene: “The wolf is a hunter, the rabbit its prey… I will catch you.” “And what happens then?” “I get to keep you.”
Over all thoughts on book and/or author: I'm so sad Matt's book is finished. I wanted more of him. It felt like his time line was rushed and we didn't get to experience the highs and lows. I would have loved to see what happened when he showed up to the family dinner. This one kind of missed the mark for me this time.
Just wait until you hit chapters 2 and 24. I’m pretty sure I melted my Kindle screen while reading Rhythm Man (Red Door Series #7). I absolutely love this series of spicy, interconnected standalones. Each book packs a lot of heart and heat.
I highly recommend reading the Red Door series in order to fully appreciate the characters’ complex backstories. You won’t feel lost if you start with this one, but reading the series in order really gives you the full Red Door experience, and it’s so worth it!
I’m excited for Kit’s story, The Bassline (Red Door Series #8).
Love Matt's story. All the Venery men are finding their way and their happily ever after. There are lots of smexy and smoldering scenes between several of the band mates, they are all family and have a deep inclusive love for each other. Matt meets Gina and is instantly lost and finds hi self in love!! There is love of family, friendship, romance, angst, and Venery !! Keep the tissues handy. If this is your fist book in this series, you may not understand the whole background stries of the venery band members. Go get the first book of the Red door series.
Another awesome read from this fabulous series full of sexy kinky men 😍.
Rhythm Man is book 7 in Author Dylan Layne’s Red Door Series and the storyline continues, its unique and engaging, didn’t want to let the book out of my hands.
It was Matt’s turn to find his significant other, and he was more than ready when Gina arrived on his doorstep delivering pizza. Maybe not a steamy as some of the other books there are still some unforgettable moments and I loved seeing Matt like this.
Rhythm Man is the long awaited story for Matt. I love these characters, the band, the story of found family and how they're all a little bit broken.
This story for Matt and Gina felt like a fresh flower blooming. Gina's family woes are clearly laid out on the page, and her relationship with her siblings is really sweet. Matt falls hard and fast for Gina, and I love that!
The timeline jumps sometimes, which is why this isn't 5 stars. I got confused several times about what month we were in or how much time had passed.
Am I obsessed with this series…yes, do they keep getting better…yes, do I never want it to end…also yes!
Oh Matt you dog you 😉 IYKYK. Gina truly was his perfect match and this man loved her hard and she did him, this family is everything and more.
This book like all the ones before it was absolutely phenomenal, Dyan is and will always be one of my favorite authors. Her writing style and ability to tell a story is unmatched. One click every single time!
