Whoa, that ending was TOTUREEEE!!!

It left me feeling like this...

description

I enjoyed REBELLION more then I did EXTRACTION. Though it did have it's flaws and slow parts, but nevertheless, it was a fantastic addition to the EXTRACTION series!!

That ending left me grasping for the final Showdown...

4 Stars

REBELLION was an intensely thrilling, adventure-filled dystopia, that kept me engaged and on my toes until the very last page! It was a wonderful follow up to EXTRACTION, that had terrifying surprises, and a hell of a cliffhanger that will have me on the edge of my seat in anticipation until book three is in my needy little hands!!!

I've been so excited to start REBELLION since reading EXTRACTION last year and REALLY enjoying it, a lot! And REBELLION did not disappoint either. I mean, I did have minor issues with it, which in turn knocked a star off my rating, but nothing too serious to make me not want to continue reading and finishing this series. And I loved the direction that the plot took. I have to admit that I did not see that ending coming. I can't say what of course, ;) but I was literally shocked along side Clem when the truth was finally revealed. And it's always a fun ride when you can be utterly shocked and stunned that you have your mouth hanging open in shock. And that's exactly how Stephanie Diaz left me feeling with that EPIC twist ending!!

But, like I said, I did have minor issues with it. Manly it was just that it felt too slowed pace for my taste. It felt like everything was happening in slow motion, and I just knew something was coming, but it was just taking too long for it to get there. But it wasn't bad enough to make me want to DNFed.

Besides that I can't really think of any other negative issues I had with REBELLION. The characters were far more developed in this second book. We got to meet new characters and of course in any good dystopia, lose some too. But the characters had their stages of development that I really enjoyed. They went through the motions of their struggles and hardships, and had to learn how to work through them. But eventually they were able to overcome them and slow build themselves back up to the strong-determined rebellion that sparked the revolution, and was driven by the rage and desire to end this terrifying world that has brought so much pain and suffering to it's people. They were ready to do anything to see the people who tortured and enslaved them, imprisoned, or better yet, dead...

THE PLOT

THE UPRISING HAS BEGUN...

Clementine has fought and defeated The Commander and his army of mindless soldiers once, and she's determined to defeat him again and end the senseless suffering to the slaves being used and abused under his rule.

Clementine and the love of her life Logan, have teamed up with the rebels and are now taking refuge in a secret facility, lying low until they have enough Intel and numbers to strike the The Commander hard, hard enough to wound and damage whatever insane plan he has in the works. Because if it's anything like the last plan her and Beechy, the leader of the rebellion stopped, then it could mean the end, for everyone...

But Clementine didn't go through hell and back just to allow The Commander and his solders to win and kill off the ones he doesn't need anymore. No, she is prepared to do whatever necessary to defeat him once and for all, even if it means she has to go back to the very place it all started, the work camps, AKA,the death camps...

Amidst all the danger and death that The Commander has planned, Clementine goes undercover as a spy in the work camps, trying to blend in and get the upper hand for the rebels. All while a few of the other rebels do the same; wrecking havoc whenever and wherever they can, trying to add enough chaos and drama to The Commander and his minions insanity. But The Commander wants Clementine extremely bad, and he has everyone on high alert to be on the look out for her hiding amidst the work camps somewhere. And that just makes her job that much harder, until she uncovers the truth behind The Commanders real plans, and that they're even more sinister then she ever thought...

Will Clementine and her group of rebels be able to infiltrate The Commanders organization? Will they be able to uncover all the secrets, plots, and help the ones under the mindless drug that has most people in a compelled state? Will they be able to gain the upper hand and stop all The Commanders vicious plans before it's too late?? But most important, will they be prepared for the coming doom that is destine to come no matter the outcome with The Commander?? You'll have to read and find out for yourselves....;)

Overall, REBELLION was a great second installment that did not disappoint. I've thoroughly enjoyed this series so far, and I'm highly looking forward to finding out the outcome of this epic battle on all sides. Because that ending was absolute TORTURE!!!! I definitely recommend the REBELLION series to fans of dystopia, Sci-f, action and adventure.Either way, it's definitely worth a fair shot.

I read Extraction last year and while I wasn't completely in love with the book because it had a plot line that is so redundant in YA, I was impressed by Stephanie Diaz' writing and I knew that she was one of those authors who would undoubtedly improve with time. So, I picked up Rebellion with a lot of excitement, and dang, was this book great!

From the moment I opened my copy of Rebellion, I was hooked. This is a book that does not suffer from any kind of second book syndrome. It was intense, action-packed and had twists that had my eyes widening. It was impossible for me to stop flipping the pages because of how addicting this book was. With Rebellion, Stephanie Diaz has moved away from the Divergent similarities and has gone more into the sci-fi teritory and it was absolutely brilliant. I loved how the world building expanded in this book. Stephanie Diaz had some great ideas involving the moon, a poison and new alien race, that will form a big part of the next book. Also, we learn more about the twisted and truly psychotic leader, Charlie, who basically twisted my guts multiple times throughout the book. It actually pained me that I was unable to jump into the story and push this crazy guy off of a cliff. The death toll in Rebellion was high and it had me so nervous for these characters who I grew to love in this book.

I mentioned in my review of the first book that I was unimpressed by Clementine's character, but all that changed here. I actually grew to really love her and connecting with her emotionally was much easier this time around. The author puts Clem through some seriously high obstacles and it pained me to see her suffer so much, especially with her PTSD, but these obstacles were also important to help her grow as an individual and to find her strengths. By the end of the book, Clem was a completely different character than we met in Extraction and I couldn't be prouder of her. We also get to see more of Logan in Rebellion and I'm really growing to like him as well. He is a complete sweetheart and I love how devoted he is to Clem. I'm not going to lie though I do wish there was more romance in this series because if you all know me, you know how much of a sucker I am when it comes to romance. Even if the romances is mostly in the background, I loved the relationship that Logan and Clem had. It was one based on respect. As for the secondary characters, I trust absolutely NO ONE! I don't know what to think of them because Stephanie Diaz makes it so hard to trust them with her twists and turns. Also, it should be illegal to end the book with such a killer ending! Nevertheless, it's definitely gotten me excited for the final book in the trilogy! (Please don't let anything happen to these babies!)

Rebellion was an astounding second book in a series. If you're into high-intensity, action-packed YA science fiction books with characters that grow throughout, definitely check out the Extraction series.

I want to thank St. Martin's Griffin for providing me with a copy of this book to read and give an honest review. Receiving this book for free has in no way altered my opinion or review.

If you haven't read the first book in this series, STOP HERE. I cannot promise there will not be spoilers from the first book. As a matter of fact, I can pretty much guarantee there will be.

This book picks up right where the last book left off. Clementine is back from her trip, where Oliver flew into the moon to destroy the machine put there by the enemy. Clementine and her band of misfits have taken to a compound on the surface, where they hide and plan their attack on Commander Charlie.

Of course, as with any good plan, there's always a downside. And this comes in the form of confronting your enemy and possibly never coming out alive. Clementine knows this is a real possibility.

I will say that the first book in this series was just ok for me. It didn't hold my interest as much as I would have liked. The concepts were interesting, but I had felt like there was too much of other books in them (which I mention in my review). Same went with this book, I could see similarities for sure. I wanted it to go a different route than I was expecting, but it didn't really do that for me.

But every dystopian must have it's rebellion and Diaz managed to pull that off quite nicely. This book certainly was faster paced than the first. There was more action and intrigue that kept me wanting to get to the end to see where Clementine would end up.

And there's even a twist, a wrench if you will, thrown into the plot. One that actually pulls Commander Charlie more onto their side then they would like. I can't get into what it is, because I'll spoil things, but let's just say I can see where the enemies might join forces a bit in the next book to try and save their people.

Clementine is plagued by what has happened to her in the very recent past in this book. It makes her hesitate in situations where she should not, and do things in situations that might cause others harm. She has a hard time separating herself from the trauma and it's a picture that is clearly painted to the reader. At the same time, she chooses to hide what's going on from her friends, rather than seek the help she needs to move past it. I felt badly for her, but I also wanted her to find the light somewhere and it never really happened. Her relationship with Logan becomes especially pressed for it, and it doesn't help that she keeps secrets from him because he feels the tension it is causing.

There are a ton of supporting characters in this book, each with their own unique personality. It was nice to watch the interactions between them as their relationships grew stronger the more time they all spent together.

I will say I would have liked to see more showing in this book as opposed to telling. Much of the time Clementine focuses on telling us what is going on around her rather than us seeing it though her interactions with the other characters and the world around her. At times this pulled me out of the story and I had to put the book down to take a breather.

Overall this was a fairly enjoyable read. There's definitely a cliff hanger ending here, so I want to see what happens int he next book. I can only imagine that the opening with be a big bang, because it can't be anything but.

So I was a HUGE fan of the first book in this series, “Extraction”, because for me it had everything you want from a YA Dystopian tale but managed to avoid so many of the cliches. It was just a thoroughly enjoyable read with some great characters and an intriguing and wonderfully addictive plot.

With “Rebellion” Ms Diaz has upped the ante quite substantially – after the adrenalin rush of battle at the end of Book One we find Clem and Logan hiding on the surface and preparing for the bigger battles to come…whilst in the core Commander Charlie has begun to put into action a truly horrific plan..

There is plenty of action to be had here, some extension of the world building, some terrific character development that builds up the tension nicely and keeps you right in the heart of things..a few little twists and turns to keep you on your toes and a beautifully evil villain in Commander Charlie who I’m actually rather fond of. He is just so addictively bad, but you get the impression that he truly believes everything he does is for the best. Even when what he does is mind control and blowing stuff up. But I mean you can’t beat a bit of blowing stuff up really can you? Even the good guys are not adverse to a little of that…

The story fairly races along, not a lot of time to draw breath, as Clem is thrust back into the thrill of the fight and attempts to untangle the lies from the truth. Her loyalties are tested, she is faced with some difficult choices and something is coming that may make things even worse

I do adore Clem as a leading lady – she is brave and resilient yes, but also often a bit of a clutz and doesnt always make the best decisions. Her love for Logan can cloud her judgement and certainly for her, he comes first. The lack of the rather overdone trope of a love triangle works so well here, it is Clem and Logan, has been from the start and you don’t get tied up in knots with endless breathless asides about which boy might be “the one”. It is one of the reasons that for this reader, the Extraction series is a cut above. That relationship is solid, and yes things come between them but ultimately they are the heart and soul of the story.

There are plenty of supporting characters, all very well drawn, the rebels and the “bad” guys all having an eclectic mix of personalities, often not quite what they appear, this keeps things interesting. The story never loses cohesion or gets messy, it is often strangely realistic even though you are reading fantasy.

The ending was beautifully annoying, a perfect set up for the next tale where things are definitely going to change. Whether that is for the better or worse for Clem, Logan, et al remains to be seen. But whatever happens next I’m going to be right there with them for sure…

Highly Recommended for fans of YA Dystopia.

Review:

Rebellion is a must read dystopian YA story, filled with science fiction, battles and hot book boyfriends. This book is the proof that some second parts are even better that the first one!

Rebellion continues the story right were the first book in the series, Extraction, finished. While Clementine has defeated The Commander, the war is not over and so the story continues in Rebellion.

It's true that the story may start a bit slow, but once this part of the book has passed all the plot starts showing the potential the story has. This time the battle, the intensity of it all and the future of the main characters in the story keeps you hooked into the story and unable to stop reading. Moreover, the author has written an amazing plot. I didn't find myself comparing it to other series or wondering if it would be similar to other books. This time, while reading Rebellion, I was just so invested with the story that once I finished all I could think was in reading the following book.

I keep all my reviews spoiler free and I am so excited about this book that I am afraid of writing anything that will give away the story. That's why I am keeping this review short. To sum it up: Rebellion is even better than Extraction. With a mind-blowing plot filled with unexpected twists and characters that keep growing and evolving with each passing book, I would highly recommend this book and this series.

I've been recently only reading contemporary romances, so Rebellion has been a refreshing change in my reading habits lately. I am glad I had the chance to read this series because they are filled with adventure, action, science fiction, fantasy and an epic romance.

**I received this book in exchange of an honest review. Thank you so much to St. Martin's Griffin for offering me the chance to read this book.**

*Thoughts*

Rebellion is the second installment in author Stephanie Diaz's Extraction trilogy. It's been seven days since Clementine, Logan, Beechy, Sandy and their allies retreated into hiding on the Surface where they are hold up in a former Kiel Special Military Corps bunker. Even though Clementine is having regrets about what happened at the end of Extraction, and the loss that still lingers, she feels almost safe with Logan. But, she knows it won't last. The rebels may have won one fight against Commander Charlie, but the war is far from over.

“We can’t forget those who are still imprisoned in the work camps, especially now that there’s acid descending on them from the sky. They already lived in fear of death, and now they have one more way to die.

They deserve freedom. But even if the scouts return and bring us news so we can launch an attack, it will take a lot more than a single battle to liberate everyone in the camps.

Our uprising has barely begun.”

Actual rating: 4.5 stars.

One week ago, Clementine and Logan escaped Commander Charlie's clutches, and are now in hiding on the Surface. Even though the idea of safety is tempting, Clementine knows the peace won't last for long; Charlie is determined to find her and crush the Alliance she's aligned herself with, regardless of the consequences.

To throw the Developers a returning punch, Clementine sneaks back into Kielan society disguised as a worker in one of the Sector camps. There, she tries to stay undercover long enough to find information that will incriminate Charlie and the other Developers. But, the closer Clementine gets to finding the truth, the closer she finds herself to losing everyone she loves, as well as herself.

It's been quite a while from the time I read this to the time I'm writing this review, so unfortunately I can't remember much about it. All I know is that this book is was amazing. It took its predecessor's flaws, and polished them. It took Extraction's tension, plot, and chilling atmosphere, and it cranked the chaos to stratospheric levels.

Every page, it seemed some new disaster had befallen Clementine and her friends, one more obstacle to surmount on the path to truth and freedom. I applaud Diaz for not giving her characters any leeway and making them work towards their goals; it made the pages fly by.

Clementine's strength in this book was unbelievable. Her determination to find the truth drove her far, but her willingness to sacrifice herself for her loved ones was unbelievable. Her selflessness landed her in some pretty terrifying situations—ones she could have easily avoided if she’d been focused just on saving her own skin. But instead, she faces all the challenges thrown at her head-on, because she knew others were counting on her. Her ability to

In regards to plot, Rebellion takes the foundation laid in Extraction, and expounds on it, weaving mere plot threads into dark, chilling tapestries that show just how deep the Developers’ deception runs. The tone of the book is set by the stains of Clementine’s emotional trauma, which grow larger as the book progresses and she’s subjected to more tortures. However, despite every twist, there is always hope remaining for the characters in one way or another, giving Rebellion a sense of urgency that made the book difficult to put down.

Finally, my favorite part: the writing. Clementine is still trying to recover from her experiences in the previous book, and this lends some poignancy to the prose. It helps whet Rebellion into a sleek, sharp dagger aiming strait for the heart. In addition, the ending promises a thrilling conclusion to the trilogy. It looks like Evolution is going to be one heck of a ride.

'Rebellion' is the action packed second book in a young adult dystopian series. The book picks up right where the first left off - the rebellion has officially begun. Logan and Clementine, along with their allies, have gone to the safety of the Surface after winning the first battle against Commander Charlie. The war is far from over, and the Commander has every intention of winning - no matter what the cost. When Clementine and Logan team up against the Commander and against time - they discover just exactly what they're up against. There will be secrets, lies, and anything else that could tear them apart. Is Clementine going to end up losing Logan as well as the war? Is she even strong even to control herself?

Just like the first book in the series, this story had me immediately hooked from the first lines. I felt like no time had passed since I finished the first novel, and it was incredibly easy for me to slip back into the world that the author created. The story continues to follow our heroine, Clementine, along with Logan - her other half and a major hottie. I was glad to see that both of the lead characters continued to grow throughout the story. Sometimes during a series, the characters or other parts of the books become stagnant and lose their appeal - I'm very happy to report that this definitely wasn't the case here. Clementine and Logan both have to grow as characters - as a couple, as a team, as well as on their own. I really enjoyed watching them overcome the many obstacles thrown into their paths and how they had to mature even more in every aspect of their lives. They're basically leading the rebel army against the Commander, so they have no room for petty worries, thoughts, or fears anymore. They must step up and lead the people who believe in the same principles as they do. The plot was intense and really fast paced. There was always something going on, and I was constantly on the edge of my seat, reading as fast as I could to see what was going to happen. The writing is exceptional with detailed descriptions of every aspect of the book - from the characters to the setting and the plot itself. There's loads of vivid imagery, so it's easy for the reader to imagine themselves in that world alongside the characters during the story. I think that this book - and the series - will appeal to fans of several genres, due to the fact that the author wove together such a wide variety to create this enthralling series. There's action, adventure, science fiction, fantasy, dystopia, and romance - just to name some of the genres involved. Overall, I found this to be an exciting and addictive second book in a series that has me hooked. I can't wait until the next book is released to see what's going to happen next. Very highly recommended.

In the exciting and intoxicating science- fiction adventure "Rebellion" Clementine and Logan have joined the resistance on the Surface and although one battle against Commander Charlie's been won, the rebels are determined to end his tyranny before the workers in the camps are moved below ground. Racing against time Clementine and Logan are ordered to infiltrate the work camps underground while Commander Beechy and his team penetrate the Core, but their plans go awry when the rebels are captured and forced to obey their enemy. Under the Commander's control Clementine must become a pawn in his schemes to protect Logan, but in doing so could lose him for good. As the endgame becomes more brutal Clementine discovers that their enemies may reach far beyond the Core as a new adversary begins an attack that could spell the end of the planet and its populace.

In this sequel to "Extraction" Stephanie Diaz blends romance, adventure and science-fiction into a mesmerizing page-turner that heats up when Clementine and Logan are separated when transported to the camps. Planning on spreading word of the rebellion and recruiting the help of the workers, the rebels have little success and are betrayed, then captured by Commander Charlie who has other plans for Clementine. With Logan held hostage and injected with a serum that stifles her resistance the Commander orders Clementine to destroy the rebel base as he prepares for war with the Mardenites. The tension and suspense mounts as Clementine and Beechy struggle against the mind control that makes them pawns in the Commander's scheme. Fast-paced the action never slows as the plot progresses to a fiery climax that begs for a third book.

As the chaos and the Commander's brutality escalates, Clementine and Logan cling to a love that had bonded them before her extraction. But the question remains whether or not their devotion can survive now that she's sacrificed her lucidity to keep him safe. This plot mixes violence and turmoil with strong elements of friendship, love, mercy and hope.

The main characters heighten the drama with all their imperfections and failings, making them unforgettable. Picked by the Developers for Extraction because of her high-intelligence Clementine is more determined than ever to thwart the Commander's scheme to make her a mindless soldier. Resourceful, quick-witted and bold her only vulnerability is Logan her quiet, and rock-solid protector. Commander Charlie the chief antagonist is ruthless, manipulative and selfish. It is his cold-hearted plans that lend a terrifying chill to the adventure and help infuse this intoxicating page-turner with high-energy and excitement.

I liked "Rebellion” and look forward to reading the conclusion to this thrilling trilogy.

REBELLION is the action-packed, suspenseful, and totally epic second book in Stephanie Diaz’s amazing and unputdownable series set on a planet being threatened from without by the moon’s deadly acid and from within by a leader who demands complete subservience and who sees those not Promising as disposable. It is an electrifying and riveting sequel that will keep readers on edge as they follow the rebels and learn whether their uprising is enough to stop the Commander from going through with the latest of his heinous plans.

The story picks up right where it left off in EXTRACTION, following its explosive and heartbreaking end, not missing a beat. It grabs right from the start, sets a fast pace, and thrusts readers right back into the action, taking them on an intense and tension-filled ride that does not let up for a moment.

The rebels have a plan in place, but Commander Charlie always seems to be one step ahead. If they can’t convince others to join in the fight, it will mean the end of their uprising. If they’re caught, it will mean the end for them and those they care most about. And if they can’t stop him, it will mean thousands of lives lost.

The odds may be stacked against them, but they have to try, for the sake of everyone on Kiel who is not deemed worthy. Even if they can’t trust everyone in their alliance with the truth for fear that capture will lead to the inescapable bending of their will to the Commander. And even if not everyone who claims to be an ally is trustworthy.

Up against a cold, calculating, ruthless, and seemingly invincible leader who is willing to use everything and everyone at his disposal to gain the advantage, victory if far from a sure thing. And with the very real possibility that he is not even their biggest or only threat, defeating him may not be enough to save them all.

Betrayal, lies, and treachery abound in this incredibly climactic and heart-stopping second installment. Stephanie Diaz did not hold back in her must-read sophomore novel. REBELLION is even more exciting and danger-filled than its predecessor. There are more shocks and surprises. There are more reasons to despise Commander Charlie. It brings even more heartbreak. And it ends on a note that will leave readers desperate for the next installment.

On the blog I gave this one my 6-star off-the-menu rating.

Rebellion by Stephanie Diaz is book two in the Extraction series and I admit the second I saw this up on Netgalley, I requested it. I loved book one and couldn’t wait to see where Diaz was going to take these characters based on how that book ended.

Rebellion picks up shortly after book one ends. Clementine, Logan, and the other rebels are hiding from Commander Charlie while he continues to look for a way to defeat them and reignite the war with Marden.

Clementine is definitely feeling the aftereffects of going against the Commander. She still feels a lot of guilt over what happened to Oliver and she can’t seem to get over the fear she has that the Commander is after her. I thought she was much more vulnerable as a character in this book than she was in book one. Partially because Logan is closer to her (location-wise) and there seems to be more risk to him which trickles down into what Clementine is willing to risk.

While Clementine tries to protect him by not sharing everything with him, she realizes it is only hurting their relationship and she finally tells Logan what she is going through. I think this had to happen in order for Logan to be willing to risk everything in the rebellion.

I can’t say much about the story without giving anything away so all you will really get here is that the story definitely moves forward. Things happen that were unexpected and as the group does what they need to in order to save everyone from the Commander, things do not go as planned. There was great progression in the story and I thought Diaz did a fantastic job of creating the worlds these characters experience in this book.

If you like science fiction and action along with some solid world building and character development definitely check this series out. I can’t wait to see where Diaz takes the story in the next book and recommend you consider reading this when you get a chance.

An uprising has begun, and one girl is faced with an impossible task; to save those she loves, she has to lose herself. The sequel to Extraction, this book picks up seven days after Clementine and her boyfriend Logan escaped to the rebel's base, and are living in hiding as they plan their next strike. But Clementine is struggling with keeping control of herself, all while doing whatever she can to end the war.

Clementine was a pretty cool heroine. She struggled with guilt and problems with PTSD. It's just so more believable when book characters have anxiety or other problems because when you go through tragic and difficult events, you're probably going to have long term affects. Too many characters in books don't seem to have any remaining issues after tragic events.

I love books written by fangirls. Something bout them just seem so tailor made for other fangirls (and fanboys, I'm sure). The romance is very light, with lots of action and themes of self-struggle. Clem struggles because she loses control on herself, buts done in such a way it makes you think about how hard it would be to lose yourself in a real life setting.

I didn't read the first book, but that wasn't a problem. Diaz explains enough throughout the book that you don't feel like you're missing anything. The writing flows really well, and once you're hooked, you can't stop reading; I read it in one sitting.

I found this book to be a mix of Divergent, Firefly, and that Doctor Who episode when Martha joins Donna and Ten and they go to a planet and Ten has a daughter and it's all confusing. Just like this sentence.

I defiantly recommend this book for anyone looking for a new kind of Dystopia

I thought Rebellion was a good sequel to Extraction. I no longer felt like I was constantly comparing it to other YA series and it felt like the story was coming into its own more. Sometimes, with sequels I feel like they just are extensions of the first book and don’t have their own Story. However, with Rebellion I do feel like it stands well on its own.

One thing I wish we could have seen more of was secondary character development. Clementine definitely has grown since the beginning of the first book but to be honest she is the only character who has seen any change. I want to care about Logan, who is so important to Clementine, but I just can’t seem to find it in me because I don’t see any growth since book one. Same goes with Commander Charlie, the villain. I just want to know more about him and what is motivating his actions.

However, the story itself was fantastic and the plot twists kept me turning the pages, from page one until the very end. Speaking of the ending, what a cliff-hanger! It's like when a TV show stops mid action scene and says "TO BE CONTINUED". I want the sequel now! Thankfully it is coming out later this year so I don't have to wait too long.

If for any reason you weren’t a huge fan of the first book in the series, Extraction, I would highly recommend picking up Rebellion. This is one of the few series I can without a doubt say doesn’t suffer from second book syndrome. I’m looking forward to book three and anything Diaz writes next.

REBELLION starts a week after EXTRACTION ends. Clementine keeps flashing back to Oliver's death and the other terrible things she's been through. Her mind is still sharp, but she's not exactly up to taking part in space battles.

But time is ticking down for the rebels to foil Commander Charlie's plans, and she and her boyfriend Logan go undercover in a work camp while the other rebels infiltrate other places. Clementine's mission: sow dissent and prevent the workers from being injected with a mind-control serum. (It all makes sense if you've read the first book.)

Clementine and Logan's relationship was a highlight of REBELLION for me, so I liked getting to see them interact more. They each make the other feel more safe, but their dedication to each other can be used against them. However, much of the cast is new as Clementine is sent to a new location. There are some reoccurring characters, including an antagonist from Clementine's childhood who proves to be more than a senseless bully.

Unfortunately, REBELLION did feel like the middle book in a trilogy. EXTRACTION promised aliens, but they aren't quite there during the time period of REBELLION. There's a new setting, but it's pretty similar to the Surface of the first book, and the differences aren't explored in depth. There's a greater focus on internal conflict until the antagonist shows up. (Oddly, the conflict remains mostly internal, but for a very external cause.)

I'm excited to see how Stephanie Diaz will finish her debut trilogy. She knows how to write a fun sci-fi yarn, and she ended REBELLION with one hell of a hook.

In Rebellion, Clementine must try to stop Commander Charlie's plans to destroy the alien threat at the cost of thousands of lives. She joins the rebels but soon learns there is nowhere she can hide from Charlie and his own plans for her.

This book is very much in the style of the first and is just a really fun ride. Clementine is as ever fiesty and cunning and always planning to thwart Charlie and the core. And yet there is much realism here.. Clementine doesn't always have perfect luck and she ends up in the enemies hands several times through the story. And so that was very interesting to see her really have to face true challenges when her luck runs out. Another neat thing about this book is that the reader is constantly questioning the loyalty of various characters....even ones who you think are solid as a rock.

I don't have too many faults with this book. I thought the mind control stuff was a bit far-fetched, but it worked well to cause tension and some turmoil in the characters. And the ending is very much a cliff hanger.

But overall I really enjoyed this book. It was a great adventure and a good page turner, and one I didn't want to put down. I am so looking forward to the next book to see what happens next.

NOTE: I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review.

First I'll being with a few of the rather small issues:
The book began slow.

I still haven't become overly attached to Logan as a character, except through Clementine's eyes.

In that same vein, I don't think there was over much character development.

Now, onto the good parts. There wasn't much character development for only one reason, I think. After the beginning, the book moved fast. The story continuously changed and the people around Clementine also changed quickly. This, added to a plot that was rather complex, kept the book very busy.

The antagonist in the book is also very believable and comes across very well. (I actually think I like him... Sh.)

The best part of the book was the climax. Like the first book, this one had a killer climax that just kept getting bigger and bigger and bigger...

An awesome read. A definite recommendation. Quite a cliff-hanger for an end. I'm still hanging. And waiting for the 3rd book. No fair...

This continues on from where the first book left off. Clementine joins a rebel group, and the Alliance devises a strategy to put its members undercover to unravel Commander Charlie's plan from the inside. But Commander Charlie may no longer be their biggest threat...

This was a great follow on from the first book. Shocker twists, high stakes, real danger, and nowhere to hide. Clementine isn't sure who to trust, and neither are we. After an explosive ending I'm glad I have the third and final book ready to go. I'm looking forward to finding out what happens next in this well-imagined world. A great twist on the genre.

This was a pretty good book, the plot moves quickly, and the characters are fun. I can’t wait to read the third one and see where everything goes. There’s so much intrigue and betrayal, and you’re never really truly sure who’s good and who’s bad, who's working of their own free will and who’s being controlled, which makes it very interesting. The romance isn’t overpowering which is always nice.

I really like this series. The only problem is that there is a long list of similarities between this, The Hunger Games, and Divergent. I could honestly list similarities for hours, but I won't bore you with all of them. My "favorites" are how much Sam resembles Eric and how both take a mind control serum that the main character just happens to be immune to. What stopped me from giving this book 2 stars is how strong Clem, the main character is. She is probably the least Mary Sue, Bella character that I have read about in a long time, probably since The Winner's Curse. Another thing I need to add is just how much I love this cover. It's so teal and purple!!! I just love it. Now that the cover for the next book is released, I can say that Rebellion has my favorite cover of the entire series. Now for my summary, spoilers ahead!!

Clem is with Logan and the other rebels in their headquarters underground. Clem is still terrified of being in the unstable hospital and is worried that Charlie will find her again and will be successful in controlling her. She is even more scared that Charlie will capture Logan again and torture him. They go undercover in one of the camps and she gets separated from Logan. They try to convince some people to join their side, but need to be careful so they don't get caught, since if they do they will be killed by Charlie. Clem is about to get shot with the medicine she is immune to, but right before she does the building explodes. Shortly after, she finds out that Logan got the shot and it is really a bomb that Charlie can activate whenever he wants. The guards realize who she is and bring her to Charlie. In exchange for getting the bomb out of Logan, Clem agrees to let them use the new controlling serum on her that actually works. She becomes a solder for them, but cannot control anything she does. Right before she leaves to go on a quest to kill the rebels she is forced to shoot Logan in the leg. She tries to resist and starts to make the medicine ineffective. Instead of killing him, she just shoots his bad leg. She goes to fight the rebels. They surrender and she finally breaks free. At that moment the aliens from another planet come for war.

This is a good series to read and I would recommend it to anyone who hasn't in fact read Divergent or The Hunger Games, just because then they won't feel that this is copying those as much. Next is The Winner's Crime which I have been dying to read!!

*Warning: This is the second book in a series. While I really don't like spoilers, there are definitely spoilers for Book 1 in this review.*

As with other sequels, I've decided to write a mini review for Rebellion, where I just share some of my notes.

-The fact that she's now in a secret rebel base located inside a mountain totally reminds me of Mockingjay.

-I really like how, from the beginning, she's not totally blaming herself for Oliver's death in the first book. She kind of blames herself, obvs, because anyone would feel guilty in her situation, but it's not like in most books where the MC is like, "it's all my fault, boo hoo!" for a third of the book. Here she realizes that it's really not her fault.

-I also like the fact that, although some people like Beechy have found a way to fight the controlling serum, the only reason Clementine wasn't controlled by it was because she was allergic to it. So she's really not that special. I mean, she was special enough to be chosen for Extraction in book 1, but she's not super special.

-Even though she doesn't blame herself for Oliver's death, I'm glad she is still extremely affected by it in this book. She's also still plagued by the way Sam assaulted her in book 1, and also for her horrific time inside the prison.

-I'm glad to see Clementine does something really wrong and awful. This, plus all her anxiety over things that happened to her in the first book, really make her into a realistic, flawed character.

-Sam! Aaaaaahhhh! This is not good.

-I'm seeing lots of little things that remind me of other books...

-I like how we get to see the first-hand POV of someone who is under the influence of the serum in this book. In Extraction, we just kind of saw how others acted, but in Rebellion, we get to see what goes on in their heads while they are on the serum.

My rating for Rebellion by Stephanie Diaz: 4 stars. I liked this one slightly more than Extraction, but I still feel like there's a lot of potential here that is still untapped. Hopefully the next book will be amazing!

To say that I had a hard time at the start of Rebellion would be an understatement. I thought that I remembered everything from Extraction, but turns out that my memory had big holes in it. Half of the things that happened, were completely erased from my mind.

Rebellion is about, well, a rebellion. Clementine and a small group of rebels are plotting how to undermine Commander Charlie’s plans and save the rest of the people. First 40% of Rebellion are a large introduction with a big focus on how everything that happened in Extraction influenced Clementine.

Clementine’s personal drama and nightmares make her mentally unstable and untrustworthy as a hero. It was refreshing to read about a young adult dystopian heroine who is not almighty and goes through a big emotional turmoil caused by things that happen to her.

"I wonder if I’ll come back. I’m not even sure if I want to. I might be better off not getting through the mission in one piece, if worse things are still to come. But I hope it will be my choice when the time comes."

On the other hand, since I am a girl who always votes for more explosions and less emotional drama, these parts were boring to me. But I bet there are those who are going to love the intricacy of emotions Clementine goes trough.

When the plot got started, the rest of Rebellion flowed pretty quickly. The constant tension if Clementine and her group will be discovered and what will happen next made up for the slow start. And just when the things got interesting, I was left with a big cliffhanger ending.

When I think about it, I learned nothing new about Clementine’s planet, just more about Commander Charlie plans. The whole focus of Rebellion was on Clementine and her feelings. The rest of the characters felt flat compared to her.

IN THE END…
I can not say Rebellion was a bad book or a bad sequel. If you ignore a slow start and don’t mind big focus on inner drama, then you are going to enjoy getting up close and personal with Clementine.

Rebellion is the sequel to Extraction, which is definitely a great dystopian/sci-fi YA book to get on your reading list! As with most dystopian and sci-fi books, there’s plenty of detailed settings and descriptions used to set the tone in the first book. If you don’t read Extraction first, you’ll be at sea with Rebellion.

That said, Rebellion is a solid follow-up to Extraction. At the beginning of Extraction, Clementine is one of the chosen few who gets to be taken to the Earth’s Core to live, safe from the poisonous acid that rains down from the moon and poisons the surface of the world. Clementine then uncovers various conspiracies that would be super spoilers if I mentioned them here, so I won’t. Suffice it to say that the ending takes the series to the next level. The book goes from standard dystopian to awesome sci-fi in one big plot twist.

As with Extraction, Rebellion is slow going at first. It follows the tried-and-true dystopian story line of Girl Against the Government, but with one main difference: Clementine’s past traumas and fears do play a role in the book, and are portrayed consistently, for the most part. The book hits its stride in the second half, when it switches gears from dystopian to a more sci-fi take.

Still, Rebellion leaves a few questions unanswered. Like a lot of dystopian YA, there’s always the mystery of what makes the protagonist so special? Why is she the One to rise up against the government? But with the Extraction series’ track record of sweet sci-fi plot twists, I have faith that any mysteries about Clementine will be resolved in the last book.

This is a drastic oversimplification, but: The Extraction series is like Divergent and Ender’s Game had a baby. A less problematic, more girl-power-awesome baby. Rebellion is a great book for anyone who’s a fan of dystopian YA or sci-fi. (Seriously, though, read the first book Extraction before Rebellion, or you’re going to be so confused.) I’m definitely looking forward to reading the sequel to Rebellion!

Recommendation: Get it soon! Well, when it comes out on Feb 10, 2015!

3.5 out of 5 stars

I liked Extraction, though I thought it had some room for improvement. The world was interesting, the pace fast, and the main character, Clementine, fierce. And Rebellion was better. In this sequel, we see more of the world of Kiel and more of Clementine's willingness to sacrifice herself to save those she loves.

While Clementine is more introspective in this book, that's expected after what she's done and let happen in the first book. She is guilty over letting Oliver sacrifice himself, and each day she feels as if she's diving farther into a pool of darkness, hurting others in her mission to take down Commander Charlie. At the same time, she's still protecting Logan with all she has. Even though she wants to get rid of Charlie, first and foremost is Logan. At times, it's frustrating, because without the tie to Logan, she'd be a much more effective rebel. Yet, Logan keeps Clementine from going too far. Knowing there's a line she will not cross is what makes her better and what keeps her sane.

And though Clementine is a bit of a tortured soul, that doesn't mean there's not plenty going on. The Alliance isn't sitting around making plans. Very quickly, they're mobilizing, putting their people into place. There's very little time for Clementine to really dwell, only in short moments, and it keeps the book moving quickly. While the beginning takes a little while really to get going, once it does, there's no stopping. While it took me a few days to read the first fifty pages, I read the rest in an afternoon--and they flew by.

If you read and liked Extraction, keep going! I think Rebellion is better, and it sets up the final book, Evolution, to be even more exciting. If you like your dystopian with more than a little hint of science fiction, this is likely the series for you.

The Story-
It's been seven days since Clementine and Logan escaped from the Core. Seven days of living among rebels in a hidden mountain base. Seven days of nightmares revolving around Oliver's death. They might have stopped Commander Charlie from blowing up the world, but they know he will have a contingency plan.

The rebels decide to act fast, and Clementine and Logan volunteer to return to a surface camp and be taken down into the crust. Right away things go wrong and the two are separated. Clementine struggles to find Logan and uncover Commander Charlie's plans. The rebels begin launching their own attacks, but things go from bad to worse as traitors are revealed. When Clementine is captured and subdued by a new drug, she is placed under the Commander's control. Unwillingly she is forced to take part in a murderous new plan to destroy the children of the surface.

My Thoughts-
So good. I read book one and this one in two days. I really enjoyed the unique story line and the continual tension. As a second in a series this one delivers. It starts right off from the previous book and explores a whole new side of things. We visit the crust and see the struggles of the humans that live there and really focus on the rebels.

The idea that struck me the most was that the Commander is right about the Mardinites and their impending arrival. The part that sucks is how he decides to handle it. In the first book we have the bomb, and in this book we have children as living bombs. It is so horrible and I have such a hard time understanding his logic. He must be crazy, so I guess the fact that he has to drug everyone makes sense.

The ending of this book is thrilling and I can't wait for the next book, Evolution in the fall of 2015. Once again the story is going to a whole nother level and the war that is coming externally and the one already happening internally are going to clash. 4.5 stars!
