Imagine you're at coffee with your big sis or a trusted gal pal - that's what this book is. The hard truths we need to hear covered in grace and a little bit of laughter. Erica is speaking truth into the lies we so often not only believe, but tell ourselves on repeat. Highly recommend this book to any girl or woman who has fallen prey to the lies - I wish my younger self had these words in my hands at 25 - and thankful to read them even now!
I was given an early copy of this book as part of the launch team for Erica. God directed this to my hands exactly when I needed it. Erica brings to us many of the things culture wants us to believe that just aren’t true. God’s truth reminds who He is and who al we are and that in Him we find truth. From “I can do anything” to “I’ll be happy when ___”, Erica takes the lies of culture and replaces them with the truth of Scripture. When we allow His truth to invade our minds and replace the lies, we can live fully into the purpose for which we were created. And we walk in freedom.
Reading Erica's story, even after following her for years, was almost shocking. I couldn't put this down once I finally picked it up because this isn't my story but somehow...it is.
As young millennials, we became adults just before the peak of Girl Boss culture, and I just want to hand this book to my younger self and tell her she's doing a great job.
I have struggled with contentment in my life. I am always looking for the next thing. The next project, the next idea, the next raise, the next kid. Whatever it is, I HAVE to be chasing something, even though I do know better.
As millennials, we have also watched and lived through countless "unprecedented times" and for many of us, I think covid was the breaking point. We have to do something different; and so we are all slowly healing.
"She's tired" has been the mantra I have been trying not to tell myself. I/We grew up thinking that rest was laziness and even KNOWING better, it is truly hard to let that all go.
"That's Just Not True" is a must read for us women in our 30s. In it, Erica tells her story and gives herself (& us) permission to stop hustling. Rooted in God's Truth instead of the worlds, you will be nodding along and underlining until your pencil is dull.
That’s Just Not True is for any millennial ex-boss babe who is tired of the hustle and ready for some encouragement about who God really says she is. Through story-telling and scripture, Erica shares a genuine heart for women to find their truth in God’s word. If you have followed Erica’s blog, then her writing style will be familiar! Reading That’s Just Not True is like sitting down with a friend over a cup of coffee for some serious calling-in and encouragement. Erica does not shy away from lies of the world that we women tend to find ourselves ingrained in, and she uses scripture to remind us of our true purpose- to be daughters of God and live out our calling in loving others towards Christ.
I was given this book as an ARC, but all opinions are my own.
Reading this book feels like talking to your oldest best friend who loves you and knows you but isn’t afraid to tell it how it is. I didn’t want to put it down! This book helped me put in to words for the lies my brain has been telling me at different stages throughout my life. Erica challenges and encourages the reader to reframe those lies and give it all back to God.
This book is beautifully raw and just what I needed as I transition to a life of GO GO GO perfectionist who loves to be in control and transition to my new role (and favorite yet) as a stay-at-home mom. Can’t wait to gift this to some of my very best friends!
This is your guidebook to some serious self-reflection and reconsideration of what you believe and why - and then your map to redirection and renewal! Erica is a talented author who smoothly blends story telling with Scripture, guidance, and humor. That's just Not True is engaging, enlightening, and entertaining - a must read for women of all ages because there is always something we can learn that has huge impact. I'd highly recommend for young adult women to read, before the lies take hold, and for the more mature among us, like myself, who don't want to waste any more precious time. This is the kind of truth that heals.
That’s Just Not True is a book that Erica Ligenza Gwynn needed, and so she worked through the issues she presents in the book, the LIES we believe that are just not true, and the result of her deep dive in those lies is found in the pages of this very powerful and healing book. This book is not only healing, it is empowering! It is the book that many of us need to read again and again! Each chapter focuses on a lie we believe. We find out what God really says about it and how we can believe the truth and act on it. Don’t tell my family, but I think the women are all getting this for Christmas!
You need to read this book immediately! I find myself reading and rereading as well as constantly quoting these truths that Erica so perfectly reveals. As she says “even a half truth is still a lie” and we have to challenge them to be able to live more fully and freely with God. As a mental health therapist I find this book to be so refreshing to counter our culture’s mentality of hustling, perfectionism, and chasing an ever moving finish line that we never quite seem to reach. This book will have you laughing, crying, and ultimately breathing in a sigh of relief with the freedom you will find!
Erica hits the nail on the head - not only with the lies that we and the world tell ourselves but with scripturally based TRUTH of what the author of our stories says. That’s Just Not True is a great reminder for any of us who had inspirational quotes doodled in all your notebooks, throughout your home or dorm room, and swirling in your head, that truth is lasting. A beautiful reminder of how we can live as women of Christ in fun to read manner. Written as though you are sitting down for a gal chat, Erica invites you in, makes you laugh, and reminds you of what truly matters.
Wow! What a wonderful book from Erica to remind us to slow down, and trust God’s word. That’s Just Not True is filled with scriptures, quotes, and reminders to that things we perceived to be true, may in fact be a lie. Reading this book I felt like I was sitting next to Erica and chatting with my best friend! Erica opens up about her personal life and about how social media makes you perceive certain things, when in reality, we should be trusting God’s words. Thank you, THANK YOU, for such a wonderful book, Erica!
That’s Just Not True felt like sitting down for coffee with a friend who is (encouragingly) giving you some tough life advice. Erica encourages the reader to rethink some of the narratives we might have heard growing up and help us embrace God’s word along the way. There were multiple times I felt like Erica was speaking directly at me, with a neon sign, saying “I see you, I’ve been there, and this is how God will help you through”. I definitely would recommend this book to all my girls who need some encouragement!!
Give yourself the gift of this book now…and your friends, for that matter. That’s Just Not True managed to make me laugh, cry, and most of all reflect. It’s an ‘easy’ read with a deep impact. Allow Erica to chat with you, challenge you, and change your outlook, if needed. God certainly allowed this book to be written ‘for such a time as this’! I highly enjoyed reading it the first time and will definitely be picking up again and again when I need those biblically based truths to be given to me on repeat!
In an ever changing world, this is the truth we all need to hear. A beautiful reminder of Gods truth in the midst of all the confusion we hear daily. I am so honored I was able to read this early as part of Erica’s launch team but cannot wait for the rest of the world to get their hands on this book. One of my favorite quotes from the book was “maybe our job lies in simply surrendering and curiously, excitedly anticipating the beautiful picture on the other side.” God has a mighty work to do in all of us, and a beautiful price of Erica’s work is in this book.
Such a well-written, thought-provoking book! This book tells you “lies” that society tells us and explains why they are not true or aligned with God’s truth. One that resonated with me was “it’s happening for everyone but me” and the book explains how you are on God’s timeline and you should force your fear into an act of faith. Such a great read!
Right on point and so relatable. Glad I am not alone. This book makes for a great gift for a friend in need of encouragement. I love how Erica points it all back to God and is down to earth and real. No fluff here. So grab a cup of coffee and enjoy these lies turn into the right truths!
As you read That's Not True you'll envision Erica Ligenza Gwynn pulling out a chair, patting the cushion, sliding a cup of coffee your way and inviting you into some real talk (with plenty of laughs and a few tissues thrown in).
Erica is a witty and engaging writer who takes us through some of the negative and discouraging things we believe which simply are NOT true. Through personal storytelling she explains where we might have heard these lies, why we might have believed them and then, using Scripture, teaches us how to dismantle these lies so that we can live more fully in the goodness and love Jesus intends for us.
Erica isn't just telling us what to do--she's the real deal. She's lived this book out and longs for other women to experience the freedom she's finding. I highly recommend That's Not True for anyone who's sick of believing the lies and longs to step into freedom and abundance.
