Golden State Treasure #3

Riches Beyond Measure

Rate this book
When an earthquake strikes Two Harts Ranch, it shakes the life of Annie Lane along with Cord Westbrook, who has been working as a cowboy on Annie's family's ranch in anticipation of purchasing his own. The only thing delaying his plan is the deep attraction he feels toward Annie, a widow with a child and an established life as a teacher at the Hart School for Orphans. Unfortunately for Cord, she seems determined to avoid romance.

The aftermath of the earthquake reveals that prized artifacts from the long-sought MacKenzie treasure have been stolen from the ranch. But the return of the MacKenzie family to Two Harts soon has everyone focused on what other precious finds might await at the end of the legendary two-part map. As Cord, Annie, and the MacKenzies set out in search of riches, they face dangers more perilous than earthquakes. With gold in their sights and love within reach, Cord and Annie realize that some treasures may fade, but true riches are far more valuable than earthly goods.

This riveting conclusion to Mary Connealy's Golden State Treasure series is a rousing California wilderness adventure filled with danger, deception, and second chances.

It's always bittersweet when I finish a series by this author, because I fall in love with her characters and end up wanting more. But then a new series comes out and I get to go through the whole roller-coaster again.

I was so looking forward to seeing how the treasure hunt would play out, and it exceeded all my expectations. The romance did too, but that was a given.

There's something so comforting in the way Connealy writes, the adventures are exciting and will get your blood pumping, but there are enough tender moments to balance it out.

The faith content was a bit stronger in this one, or maybe that's just my impression, I don't mind one bit though!!

As sad as I am to say goodbye to this lovely cast of characters, something tells me this won't be the last time we're seeing them. Also, I really need to go back and read The Lumber Baron's Daughters while I wait for Rocky Mountain Marshals, so that I can be all caught up.

Riches Beyond Measure concludes the Golden State Treasure series by Mary Connealy. This one starts out with an earthquake that shakes up a whole lot of things-but not the resolve of the characters to finally find the hidden treasure that Graham McKenzie buried and left clues to before he died.
The Two Harts Ranch is base for the Harts and Cord Westbrook to venture from to locate the treasure. While evaluating the damage to buildings in the aftermath of the earthquake, 300 year old artifacts are discovered missing. Their quest for additional treasure has just gotten riskier.
Ms. Connealy crafts a complex, dangerous, realistic story and yet manages to pen a satisfying romance between Annie and Cord, two honorable, faith filled people.
I liked the drama of the hunt for the treasure and the clear delineation between the greed of the thieves and the motivations of the Harts, McKenzies and Westbrooks. The protagonists showed that even though they had wealth, their treasure was really spiritual. They recognized that God was the source of all things and sought to serve others.
This was a satisfying conclusion to the series with hints of another worthy series to come.

The third and final book in this series! Here we get the last one of the siblings with Annie's story. I highly recommend reading all the books prior to this one, including some of the other books with the Lumber Baron's daughters to get a complete picture of all the characters.

Annie is a widow with a child so her perspective is a bit different from the other ladies that have been in the books. Cord carries forward into this story as well. Not only do we get to see Annie and Cord's relationship (which is tied up with a bow about mid-book) but we get the FINAL conclusion to the treasure hunt the series has been following.

The twist at the end regarding the treasure was clever.

Overall, this book is no more than a 3.5 for me. It was okay, but no emotion, no great spiritual insight for me. And I'd say that was about how the whole series was. It wasn't one of my favorites from the author. I'd give the whole series about a 3.5.

*Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for my copy of this ARC. All opinions are 100% my own.

An excellent finale to a super fun series! Mary knows how to pen a story that is choc full of romance, humor, mystery and danger and this one has all of that and more! This was a quick and easy read and I really enjoyed seeing how the hunt for treasure was finally going to play out and what they were actually going to find. What they found was surprising and made the read even more compelling for me. I never miss a Mary Connealy story and this is one of her best!

I received a copy of this book from the publisher, as well as purchased my own audio copy. I was not required to post a positive review. All thoughts are my own.

“…we already have riches beyond measure through our faith in an Almighty God.”

I have been eagerly following the treasure hunt that started in book one of this series so, even though this is the last book (which normally makes me sad), I was really looking forward to finding out how it would all end up. Plus, I have been NEEDING to know how everyone and everything at Two Harts Ranch fared in the earthquake I read about in the teaser for Riches Beyond Measure included at the end of the previous book. Like… since June, I legit have thought about these characters often and hoped they were okay. Because of course they’re real people and don’t you try to tell me otherwise! Mary Connealy always creates characters I care maybe too much about (I thought about Big John needing his own HEA for YEARS until he finally got one haha), and the Harts & MacKenzies are no exception.

Well, hold on to your Stetsons because that earthquake is far from the only danger – or the only earthquake – they have to contend with in Riches Beyond Measure. But for all the heart-in-your-throat moments, there’s also a lot of joyous moments, humorous scenes, and swoony ones too! I loved the sparks between Cord & Annie and getting to watch them finally act on that attraction they’ve felt since they first met. Once they get to kissing, expect to grin a lot if you’re anything like me. And in between all of the above there’s still the little matter of a treasure hunt to see to completion, and the turn this one takes is really fun. Okay, it’s a little (or a lot) harrowing there for a bit, but then it gets really fun (until it gets a little harrowing again). Hanging out with the protagonists from the other two books as well as the side characters we’ve collected along the way is something else I loved about this story, not to mention how well the cowboy-pirate combination works!

Bottom Line: Riches Beyond Measure wraps up Mary Connealy’s Golden State Treasure series with everything readers love about her stories – quick wit, heartfelt faith, dashing adventure, and plucky characters who feel like old friends. Everything from certain turns of phrase in the narrative to the way the characters conduct themselves contributes to giving us a real sense of place and time, fully immersing us in the setting from start to finish. Watching Cord and Annie’s relationship finally spark to life amid all the chaos (earthquakes! theft! pirates!) is especially satisfying (and swoony!), and the exciting twists in the treasure hunt make for a thrilling finale that’s also deeply rewarding as a reader. Even though we’re saying goodbye to these very likable characters for now, I’ll be watching for them to pop up in future novels by this author. Because with Mary Connealy orchestrating their lives beyond their focus series, it’s always a delightful possibility!

Early in the book the reader is shaken by the trembling terror of the California area, an earth opening, ground breaking earthquake with multi after quakes. A chuck wagon (i.e. the food wagon) is swallowed by a gaping split in the earth, and the story of good folks in the early days of the American frontier continues to unfold with a race for cover.

As the conclusion, this third book takes the reader farther along the trail seeking to find lost Spanish treasure that has been the thread throughout the series. In this book, the family and cow hands we've met previously continue their jaunt through the pages giving insight into life on the frontier, good folks, good family, desperadoes, and workers of deceit. It also takes the broken hearted widow and melds her heart with the grandson of a California banker who really wants to have his own ranch.

Mary Connealy's writing style continues to please and bring enjoyment. Her stories have light hearted overtones and yet bring excitement with the clash of good and evil. The stories are always clean, faith based but not preachy. Good lessons are learned. Pleasant times of reading are gleaned from encountering a Connealy story.

I totally enjoyed this book.

Riches Beyond Measure. Don’t let that title fool you. Yes the characters are looking for treasure. They’ve been searching for it throughout this series. But in each book they find something worth so much more.

And you my friends will find a treasure in Connealy’s words. I just adore her writing and I couldn’t wait to get my hands on Cord and Annie’s story. It is full of romance, history, danger, and so much more. Riches Beyond Measure is a historical romance story that should be on everyone’s TBR. And if you haven’t read any of the Golden State Treasure series, I encourage you to start with book one so you get the full picture. It’s well worth your time!

Riches Beyond Measure, the final book in Mary Connealy's Golden State Treasure series begins with an earthquake and keeps you on the edge of your seat through the whole adventure! Cord Westbrook and Annie Hart Lane experience danger and mystery that deepens their faith and brings them closer together. Cord's grandpa's half of the treasure map that corresponds to the Mackenzie brothers' map their grandpa left them leads them to more old Spanish trinkets and some gold coins. But what is so valuable it's worth killing for? This story was full of danger, mystery, romance and faith that keeps you wanting to read on.

What a fantastic conclusion to an exhilarating series!

This third installment delves into the adventures of Cord Westbrook and Annie Lane as they embark on a quest to find the MacKenzie’s Treasure. A series of earthquakes wreaks havoc on the Two Harts Ranch, causing a theft of previously collected treasures. The MacKenzie brothers return, eager to continue their grandfather’s treasure hunt. Two archeologists join them, their true intentions shrouded in doubt, especially from the brothers.

Annie, Cord, the MacKenzie brothers, and the archeologists set out on a perilous journey to find the treasure. Will they succeed? Will the budding feelings between Cord and Annie blossom or will more earthquakes bring unforeseen surprises and danger? You’ll have to read to find out!

I received this book as an Advanced Reader Copy from NetGalley and the Baker House Publisher. However, I was not obligated to write a review. The thoughts expressed are entirely my own and mine alone.

What a fantastic read this is! Earthquakes, stolen treasures and strong family ties are what you’ll find within the pages of this novel.

I have loved this series and am sad to see it end, but what a satisfying ending it is. We reconnect with favorites from the first two books in this trilogy, it was good to be back at Two Harts Ranch where it feels like home.

Unfortunately there are some nefarious characters who are causing problems at the ranch and beyond.
It wouldn’t be such an interesting novel without a bad guy or two though, right?

Cord Westbrook and Annie Lane are caught up in an earthquake at the start of this final volume in the Golden State Treasure series, and it is so well described that the reader can almost feel the movement. When they get back to Two Harts Ranch it's soon clear that someone has used the considerable distraction of the earthquake to steal precious items from the MacKenzie treasure which has been found on the ranch. Cord, Annie and the MacKenzies set out to see if they can recover the lost items, and also to see if they can finally locate the rest of the treasure which they are sure is still hidden on the ranch. But there are considerably more dangers than earthquake after shocks, and they don't all come from expected directions. Finding the treasure is not going to be easy, and we are reminded again that treasure is not only physical items.

Mary Connealy is expert at writing 'cowboy romances' and her descriptive writing of the countryside and people reflects this. The pace is brisk, and the reader eagerly follows along to discover how the story will progress. To write a sort of 'Pirate Story' set inland with a background of an orphan school is genuinely something different and that isn't something you can say often about novels, where it's common to see similar plot lines reappear time and again. In this volume of the series, I personally felt that the treasure storyline was a little more gripping than the people storyline, which is the first time I've felt that in the Golden State Treasure series. I enjoyed it very much, but I think I personally enjoyed the earlier two books a tiny bit more in terms of the romances! That said, this book ends the series pretty much as a huge fireworks display ends a big celebration. You couldn't really ask for more in terms of a Western treasure hunt!

I have to say that Mary Connealy has become an author whose books I look out for. Her gift of storytelling, with excellent characterisation and the wonderful ability to give each novel a deep and expansive sense of place is exceptional.

Note for transparency: I read a pre-publication review copy which may change before publication. I was not obligated to write a positive review. The comments above are my own personal views, and mine alone.

“I don’t think there’s a thing wrong with you, Cord. But I’m afraid. I barely survived losing Todd. I fear my heart has hardened a bit. When I look at you and . . . feel something, it’s a pain I can’t bear. Please don’t let that hurt you. It’s my own broken heart that won’t let anyone else in.”

A fantastic conclusion to the MacKenzie treasure hunt! A story full of family, adventure, danger, faith, suspense, and love. I enjoyed being back at the Two Harts ranch and seeing all the family from the previous books. I loved the ways the story reminded me that life’s greatest treasures are far more valuable than any earthly riches.

Annie is intelligent, hardworking, a devoted mother, and caring teacher. Cord is caring, protective, and determined to learn all he can about ranching and to help in the treasure hunt. I loved how their friendship blossomed into love, and the strength Annie had to open her heart again was amazing. Cord’s gentleness with little Caroline was delightful. I enjoyed seeing the young MacKenzie men and their growth. The treasure hunt was so interesting, full of danger, and twists. I really enjoyed learning a bit about the conquistadors.

Note: This is book 3 in the series and while it can be read as a stand alone, I highly recommend reading the whole series to better understand all that is taking place.

One more quote:
“You know how I love music, don’t you?” Annie nodded. “I don’t think anyone could play as beautifully as you do without loving it.” Cord leaned down and kissed her tenderly. “You hum in my veins. You’re like a chorus of angels. You’re the music of my life, Annie. You and I and Caroline together strike a perfect chord of harmony.”

I received an advanced reader's edition from Net Galley in exchange for my honest review.

In preparation of this series I went back and re-read the lumber baron's daughters series. There is a bit of a crossover between the two, although if you read them back to back the timeline doesn't match up quite right.
This series is about a lost family reunited, and then found family- on a search for missing treasure. The actual hunt has deep significance all around, for the family reunited, for the historical and also the individual (and what that treasure does to a person). I loved the historical questions of what the find actually meant for California. Also, what a natural disaster can do to change the course of things.

This series as a whole was just okay for me ( I definitely like Lumber Baron better). I liked the little pop ins from previous characters, but could've used more of them myself ( I would've liked to see the lumber sisters come together and test out earthquake proofing structures!) Book 1 was the slow burn, book 2 was the marry for safety, this one was the love at first sight, which worked out well for my favorite of the three couples. Or I really liked that Annie got a good ending since her first husband was gunned down 4 books ago. I also appreciated that the bad guy wasn't one of the fathers turned evil. All in all it was just okay, neither my least favorite or favorite middle of the road, but sometimes that make for a pretty good weekend read

Riches Beyond Measure is the perfect read for all of us who grew up watching TV westerns! Set in 1875 at Two Hearts Ranch in California, it begins with a terrifying earthquake, progresses to the discovery that priceless treasure has been stolen, and continues with the desperate search to recover it. Author Mary Connealy shares a nail-biting adventure with unforgettable characters, sweet romance, her trademark humor, and a wonderful faith element. As Cord and Annie search for physical treasure, they are also reminded that the greatest treasures are family, faith, and their spiritual relationship with God! Cord knows his feelings for the widowed Annie, but can she risk more pain and heartache?

I love this engaging story and the satisfying epilogue that provides updates on the Hart, MacKenzie, and Westbrook families. The hunt for the MacKenzie treasure reaches a fulfilling conclusion and these amazing characters realize that "true riches come from God alone."

Mary Connealy excels in writing romantic comedies set in the cowboy era. I recommend Riches Beyond Measure to all who enjoy historical Christian fiction!

Mary Connealy’s books are always loads of fun, and this one showcases her signature humor and wit. Riches Beyond Measure is the concluding book in her Golden State Treasure series. I suppose you could read this book on its own, but I would recommend reading the first two books first to get all the background story.

It was such a treat to spend some time with the characters from the first two books and to continue the treasure hunt with the people of Two Harts Ranch. Annie Hart Lane and Cord Westbrook are the stars of this book, and it was satisfying to have their story and see their relationship change and grow. Earthquakes, treasure hunting, suspense, action, and romance abound in this tale set in California in 1875.

Connealy’s a master at creating quirky, engaging characters and plopping them down in creative, intriguing plots. She then begins to extricate them from their problems and circumstances in amusing and unexpected ways. I always enjoy her books and heartily recommend them to those who like clean and wholesome historical fiction. 4.5 stars

Book three in a series that tends to overlap with another series, this has a bit of slow start, as it introduces everyone else and recaps what happened to them before really jumping into Cord and Annie's story. That can either be confusing for new readers or nostalgic for returning readers, but be prepared for the first several chapters to review before you get to the meat of the story.

This book has all the hallmarks of a Mary Connealy favorite--an eclectic cast, some mystery/intrigue (without it being the central focus or too graphic/intense), good chemistry between characters, and lots of sweet romantic moments between Cord and Annie. Other elements that aren't classic Connealy but are often favorites: lots of family (including found family and bossy brothers), Western fun (horse rides, ranching, etc.), and a second chance at love trope.

A good pick for fans of sweet/clean historical romance that doesn't get preachy but doesn't break biblical principles.

A rip-roaring satisfying conclusion to the series, filled with adventure, treasure-hunting, romance, and faith.

After an earthquake Cord and Annie find themselves swept into finding answers to what really happened to the mysterious Mackenzie treasure. Cord has dreams of buying his own ranch and has been working on Annie's ranch to save the money. He has admired Annie for a long time, and I liked how he is supportive of her and her daughter. Together he and Annie make a great team, as they search for answers and explore a future together.

Engaging read, with a lot going on and many familiar faces. It was great seeing things that were built up to come to fruition, in this exciting adventure. Caroline is so sweet, and I loved the relationship that she has with Cord and his grandfather.

A strong second chance romance, full of faith, adventure and treasure seeking. It was so nice to see everything come together in this well-worth-it conclusion!

This is the final book in the California State Treasure series. It would be helpful to read the first two books in the series as this continues the treasure hunt that was started in the first book. This book starts with an earthquake that shakes the earth violently and causes great crevices to open up in the earth. After the quake it is discovered that the treasure being stored at the ranch has been stolen. Cord and Annie have been skirting their attraction for each other for awhile. This is their story. In order for Annie to lead the treasure hunters, who are all men, she has to get married. As it would not be proper for her to be the only women. This was a good mystery that I enjoyed reading and would recommend.

I received this book from Bethany House Publishing via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. I was not compensated in any way.

Somehow a treasure hunt turned into so much more. The folks at Two Harts Ranch are ready to set out again after a few small finds at grandpa’s cabin. This time allowing Professor Hardy and his sidekick, Rombauer to join them, even though there is a real sense of distrust for these two. After all, what on earth could go wrong?

An earthquake can change many things. Add a little romance and life begins to look very different for Annie Hart Lane. Throw in a treasure hunt and you are not going to put this story down. An early copy of Gold State Treasure #3 was received through Bethany House Publishers, Baker Publishing Group and NetGalley. These impressions are my own and were in no way solicited.

Annie and Cord's story along with the community of Two Harts ranch.
Josh and Tilda's previous story (along with extended family that are questionable)
Brody and Ellie's (Ellie, Josh, Zane and Annie are siblings) 1st book in this series.
Zane and Michelle previous series now have baby Leah. (Michelle's siblings had a previous series).
Brody has younger brothers Thyane and Loch who are very interested in finding treasure of Grandpa MacKenzie. An Orphanage is where this tides together in California also along with earthquakes.

Treasure, gold, riches these words motivate people in different ways. What do you think for yourself. Besides the bible says to lay up treasures for heaven, where nothing will eat away your eternal home.

This is such a fitting end to the Golden State Treasure series by Mary Connealy! Eek! What an adventure! I dreamed about the story in the night. I felt as though I was along for the ride. As I read the story, every page felt like a new twist that kept me captivated. I've never felt an earthquake but felt like I lived through them while reading Riches Beyond Measure.

Mary Connealy is a master with adventure stories! I remember specific parts from almost every one of her books. I read a lot, so that says something!! I look forward to each new book from Connealy.

As the Mackenzie family continues to search for lost treasure, forces come against them that they never expect and with unbelievable ferocity. In this final installment of the Golden State Treasure trilogy, we learn more about Annie, whose husband was murdered, and her daughter, Caroline. When Annie agrees to help search for the treasure, she expects to be gone a few days and then return safely to Caroline. She never expects to be buried alive but that's exactly what happens! Will she ever see her sweet Caroline again? Or is her fate sealed?

A fun adventure filled ending to this series set in the heart of California in the later 1800's. This author always knows how to bring out the history of the era with unique characters, moments of faith and plots full of peril. A good old-fashioned western with clean romance and a mystery. Recommend reading in order of the series to understand what is going on, who people are and how they are connected. The author includes recaps that help fill in the blanks though. 4.5 stars

I really enjoyed this conclusion to the Gold State Treasure series. The MacKenzie brothers (Brody, Thayne, and Lock) want to continue the hunt for their grandfather's treasure with the help of the Hart family (which Brody's wife Ellie is a part of) and Cord Westbrook who has his grandfather's half of the map. Earthquakes and a shady professor make for plenty of adventure. Annie Hart Lane begins to wonder if after three years of widowhood she might be ready to move on. Will they find the treasure and perhaps also the best treasure of all? As usual, this book has plenty of adventure, a love story, faith, and some humor. I appreciated the epilogue that neatly tied up this series. I'm a bit sorry to leave this large, extended family. It would be a treat to have them appear in a future series. I received a complimentary copy of Riches Beyond Measure. All thoughts are my own.

Good ending to series

It was a real exciting read, you could almost see what they talked about and I frequently looked at maps trying to figure it out. I've been in area and grew up in California. I was going to attend Carrillo College in Santa Cruz area. I wonder if any of the his tip arts about the ship were true.

I like her books not so much the Christian thing about it, but they’re just clean how some love romances to deal with the western air a little bit of twist in each book which kind of gets me just something to clean the pallet from reading my heavy smut or fantasy round books
