The Missing Heir #3

Heaven's Leader

Rate this book
Arabella thought life would be simple—or at least simpler—once she learned how to use her powers as matriarch of the Heavens Clan. Instead she’s leading the front lines in a fight against a world-consuming entity doing things it’s not supposed to, while desperately trying to piece together a true alliance between clans more interested in increasing their personal power than saving the world. And the only clan she trusts, the Frost Clan, refuses to ally with Heavens unless they drop their desire to include more clans in the alliance. Not to mention coming to terms with the fact that she’s apparently going to marry the first guy she’s ever kissed.

Meanwhile, Luca, the second most powerful celestial guardian in existence, finally knows why he was born a seer. The Abyss is suddenly capable of things it could never do before. Planning schemes. Coming to Earth without detection. Possessing people. And, worst of all, dead set on killing the woman Luca loves. Now if only he could get her to look him in the eyes . . .

Amidst all this chaos, Arabella is still certain that she and Luca are better together, with or without their powers, and she’ll need all the support she can get to gather the allies she needs to stop the Abyss. Once she can untangle what, exactly, she feels for the confusing seer, that is.

Dive into this urban fantasy trilogy featuring a sweet, slow burn romance between the most powerful celestial guardian and the half mad seer who adores her, and meddling clan members determined to get them together.

I love the focus on family in this series, Ara has a really good relationship with her parents while Luca has a close relationship with Ruby and Kade. Of course, there are his cousins who will literally do anything for him. I laughed and nearly cried so many times for these characters, they all need hugs. I love the ending though I need the next story so bad! It's supposed to be about Cynthia and I am very excited. I think I liked this trilogy better then the previous one. But why are there so many good guy characters?!? I need stories for all these people!!

Okay, I’ve been very hard on this series as I’ve reviewed it, and possibly that’s not fair…though it has not been my favorite reading experience. I did want to finish it, and I am sort of so-so on reading the next series. I think it’s because I find the Enchanted Races so interesting. Eatough has come up with races that are original to her world. Her Enchanted Races are still hidden from the human world, which used to be the norm, but is now the exception. She’s just created a world I find myself wanting to know better. I’ve been less crazy about her characters and relationships though, and that’s what brings a story to life for me. That’s very much a me thing. But I can’t get past it in my response to a story. I had problems with aspects of the relationships in the first trilogy in this world, and unfortunately that continued in this trilogy, even though the specific relationships I had issues with and specific reasons for the issues are different. Things felt arbitrary rather than organic. Characters get slotted to be supportive of the heroine or not supportive, but there’s little reason for either position and when it comes time for someone to shift a position (or not) or for the heroine or someone supporting her to forgive a person (or not), there doesn’t seem to be much rhyme or reason to any of it. That sort of thing frustrates me and forces me to have to consciously suspend disbelief over and over again, and eventually either completely turns me off or leaves me sort of “meh”. I guess in this case I’m on the meh side of things, but I can’t say I’m anxiously awaiting the next trilogy, so I may be sliding toward turned off.

Review:

What a great conclusion to the trilogy! I loved seeing the progression of Arabella & Luca’s relationship so much! There were so many sweet and funny moments between the slight miscommunication at times as well as Luca’s forgetfulness for ‘normal’ relationship customs like going on dates. I also loved Arabella’s approach to interacting with her new spirit beast Snow, as well as a scene in the book with Snow and the other clans! It made things even more interesting than they already were seeing how the clans took to having to do human activities. 😂

I wish we learned more about what was going on with the Abyss’s new actions before the trilogy ended. But based off of what was said, I believe we’ll get those answers in a different trilogy (released sometime after this trilogy) at some point!

I am excited to go onto Cythia’s trilogy next (The Promised Legacy trilogy)! I loved what I saw of her in The Hidden Hotel trilogy as well as seeing her again during this one. I can’t wait to find out more about her and the odd relationship custom she’s in the middle of!

Summary:

Arabella thought her path was clear since she already knew the end goal from one of Luca’s visions, but apparently even knowing the future doesn’t come with guarantees. Now she has to find other clans to ally with while the one clan they knew they’d ally with in the future wants nothing to do with them or any other clan and hope for the best. And the Abyss certainly isn’t waiting for Arabella to get her affairs in order. But if that wasn’t stressful enough, Arabella’s feelings for Luca are up in the air with discovering that he’s known from a vision that they’d get married long before they’d ever met. And there is no way her dad isn’t about to put a stop to it if he were to ever find out…

Luca wished no one ever opened their mouth about his vision of being married to Arabella, because now she won’t even look him in the eye. And it’s already hard enough trying to let her know how he feels about her between his lack of practice interacting with people and her father trying to thwart any hint of romance with his daughter. Not to mention the Abyss causing problems left and right that Luca can’t track or know ahead of time. All Luca can do is wait and give his all to supporting Arabella in every step she takes.

The book was clean, only kissing.
•No profanity.
•Mild violence and death.
•unkind words

For some reason, even though Luca had a lot of quirks and strangely had to be fed, I liked his character.

There were a lot of characters, so it definitely kept my brain occupied.

Cons: Arabella dad is just ridiculously overreactive. I do feel like they should’ve been older college student age not barely high school‘s leading a clan (and the most powerful). That’s just unlikely.

this is less slow burn than the first series but still slow.

This book also reminded me so much of KM Shea

Fabulous

I really loved Arabella and Luca. All the blushing was adorable. Not to mention this trilogy felt more solid than the one about the hidden hotel. Although birth Telford were good, the tension and stakes were more real here. Also Ara is in more of a position to change things which i think will feed into the next trilogy. Overall, cute clean romance, family bonding, pointing out toxic behavior, and people being people both good and bad with Good vs. Evil. Smores, and movie nights. A great trilogy.

After action, celebration together

I love all Marie Bellmere's books because they are about the strength in unity. This story of how Ara and Luca and all the teams learn to fight the Abyss together is a satisfying ending to the trilogy. Now I'm looking forward to reading her next trilogy.

A looming threat. The struggle to prepare for it. Battle. Loss. Hope and worry. Excitement and dread. Family ties. Wonderful book!

This book was intense, and action packed, and full of so many good things. I really enjoyed how the story played out and how the trilogy ended.

I did quite enjoy this book. I do like the universe the author has created. I do think her characters are a bit flat and one dimensional. However, I did finish the series.

Content:

Profanity: None.

Violence: Mild. Most violence is to do with the Abyss, and possessions from said abyss.

Sexual: Mild. Hand-holding, kissing, hugs. There are a few mentions of things like 'not doing more before marriage' when a character starts dating seriously.

About a 3.5 or a touch less rounded up.

Okay, I had a hard time finishing this for some reason. I think it was just my mood. The vibe was so strong through this whole series with K.M. Shea's Court of Midnight and Deception that I admit I kept comparing the two and that made me enjoy this less than I might have otherwise. Mostly because I didn't care for the romance in this one. Sure, Luca is a sweetheart and Arabella is cute with him, but I couldn't get past Luca's kid-like traits that made it feel more like a mom caring for a child than two people falling in love. Do you know how many times Luca pouts because Arabella stops touching him or holding his hand? I lost count. But he literally pouts at her. Not exactly throwing romantic vibes off to me. I had struggles with the romance in Hidden Hotel too, for differing reasons, but both series have...immature romances, shall we say. (maybe it's a weakness of the author?)

But, I enjoyed the byplay of the clan of Celestial Guardians and how they finally come together (at least a little) and start getting along in the end. I was sad to not see Frost more, as I really liked Annika and Jett. But seeing Tempest and Pauline was great fun. Especially how she treats Clyde.

Romeo is still my favorite character, despite his constant snark that made things harder to be diplomatic at times. It felt a bit overdone and there just to make the other Celestial Guardians upset rather than something he'd actually do over and over and over.

So, I enjoyed the stories overall in this, but I don't think it's a re-read type book. I'll definitely keep reading in the world though, and knowing that Cynthia and the Sorcerers are next should be fun and interesting. (Even if I was hoping it would be the Beast Mongers).
