This story is so much fun! I loved how, yes it is a regency era story, but it was unique. The flow moved well. The characters are fun and relatable. If you want a fun, joyous, regency romance this would be a wonderful book to pick! All thoughts are my own.

After his “Mr. Collins” type proposal, Miles gets rejected by Grace. A year later they meet again and Miles is put in the awkward position of helping Grace find a match during the season. He starts off with good intentions but can’t handle Grace being with someone else. As he tries to sabotage the men, he accidentally causes disasters to Grace. I loved this story and I loved how many times Miles messed up. I did feel bad for him too though even though it was kind of funny. I liked how Miles eventually confessed to Grace. And I loved Grace’s character. She made some poor friend choices in the beginning but learned from that. I liked how she became great friends with Miles’s sisters. I also enjoyed Miles friends. This was a great second chance story and I definitely recommend!

A Trial of his Affections
(Bachelor’s of Blackstone’s Series; Book #2)
by: @authormindyburbidgestrunk

-I give 5 stars!⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

~Miles Yardley has spent years admiring the girl next door-only to find himself in an impossible predicament...

“Hold yourself with confidence, and no one will care much. It is when you fall to pieces over it that the gossips will start in on you.”

-A Trial of his Affections, is a lovely and unique clean regency story. It has endearing flawed characters that will wonder at times if duty is truly worth the cost of happiness, while also trying to decide if it is worth fighting for love regardless of the time, cost, or unfortunate circumstances along the way. Oh my goodness, this dear story will take you on quite an adventure with unrequited love, a dual POV, humorous but also unfortunate events, unpleasant suitors within society, and lots of swoony moments. It’s a story where I throughly could relate and sympathize with dear characters who really just want to be seen and belong. Along the journey of growth, they struggle to overcome their mishaps and realize their true feelings along the way. Even with hilarious plot twists and schemes within every outing or social scene, I loved how these dear characters still gracefully preserved and took courage. Even when well-meaning intentions go awry, there is still room to make things right, and overcoming them. Plus the addition eccentric Lord Blackstone again the disturbing but amusing animals of the club adds such a refreshing fun twist to this story to help things turn out just right. This is a great story worth reading my friends!🙌🏻📚❤️

“Never had anything felt so right. Never had she felt like she belonged as much as she did at that moment.”

•Content: death of a dear family member (in past), unpleasant gossipers, some scenes with drinking.

-I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from the author. All views expressed are only my honest opinion.

“Indeed, they were rather remarkable. Just like their love-slow to take root, uncertain at first, but steady—unfolding leaf by patient leaf.”

Sighworthy…

Entirely enjoyable, thought I wished there would have been a bit more kissing, the story was wonderful. I loved the unfortunate accidents and the humor at the end. I shall be walking on a few clouds for a while.

Miles offer of marriage is rejected, but he can’t forget Grace. When they connect again he is asked to help her navigate the season, but all he wants is for her to give him another chance.

The Debrief: Poor Miles! So this is like if Lucy Ricardo went to the regency time period and was a man. He accidentally gets himself into so much mayhem that I couldn’t stop laughing. Miles is a sweetheart with fumbling flirt and Grace is rightly confused. But his thoughtfulness continues to shine through and there is a sweet ending. His “hold yourself with confidence” quote was my favorite!

Miles had the best of intentions, but those go awry. Can Grace see past the failures and truly see if he’s her guy?

The Bachelor’s of Blackstone Series is so fun! Each can stand alone, but there are threads that feel like they can be pulled so enjoy. A bit of repetitive words, but I just loved Miles.

This was such a fun book! As the second book released in the Bachelors of Blackstone series it did not disappoint. A Trial of His Affections is a clean historical romance. Each bachelor in the series has challenges to overcome (including rejection from the other prestigious clubs) and as a result they join Blackstone’s club. Once the gentleman joins, he is taken under Lord Blackstone’s wing. (Let me tell you, learning about the club and its unique atmosphere is one of the best parts of the series!)

Miles Yardley has loved Grace Jenkins for a long time. After he inherits an estate and is secure in his future, he is ready to propose to Grace. Grace wants to marry for love, and therefore rejects Miles.

Eventually, Grace’s brother is able to sponsor her first season. Grace is seeking a titled Gentleman. Miles, his elder brother, and longtime friend come up with a plan to secure Grace’s notice and get her to see that Miles is the man for her.

A Trial of His Affections mashes together regency and the modern romcom. Mindy will have you laughing as Miles and Grace navigate the season, which could more accurately be called a comedy of errors.

I received a complimentary ARC from the author. All thoughts expressed in this review are my own.

Oh my goodness, the amount of "trials" in this book was crazy. Miles and Grace were such great characters. I was rooting for them the whole time. Grace is so sweet, yet has received poor advice that takes her in the wrong direction. Luckily some wonderful side characters finally steered her in the right direction. I loved Miles and Grace together. They were so comfortable and sweet together. There were some amazing secondary characters that I hope get their own stories. I would love to read about Fin, Freddy and Stan again.

definitely a good read

I enjoyed this regency romance. He proposes. She rejects him in a letter. He thought he told her he loves her when listing off the reasons they should marry. Unfortunately, he did not and that is why she rejected his proposal. A year later, his friends put him up to helping her meet a man to marry. They are unaware of his proposal to her and how awkward of a place that puts him.

3.5 ⭐️ This was cute and funny.

I kinda felt that being ‘blackballed’ and becoming part of Blackstone’s was thrown in there and didn’t have much bearing on the story, he didn’t even think of the club until at least 50%, I kinda wondered if the author already had this written and then re-wrote a few parts to fit in the series.

The “incidents” got a bit over the top for me, and parts of Grace’s change of mind near the end felt disingenuous. Maybe 3.5⭐️ for Miles’ attempt to redeem himself 🥹 Not bad but not my favorite

This book started very strong, got pretty boring, and ended OK. Once I got past the beginning, it felt like an absolute slog. I held on because the beginning was an interesting hook. However, I wouldn’t recommend. The characters thought processing was pretty basic, and it was like they were intentionally trying to misunderstand. Grace comes off kind of dumb. Miles proposes to you and you’re completely surprised that he has ulterior motives? I don’t know. I just don’t think that part of the story was developed well. The male unrequited love story is not super common in my reading history, so I was excited to see where that would go. It’s an average book. It was sweet how attentive miles is to Grace. He remembers she loves ferns, he buys gifts he knows she’ll love. That part could make a girl jealous.

Miles proposes to Grace in the opening chapter, but being an attorney, he focuses on the benefits of the union (think Mr. Collins in Pride and Prejudice). Grace is turned off as he never expresses his affection for her, and she has a shallow friend that convinces her that the younger son of an Earl will not advance her family enough. This is where Grace initially seems stupid. She is the daughter of a stable master, and she’s falling over herself to marry someone with a title. By the end, it appears the only person that gave her the impression that her family needed to marry so far up was her shallow friend who clearly had no access to Grace’s family’s finances. It is just bizarre. She put so much stock in her friend’s opinion. It does make sense if Grace is slow witted. However, the rest of the story doesn’t really support that conclusion. Miles thought that he had expressed his affection, so he flees to nurse his wounds. Grace’s older brother, Philip, takes Grace to London for this season. Philip has married up. (which is further confusing that Grace put so much stock in her friend’s opinion because Grace essentially was acting as if her sister-in-law should not have chosen Philip). Philip is good friends with Miles and asks him to introduce Grace to good bachelors. Grace becomes very reliant on Miles after learning that her friend had married up and was casting Grace aside. Miles is still in love with Grace, and listens to his bachelor brother, and concocts a stupid plan. He decides he will only introduce her to rude, terrible gentleman, so that Grace will choose Miles by process of elimination. Miles is obsessed with Grace, and in another stories would’ve been considered a stalker. He follows her on outings and tries to interfere to the other suitor’s disadvantage, but ends up embarrassing or hurting Grace each time. He got a monkey to throw poo at Grace, he tripped her with a cane, he knocked a squirrel out of a tree which fell on Grace, he knocked into a man who spilled his lemonade on Grace, and he knocks a footman into her ruining her hair. This was the part of the story that got really slow. There is also this side quest regarding Miles entering a club. Since the book was already boring, this just extended the pages.

Miles second guesses his plan as Grace is starting to view herself as a klutz and think poorly about herself because he has surrounded her with terrible men. He works up the courage to confess he was the cause of her disasters, but leaves for another day that he has only introduced her to terrible men. This was a mistake as before he can confess his plan, his sister spills the beans, knowing that these men are not friends with Miles. Grace assumes he was acting vindictively for refusing his proposal of marriage. That proposal is news to Philip. Miles explains the whole story to Philip. He shows Philip Grace‘s refusal letter. Philip immediately recognizes it as influenced by her former friend. Miles concludes the only way to make it right is to give up on pursuing Grace, and actually introduce her to good men. He starts with his two friends. Which is kind of awkward for them, because they know Miles loves Grace. Once Miles introduces her to those men, her anger subsides, and she realizes she loves Miles. She proposes to him under the guise of readdressing his previous proposal. He is over the moon, and the book ends with them getting married and he takes her to his estate where he is building a place for her to have an apothecary garden.

📚✨ BOOK REVIEW ✨📚
Title: A Trial of His Affections
Series: Bachelors of Blackstone
Author: Mindy Burbidge Strunk
Genre: Historical Romance
Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ (3.5 rounded up to 4)

📝 My Thoughts:
A Trial of His Affections lives up to its name🤭 and then some. It’s a romantic comedy of errors with enough charm, chaos, and emotional depth to make you laugh and swoon in equal measure. 💫💕

Miles Yardley has been quietly in love with Grace Jenkins for years, and now that he’s inherited an estate, he finally feels worthy of offering for her. But when the moment comes… he fumbles. Hard. 😅 Instead of professing his love, he delivers a dry, logical list of reasons they’d be a good match completely forgetting to tell her he loves her. 🤦🏻‍♀️😬💔

Grace, meanwhile, is preparing for a London Season, not to enjoy the delights of society, but to marry a lord. 👗👑 She believes it’s her duty to secure a title for her family’s future, though no one in her family ever asked her to do this. It’s a misguided burden she’s carried ever since a “friend” planted the idea long ago, a friend whose motives were far from pure. 🧐💼

When Grace asks Miles (yes, the man she just rejected) to help introduce her to eligible noblemen, things spiral hilariously out of control. 🤦‍♀️😂 Miles and his friends launch a desperate, underhanded (and often ridiculous) campaign to steer her toward the worst suitors possible. 🙈 Spoiler: it backfires in the most mortifying and delightful ways. 💥🎭

Each outing becomes another step in a series of unfortunate events, stained gowns 👗🍋🍸, a titus haircut ✂️😳, and one completely unhinged monkey scene that had me laughing so hard I had to reread it. (Was it realistic? Who knows. Was it hilarious? Absolutely. 🐒💥)

That said, the story did drag in a few places, some pacing dips slowed the momentum. 🐢 But when something happened, it really happened, and the payoffs were always worth the wait. ⏳ That’s why I gave it a 3.5 stars, rounded up to 4. ⭐✨

Despite the chaos, Grace remains the picture of - well - grace. 💖 She navigates embarrassment, heartbreak, and pressure with strength and quiet dignity. And Miles, bless him, is a loyal disaster of a man doing his best. 🥺💘 His guilt, his awkwardness, his steady love, it all made me root for him even when I wanted to shake him. 🤯💞 And beneath all the missteps, there’s a genuinely touching story about choosing love over expectation. 💍❤️

🌟 One of my favorite parts? The supporting cast! Every character brought personality and texture to the story. 🌈🫶 And for fans of the author’s world: there’s a brief mention of the Duke of Larmont (“Rags”) from the series The League of Eligible Bachelors and a little easter egg moment with Colonel Halstead from Book 1 of this series. I love a good crossover, and these nods made my romance-reader heart happy. 🥹📖💘

🔖 Favorite Quote:
“Perhaps neither of you showed yourselves at your finest,” Lord Stanhope said. “But beneath the missteps, the truth is plain you love each other. Were it otherwise, he would have let you go, and you would not have fought so hard to remain his.” 💬💘

📌 Final Verdict:
A heartfelt, hilarious, and sweet Regency romance packed with missteps, monkey business, and slow-burn longing. 🐒🔥 If you love your heroes slightly clueless but devoted 🧡, your heroines strong but vulnerable 🌹, and your plots served with equal parts heart and havoc, this is a gem worth picking up. 💕🫖

This second book in the Bachelors of Blackstone’s is such a sweet story that had so many great parts to it! I could not get enough!!

From laugh out loud moments, to feeling embarrassed for Miles, sad for Grace, and wanting to help Grace open her eyes to what was in front of her the whole time! I loved seeing how Mindy wrote Lord Blackstone’s character and the continuation of his influence for these Bachelors.

Grace Jenkins has it in her mind that she must raise her family’s social status and marry a man of title, though what she really desires for herself is a love match. She trusted the wrong woman to help her with her first Season, and when she realizes she needs someone who will actually follow through on their promises, she turns to the one man she rejected, Miles Yardley.

Miles Yardley is besotted with his neighbor, Grace Jenkins. After his proposal is turned down, he removes himself from Somerset with the hopes of distancing himself from her. Only, plans don’t go as he wishes and he is asked to help Grace in London society and introduce her to Gentlemen of title.
Miles turns to his brother and friend to help with his situation. Their ill advice puts Miles in a predicament he doesn’t think will ever be forgiven by his love.

Miles introduces Grace to several men of title, though they are sharp tongued and unkind. They show Grace that a title does not mean respectability.
Through a series of “incidents” Miles feels more and more guilty of his ill advised plan and seeks to make amends. Will he be forgiven for the mistakes he’s made when Grace trusted him? Or in the end will she find herself married to a man of title?

Stand out moments for me:
Mr. Collin vibes (at the beginning) 💍
The menagerie 🐒
The theater
Mr. Blackstone’s club meeting with Freddie and Fin 🐢🐐
The ride in Rotten Row 🐿️
The spilled ink 🖋️
Grace’s love of Ferns 🪴
The musicale
The British Museum
Miles sisters
Mr. Blackstone’s conversation
with Miles 🦩
Philip and Miles’s conversations
The sweet epilogue

Before I begin, I would like to thank Mindy Burbidge Strunk for allowing me to read a copy of her new book, A Trial of His Affections, which is part of the multi-author Bachelors of Blackstone’s series and is available on Amazon starting May 14th, 2025.

Miles Yardley has always been smitten by the girl next door. Now that he has an estate, he finally can have something to provide for a potential suit with Miss Grace Jenkins. The problem? She’s preparing to leave for her first Season, and nothing short of a title meets her requirements for a husband. Worse still, she asks him to introduce her to gentlemen who meet this criteria. He and his friends form a plan to make her realize that Miles is the person she needs, but it backfires spectacularly. Now he’s blacklisted from every club except Blackstone’s. Grace was never raised to be part of the upper class, but she now needs to marry someone with a title to boost her family’s status. With mishaps galore, Grace wonders if her duty is worth losing a love with the man that’s been there all along. Similarly, Miles has to decide if he’s ready to fight for Grace even if that means letting her go.

This book was fantastic. You have Grace Jenkins, a kind, earnest, determined, intelligent, and beautiful young woman that wants to help her family by securing a titled husband and adores ferns. You have Miles Yardley, a clever, thoughtful, sweet, and handsome young man who is a talented lawyer dedicated to his loved ones and pines for Grace. The interactions between the two main characters were funny, sweet, and earnest. I love how their friends and family were shipping them even to the point of his friends hatching a scheme to help his romantic pursuit. The incidents were funny and I wanted to give both Grace and Miles a hug. It was great seeing the main characters grow more confident in themselves and figure out what they wanted. Overall, if you like plotting, ferns, complex characters, found family, and sweet unrequited love/ neighbors romance with low spice, then I highly recommend it.

I don’t think I have ever seen someone mess up a proposal like Miles Yardley did with Grace Jenkins in A Trial of His Affections. I wasn’t surprised when she rejected him. This event is the catalyst that leads Miles to one mishap after another that really kept me laughing through the whole book.

A year after the disastrous proposal Grace is to have her first Season in London. She is determined to marry someone with a title to help her family gain more esteem in society. Miles is not happy when his brother tells Grace that Miles will help her. How? By introducing her to titled gentlemen during the season. Miles just can’t say no.

His brother and friends devise a plan to put Miles in a better light by only introducing Grace to not the best of gentlemen. What could possibly go wrong … a lot!

Miles is loyal and wears his love for Grace on his sleeve that everyone sees, except for Grace. Even through all his mishaps and guilt you know he is only trying to protect Grace from his brother and friends’ concocted plan. He tries so hard but can’t seem to keep the unfortunate events from happening. I kept hearing myself say, “Oh no!” Grace bears everything with her head held high with ultimate society dignity. She is strong and determined to do her family right but through these mishaps, Grace slowly begins to see what she really wants.

I was rooting for Miles and Grace even from the poor proposal, through all the mishaps, and the tender moments mixed throughout! I love all the side characters too – I hope to see them in future stories! A Trial of His Affections is a must read!

Some of my favorite things: The rejected proposal, the monkey, the walking stick, the hair, the true friends, the meddling sisters, and her fascination with ferns.

- Regency romance
- Charming MMC
- Sweet & dutiful FMC
- Neighbors
- Witty banter
- Unrequited love
- Second chance
- He falls first

Happy reading!

Grace Jenkins and Miles Yardley are endearing characters in this latest book by Mindy Burbridge Strunk. It is the second book of the Gentleman of Blackstone Series. They have a few flaws that made me like them even better! Miles has been rejected by Grace after a proposal! Grace wants to marry a titled gentleman to lift the status of her family. A year after the failed proposal Miles finds that Philip, Graces brother wants him to help them by introducing gentleman to Grace to find her a husband when they are in London for the Season. This is the worst scenario possible! He still loves Grace. This starts with the launch of Miles introducing a gentleman that he knows will not do unless it is only the title Grace wants. Each time Grace is invited to spend time with someone, Miles is close by to make sure the gentleman is not seen in the best light. Miles really wants her to choose him. Incidences happen that find Grace embarrassed and cutting the activities short. Miles is right there to rescue her while feeling guilty for causing the incident to even happen. Grace sees him as the hero while Miles feels like a fool for starting this whole mess. This journey in finding love is hilarious and a true page turner. Surprises and endearing gifts are given to Grace and not knowing why. You will enjoy with great pleasure seeing the common element with a monkey, a squirrel, cup of lemonade, an ink well and walking stick. This book shows finding love does not have to come with title and the generous soul of Miles giving his whole heart to win Graces heart.
One of my favorite quotes of the book: “If you are fortunate to fall in love with a man of title,” Elle cut through Grace’s thoughts, “then all the better. But you need not cast aside someone without a title—a gentleman who might truly make you happy—just for a misguided notion.” A 5 star in my opinion and highly entertaining!

What a sweet Regency romance! I really felt for both of the main characters and enjoyed getting to visit Blackstone again!
I really felt for Grace. She was trying so hard to do the right thing for her family. She felt the pressure to raise their standing and believed that marrying a lord was the only way to do that. She was very new to London society and aware of its dangers. Grace felt her family’s position keenly and it was so strongly in her mind. She tried so hard to be an ideal lady and was quite influenced by those she saw as above her and her family. I admired the way she persevered after so many accidents and problems. At times I felt like she was a bit oblivious, but I loved how she started to see things more clearly as the book progressed. I also loved how her brother and sister-in-law were so involved and caring towards her, even as Ellie also was someone who could speak truthfully with her.
Oh Miles, he kept getting himself deeper into a hole! When we first met him, he seemed a little awkward, but he really was so sweet. I loved his willingness to help and his thoughtfulness. He really cared about Grace and even though his plans seemed to always go awry, he really wanted to help her. I felt so bad for him as things constantly went wrong! It was sweet to see him try to take care of things though, I loved his relationship with his sisters and his brother was pretty hilarious!
The story moved along easily with lots of fun scenes! I enjoyed seeing Miles and Grace’s friendship grow as they truly got to know one another and saw more of each other’s character. I loved their siblings and it was hilarious to see the Blackstone club again! This is a historical romance with only kissing.
I received an ARC.

This was a fun story that kept me captivated with the main characters. The Second book in this Bachelors of Blackstone's Series will take you on quite a journey of mishaps as Grace Jenkins has a London Season. Her admirer Miles Yardley was a neighbor, friend of her brother and the man whose proposal she had rejected last year. Grace believed it was her responsibility to raise their family's status by marrying a titled gentleman. Grace's family had no idea that Miles had proposed so they had asked him to help introduce her to respectable gentleman.

Miles Yardley is a barrister, second son of an earl and he had inherited an estate. When he is asked to help Grace during her season, his brother Freddie comes up with a plan that will help her see Miles in a better light. The plan is to introduce her to gentlemen that are disagreeable so she won't be interested in them. Miles is driven to be at each event that Grace has with one of her suitors causing unplanned havoc. Grace has a disaster at each outing with a potential suitor that leaves her believing it is her fault. Ripped gowns, unexpected animal attacks and things being spilled on her leaves her humiliated. At each event Miles comes to her rescue.

Miles wants to reveal the sordid truth to Grace but is afraid she will reject their growing friendship. His scheme is also starting to impact his reputation as he is blackballed at Brook's and he is invited to become a member of Blackstone's club.

Will Miles and Grace survive the Season and can they go from friends to a relationship if she discovers all that he has done?

Each story in this series is probably a stand alone but Edward Halstead from the previous book is mentioned as being at the club. John Aubin who will be in the next book in the series is briefly introduced.

I received a copy of this book from the author and this is my honest unbiased review.

What trials he endures!

Starting with a bungled proposal to rival Mr. Darcy or Mr. Collins, Miles is sure he will win Grace's hand. But there is a viper in the nest, and Grace is just unsure enough of herself and her place in society that she rejects him... by letter. Rude!

But now, in London for the season, Miles, on the advice of his friends, will promote titled men to her notice that make him look good and her regret her refusal. But oh, calamity of calamities! What follows are some of the most embarrassing, ridiculous, and insulting scenarios. Miles is always there and appearing the steady friend when he is actually fighting how guilt-ridden he is for semi-authoring Grace's series of unfortunate events. Sweet Miles pines for nearly the whole story while just hoping for a moment that Grace will see him differently.

Expect equal amounts of angst and silliness, with the ever-present Lord Blackstone coming in to offer some fatherly advice and scare the wits out of prospective members with his menagerie of taxidermied animals. He plays a relatively minor role in this story compared to some of the others, but his eccentric ways and his rescue of blackballed gentlemen is consistent and enjoyable as always.

I enjoyed this sweet Regency romance!

To say his proposal to Grace was a disaster is a bit of an understatement. Mike’s, the second son, is an untitled but successful barrister, who is in love with his best friend’s sister…he just forgot to tell her that in presenting the idea of marriage to her. Yikes.

When Grace is convinced by a snooty peer to turn down the proposal simply because of the lack of title, she will set her sights on that very target, regardless of the man who holds it.

A year later Miles is enlisted to aid Grace in her London season and quest for a titled marriage…but instead is convinced by his brother and friends to subtly push Grace back to him…and it couldn’t go more wrong. Does title make the man? Or will Miles finally find a place he belongs (and a woman to love) title or not?

This multi-author project is fabulous. The foundational use of blackballing as the social construct for the romantic stories is lovely. Mindy does an extraordinary job of capturing the lives of the upper middle class of society, rather than the elite as we typically see in this era. I had to look up terminology and fashion styles and it was a gorgeous way to wander through these pages.

A Trial of His Affections was the first book that I have read from this author and I thoroughly enjoyed it! It makes me excited to read more books from this author and more books in this series. Some of my favorite things about the book:

-The Characters: Miles was very likeable. He made some mistakes and had some setbacks but it made him seem more realistic. I kept pulling for him even when he didn't make good decisions. He was my favorite character in the book. Grace was likable as well. While I didn't love that she only wanted to marry a titled gentleman she was smart enough to not just settle for anyone.

-The Witty dialogue and banter: Miles's conversations with his brother Freddie and his friend Fin were really funny. It was some of the best dialogue that I have read in a while. The conversations made me smile and sometimes laugh out loud.

-The mishaps: The mishaps in the story were fun. They gave the story a unique twist and made it feel different from other books with similar plots.

I did feel like the book was a little long but it was a fun read!

I was given a free advanced copy of the book but all the opinions are my own.

Historical fiction full of hilarious mishaps

I really enjoyed this one! From the very beginning Miles was giving off major Mr Collin’s vibes with his proposal and unsurprisingly he was rejected after his abysmal failure at securing Grace’s hand in marriage.
After some time has passed they meet up again in London and Miles is asked to help introduce Grace to society which is basically the worst thing for him because he is still very much in love with her.
After some bad advice Miles decides to introduce her to a list of horrible men to make himself look better. Which causes so many mishaps for poor Grace and Miles isn’t sure how to fix all the damage he has caused.
Miles has good intentions but definitely not good luck, but will Grace see him for who he really is and choose love and happiness or will she forever keep her goal of an advantageous match?
I would definitely recommend this one. Plenty of lol moments and sweet moments too. I’m excited for the rest of this multi author series. This one definitely doesn’t need to be read in order there is no overlap in storylines

The ferns…

“But ferns, he’d come to learn, are anything but common. They were resilient, enduring, and capable of thriving and overlooked places.”

Poor Miles, everything about his life has just gone poorly. All he wants is to be with Grace. All she wants is to find a kind, titled gentleman to help her family. Mile and Grace had so many fun accidents and misunderstandings, but it worked out so well. You feel so bad for Miles but there’s also enough humor in the incidents too. I loved the new insights into Blackstone's and I could not stop giggling when his friends came.

“Never had anything felt right. Never had she felt like she belonged as much as she did at that moment.”

A trial of his affections was aptly named. Poor Miles is in love with Grace, but Grace has different goals in life.

Poor Miles dejected and desperate takes the advice of his brothers about catching Grace’s attention. Really horrible advice that went much more off the rails than anyone could have anticipated.

Grace has taken on the burden of marrying well to profit her family, but her London season is going abominably. She is all her name implies and accepts chaotic circumstances with Grace and dignity.

I loved these two characters and the growth they had as they tried to find their way and their path in life. Each mishap had me feeling sorry for both of them and wondering when things would turn for the good. The ending was just what I’d hoped it would be. This was a lovely regency novel and a fun addition to the Bachelor’s of Blackstone series.

This is book 2 in the Bachelor’s of Blackstone’s series. Poor Grace and Miles really hit the nail on the head with the miscommunication trope on this one. His plan has pure intentions but as soon as he formulates it, you just know it’s not going to play it like he thinks it is. And Grace lives up to her name with everything that happens to her. Her love of ferns is really endearing to her personality and really makes her stand out as different in the world around her. Of course Blackstone’s club is back with all the animals and I love Miles’s friends reactions to them. You get a brief appearance from the MC of book 1 and the connection Miles has with him. The pining in this book Miles goes through is hardcore and it makes you feel a little bad for him, even with all his missteps. I can’t wait for the rest of the books to see who is featured and what unfolds.

I loved watching the growth of the two main characters as they struggled to overcome their mishaps and realize their true feelings. Although, I found it hard to believe that Miles could have inadvertently caused so many accidents, they were hilarious and poor Grace handled them with, well, grace. Grace’s fascination with ferns intrigued me so much, I even ended up looking up the difference between some of the ferns mentioned. Miles thoughtfulness in the gifts and excursions for Grace showed his love for her (even if some were motivated by guilt.) Their happy ending was a relief and joy to read. Thanks to the author, I received a complimentary ARC, with no obligation to post a positive review.

What a sweet and wonderful story!

Poor Miles. He’s a bit of a bumble head when it comes to Grace. His heart was in the right place but my boy was constantly making things worse lol.

I loved Grace’s journey. She never felt seen or good enough, although Miles always saw her. Feeling like the future of her family was her responsibility she was determined to make an advantageous match. Only a title would do.

“Her Season had to be a success because it was up to her to bring respectability and stability to her family.”

An ill conceived plan to introduce Grace to the “worst” suitors. Hilarious mishaps ensue.

Through all the mishaps, Grace held herself just as her name implies. She held herself gracefully and pressed on.

Highlights:
🌿The monkey
🌿The ferns
🌿The sisters

A beautiful journey of self-discovery. Realizing your own worth. Discovering true friendship. Finding joy. Deepening connections.

Thank you to Mindy Burbidge Strunk for the copy. All opinions are my own.

a little annoying

This series is written by different authors so you can't judge one by the others. This 2nd in the series I found to be very annoying in general. The H constantly causing problems for the h. It ended ok of course, but it was hard to get past the ridiculous "accidents"

I have enjoyed other books from this author, just this one wasn't a favorite.

The other Blackstone series have been fairly good so far (1&3).

I don't feel you have to read all the stories in this series if you don't want. Their only tie is the Blackstone club so missing one won't cause a break in the story.
