Love the food photos, photos and more food photos all in the same wooden bowl!
Yes, I’m always looking for easy low-carb/high protein ideas, but at the same time I’m always a little dubious about 5-ingredient recipes (or any particular amount!). I mean, what really distinguishes them from my various go-to’s, such as standing in front of the fridge and stacking pickles between various types of deli meats with a squirt of mustard and calling it a day? Do we really need a cookbook for this, friends, let alone an entire canon devoted to the genre?
Apparently so, because I keep buying them (mostly to look at the pictures, and occasionally give something a shot in the real world otherwise known as my kitchen). Now there’s plenty here that caught my eye from the basics (Creamy Avocado Herb Dressing, Garllicky Lemon Aioli) to the more exotic (Spicy Taco Beef Soup, Asian Sesame Salmon Salad). The pictures are drool-worthy and cleverly composed using what looks like the same wooden bowl that just seems to work throughout. And you get one with every recipe, along with prep and cook times and macros.
Better yet the chapters open with a full size photo of an easy dish pulling together a couple of ideas (Chimichurri Grilled Steak with Roasted Veggies). While that makes a bit of a work around on the aforementioned 5-ingredient claim, if you meal prep thoughtfully and do some of the components in advance this could work in any variety of dishes (Garlic Butter Steak Bites with Zucchini, Beef and Broccoli Stir Fry) later in the week.
All in all a handy and delicious volume that makes good on its promise with well-organized shopping lists and meal plans that gets to be a keeper in my ridiculous cookbook collection.
