Memorable Quotes: I decided to go with scissors again and my dad had switched to paper. I won the round, which meant I was the one in the first photo of the trip. It felt quite fitting, seeing as this summer at Blackbird would be a big milestone for me—I was turning eighteen.
Gavin playfully put his arm around my shoulder and asked, “You ready for your birthday show?” “You know it!” I called out and then leaned back on my hands to get a better view of the sky. Connor shot Gavin an inquisitive look. “We’ve always teased her because when she was little, she thought the firework show was literally for her birthday,” Gavin told Connor with a smile. Connor laughed and I playfully backhanded Gavin in the stomach.
My rating: ⭐️⭐️½ 🏖🎆💘
My thoughts: 🔖Page 23 of 317 [Chapter] 4 - This is nice but I'm going back to my other book. This story is relaxing, I'm in the mood for drama.
🔖43 [Chapter] 7 - This is a bit too smooth like a 90s Disney Channel Original movie, where's the drama?
🔖68 [Chapter] 11 - It has become a little dull and over the will they won't they and looming triangle.
🔖90 [Chapter] 14 - Tomorrow I'm gonna have to decide to go ahead and give this book all my attention so I can finish it or pause it so I can read something else and come back. It seems to go up and down, and I can't maintain interest.
🔖156 [Chapter] 23 - Not much is going on I'm still waiting for the credits to roll (title of the book), there's no danger of a triangle if you can't seal the deal with the first guy. I'm mainly stopping because I need to get up early, I was on a roll but I feel like not much has changed in the last 10 chapters.
🔖189 [two pages into Chapter] 27 - I'm over it but I do want to finish. MC uses "oh um" too much and I think this kiss is never going to happen and the lack of transparency is creating a terrible triangle.
🔖225 [Chapter] 33 - I considered abandoning ship as this isn't for me, but another book set in Alaska made me miss LC and her "ums," so I'm going to finish. Can I just say, girl what? He's been at college for 2 years and was unaware of your interest until a few weeks ago, are you 18 or 12?
It was okay. This isn't my style of story, so I knew it wasn't going to be higher than a 3 halfway through. It's kinda like YA but doesn't read like YA, I had a hard time labeling the genre and it wasn’t listed on Goodreads by the publisher or anything, it's not exactly a romance although the plot centers around a blossoming romance. There was a lot of repetition, the MC thinks "butterflies" 47 times. I think she made a lot of poor choices even for her age group, but she was inexperienced and naïve for a 17-year-old so I'll give her a pass on that. I didn't like either of the boys, they were gray characters which is realistic but also made it hard for me to see what MC saw. I'm assuming this will be a series.
Recommend to others: I'm not sure. It needed more sunshine for my taste but others loved it.
