Author, Kristian Erickson was confidant to Pastor Donald Lee Barnett and an inner-circle leader of Community in Chapel and Bible Training Center, located between SeaTac International Airport and Normandy Park, south of Seattle.
In 2020 Erickson was branded as a dissident, an enemy of God, because he published French Kissing in an American Cult. In the following years, inquisitive readers asked him for more details about what caused this Pentecostal megachurch to collapse in such graphic scandals that they became the grist of supermarket tabloids, newspapers, and local and national TV news.
Pastor Barnett taught that “dancing before the Lord” and “spiritual connections” (spending time kissing and snuggling others’ spouses) were the Holy Spirit’s working to prepare for Jesus’ return to the earth. Such connections resulted in thousands of divorces amidst pregnancies and abortions.
This book, Revised & Reviled is an expanded history of that collapse. Kristian Erickson hopes that this exposé will enable others to avoid the traps that are modern-day versions of the ones that swallowed him.
After two decades in Chapel leadership, he managed to escape its grip. And then he reclaimed his status as an idealist while being nourished again by the grandeur of the Cascades and Olympics of Washington and the wildernesses of the Great Land, Alaska.
