Mohammad Asif, writing as Thinker Mindset, is the author of The Focus Equation — a practical guide to reclaiming attention, eliminating distraction, and building a focus-friendly life.

Thinker Mindset began with a quiet but powerful belief: that the right idea at the right moment can shift a person’s entire day — or even their life. It’s not about hype or hustle. No loud advice. No pretending to be perfect. Just real thoughts, shared in real time — from someone still figuring things out.

Inspired by the bold simplicity of minds like Steve Jobs and the clarity of thinkers like Cal Newport, Thinker Mindset helps creative people cut through the noise and live with intention — especially those who’ve read books like Atomic Habits or Deep Work but still feel stuck.

The Focus Equation is the first in a series of short, smart books that explore life’s essential ideas — from focus and discipline to money, purpose, and personal power.

Thinker Mindset is more than a name — it’s an ecosystem. Alongside the books, there’s a weekly newsletter (Unthink the Obvious), a blog, a podcast, and an ongoing conversation with readers who want less noise and more clarity.

The motto is simple: Think deeply. Act simply.

If you’re building something meaningful — or just trying to stay focused in a chaotic world — Thinker Mindset is a space designed for you.

Okay, real talk: I didn’t expect much when I picked up The Focus Equation. I’ve read so many productivity books that just repeat the same stuff—wake up early, make a list, hustle harder blah blah. But this one? It hit different.

What I loved most is that it doesn’t try to force some rigid system down your throat. It’s written in a super friendly, almost conversational tone, and it actually feels like the author gets what it’s like to be constantly distracted, overwhelmed, or stuck. The real-life stories (especially the one with Sarah in the intro) made me feel seen.

The book breaks down focus into 21 short, really practical "secrets." And honestly? Most of them are the kind of things that are easy to miss but super effective once you try them. Like setting up zones in your workspace, doing a weekly reset, using visual motivation, or just taking movement breaks without guilt.

The “Reflect and Adjust Periodically” rule was probably my favorite. It reminded me that staying focused isn’t about grinding endlessly—it’s about checking in with yourself and making little course corrections.

Also, the layout and structure are clean. You can jump around, pick what you need, and apply it without reading cover to cover (although I did read it all, and it was worth it).

Bottom line? If you’ve ever found yourself staring at your to-do list and then suddenly watching YouTube cat videos for an hour... this book is for you. It’s not preachy. It’s not over-complicated. It’s just smart, helpful, and surprisingly calming.

I got "The Focus Equation" for my 13‑year‑old because staying focused has been a real challenge lately, especially with schoolwork and, well, you got, screens everywhere!!! I wasn’t sure if this book would actually help, but it turned out to be surprisingly useful. What I liked is that the book doesn’t blame kids for not having “willpower.” Instead, it explains how their environment affects their focus, and it gives simple steps to fix it. My kid tried a few tips right away , like cleaning up the workspace, limiting distractions, and setting up the desk better , and it made a noticeable difference.

Some parts of the book felt a little repetitive, but the advice is clear, practical, and easy for a young teenager to understand. It gave us both helpful ideas without feeling overwhelming.

This is the book I wish I had 5 years ago. The portfolio management approach, giving each business quarterly strategic focus while teams handle tactics, has freed up so much mental space. I can finally think about new opportunities instead of firefighting. If you're running multiple companies, get this.

Thinker Mindset’s “The Focus Equation: Take Back Your Stolen Focus and Master Deep Work While Building Atomic Habits and Achieving Hyper Focus Without Willpower” is the ambitious-sounding title of a book that basically shows readers how to become more productive by creating a workspace that will allow them to avoid distractions and stay focused. It claims to use 21 neuroscience-backed strategies to achieve its goals but, realistically, most of what is written could be attributed more to common sense than evidence-based research.

“The Focus Equation” is reasonably well-written and might help inexperienced workers get off to a quicker start on their road to productivity. Experienced workers, however, probably started using many of the techniques explained in the book long before anyone perceived the need for a book on how to stay focused in one’s workspace.

For a book that proposes ways to avoid distractions and stay focused, it is ironic that the book is itself distracting in its need for tighter editing and formatting, use of different fonts, and full-chapter description of the reason for and process by which readers can get a free copy of the book’s audio companion. One might argue that more willpower was required to produce a book whose main premise was negated by the book’s many distractions.

“The Focus Equation” may sound like more than it really is. Fortunately, it really is a nice guide to streamlining a workspace as a means to increasing productivity.

The book’s title may sound algebraic. However, the book’s contents appear to be basic math.

I’ve read Deep Work and Atomic Habits multiple times. Both helped me but always left me with more questions than answers.

Deep Work told me why focus matters, but not how to survive in a world designed to steal it. Atomic Habits gave me a system, but not a mindset.

The Focus Equation is the missing link between them.

Where Cal Newport gives you theory, and James Clear gives you structure, Thinker Mindset, gives you clarity on your attention, your choices, and your values. It’s like the brutally honest friend who sits you down and says: “Here’s what’s really keeping you distracted.”

There’s no fluff. No ego. No productivity porn. Just straight-up awareness bombs that made me rethink how I use my time and more importantly, why.

One line hit me hard: “You don’t need more apps. You need less noise.”
That alone changed how I start my day.

If you’ve ever felt like you’re reading all the right books and still staying stuck, The Focus Equation might be the book that actually unsticks you.

Highly recommend for anyone who’s tired of “hacking their habits” and ready to finally reclaim their focus.

Work Smarter, Not Harder: A Practical System that Works

“The Focus Equation” by Thinker Mindset offers a refreshing change of pace from the usual productivity advice, focusing not on us but on our environment. Rather than preaching discipline, this book offers a systems-based approach that seems both real and sustainable. The author recommends 21 practical, easy-to-implement strategies based on neuroscience-backed insights. Readers routinely point out the ways they noticed changes in focus and productivity even with small things, such as decluttering, improving workspace lighting, or creating structure around their routines. The writing is tight and simple, devoid of any fluff so one can easily understand the concepts if they are new to productivity. What I like the most is that instead of trying to spend more effort, it bills as reducing friction. In a world brimming with digital distractions, this tactic empowered many readers. If you are an avid reader some of the ideas may seem known, however, the structured framework makes a lot of sense. In the end, this is an actionable and very motivational guide to anyone struggling with focus in today's distractions-heavy age.

I’ve always struggled with focus, especially in a world full of constant distractions, so this book really spoke to me. The Focus Equation breaks down why staying focused feels so hard—and more importantly, what you can actually do about it.

What I appreciated most is that the advice doesn’t rely on willpower alone. Instead, the book emphasizes small, practical changes like shaping your environment, reducing decision fatigue, and building habits that naturally support deeper focus. The strategies are easy to understand and simple to try, which made it feel approachable rather than overwhelming.

This isn’t about doing everything perfectly; it’s about creating systems that make focus easier and more sustainable. I’ve already started applying a few ideas and noticed small but meaningful improvements in how I work and stay on task.

If you struggle with distractions, mental overload, or staying consistent, this is a very helpful and encouraging read.

The Focus Equation by Thinker Mindset is a practical personal development book that offers a system-focused solution to the attention-grabbing structure of the modern world. The book is shaped around the idea I observed based on the author’s personal experiences: success does not come from trying harder, but from consciously designing your environment, habits, and systems. The writing style is simple and motivating. I find it successful that instead of imposing a rigid system, it offers flexible and adaptable suggestions. I especially appreciate low-barrier, easy-to-apply practices such as the “Weekly Reset Ritual,” the “3 Box Method,” the “20-20-20 Rule,” and “Periodic Reflection.” Overall, I think The Focus Equation is an accessible and motivating guide for individuals who struggle with distractions, have difficulty dealing with digital stimuli, and are just beginning to work in a more structured and system-based way.

This book os full of ideas for maintaining focus and completing tasks. I highlighted many of them as I read.
I have already implemented the Polomdoro technique in my own life but didn't know that was what it was called.
The section on your surroundings was very interesting because it talks about Einsteins cluttered workspace but I couldn't focus at all in that setting and the author agrees it isnt best for getting stuff done. Clearing the clutter is a great way to stay focused. The author also mentioned movement breaks so you get your circulation flowing and get your brain re-energized.

Most of these ideas for maintaining focus are simple to implement and I should do anyway...like massively unsubscribing to emails that are just clutter.

This was really a short easy read that I enjoyed and I think anyone who is interested in the topic of focus will enjoy.

I loved this book. It had great ideas for getting organized and getting into a more focused mindset. I was getting so distracted every day while trying to write, and I have made a few changes and am already getting so much more done in a day.
I plan to make more of the changes in the weeks to come, and I know it will help even more. Who knew such simple things as lighting could make such a big difference? It also comes with a free audio version, which was amazing. I also believe that this author really wants to help people with this book, as he offers ways to contact him with questions. I thought that it was so personal and made me believe in him.
I highly recommend this book to everyone looking to get more productivity in your day.

This was a very helpful book with a lot of great ideas. The core theme is that the focus is not the result of willpower, it is the result of architecture. There are 21 “secrets” that detail how to set up a space to work where you will be able to focus, and although I haven’t tried them all, the ones I have tried have definitely helped quite a bit! Clearing out clutter, paying attention to the lighting, even your chair and your desk itself can have a positive or negative effect on your ability to focus. While some of the ideas (“secrets”) involve more effort and prep time than others, there are quite a few that are virtually effortless to implement.
And, as a bonus, the author offers a free audiobook version for anyone who purchases the ebook!

This is a book is a very practical, easy. It has easily doable actions that can transform lives. I could relate to so many things written in this book. Structure of the book very done, kudos. Couple of incidents from real life adds to authenticity and builds instant connection to the chapter and it's content. Wonderful quote beginning chapter is so apt and relevant.
Focus/concentration is more than needed ever due to social media overload.
I recommend this book to everyone.

I'll be honest, this book The Focus Equation frustrated me at first. It felt too blunt. Not polished. It doesn't give you a neat 12-step system or a cute acronym to remember.

But the more I read, the more I realized, that’s the point.

This book doesn’t baby you. It’s not trying to be your productivity buddy. It’s more like a slap in the face from someone who actually wants you to win.

If you’re addicted to chasing goals, productivity hacks, or dopamine rituals, this book will piss you off. Because it’ll make you stop and ask: What am I even doing this all for?

It doesn’t have the slick polish of Atomic Habits, or the deep philosophy of Deep Work. But it does something they don’t: it makes you uncomfortable enough to finally change.
