All Along is a small town, friends to lovers military romance featuring a cast of characters and a very supportive friendship group. Maya has always had a crush on Caleb and they have always stayed friends. When Caleb enlists in the military Maya supports him with consent letters and care packages. Their friendship continues until he returns home many years later injured and no longer wants anything to do with Maya. This story takes you on a wave of emotions as Caleb faces his past and accepts his future. This was a really enjoyable read and is book four in the Smugglers Hideaway series but is totally fine as a standalone story. I received a complementary copy from Booksirens.

I really enjoyed the characters and seeing how Caleb worked through his return home and how supportive Maya is of him. They are great together. Her family life hits a little too close to home and I really feel for her.

Everytime I start a book in this series is like going home to spend time with friends. Each book just draws you in and you just can't help feeling part of the story. Maya has been Calebs penpal since he joined up and left Smugglers Hideaway, sending him letters and care packages just keeping him close. She's loved him for so long yet knows all he thinks of her is as a friend. Having her girl group of friends is what she looks forward to knowing they have her back no matter what. Caleb can't believe he's so close yet so far away from her, but it's for the best he can't be what she needs. Hiding away in Smugglers Hideaway is amazing, how nobody has found out is unbelievable. Going to Hudson's baby shower is a mistake, but the risk is worth it if he just catches a glimpse of her. But he can't believe her response when she sees him, he pushes her away but knows she won't give up that easy. Can he make her see he's no hero, he's not good enough for her, she deserves the world and he can't give it her. Why is she so unlovable, why can't she be more than a friend, why do her parents treat her the way they do. The story is so complex, yet so heartfelt and just draws you to both characters. Will they be able to overcome the obstacles put in their way and put the past where it belongs in the past. Or will Maya's parents prove themselves right about her being unlovable. I love the community and how they are always quick to help each other and yet happy to just be there if needed. Each book ends up being my new favourite, but I must say I love how Caleb just puts Maya on a pedestal. I can't wait for the next installment.

Are you ready for a military hero?

Maya sure is. She’s waited forever for Caleb to come home. But when he finally does? He won’t even open the door for her.

If Caleb thinks she’s going to let him hide away in his cabin, he’s got another thing coming—especially when his parents assume Maya is his girlfriend. Now, they’re in a fake relationship… but Maya? She’s determined to make it real.

I don’t know about you, but I’m rooting for Maya!

Another great addition to this addictive series, it can totally be read as a standalone but I would urge reading the series in sequence in order to get acquainted with the the wonderful , zany characters who live in Smugglers Hideaway.
Maya Jenkins, along with Paisley, Chloe and Nova, had been best friends since high school, they were now joint owners of a very successful brewery. Maya had watched her friends(except for Paisley), one by one falling in love, all the while, for ten long years, writing letters to her pen friend Caleb and sending him delicious home made food parcels.
Maya had been in love with Caleb since he stood up to the bullies who were making her life a misery at high school but she began to believe her parents constant proclamations that she was unlovable when Caleb left her to join the army.
Although she couldn't believe that someone as gorgeous as Caleb could ever love someone like her, the letters and the food parcels continued until..........Caleb was home and he didn't even let her know, he had hidden himself away in a cabin in the woods. when Maya turned up with food Caleb refused to let her in Maya was tenacious, she would keep trying but how long could shy Maya put up with his rejection.
Caleb had been badly injured in an attack whilst serving in the army, he was ashamed of his scars, he was ashamed that he would never be the man that he wanted to be for Maya, he was ashamed of the panic attacks.
This story follows the stormy, emotional but funny, journey of Maya and Caleb as they strive to reach their HEA, with the help of their quirky friends, the pranks, the laughter but mostly the friendship, the loyalty, the fact that they would always be there, I can't wait to read Paisley's story.

D.E. Haggerty’s* All Along: A Friends to Lovers, Fake Dating* small-town romantic comedy (Smuggler's Hideaway Book 4) tells the story of a wounded soldier, Caleb, and Maya, the girl who has been his pen pal for over a decade. Unbeknownst to each other, Caleb and Maya both harbored unrequited feelings but never expressed them. Maya wrote letters and sent monthly care packages to Caleb while he served in the military. For Caleb, the military was more than just service; it became his way of life. He was the only one he knew until an injury from enemy fire forced him home to reevaluate his future while awaiting medical clearance to return to the Army. Maya runs into Caleb at a friend’s baby reveal party at Cove’s Resort, but he swiftly turns away and retreats to his cottage. Maya persists in trying to connect with Caleb, who continuously spurns her efforts until the day his parents arrive, prompting their first in-person conversation. Caleb suggests they pretend to be a couple to divert his parents' focus from his single status. Maya is more than willing to help him with this charade. As they spend time together, they discover their attraction is hotter than jalapeño peppers, leading them to act on their feelings, stirring thoughts of a future together and stars shimmering in Maya’s eyes.
Meanwhile, Caleb still hopes to be medically cleared to rejoin the military. D.E. Haggerty’s, All Along: A Friends to Lovers, Fake Dating small-town romantic comedy (Smuggler's Hideaway Book 4) delivers drama and spice, showcasing a love that triumphs over adversity, culminating in a heartwarming HEA. It's always a pleasure reading when H.E. Haggerty authors a book.

Getting out of the friend zone by any and all means necessary

All Along (Smuggler’s Hideaway Book 4) by D. E. Haggerty is a sweet romcom where the heroine is shy yet determined and the hero has lost his way.
Smuggler’s Hideaway finally gets her fateful little hands on these characters when Caleb unexpectedly returns without letting his pen pal and best friend Maya know. Her heart is in the right place but Caleb’s head is all screwed up.
All Along is the journey Maya and Caleb is destined to take, but had been kiboshed early on thanks to Maya’s narcissistic parents. While we can lament the missed time together, maybe their flourishing relationship is blossoming at just the right time.
The setting and this madcap group of girlfriends make for a very interesting and entertaining read. The plot is drenched in emotion as Caleb and Maya figure things out and make a few discoveries along the way.
Overall, this book is truly a romcom. You’ll laugh at all the antics, cheer and egg on the shenanigans, and cry a few happy tears, too. Maya and Caleb are destined and their story to HEA make for one very satisfying romance read that’s not to be missed.
I read an ARC of this book and voluntarily share my review.

Complex, Heartfelt, Steamy Romance with Humor, Wit, and ALL the Feels

I loved Maya and Caleb's story and could not put the book down - read it in one day. For those who have read the series, this one had less of the usual "Smuggler's Hideaway silliness" and touched on more the much more serious topics of abuse and PTSD. That said, I loved Caleb and Maya together and how despite their individual demons, they stood up and fought for each other. I also liked how they were able to navigate the rough patches in their relationship together, not the mention the heat between them (it's always the shy quiet ones - 5 chili peppers hot!!). The book is part of a series and most of the characters are in this book as well, but it easily works as a standalone novel (although all the books in the series are also wonderful) - Enjoy!

I was sent an ARC by the author and I am voluntarily leaving my honest review.

Wait, Caleb, Maya’s over a decade pen pal and crush is back in town from active duty and he didn’t let her know? If he thinks Maya is going to let him sit by in his own pity party and shut her out he’s definitely underestimated her. Maya may suffer from shyness. But shy and determined friend are not mutually exclusive! Lol Maya show him what he’s missing and when he finally admits he’s not as broken as he thought and takes ahold of her he’s not letting go. No matter what. This is a wonderful, engaging and fun next chapter of Smuggler’s Hideaway series. Though you might miss a few references to other characters past antics, this book most definitely can be read as a stand alone. It will just the catalyst to going back and catching all the previous books. Here’s to Smugglers and the Mermaids that love them!! This one is a hit!! Smuggler’s Hideaway has been so much fun!! All Along was the fourth book in the series and can be read as a stand-alone but definitely don’t miss out on all the other island fun! It had just the right amount of spice, mixed with swoon, and angst!

Maya and Caleb had been friends for a long time. She had been writing him letters and sending care packages since he had joined the military. But now that he was back, he didn’t want anything to do with anyone, let alone Maya. Would she be able to crack the code and get him to open up or was their friendship beyond repair?

I was rooting for these two so much! They both had to work through some tough situations in order to realize they were enough and deserved happiness! I hate that it took Caleb getting hurt to see what had always been in front of him, but I am just glad he finally saw it!! And watching the girls together has always been a fun time!! Lots of laughs!! Can’t wait for the next one!!

This is a favorite series, due to reliably entertaining banter, a quirky small town, and a women’s group of close friends. This installment in the series features Maya, the quiet one in the friend-group who handles their brewery’s accounts. Maya’s high school crush and her decade-long pen pal has finally returned to the island of Smuggler’s Hideaway. Caleb had left the island to pursue a military career. Instead of the happy reunion that Maya hoped to have with him, it turns out that Caleb returned to quirky little Smuggler’s Rest to recover from a severe injury. Their story has dual points of view, adult heat and some triggers (incl. PTSD and abusive parents). With the help of their caring friends, Maya and Caleb grow and overcome a lot on their way to an uplifting HEA. A book club might enjoy discussing their respective strengths and weaknesses, and how perfectly this couple complements each other! After leaving Smuggler’s Hideaway to join the military, Caleb and Maya became pen pals. She enjoyed writing to him and sending him care packages. Suddenly he quit responding and she couldn’t figure out what happened until she saw him hiding away back at Smuggler’s Hideaway. He didn’t want her to know he was there and wouldn’t see her. Turns out he was injured and was there to recuperate and didn’t want anyone including his parents to know as he felt it was his fault. This story will show how he came to grips with what really happened as well as how many lies were told to him. Maya’s friends were her family until she got with Caleb which I loved to see as her parents were horrible to her and always telling her she was unlovable. Another great story that you just can’t put down until the end and then you want just a little bit more.

These books are TOO long
TOO repetitive
Filled with men and their wishy washy inner monologs and women that are so dumb they flip flop the narrative in their minds
While the women are all hilarious when together, I can't stomach the rest. I'll just be skimming thru these next two books before I stop with this author. It's not like she's a new author. These books are 10 years after her first (that I could see anyway) and if an author has this many series under her belt and hasn't improved then I'm definitely not going to read her prior work.
I give her as many stars as I do just for the humour

"Caleb isn’t for me"

Let's play a drinking game
You take one shot for every time someone
1. Says blah blah isn't for me
2. Claims someone shackles their wrist
3. Tweaks someone's nose
4. Decides that the person who is showing them love doesn't actually love them

Do not play this game if you're reading the books back to back lol

Another great story from Smuggler’s Rest.

This is Maya and Caleb’s story.

Maya and Caleb became friends at school, and then pen friends when Caleb signed up for the military.

Maya writes to him regularly, as she has done for a decade, but worries when, out of the blue, her letters and a parcel are returned, and his telephone number is no longer connected.

I received an advance review copy for free, and am leaving this honest review voluntarily

Caleb has returned to the island, but doesn’t want to see anyone, even his parents, as he wants to

tend his wounds alone.

Maya is determined to break down the walls he has built around himself, and, to appease his parents, Caleb asks Maya to “Fake Date” him, and she jumps at the chance.

I loved this story, and all the characters from the previous stories, who are there for Maya.

Finally! The story that has left me so curious about the actual relationship between these two great characters! Maya and Caleb’s story is both tragic and romantic; they each have a past and experiences the other doesn’t or can’t (it’s classified!) know about. Caleb reacts to his situation in the most typical way- by shutting himself out from the rest of the world except Maya has finally decided that he’s going to learn about her true character. She is strong and fierce, and although not the most vocal of her friend group, she can be heard when necessary! I love her character- she may appear to be timid, but she won’t back down when the situation calls for it, and Caleb is going to learn this one does! Read this to see how a childhood crush can turn into lasting love. With mermaid karaoke, lots of drinks, and the kind of friends I wish I had, this one is a can’t miss!

Biology doesn't make a family

Maya and Caleb each have some really heavy life stuff to work out. I loved the way they were each other's biggest cheerleaders when they opened up about the lies and 'stuff' in their lives that made them feel "less than". Maya had to cut ties with a toxic family relationship, which was a long time coming. Caleb had to deal with life after a potantially career ending injury. They do such a lovely job of helping each other heal from the emotional and psychological scars in their past, and move forward together into a HEA worthy of one of Maya's romance novels. I loved how Caleb helped Maya redefine the meaning of 'family', so she could build a support group that every person needs and deserves.

I received a free advance copy of this story from BookSirens and voluntarily chose to share my review.

The fourth book in the series is Maya's story. Caleb's been her pen pal for over a decade of deployment, but she's cared for him since they were teenagers.

When Caleb returns to the island without warning, everyone wonders why.
Some speculate he's tired of military life, others just want to know why all the secrecy and hiding out. Maya's just glad he's back, although a little annoyed he didn't tell her he was coming home.

When Caleb propositions Maya with a plan to get everyone off his back, she readily accepts the fake arrangement. If it will get her closer to him, she's all in.

Maya quickly learns faking is not so much fun and Caleb learns how much he missed her and he's being a fool for not truly pursuing what he wants. But wonders will she still be interested if she knew the entire truth of why he's back and why he left in the first place?

Entertaining installment of the "Five Fathoms Brewery" bestie.
Shy Maya gets her own romance. Can't wait to read about Paisley and Eli!

Maya met her perfect match in second grade and fell for him in high school. But her horrible, abusive parents put a stick in their relationship and Caleb joined the Army to prove himself “worthy” of Maya. Unfortunately, that seemed to become an end in itself and he hadn’t returned to Smuggler’s Rest in over a decade until he was injured. I think he was selfish and cowardly - he left Maya alone to face her battles (long before he was injured) because he didn’t feel he’d “proved” himself. What an a-hole! Sure he’s supportive once he arrives back but (for over 10 years) he never gave her the opportunity to say what SHE needs or wants! Maya did eventually stand up and speak up for herself. Good for her! Good read, good heat, lots of feels.

"All Along" by D. E. Haggerty is a romantic comedy that captivates from start to finish. Haggerty masterfully crafts a tale that is both heartwarming and hilarious, bringing together elements of romance and humor in perfect harmony. The chemistry between the protagonists is palpable, and their witty banter keeps the reader thoroughly entertained.

One of the standout features of this novel is its vibrant setting. The author paints a vivid picture of the locale, immersing the reader in a world that feels both inviting and enchanting. The setting complements the narrative beautifully, acting as a backdrop for the unfolding romance and adding an extra layer of charm to the story.

The plot is well-paced and engaging, with each chapter bringing unexpected turns that keep the reader eagerly turning pages. Haggerty's characters are relatable and endearing, making it easy to root for them as their love story unfolds.

If you like friends to lovers then this book is for you.

Maya and Caleb were school friends first, then pen friends when Caleb joined the military.

When Caleb returns home, he's standoffish and reclusive, however that is not enough to deter Maya from keeping him in her life.

I enjoyed the balance between trauma and relationship growth. Some of the subjects covered were tricky, yet the author was very careful in how they were written.

Maya and Caleb obviously loved each other, yet were still able to call each other out, support each other where needed and redefine their relationship.

As always with this series, there are also lots of fun moments, some nice spice and though Maya and Caleb are the central characters, we also saw lots of familiar faces. That said, this book can be read as a standalone.

This may be my favorite Smuggler's Hideaway book yet! At first I wasn't too thrilled about Caleb. I really thought that Maya should have cut him loose and find someone who wasn't so mean spirited and hateful to her, whether he had always been her friend or not. Then after understanding that he was dealing with issues that made it hard to commit to Maya, even though that is exactly what his heart wanted. I couldn't help but to start to root for him to open up and show Maya what kind of man he really was. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily. This book is packed with laughter, feel good moments, moments when I got so mad I wanted to jump in the book and give some old fashion attitude adjustments and of course moments of unconditional love. I highly recommend this book.

I swooned at the love between Maya and Caleb. It shows how important finding your person is and how instrumental they are in healing you.

Maya is the quiet, bookworm type. The only people that truly know her are her four best friends, and her pen pal Caleb. The guy she’s had a crush on since she was a child- and is now a soldier in the army.

Caleb has just returned home after being injured in the line of duty and the last person he wants to se whim damaged and broken is the girl of his dreams. But that doesn’t stop Maya from worming her way into his world and turning it upside down.

Together they start to heal from their traumas, hers from her family and his from the war. Yet sometimes it takes more than love for someone to stay and figuring out who you really are can tear you apart.

This is the fourth installment in the Smuggler's Hideaway series. It's an emotional friends to lovers story. I was excited to read this book and I can honestly say that I was not disappointed. The drama, frustrating moments, steam, and engaging secondary characters kept me intrigued. I was hooked from the first paragraph and couldn't put it down until I finished it. The romance between Maya and Caleb was both sweet and passionate. The friendships and the witty banter added a nice touch of warmth and entertainment. I couldn't stop laughing at times. This is definitely a book that I would encourage others to read. I'm looking forward to diving into the next book in the series and seeing each character get their happily ever after!

All Along is the fourth book in the Smuggler's Hideaway series and it is full of angst, PTSD, trauma, injury and the value of self worth. The book is a true love story with characters that are enticing and well written. As Maya and Caleb work through their issues we meet a cast of friends that are funny, unforgiving of others who are unfriendly and don't understand the importance of supporting your friends. I thoroughly enjoyed how Maya and Caleb found their joy and HEA through their friends and each other. More times than not the family we find and make are more than enough to find your self worth and happiness. This group of friends have been together since school and work together and live life to the fullest. I totally recommend this series.

I absolutely love this series. D. E. Haggerty is quickly becoming one of my go to authors when I’m looking for warm, fuzzy small town love. Maya has been attracted to Caleb since being in school together. She became pen pals w/ him when he joined the military 10 years ago. Caleb returns to Smugglers Hideway w/ a severe injury to his thigh and a load of PTSD. You know a woman who is devoted enough to be a pen pal for 10 yrs is not going to let a locked cabin door dissuade her from help Caleb manage recovery from a war injury and his plan to be a PTSD hermit.

I plan on reading every book in this series and probably anything else D.E. Haggerty puts out. Her books put me in a warm, comfy mood. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

A great addition to a great series. This can be read as a standalone as the author weaves each of the main characters backgrounds into the book but I would highly recommend reading the whole series. All Along follows the reunion of pen pals Maya, one of the owners of Five Fathoms Brewery, and Caleb who has come home from the army injured. The pair were really close at school and both wanted more except that they didn’t tell each other! Caleb wanted to come back a hero and doesn’t think he is good enough for her but Maya is determined to be his friend, even though she’s always wanted more. Steamy with some hilarious moments along with some serious ones. This author always gets the balance just right.

Caleb has returned to Smuggler's Hideaway to recover from his army injury. Maya who crushed on Caleb in high school, has been his pen pal during his time away but he is adamant he doesn't want anything to do with anybody when he comes back, especially Maya. But she is persistent and keeps turning up at his door with food which she leaves there when he refuses to let her in. However, when his parents visit, Maya is finally allowed in. Together with her friends and their partners, Maya persuades Caleb to give them a chance to have a relationship with each other. Caleb agrees as he finds it impossible to resist her. Another entertaining read in this series.

Caleb and Maya are so stinking cute together! 🥰

They’ve been friends since they were children and pen pals for 12 years while Caleb has been in the military. Now Caleb is back, injured and hiding from everyone. Maya may be shy but she is strong, stubborn and persistent.

It’s beautiful seeing their friendship turn into a relationship, they support each other at every turn and their love keeps growing stronger.

I absolutely adored Maya’s friends and the whole cast of side characters. I am excited to read the other stories in the series.

Smuggler's Hideaway to the rescue. All about found family, loyal friends and a love that should be shared. I would've given it 5 stars but I had a hard time really liking the hero. I understand his angst, I just didn't care for how he lashed out on occasion. I'm glad I read this, because I've been anxious to see this could find their HEA, I wasn't as much a fan of the couple. But it should definitely be read, held my interest, amused me and made me clench my thighs on occasion. Pretty much what I read for. :)
