This book is great for only children who are preparing for an addition to their family. I would also say that this can apply for adopting families too. It is a "guide" book, and uses "you" frequently. It is interesting to children, if applicable and is age appropriate for children pre-k through 4th grades. It is informative and helpful.
The illustrations assist the story and correspond to the text. However, all of the characters in the story are white, so there is no diversity. It's pretty obvious that the setting is in America, so the diversity around cultural groups is minimal to none as well. I was disappointed with this aspect, but overall the main theme of the story is still beneficial.
I think this is a great book to read to your children before they become an older sibling. It does a great job of explaining what baby's are like when they're born and what it's like having to share objects and parents' attention with the new baby. The pictures helped illustrate the text.
Page 9, mom and dad go to hospital. Page 10, mom and baby (and dad) come home healthy. I'm looking for something that covers an extended hospital stay by mom with very restricted sibling visitation privileges and something that covers mom's extended time at home convalescing.
