This is the best 'Warriors' book to have come out in the past few years!

'A Shadow In RiverClan' tells the story of Feathertail and her struggles adjusting to life in RiverClan after the events of Tigerstar's tyranny. This was an excellent concept to explore and it was executed quite well, as the effects of Tigerstar's tyranny on Feathertail and Stormfur were unknown to the reader. I liked how the main driving force of the graphic novel was Feathertail's inner conflict regarding her feelings towards RiverClan and her Clanmates. It helps to make this book stand out compared to other 'Warriors' books which usually have a villain or some other antagonistic force to create the conflict of the story. Her inner conflict was also executed really well, and I liked Feathertail's character growth throughout the story.

The side characters had nothing really going for them, but since so much of this book focuses on Feathertail's feelings and isolation from her Clanmates it makes sense that the side characters aren't as prevalent. However, I do wish that Stormfur had a slightly bigger role in this story, and it was frustrating how dismissive he was at times regarding Feathertail's feelings.

The artwork of this graphic novel is gorgeous. The colours were really pretty, and the expressions of the cats were good. There were many points while reading this where I was just in awe looking at the art.

I hope the Erin Hunter team continues to make graphic novels in the coming years, and I eagerly look forward to reading 'Exile From ShadowClan.' I wholeheartedly believe that this book deserves five stars and is an absolute must read for any 'Warriors' fan.

I needed to catch up on my reading challenge so this was nice. I think this is probably one of the best mangas. Everyone lives Feathertail because she died a horrible death, so it was only fair they wrote a book on her actual life. To be honest it’s nice to see a character in the warriors books with actual logic and common decency. And I love that she finally gave up her trust issues and accepted her clan and herself it was just straight up so sweet. Wonderful book!

The artwork in this book was beautiful, and I enjoyed seeing some of my favorite characters taking the spotlight in a full-color graphic novel, but the story didn't stand out to me very much.

This book re broke my heart... and made certain events so much more heart breaking! But I enjoyed going back into early Clan days, made me very nostalgic ❤️ I love the art style in these books and it being in colour just adds so much to the story. I hope they make more because I can’t get enough!

One of my fav graphic novels. This was better than the many other graphic novels I’ve read recently. Also, where did James L Barry-the artist- go? I feel like he just disappeared.

Premise: From the day they were born, Feathertail and Stormfur have faced the prejudice of being half-Clan cats – which nearly cost them their lives at the claws of Tigerstar. Even now that he's dead, Feathertail can't bring herself to forgive her fellow RiverClan cats – especially their leader, Leopardstar – for turning on her and her brother. It's only when a rogue and her two kits join RiverClan that Feathertail begins a personal journey to find out where she truly belongs – one in which she'll have to confront the shadows behind, in front of, and within her.

Story/Writing: Finally! After weeks of having to focus on other commitments, my review for this graphic novel is long overdue! But…better late than never, I guess. Anyway, man did it feel great to return to the world of "Warriors" after months of being away from it! It's funny in a way, 'cause I wasn't expecting this book to be as long as it was, but I'm also glad that it's the first graphic novel we've gotten in awhile – and in glorious, digital technicolor! And I can gladly say that, despite the eleven dollar price tag, it was worth every penny! From the first page I was engrossed in Feathertail's story – not least of which because I'm going to read "Graystripe's Vow" next. I will admit, I was a little taken aback at first when I found out how far back into the timeline the Erin Hunter team was going with this title (ten years by my estimate). But it's always great to visit old characters, like catching up with old friends! And once again, I've learned not to underestimate the talent of these authors! The script may have been penned by someone else, but the influence of the Erin Hunter writers clearly shows with every page! It has all the intensity, drama, and passionate yet masterful storytelling I've come to expect from this series. Even after having read all the books in the series (almost), there were still plenty of plot twists and turns that I did not see coming!

Artwork: Honestly, I've always liked this particular style featured in the graphic novels, but as far as I'm concerned the artist(s) really stepped up their game here! The characters' facial expressions, their actions, and of course the excellent use of color really help you feel every emotion every character is feeling. Not only that, the battle scenes in particular got quite a bit more violent, at least from what I remember. It of course isn't too graphic, but we see characters bleed. More than once I flipped the page during a fight scene and my immediate reaction was "Oh man!" Hawkfrost (or Hawkpaw) is shown literally sinking his claws into a fox's eyes! My only teeny little gripe is that there are a few times where the characters are drawn doing human things, like crying or putting a paw on a cat's shoulder like we humans do with our hands. But that's a nitpick and when it's done, it's done well. In short, stunningly beautiful artwork worthy of this story!

Feathertail – Now to characters! I will admit, when I first heard about this graphic novel and it's story, I was a bit skeptical. Feathertail after all has been gone for a long while in both the series' timeline and in real world time. And her story ended in a tragic but satisfying way. What else was there to tell? That said, she's always been a fan favorite, and it's not hard to see why! And I'm very pleased to say I was engrossed in Feathertail's story here from the first page – not least of which because I'm going to read "Graystripe's Vow" next. But besides that, it made me realize I'd never really thought until now the struggles she and her brother had to face. It's always hard being a half-Clan cat – if anything, it's kind of a given. But it's a whole other thing when your whole Clan and even your leader seem willing to sacrifice you to keep the illusion of peace. I felt for her all the way through – from her resentment toward her hypocritical leader, her bitterness toward her Clanmates to the point where she's willing to fight them to defend Ferncloud, to her envy at how fast her Clanmates accept Sasha and her kits, to her anger at Sasha when the latter reveals her relationship with Tigerstar. And yet for all her faults, she retains the honor of a warrior, half-Clan or otherwise. She's a fighter, in and out of battle. Even after she learns Tigerstar fathered Hawkfrost and Mothwing, she refuses to judge them by his actions – even as she remains rightfully and unfortunately wary of Hawkfrost. And even though she ends her friendship with Sasha over her secret, she promises to keep it for the sake of her kits. When faced with evidence that RiverClan and especially its leader have changed, she humbly admits she was in the wrong and forgives them. And despite her friendship with Ferncloud, she firmly – but not meanly – warns her of the consequences regarding prey leaving one territory for another. You feel like you're following her on this journey and by the end of it – when she receives her life-changing vision from Oakheart that spurs the "New Prophecy" arc – she's grown so much…even if there's a bit of a layer of bitter-sweetness if you know her fate after this story.

Various Other Characters – First, I'll discuss Leopardstar. I loved how much she was featured in this story – probably because the recently announced fourteenth super edition will be about her. I also loved how her rocky relationship with Feathertail is the main crux of the story. She may come off as a bit hypocritical early on, but at the end of the day, there's no doubt she'd give every one of her nine lives to protect her Clan. One of the most heartwarming yet heartbreaking moments is when she, Feathertail, Stormfur, and Hawkpaw find the fox that attacked RiverClan. The fox has her pinned down, she's already badly hurt, yet she tearfully implores her Clanmates to run to safety – and that of course spurs Feathertail on to fight the fox instead. Even in the aftermath, she continues to put her Clanmates above herself despite being the most wounded. I felt for Sasha as well. It's baffling how she can continue to love Tigerstar even after she found out how depraved he was. That said, she made the smart decision by leaving him. And it's obvious that she loves her kits and wants nothing but the best for them – even if their place of refuge could prove dangerous should the truth of their origins get out. I really liked her friendship with Feathertail, even though I knew the truth about her relationship with Tigerstar would inevitably come out. Even if she still loves him to some degree, she doesn't deny his cruelty and the torment he caused Feathertail, nor does she want her kits to be judged for what he did. Speaking of which, I loved Feathertail's relationships with her remaining family, by which I of course mean Stormfur and Graystripe. I liked how Stormfur's personality provided a stark contrast to his sister. He's made his peace and forgiven his Clanmates, and he encourages Feathertail to do the same – though it is a little bittersweet knowing he eventually leaves RiverClan for the Tribe of Rushing Water. Still, he's always looking out for her to the point where he joins the patrol to find the fox just because she does. And one of my favorite scenes is when Graystripe tells Feathertail that she'll always be welcome in ThunderClan. You can tell how much he loves both her and Stormfur. And even though he may wish for them to be in ThunderClan with him, he's happier and prouder knowing both his kits have grown to be fine warriors.

Overall: Whether you're new to or familiar with this amazing series, this graphic novel provides an emotionally sweeping story I didn't know I wanted! The artwork alone is worth the price! The characters are engaging, the dramatic moments hit hard, and the influence of the Erin Hunter team shines through! Pick it up if you haven't already!

This manga is one of my favourites even when I don't really like RiverClan. Feathertail had really complicated life And still she became loyal and trustwothy warrior (giving Ferncloud that rabbit doesn't count as disloaylty :D). I enjoyed reading about her fight with herself whether she will trust RiverClan or not. I feel also sorry for her soo much. Because when she finally found her place in RiverClan, she was send to mission to Midnight.

It's a decent book, and the characters are interesting, but Feathertail is so different! In this book, she is cold and keeps to herself all the time, but in the New Prophecy, she's completely different! I get that she changed by the end, but you'd think if she had an instinct to be questioning, she wouldn't lose that by having a change in opinion.

Lol another book, there are like almost 70 now haha. I liked this graphic novel a lot, I thought it was just going to be about Feathertail but I was thankfully wrong. This manga expands on how Feathertail feels being in Riverclan after the events of Tigerclan and the first arc. She feels uncomfortable around her clanmates who had in the past betrayed her trust. Because of this she cuts herself off from everyone except her brother Stormfur. But then Sasha comes alone with her kits and they enter Riverclan. Feathertail becomes great friends with Sasha and their friendship is so wholesome to watch. Some things happen and Feathertail eventually learns to trust her clanmates. This graphic novel intertwined itself into the world of Warrior cats very well and I enjoyed it a lot. It also makes you think about her relationship with Crowfeather....... 😭

So ye I give this graphic novel a 3.6/5

I liked this book, EXCEPT for the ending.

This graphic novel shows Feathertail's life in RiverClan after the reign of Tigerstar. She feels like an outsider in her Clan, and rightfully so, as they tried to murder her, after all. Her friends basically betray her, (Mistyfoot) and guilt-trip her into forgiving the people who killed her mentor (Stormfur) and she is sad and alone.

Her only friend becomes Sasha, a kittypet turned rouge with two kits, Moth and Hawk (who later become Mothwing and Hawkfrost). Hawkfrost gets apprenticed to Leopardstar, whom she doesn't trust at all, and RIGHTFULLY SO, provided Leopardstar let her friend die due to his parentage.

At the end of the book, Sasha leaves, and Feathertail is sad again. She goes out with Leopardstar (why I don't remember) and they get mauled by a fox. Leopardstar apologizes for her actions before and Feathertail realizes she needs to forgive and forget, and she lives happily ever after (until she doesn't, but that's for another book)!

This book gives more characterization to Feathertail, and now I can see her less as pretty-mollie-whom-Crowpaw-like(d) and more as an actual character! And now I'm torn between Feathertail x Sasha or Feathertail x Ferncloud (but really Ferncloud, why does your face turn red whenever you see Feathertail... is there something you're not telling us?). The art is also very pretty!

But the ending rubbed me the wrong way. Feathertail realizes she's been "unnecessarily" holding a grudge against Leopardstar, but it's 100% justifiable, and Feathertail under NO CIRCUMSTANCES should she be ENTITLED to forgive Leopardstar, or feel bad that she hated her! Also it's kinda sad that she had to be rude to Ferncloud because she is now "loyal to RiverClan" or something. But yeah, I would still recommend this. Probably not the best for people who haven't read the main series, but still could be well understood.

I LOVE THIS GRAPHIC NOVEL!! 💗🫶

FeatherTail is really giving wlw vibes in this comics!

Friendship of FeatherTail and Sasha was so adorable, and I think, if authors of Warrior Cats would be allowed to make sapphic characters in this series, FeatherTail FOR SURE will have feelings for her. 😭❤️‍🩹

And the way she cared for Sasha's kittens OMG.. The moments of them all being together were amazing.

FeatherTail really didn't want to forgive LeopardStar.. but it's understandable.

When they were going after the fox, it was amazing how FeatherTail was fightning for LeopardStar, even after the betrayal in the past. She understood that LeopardStar was ashamed of her behaviour back then.
And the way she apologized FeatherTail and StormFur later, when she was saved by them. ☹️

And FeatherTail was finally able to forgive her and the whole RiverClan! She saw they regret the past. 🫶

This book have something special itself, maybe the fact FeatherTail's character is so relatable and understandable?

And the whole vibe of this graphic novel was incredible! I felt it specially, because I was reading it on the pier above my pond (I have a large yard with several ponds) and thanks to this I felt the atmosphere of the RiverClan even better! 🏞

I’m not much of a graphic novel reader but I couldn’t resist reading this one! I have to admit the art style looked strange to me at first but it eventually won my heart. The way the characters were drawn was very characteristic and I could tell who they were without having seen their designs before. The drawings of nature were great, too!

Now, for the story itself, it was really pleasant to read from the perspective of a RiverClan cat, especially from Feathertail, as we didn’t see enough of her during The New Prophecy. She seemed out of character at times but I think it’s understandable because of her situation, though it could be a bit annoying. However, I loved that we got to see her friendships and relationships, and to know how she felt about the events of the first series.

I also liked the themes of forgiveness and letting go which are touched upon in this manga, and I am glad Leopardstar got her very needed redemption. It was well done and I truly felt what the characters were facing.

Overall, this was a lot of fun to read! It made me consider reading the rest of the mangas and made me appreciate RiverClan more.

i like this book a lot, although its short unlike other warriors book. i also have one thing wrong with it : feather tail.

i know it revolves around feathertail, but i can’t help feeling she was a little rude to sasha and leopardstar. i get sasha loves tiger star, and that’s wrong, but you don’t have to abandon her for that? atleast tell her you’re not close or something but still stay friends. and she basically hated sashas kids after that for their father. they can’t help it so why is she so mad?

and with leopard star, aswell. anyone wouldve obeyed tigerstar due to how much power he had, and that’s why she ordered stonefur to kill featherpaw and stormpaw after tigerstars request. not liking her after that? all of the rc warriors did the same. would she have fought up against tigerstar? no!

idk, i just feel like feathertail is sm sweeter in the other books rather than this comic. they ruined her in this for me 😞. the ignoring, the unsociable
attitude, etc etc just made her seem more ignorant. other than that, i think the book was really good, which is why i give it 3 (.5) stars.

I've been reading and loving this series for ten years now and I'm still happy about every new book that is released up until this day. Even if this one isn't exactly brand new anymore (because at first, I had the stupid idea that I could wait for the German-language edition so that the collection of the “Warrior Cats” comic books would look more uniform, but that took too long for me, especially after I've heard a lot of good stuff about it).

The book has really beautiful pictures once again and the fact that they are printed in colour only makes it all the better (I did not expect that, when the book arrived and was positively surprised). The pictures looked great and the territory of the RiverClan was displayed in a fantastic way, which, for me, is a nice addition with more details to this huge world of the clans.

The story itself has an interesting point of conflict that has also been very well addressed. The books are all intended for younger readers, but I generally like about this series that it doesn't shy away from a more serious or gloomy tone.
Feathertail herself is a classic favourite of the second series of books, but she was never really developed very deeply (she was still not a flat book character, but she was just never fully the focus), which is now changing here. I like that very much, because this expansion was good for her.

Then there is the setting. First of all, it was long overdue for RiverClan to be a little more in focus again, even if it does not take place during the current seventh series. Secondly, it's a real nostalgic kick for me, because it takes place between series one and two and therefore logically also addresses the topics of these series and I felt like I was transported back to ten years ago.
Therefore, this additional comic is not the right one for a newcomer to start with the series, but it fits perfectly between the first and second season without being spoiled.

All in all, I can only recommend the book. For me, as a huge fan of the series, this comic is a really nice addition to all the books and for me it is further proof that the series still shows potential and also uses it for new additions even after so many years (the fact that I read it within around 30 minutes proves this as well). I give it five stars.

I don't read these graphic novels for the story, I read them for the art.
To date, this is the most aesthetically pleasing Warriors graphic novel I have ever read. From the cover alone, you can see the amazing colour palette they use and the cute art style that fits in perfectly with the tone of the story. The writers behind Erin Hunter and their publishers doing a great job at getting their graphic novels into higher quality and I'm totally here for it. I'm getting tired of graphic novels about Sasha but I look forward to the next one they release.

A story from when the clans were still in the forest. This book is told from Feathertail's point of view. It covers Tigerstar's defeat (briefly), Sasha and her kits coming to Riverclan, and Feathertail's difficulty deciding where she belongs. The story ends with Feathertail being informed of the prophecy. She ultimately determines who she is and where she belongs.
