KD Richards continues her fantastic new series with Death by Data, a gripping cybersecurity thriller that expertly merges the classic detective procedural with the high-stakes world of cybercrime. The result is a fast-paced intrigue and second-chance romance that you’ll devour.
Detective Isaiah Reeves is new to the DC Metropolitan Police Department after suffering a massive loss at his old job. Imagine his surprise when his new case centers on an old college crush.
Lisa is brutally attacked in her home, but the attack isn't a random burglary. It’s a targeted attack seeking information that someone is convinced she has after meeting her old friend for coffee. Lisa, confused and scared, is relieved to see Isaiah again after so many years. He makes her feel safe, and with the clock ticking, she needs someone to protect her while she unravels the mystery of what her attacker was looking for.
Richards excels at crafting believable, complex storylines and relationships between her characters. The protective dynamic between Isaiah and Lisa forms the emotional core of the novel, adding gravity to every threat they face. Isaiah has to work through the physical dangers of the case while navigating the unfamiliar coding and languages of Lisa’s professional life. Lisa is a compelling protagonist as she realizes the data she doesn’t have is something someone will stop at nothing to get. If she can’t come up with the information they want, she could lose everything, including her life.
Richards moves the story seamlessly between tense action scenes, complex cybersecurity elements, and the couple's budding romance without overwhelming the reader.
Death by Data is a highly satisfying, timely thriller. It’s a compelling look at what happens when the human conscience collides with the cyberworld's dangerous underbelly. I highly recommend Death by Data to readers who enjoy police procedurals and cybersecurity thrillers.

Much better than the first book in the series. Lots of interesting twists kept the story moving at a good pace. I figured out where the code was hidden pretty easily but I didn’t figure out who the bad guy was.
