Aria can’t remember who she is or who the man who claims to be her husband is. Is what she is being told of her past the truth? How did she end up in the woods next to a dead body? There are so many unanswered questions Aria has to face every day without her memory. Amnesia and nightmares are merely a fraction of what Aria faces as she struggles to find the truth. I was immediately immersed in Aria’s quest for answers. This thriller is fast-paced, intense, and disturbing. The conclusion was surprising and satisfying. Thank you Booksprout and Inkubator Books for my copy.

I accessed an ARC copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley.

Aria, an artistic sculptor, lives in a secluded cabin with her writer husband, Austin.
Two years ago, Aria was in an accident. As a result, she suffers from retro-grade amnesia, remembering nothing of her life before, including what happened. Austin took care of her afterwards, as any husband would. Two years on and plagued by nightmares, Aria needs to uncover whats behind them and get back her memories. But with Austin now struggling and no longer taking care of himself, Aria needs to return the care he gave her.
What will her search for answers reveal, and why is someone trying to stop her?

I very quickly became hooked on this book, wanting to read just one more chapter each time I had to put it down. Just as I was thinking I knew what was going to happen, we were given another little snippet, leaving me to re-think again! With all the twists and turns, once we had the full picture, I actually gasped out loud!
This was a brilliant story, easy to follow, and keep track of what was happening.
I will definitely be looking to read other books by this author.

The blurb for this book is what really pulled me in but it is a little misleading because in accuatelity Aira doesn't like a good life and she's actually really unhappy.

Before I even got to the second chapter of the book I could already tell where this story/plot was headed, I really wish authors that write thrillers and suspense to not make I so obvious of what is going to happen.

As I read I did feel really bad for Aria because Austin was just an all around terrible person especially since she doesn't remember anything from before her accident. He was so manipulative and gaslighted her so much that I almost stopped reading the book completely because I've dealt with real people in my life like this and it reminded me too much of those people.

This book could have been better if the plot wasn't so predictable.

I received an ARC of this book from NetGalley for an honest review.

I Remember You by Theo Baxter, aria West doesn’t remember the first 30 years of her life and with the exception of a few glimpses and nightmares she has no idea what happened to her. Her husband Austin West, has mental health issues including agoraphobia and cannot leave the property. This is why she has to follow certain rules as to not provoke his emotional instability. this includes not bringing up the past her infidelity with a man named Michael which led to her accident and because of this she cannot ask him questions which bother her. This is why she tells a little fib and starts seeing a psychologist she tells Austin it’s to help with her nightmares but really it is so she can remember her past. The more she sees Dr. Max the more she trust him and the more she tells him and it is because of him that she starts seeing Austin‘s manipulative ways and decides to do a little digging of her own. unfortunately by the time she finds out the truth it may be too late. this author is really becoming a force to be reckoned with his books used to be eye rolling and had me saying as if… Throughout the story but his books have really become thrillers that have twist upon twist and although some may still be a tad bit unbelievable you will still finish the book with that OMG feeling only a good thriller can give you. this is a great thriller on par with Lisa Jewell, Fraeda McFadden you name your favorite thriller writer and trust me when I say he is truly becoming a competitor I love his books and can’t wait for the next one. #BookSprout, #IncubatorBooks, #TheBlindReviewer, #MyHonestReview, #TheoBaxter,#IRememberYou,

This is a DNF.

I’m about 60% done and it’s a repeat each chapter. Husband is a loser and gross. She doesn’t know her history … yet who doesn’t try to figure out what happened to you to lose your memory?

Also her running. “I’m just gonna do a slow 7 mile run with a 7 minute split- nice and relaxing in the forest!” Uhhhh that’s a fast run superstar. That ain’t slow. Run away from your weirdo husband and do something

I Remember You by Theo Baxter is a slow burn psychological thriller that is absolutely gripping.

When Aria West woke up in the hospital two years ago, she found that she had no memories. She didn't remember the accident, her house, or the man named Austin who is her husband. Austin slowly starts to tell Aria about their life together and she seems to be settling into her new normal. Now Aria is a ceramicist who is very successful but the kind and caring Austin is long gone. He has become more demanding, petulant, and has developed a case of agoraphobia. But when Aria starts having flashbacks to the night of her accident and her life before she lost her memory, she realizes that Austin's version of their life is not at all what she sees.

What a page turner! I blew through this book in a day completely avoiding all responsibilities! The tension throughout as Aria tries to reconcile what she is being told with what she is feeling / seeing in her flashbacks is thick and I couldn't wait to piece at all together. I could relate to Aria but she was also a bit frustrating at times! And then there is Austin.. man, don't get me started on that guy. Packed with non-stop tension and action with a great ending, I highly recommend this book!

Thank you to NetGalley, Theo Baxter, and Inkubator Books for this ARC. Publication date is March 30th 2025.

🎶 I'm tired of feeling like I'm fucking crazy. I'm tired of driving 'til I see stars in my eyes. 🎶

Two years ago, Aria West (h) woke up in a hospital with no memory of her past. Now, she’s a successful sculptor living with her husband, Austin, in a remote cabin in upstate New York. Despite her peaceful life, recurring nightmares of the traumatic event that caused her memory loss lead her to question everything - especially Austin’s version of events.

─── .¸✿¸.•❤•.❀• THOUGHTS¸•❀.•❤•.¸✿¸.⋆ ───

“Sometimes I feel like you’re looking right through me, and I don’t know how to reach you.”

Of all the predictable routes this could have taken, it went down the most obvious one - that her “husband” was behind it all, which I’m sure everyone saw coming. There was no shock when the twist was revealed, because truly, who else could it have been? Especially considering the husband was clingy, wouldn’t let her go out, and was very controlling, always blaming it on her agoraphobia and anxiety. I’m honestly surprised she didn’t connect the dots earlier, because that was such a glaring red flag. She really needed to do better. I had a headache just reading about how long it took her to realize he was certifiable.

“I’m her therapist,” he said. “That kind of, um…I don’t think it’s appropriate if…well, not to say Aria isn’t a beautiful woman…not that I’ve noticed or anything, it’s just that—”

“Max is my therapist, and only my therapist.”

“Precisely.” Max sighed. “I can’t date her because I am her therapist.”

I’m glad Max, her therapist, was on her side and the only sane one trying to help her out. He was the only person I felt I could trust, and I’m relieved it didn’t disappoint. Did I predict her falling for the therapist? Yeah, of course. And when her husband claimed she had a history of cheating, I was like… maybe, but no - she resisted and didn’t push anything with Max. They just felt connected, and they waited until she was no longer his patient. It kind of sucks that she would never remember her past or life with her husband. It was as if he never existed, and she probably did really love him. Now, it’s just a fleeting glimpse of time that, for her, doesn’t even feel real anymore.

─── .¸✿¸.•❤•.❀• OVERALL¸•❀.•❤•.¸✿¸.⋆ ───

This felt like a plot I’ve read many times before, so I wasn’t all that shocked by the plot twist. There were only a handful of possible twists that could’ve happened, and it was pretty predictable.

This is the second book of his I’ve read and i definitely enjoyed the suspense. I loved the plot of the FMC who has lost her memory and is trying to figure out what happened to get here to this place. I will say that the flashbacks didn’t move the story forward and the MMC’s “red pill” mindset and behavior made me want to put the book down. I’m glad i pushed through to find out what really happened. I enjoy his writing so I’ll definitely be exploring more of this catalog.

Amnesia, Toxic Relationship, Abusive, Misogynistic Husband.

Well.

This was a tough read, considering the subject matter.

Aria wakes up in hospital having survived an attack and bullet in her head, only to have no memory before she turned Thirty.

She now lives in an isolated cabin in the Catskills, were she creates ceramic works of art, with her acrophobic“ husband “ Austin, who is a trying to write his great work.

Austin however, is an abusive misogynist.

He spends hours on line with like minded men, while expecting his wife to be completely submissive.

He lives a slovenly lifestyle, while expecting his “ wife” Aria to constantly clean, cook, pay bills, and be available for seggs when he wants it.

Aria, obviously, it not happy with this arrangement, but Austin uses his mental health issues to garner sympathy.

But!

When Aria becomes crippled by her own nightmares surrounding her attack that don’t make sense.

Like, lying in a Forest, staring at the sky through the trees, smelling metallic blood and earth, then turning slowly to see the face of a man, with brown eyes, hair matted in blood….

Dead!

She seeks out a therapist Max, who specialises in recovering memories in retrograde amnesia, with the use of hypnosis.

Unfortunately, her time spent with another man, even a health professional, doesn’t sit well with Austin, resulting in Aria having to down play her progress to keep him calm.

But as Aria’s sessions continue, the more she begins to doubt the man she is living with and, the ah authenticity of her marriage.

Thus, Austin becomes more controlling, and maniac .

The more questions Aria has about her earlier life, the more untruths she uncovers, the angrier Austin gets.

Meanwhile, she is seeking solace in her therapy sessions and the calming voice of Max.

When you read a book around this subject matter it’s always going to be a tough read.

It’s not a spoiler, to mention that, clearly, Austin is NOT Aria’s husband, but when you realise WHO he is, and the lengths he has gone to, to have her by his side, it’s shocking.

Suspenseful?

Yes!

But basically, I just wanted to see this b*****d get what he deserves

I had the amazing opportunity to eARC read "I remember you" by Theo Baxter. This book will be published on the 30th of March this year. It's the second book I've read by this author.

This book is categorized in the following genres: mysteries and thrillers and general fiction.

With the title being "I remember you" I kind of expected it to be a cheesy romance thriller but to my surprise it wasn't. Let's dive in.

We're following Aria West, a married artist who lives in a secluded bit of forest in a cabin with a controlling, mentally abusive husband. His ideology of marriage and having a wife is very non feminist. A wife needs to tend to the husbands every need, meals have to be ready at set times, the house needs to be cleaned. And God forbid the world doesn't revolve around your husband. After her accident two years ago Aria is suffering from retrograde amnesia, she doesn't remember anything before waking up at the hospital. Austin, her husband was by her side and nurtured her back to health, but something wasn't quite right..

They had been married for eight years, at least that's what he says. He suffers from agoraphobia, which means they almost never leave the cabin. Everytime she does leave for a meeting with her agent or go grocery shopping, her husband will call to ask why she's taking so long. He'll continuously accuse her of cheating, going so far that he will rage when she returns from a trip.

After having enough of her nightmares and not remembering anything about her live prior to her accident.. She stumbled upon an article about hypnosis and a therapist who specialises in this that isn't to far from her home. She goes regularly and that opens her eyes to how dangerous and controlling her husband is. After a couple of things come to light, she hires a PI.. that's when the story takes a turn and it gets more thrilling. What actually happened to Aria? Was the accident really that? Who even is Austin really?

Read this book to find out!

A gripping thriller that will pull you into the story from the first page. The fast-paced story wastes no time with unnecessary details and filler.

📓Brief Description (Spoiler-Free):
- Aria has no recollection of her past due to a severe head injury.
- She experiences a reoccurring nightmare that makes her question what her life was really like before the trauma.
- Her husband shares what happened, but is it the true story?

❤️ What I Loved:
- It was fast-paced and engaging, I wanted to keep reading to learn more about Aria and her memories.
- It was a familiar and a bit predictable plot, but it made it comforting and think of so many potential outcomes.

🤔 What I Would Change:
- It was written in third person narrative but I wish it was first-person to connect with Aria more deeply.

📚 Recommended For:
- Fans of Freida McFadden or Alice Feeney
- Readers who enjoy fast-paced thrillers with twists and turns to stay engaged.

💭Final Thoughts & Rating:
- I’m so appreciative of NetGalley and Inkubator Books for providing me with the opportunity to review an advanced copy.

I was gripped from beginning to end by this book’s plot. The cabin and surroundings were so visual, as was Aria’s work.

Austin was horribly rude, self-centered, manipulative and not very appreciative at all of her. The fact that he has agoraphobia is no excuse for how he treats her. I wanted information about the physical struggle Aria faces in her recovery from the accident, as that was briefly mentioned but not covered in any detail. She mentions having to be physically cared for, but I’d have liked to have witnessed that.

I felt uneasy, claustrophobic, and curious as well as concerned for both Aria and Austin’s health. I wondered if their marriage would last. I liked the flashbacks to better times between them. There were many points in this novel where I thought Aria should leave Austin.

I felt like I was a part of their life.

I Know You is an immersive, unsettling gripping thriller that kept me interested and was fast paced, yet perfectly detailed so I never feel like I’m losing track of what’s happening.

Thanks to Theo Baxter.

An edge-of-your-seat psychological thriller that kept me hooked from start to finish. It’s a gripping story about Aria, who has no memory of her life before waking up in a hospital after an accident two years ago. She doesn’t remember her husband Austin, her home, or even the accident itself. While Austin initially seems caring and devoted, as the story unfolds, things take a dark and unsettling turn.

What I found absolutely captivating was how Aria starts piecing together her lost memories. She begins to suspect that the life Austin has described, and the person he’s claimed to be isn’t entirely truthful. Her flashbacks to the night of the accident reveal more than she ever imagined, and that sense of discovery made the book impossible to put down.

The tension builds so well throughout the story. Aria’s struggle to reconcile her fragmented memories with the reality around her is intense. The twists and turns kept me guessing.

Aria’s character was a strong one, her resilience and determination to uncover the truth was commendable.

Scary stuff this one! Riveting too! You know something is wrong and the red flag are flying high but you just need to keep with it to really see how deep and dark the betrayal is!

Aria is a lot stronger than she gives herself credit for and liked how the final chapter shows the way she ties everything up in the end despite the journey she's had to take to get there!!

Some good characters in this and one really bad one! Things aren't as clear or obvious although my instinct did tell me the who, just not how or why but that's ok as it all unfolds nicely! The suspense does build at one point and it wasn't clear how things might turn out.

Having read other books by this author, I jumped at the chance to read this one. Wow! There are so many twists. Aria suffers from retrograde amnesia, so any memories before the accident are wiped from her mind. Still, a disturbing nightmare keeps her awake at night.

Is her devoted husband all he claims to be? She finds solace in her studio where she works with clay and other mediums.

When she decides to seek help away from home ... well, that's where even more twists come into the mix.

I'll watch for more books by Theo Baxter.

Every time I pick up this authors books, I am never disappointed. Theo will always be a reliable author who always delivers.
I’m quite sure he ramps up the suspense in every book, this particular book I was hanging on with dear life. This was definitely one of the most atmospheric books that he’s written. I was drawn to a couple of the characters, but mostly Aria, I had a lot of empathy for her. Each individual character was brilliant. This was extremely gripping, I had a few guesses, but like usual no way near any of the answers.

WOW! WAS THIS BOOK UNHINGED! I loved every second of it too! Not going into too much detail but Aria is trying to piece together memories after a terrible accident. Why is her husband being so weird? This book was so good and it kept me on my toes throughout the entire read. Read this if you love psychological suspenseful twists with unreliable narrators. A book full of twisty, spine-chilling suspenseful moments with an ending you won't see coming.

I always enjoy Theo’s books. He has an easy reading style with an engaging plot. The protagonist was either an idiot or a saint to put up with her husband. What makes this interesting is that she has retrograde amnesia and can’t remember anything about her past. She’s no doubt a strong woman. She just has to work through all of the little disasters faced from her husband’s insecurities.

Aria West suffers from retrograde amnesia, with no recollection of her first 30 years. Living in isolation with her agoraphobic and controlling husband, she starts to question everything she’s been told after experiencing intense nightmares. Are these dreams fragments of returning memories? And if so, what do they reveal about the truth she’s been made to believe?

While the premise intrigued me, I found the story highly predictable—I guessed the twist almost immediately and kept hoping for an unexpected turn that never came. Aria’s choices often left me frustrated, making me want to scream at her, though I could understand them given her limited options. Despite my frustrations, I was invested enough to keep reading, eager to uncover the details of her past and see how she would ultimately escape her circumstances.

I'm so happy I've found a new to me author. I love these domestic thrillers and Theo Baxter knows how to keep your attention. I like that he showed these women hating men are really sad unsatisfied losers. I had to stay up late to see what would happen. It is a little predictable but it doesn't ruin the story at all. I'll definitely be ready more from Theo Baxter!

I expect too much out of psychological thrillers, this is better than most, but on the other hand, it is predictable. Aria wakes up from a coma, a successful ceramicist, she is wealthy, able to take care of herself, and she needs to, she is married to a bum, sorry, a writer, only he never produces anything. She is dependent on him for her memory, and Austin, playing the devoted caregiver in the hospital, has now begun showing his true colors. Aria begins having flashbacks, her flashbacks and Austin's feedback don't match, she finally realizes that she needs counseling and the truth about her husband is chilling indeed, but she makes some stupid decisions that lead her into danger, that you can see coming since the second chapter. Still, a good read. I recommend it for those who love psychological thrillers. I tried to give it a 3.5

While writing this, I'm still wondering if I should rate it 5 stars instead. But I guess if I'm hesitating, the answer is probably no. With that said though, this was GREAT.

I love thrillers, I love the fast pace, I love reading about villains who piss me off, I love wondering what the twist is. This one had it all.

I initially started it in the evening, right before bed, thinking I'd do a few chapters. Ended up awake until 1am because I could not put it down. The way the emotions and the confusion with the FMCs amnesia and all that it brings on was described made the whole experience incredibly immersive. I loved the writing style in general but more specifically felt like the mindset of Aria was written so well.

Sure, her choices and actions made me angry. But that's what makes it good. Not even gonna talk about the MMC because I will go into a fit of rage over the disgrace of a human that he was. But once again, written SO well.

The one thing though, that I also feared might happen, and that pulled it down to like a (very strong) 4.5 was the ending. I will spoiler this next part because duh but spoilerfree I will say that it was predictable from about halfway through the book, which in itself didn't even really bother me, but I just dislike those cookie cutter "2 months later" style endings. They're more fitting for romance, I much prefer for my thriller to cut off at a point that gives some resolution but also leaves me wondering how the characters went to live on.

Now for some specifics.

Overall, a very enjoyable experience, just the pacing I wanted from a thriller and I will definitely need to look through the authors other works.

Big thanks to Netgalley for providing this copy in exchange for an honest review.

Theo Baxter did it again. What an amazing storyline that captative you from the very beginning. A fast-paced, emotionally charged thriller that dives deep into trauma, memory, and trust.

Aria, an artist, lost her memory, for the last 30 years after a freak accident and is on a journey to recover those years. She feels a part of her is missing and getting those memories back will make her whole again. Unfortunately. her husband, Austin, is not happy with the idea and persuades her to just live her life in the present. Against his wishes, Aria decides to see a therapist to help her. Sometimes the answer one seeks is not the answer they were looking for or expected.

Theo Baxter writing makes you feel everything Aria is feeling, and it transport you to the event that is taking place. It shows the venerability of those in an abusive relationship and how everything is not black and white. It touches on victims blaming themselves for their spouse problems and how they justify their spouses behaviour. This is books gives you a glimpse into an abusive relationship and how help is always there, you just have to find the courage into yourself and reach for it. It also shows how the brain plays an important role in our daily lives and that those with memory loss faces a lot of struggles in their daily lives. Especially when it comes to having to trust others to help you remember.

Highly recommend for fans of psychological thrillers and for those who like emotional storylines.

Thank you, NetGalley, the author and publisher, for the advance copy for an honest review.

Amnesia, a secluded cabin, and a husband who may or may not be a walking red flag—what could possibly go wrong? In I Remember You, Theo Baxter delivers a psychological thriller that keeps you second-guessing everything, right up to the final, chilling revelation.

Aria West wakes up every day with no past—just a sculptor’s hands, a husband who swears he saved her, and nightmares that whisper otherwise. As Austin’s behavior slides from supportive to suspicious, Aria starts piecing together memories that don’t quite fit. Is she paranoid? Or is she remembering something she was never meant to?

Baxter masterfully ratchets up the tension, making every glance, every conversation, every locked door pulse with unspoken dread. The remote setting adds to the claustrophobia, and Aria’s unraveling reality pulls you in like quicksand. Just when you think you’ve got it figured out—boom. Twist.

If you love psychological thrillers that play with memory, perception, and the terrifying possibility that the person you trust most is lying, I Remember You will keep you hooked. Read it with the lights on—and maybe don’t trust anyone who insists they only want what’s best for you.

Theo Baxter writes really good thriller/suspense novels, and this one is not different. There was a character that was giving me an uneasy feeling right from the beginning and I was right. But, it didn’t ruin the book for me because I didn’t know the why or the how. I kept turning the pages because I wanted to know both of those things. I also really wanted to know how this was going to end for Aria.

This is an enjoyable, entertaining read, but it also sheds light on an important topic. That is, there’s different forms of abuse. It’s not always someone putting their hands on someone. It can be control and manipulation and that is what happens in this book. The signs are not always easy to see either. And while Aria seeing a therapist was mainly to get her memory back, I really like how involved the therapist was in this book.

So while this book doesn’t really have a huge twist or reveal, wanting to know the whole story is what keeps you turning the pages. I’d probably describe this as a popcorn thriller. So if those books are the types that you like, definitely check this one out!
