It was supposed to be a beautiful white lily, but the big grumpy tattoo artist had something else in mind.
Only, he didn’t freaking tell me before he got started.
When it’s time for the big reveal, I don’t see a pretty flower.
I see his name.
Tattooed across the back of my shoulder.
He says I’m his.
That I’m his mate.
My friends tell him to go to hell.
That we’re suing.
But this grouchy beast isn’t shaken.
He doesn’t care one bit.
He keeps saying that he’s marked me, so I belong to him now.
The worst thing is, I think he may be right.
This can’t be happening.
Fate can’t be so cruel as to bind me to a jerk like him.
I can’t be mated to this big grumpy bear shifter, can I?
CAN I???

Julian is a grizzly and at the moment highly irratated. He with his two siblings own Heat & Ink. He's putting a tattoo one a female who is newly mated with her mate right by her. It just gets him irratated because he wants his mate. Lainey is with her two besties heading to an obscure tattoo shop. A celebration of finally graduating college. When they arrive Magnus gets info on what they want and designates who will be the artist to tattoo them. Only when Julian enters and his eyes land on Lainey he stares. Lainey is drowning in his eyes.Julian's bear has found his mate. Finally. He will be the one to tattoo this female named Lainey. His sister gives him the stencil she made of the flower Lainey wants on her shoulder. But as he starts his bear takes over and it's his name that he tattoos on her. When her friends see it they go ballistic. The only problem is that no one asked Lainey how she felt about it. She is mesmerized. There's something between the two of them she felt when their eyes met. But she's pulled out of the shop and pushed into the car. Later while her friends are still freaking out and making contact with other friends and a lawyer, Lainey gives them an excuse for her borrowing the car. She leaves and heads back to the shop. She has to find out what's going on and why her mind is so fixated on the man Julian. Will they finally be able to talk? How will Julian explain his duality...man and grizzly. Better yet how will Lainey explain it to her friends? OMG! This book is so dang cute. The shifters always yearn for their mates but it seems no one ever taught them what to do once they meet!! Maybe a class in how to approach your mate? A must read as the pair go through various stages of realization...well not so much him but she's human.

Dnf. Once I read that the FMC equated virginity with purity, so much so that she wanted a tattoo (!!) of a lily to represent to her future whatever that she was “pure”, I saw the FMC as a sanctimonious little prig. Nothing wrong with being a 22-year old virgin, but judging her cock-sucking BFFs as “impure”? No thanks.
'No, I need my mate. I need her like I need skin. She’s a part of me that’s been ripped off. I’m empty without her. I need need need her.'
'I want to get a white lily on the back of my shoulder. I told the girls it was my favorite flower, which it is, but the tattoo means more to me than that. It’s a present for my future soulmate. It’s a symbol of my purity and commitment to him. A gift to let him know that I waited for him to arrive... I can’t imagine doing anything with someone who’s not meant to be mine.'
I enjoyed this book. I loved that the grizzly bear siblings all work together in the tattoo shop. I loved the tattoo Lainey wanted. I thought it was sweet and meaningful. The chemistry between the two is instant.
“It’s nice to finally meet you,” he says, staring at me with a look of wonder. “I’ve been waiting a long time for you.” 'I shiver when we finally let go. I don’t know what he’s talking about, but in a way, I do. It feels like I’ve been waiting a long time for him too.'
I know it's meant to be over the top, and they are fated, but I didn't like that Julian just tattooed his name on her without permission. I liked the angle that his bear was pushing through and he just couldn't stop, but it felt violating rather than sexy-possessive. I also didn't care for Lainey's complete emotionless response at the time, and then feeling horny looking at it later- especially when the tattoo she wanted wasn't random but something that held significance to her and the message she wanted to portray to her future husband.
I did like that she left to find him because she wanted to talk to him. And after that meeting and them talking, I liked the story a little better.
I was impressed Julian was able to forcibly rein his bear in while on a run. I think this is the first book when the man was able to forcibly assert control over the animal while it's out and in control- it's usually the opposite. I loved his brother Magnus and sister Victoria. I also liked Lainey's friends, though I get the sense they were meant to cause chaos with their reactions more than anything else, since we never get any on-page scenes with them and Lainey. Their reactions are what I would consider normal lol I also liked the newlywed couple and how that turned out, and Curt the male stripper was amusing.
Young virgin female that's never done anything? ✔️
Using the word virgin like it's a verb? ✔️
The fmc magically read online about shifters but only got as far as they have mates because she has no idea why her neck is tingling? ✔️
Mmc fucks her and then loses control of his grizzly, and then marks her? Wait.. what? Something different? That doesn't make sense!
Mmc goes down on her first? Whaaaat??? Something else new? She went down on him first? What bizzaro book am I reading by this author?
All jabs aside it was nice to see a little something different in her books, even if 90% of the book is basically wash, rinse and repeat from all her others.
I am excited though to read about Victoria, if there is a book for her because it would be the first book I read where the fmc is a shifter in this author's books and not another 19 year old human girl. I hope she actually does get paired with a shifter male because I certainly don't want to just read role reversal for her book.
Anyway, the book was fine. Not fantastic, not bad, just right down the middle fine and I think it's honestly more to do with the mentality of you read one, you've basically read them all because they all have the same patterns, especially that the shifters are always male grizzlies, the females are always young humans, they are both virgins, etc... Would be nice to see other shifters or situations, or even that the females are shifters too so that we don't get the same "oh I read about shifters online, they have mates" reasoning behind them understanding who the mmc actually is. I just... I love shifter books but I need more than the same copy and paste reworded book, you know? I mean was the book enjoybable? Yes, it just still left me wanting more. Something new so here is hoping Victoria will be more interesting.
And please, PLEASE stop with the 2 epilogues. I don't need to know they have 5 kids 15 years later or whatever... one epilogue is seriously enough to know they are happy.
On a side note of sorts, I will say I laughed out loud when he tattooed his name on her instead of the flower she asked for.

This was so fun! I absolutely loved this bear shifter and his growly ways and the girl always meant to be his! OTT kept me entertained from start to finish once again and this time we're in Montana ad a tattoo shop run by siblings. Each character has their own distinct personality and I absolutely loved the whole idea of their tattoo shop.
Three friends come to town for a tattoo and upon meeting, he and his girl can't tear their eyes away from one another. Is it time? Has he found his one? And why does she feel drawn to him as well? His grizzly was giving him a harder time of it and upon meeting her finally, he can't control himself anymore. And tattoos his name on Jer skin instead.
I absolutely loved this! One thing with this one, she felt the pull like he did and didn't shy away. I loved that despite being human, her senses were so attuned to him that she brought herself to him. What followed was so steamy, so raw and so intense! I love the fated mates concept and Olivia delivered once more! I was given an ARC copy for free and happily volunteered this review. Their whole love story was so sweet and romantic and yet primal and hot! They make a great pairing and I am so happy that they got that great HEA together that they both deserved. What a fitting note to send us off on, this was another fun and yummy read from an author I can depend on. I loved this!

All three women left vowing to sue but Lainey can’t stop thinking about Julian. Will Lainey go back to the tattoo shop? Will Julian fix her tattoo? Will Lainey realize that she is the fated mate to Julian? Will Julian and Lainey find love and happiness together with their family? I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book.
He is a grumpy tattoo artist. Grumpy because he is getting frustrated waiting to find his mate. He knows she is out there and his bear is calling for her. She appears when he least expects it. Coming into the tattoo parlor with her friends for a tattoo. Instead of the lily he was supposed to be tattooing on her, his instincts take over and he tattoos his name on her. Her friends are horrified and threaten to sue, but she is drawn to him. She felt her neck tingle the second she walked in the door. She didn't know what it meant but she knows it means something. She can't stop staring at him, she feels the connection. They feel the pull of their fate, and once he kisses her for the first time, there is no stopping the inevitable. They are mates. They will mate for life, and they both know it. This is a hot and fast story. You don't get a lot of back story, but enough to have you rooting for them. Their passion is overwhelming and consuming, and takes them straight to their happily ever after.

Marked by the Grouchy Grizzly by Olivia T. Turner is part of the Heat and Ink Series
Julian and his siblings run a very successful tattoo shop that he is currently working on ruining. His current mood and temperament have left some customers less than thrilled with his service. Julian, however, could care less as he and his inner grizzly have one thing on their mind, his yet to be located mate. This has caused his siblings to lose patience and him to be incredibly grouchy.
Lainey and a few of her friends have just graduated from university and decided to take a short road trip to a popular tattoo shop to commemorate their accomplishment. She has no idea how her life will change and that she is going to get so much more than the flower she asks for.
This is a fast-paced, short, sweet, and steamy read. I am always a fan of OTT's writing, and this was no exception. There is also the perfect setup for future stories featuring Julian's siblings.
ARC was provided by Booksprout, and this is my honest review.
Let me start by saying that I am a massive fan of Olivia T. Turner's writing style, character development, storylines, and how her books flow because they are so well written! This book is part of a multi-author three-book series, Heat & Ink. I enjoyed the story of Lainey and Julian, which delved into how difficult it was for Julian to be without his mate and how his grizzly made him grouchy and challenging. Lainey is the complete opposite of Julian; she is all things light, pure, and innocent (but she has a wild side hidden deep, waiting to be unleashed by her soulmate!) I don't want to give away too much about the book, but I highly recommend it and Olivia T. Turner's other books and series—they are all fantastic!

Julian is a tattoo artist and grizzly bear shifter. He runs a tattoo shop along with his older brother and younger sister. They have noticed a change in his attitude lately. He is grumpier than usual. His grizzly is searching and longing for his mate. Lainey just finished college. She and her friends are getting their first tattoo to celebrate. She requested a lily and ended up with Julian’s name tattooed on her shoulder. What happens next is pure chaos. Julian can’t explain what happened, his brother and her friends are pissed. What about Lainey, how does she feel having this big mountain of a man claim her. Will she ever forgive him or will his bear go feral because of his blunder. This is a great short read. I love how possessive the grizzly is. He just takes over and claims Lainey as his. Lainey is so in awe over Julian.
Julian is a grumpy, bear shifter and a tattoo artist. Who has been getting even more grumpy, looking for his mate. Julian owns and runs a tattoo shop in Montana with his brother and sister. A short, steamy love at first bite fated mates love story. Julian is a bear shifter and runs a tattoo shop with his siblings, he’s grumpy and grouchy as he is yet to find his mate until one day she literally walks in to his shop and throws him for a loop. His bear makes him permanently mark her in more ways than one. Lainey is celebrating the end of uni with her friends and wants a tattoo to mark the occasion, she’s sunny, happy and innocent but doesn’t know what her future holds until she meets Julian and somehow knows he is her forever.. This was fun to read with great sibling and friends side characters and plenty steamy too . Amazing epilogues as we glimpse the happy soulmates future. Would be interested to see if his siblings find their mates too.
Marked By The Grouchy Grizzly by Olivia T. Turner. I absolutely loved Marked By The Grouchy Grizzly! This book is a perfect blend of steamy, possessive romance and shifter magic, delivering a fast-paced and addictive read. Their chemistry is undeniable, and the story keeps you hooked from start to finish. If you love fated mates, possessive heroes, and sizzling tension, this book is a must-read!.

Julian being the middle sibling just couldn't find it within his grizzly to be calm, and relaxed about waiting for his mate. That Bear didn't want to be told, be patient, she'll come. So when she finally does, he loses his cool, and compromises with the bear, that he can't bite her in front of customers, so his name would do! It didn't, and while Lainey seems to know they belong together, her friends were clueless to the potent connection they feel for each other, immediately. Fortunately, it all works out, and Lainie knows exactly how to make his Bear behave, in public that is. Privately, she lets him have his way, and loves every single minute of his grizzly behaviour. Sweet HEA ending!
This was great for what it is: a quick light hearted story for when you only have an afternoon to read or want something to cleanse the palate. I love that there wasn't really any misunderstanding between the two main characters causing a fight or break up. However, it never said how her friends handled her being mated or if she ever had that actual conversation about him being a bear shifter. It just that they were shocked she started dating the man that tattooed his name on her, so it felt a little unfinished. I don't feel the need to buy this one, but it was worth the read, and I could see buying it in the future if I keep thinking about it. I'm also curious to see how his siblings find their mates and if her 2 friends have their own stories.
“God, I could sink into this kiss forever. This moment, this man, this kiss… it feels like home. It feels… right.”
I volunteer to surrender my tattoo v-card if I can get a mate like Julian!! Swoon-worthy, steamy story with a strong and protective bear shifter tattoo artist who finally finds his fated mate when Lainey comes in for some ink with her girlfriends. She finds out he is not only good with his hands with other things as well 😉. Instalove all around and I didn’t want it to end. Smirked through the sibling interactions and as always the epilogues are icing on the 🎂.

Olivia’s shifters are so back!!! ______________________ I'm so happy we got more shifters from Olivia!
This tattoo artist shifter was having the worst time, needing his mate until, boom, she showed up! Poor Julian was so sweet and down bad from minute one. He couldn't control his impulses, but honestly, I didn't want him to, and thank god Lainey didn't want that either!
Lainey was so brave and also open to their connection! I loved the fact that she didn't once deny it or try to resist it. And her not even being mad at the tattoo made me even happier, like girl yes, that's your man for life!!
Julian has been a grumpy grizzly his whole life. His bear is impatient to find their mate, but he has no idea where to even start looking. Then one day a lady comes in to the shop for her first tattoo, and he knows she's his. Lainey went to Heat and Ink with her best friends. She's suppose to be getting a white lily on the shoulder, but ends up.wkth Julian's name instead.
A fast paced, insta-love, hot and steamy, fated mates, shifter novella. Just make sure you have a cool drink handy for those spicy hot scenes.

What I love about Olivia's stories is that they are always short, sweet, steamy, fun, pure escapism with a lovely happily ever after. 'Marked by the Grouchy Grizzly' was all of these things and more. I loved the instant attraction between Julian and Lainey and the way Lainey's arrival transformed Julian's grizzly bear. Julian's family and Lainey's friends were a lot of fun and I would love to read future stories involving Julian's siblings who have yet to find their mates. This story left me feeling hot and happy - a lovely feel-good read.
