Two kids go on a wild rumpus journey towards bedtime set to the tune of "A Hunting We Will Go."
This book is wild and zany, but I definitely see how the various activity can parallel real going to bed routines. Kids will love the crazy illustration and rhythm of the book. Kellogg wrote a nice note on the history of the folk song in the back that was interesting. Recommended for bedtimes that are anything but peaceful.
Steven Kellogg seems to have quite a bit of fun coming up with new lines for the ancient song: A-hunting we will go. Illustrated in his classic style, you could have a fun sing before bed picking up on picture clues to find the rhyme, use this one to teach rhyme, or even write some of your own lines.
This is a rollicking, entertaining story to read with younger children. The illustrations are colorful and cartoonish and kids will love the rhythm and repetition of the lyrics. We enjoyed reading this book together (even though our girls are a bit old for a book like this - they humored me...) Great for bedtime, as long as the kiddos don't get too stimulated by the energetic song.
This is a fun read for both parent and child. My kids have read it with us so many times it is literally starting to disintegrate, and they still haven't grown tired of it. I'm considering buying another one, if this one finally falls apart.
This book is really cool and funny to read . this book have bright colors and ever animal you can name. if you don't like reading you would like reading this book it has rhymes and very fun lines to read its a n easy book and i think any age would have fun reading it
I loved this book! I would definitely bring this into my classroom. The students would enjoy it because it is a book but also a rhyme and something they could sing along too! I would do this at story time because I think the students would love to participate.
This book was confusing but i liked it. It has many rhymes. The characters are awesome, I really love the characters. This book was not that bad. The book was not boring at all.
3.) Summary: This story follows a little boy and girl on a hunting adventure before they go to sleep. As they sing the song, they find a moose, goose, and other animals. After the kids have caught more animals, they get tired and return home to take a bath. They hug their parents and go to sleep with all their animal friends in their dream.
4.) Review: I was not a huge fan of this book as I felt it had too much going on on each page. I thought the illustrations could have been a little simpler. I did like how the author decided to incorporate test from the story in speech bubbles and sign posts, yet I feel like this would be very confusing for a child to read the story chronologically as they might miss certain sections with text that are very small. Overall, I feel as if this book could be a little less complex.
5.) Uses in the classroom:
• Spot rhyming words • Have children count the amount of animals the kids caught • After reading the book one time, read the book again and have kids pay close attention to the illustrations. Have them spot things the teacher did not point out during the first read-aloud.
