Sometimes the only way to salvation... is to take a leap of faith.

What would you do if you had no place to go and no one you could trust?

"The lyrics are about you, Lena," he confessed, and I watched his mouth as the tip of his tongue moistened his lips before he leaned his head down. Then those beautiful lips were on mine, soft, tender at first, then his tongue glided over my lips, breaking the seal. My pulse throbbed and quickened as his tongue swirled around mine. Taking and controlling, and... and I wanted this, needed his touch. I went limp in his embrace, and the heat rose under my skin, my body vibrated against his strong powerful one. Was this really happening?"

Jackson Beaumont prides himself on being a nature-loving, guitar-strumming, carefree sort of guy. When the mysterious Lena Benton walks into his bar looking scared and defeated, it's not something he can ignore. He's immediately consumed by concern for her and driven by his desire to help. She's just so beautiful. So wounded.

After being shuffled from one foster home to another growing up, Lena Benton dreamt of finding her prince charming. When the captivating Troy Harington sweeps her off her feet shortly after high school graduation, she's certain she's found her happiness. Unfortunately, Troy's true colors surface shortly after their marriage and things turn ugly. Lena only has one choice. She has to leave him. She has to run...

1.5 very disappointing stars
Last night I was in the mood to read the hero saves abused heroine trope. I really wanted a military/fighter hero but after searching for an hour and a half of searching I settled for this because it was the closest freebie I could find. This "sweet sensitive" hero was kind of a creep. He would say oh hey i need to give her space let her come to me. Then he would crowd her knowing he'd made her uncomfortable but never apologize and also saying things like "you know i'd never hurt you." Well how the hell is she supposed to know that? You know she just left an abusive relationship you're crowding her space with full knowledge that you shouldn't be and that you're scaring her. Sounds a lot like she left a severely abusive relationship for a controlling one. The book was otherwise decent. Ok writing despite some broad liberties taken with the legal system. Decent plot though the big climactic ending was...less than climactic. The heroine did find her feet which is my favorite part of this trope but the hero skeezed me out so much that I'm a little surprised I finished this

Beautifully Wounded was the first book in the Beaumont Brothers series by Susan Griscom. This was also my first book by the author. It focused on the eldest brother, Jackson Beaumont.

Jackson was a helper and a healer to strays....stray animals and stray people. Although gorgeous and all male, he had a kind and generous heart. Enter Lena.

The book opened with an introduction to Lena’s life. It was a tough subject and difficult to witness. The author took us through Lena’s challenges, how Jackson and Lena met, and solutions to her predicament. No spoilers so no elaboration, but it was a serious read and anything but lighthearted. With that said, I wouldn’t have wanted any more detail into the challenges that were already described, but I was craving more depth, dimension and development. Otherwise, it was a good opening to the series. Next up is Jackson’s younger brother, Brody, in Beautifully Used.

*I purchased this as part of the boxed set The Beaumont Brothers Complete Series. I am reviewing each book separately as I read it and will then provide an overall rating under the boxed set for the entire series.

Another swing and a miss. I was never expecting a lot from this, but after reading the beginning, I was given hope that this may become something greater than I assumed. Given my rating however, you can see that that was not the case. The characters were just annoying, they didn’t feel developed, nor did they feel realistic. There was also zero chemistry which made the “romantic” and sex scenes just a hassle.

Where shall I even begin? I am sorry to say this, but I hated the main character in the beginning. I was close to giving up because she annoyed me that much. And I'm sorry but this book / the story is very illogical at times. Also, there's nothing positive to say about the romance cause really there's only some instalust and instalove and instatrust which can in no way be considered believable.
And the rest about this novel (like the romance) is just so goddamn cliché. But what probably annoyed me most is how the characters are either black or white, with no shades of grey in between. They are either good or bad and that's it - nothing like in real life.

Now, I only have one last (though important) thing to criticize. This novel is about domestic violence which means there's rape and other types of physical violence that the main character has to endure from her husband. So having experienced this, the MC is obviously traumatized and NO you don't just meet a nice guy and yay you're already over everything you experienced only a few weeks ago. To overcome abusive experiences like these there's therapy needed and a lot of time. So the way this situation is portrayed in this novel is not how it is in reality. And this makes me a little furious cause if you write a book about domestic violence you shouldn't simply use it to give the romance some background story. There is more psychological depth needed to do something like this justice. Domestic violence is something that - unfortunately - occurs far more often that you'd think and I'm glad there are books focusing on this topic. Unfortunately, this novel doesn't really treat this topic in the way it should be treated and with too little depth and profound psychological background.

*Spoiler* I have the same complaint about how murder out of self defense (or was it really self defense??) is treated in this novel. Like it doesn't really affect you that much or has any real consequences at all.

So, no I didn't like this book. In fact, it only annoyed me and made me kind of furious.

I was lucky enough to get to beta read this book. It is my favorite book by Susan Griscom so far and that is saying a lot. I love her work and Beautifully Wounded surpassed my expectations.

Lena is a woman who has found herself in a very abusive marriage. An intense scene in the first chapter painted a very clear portrait of a relationship gone dangerous. Susan's descriptions brought the story to life for me. I felt as if I was in the house with Lena and my heart raced with each second she had to endure her husband Troy's wrath. I applauded when she finally gained the courage to run. From that point on I was emotionally vested in Lena's journey.

Jackson is a man who feels the need to help the helpless. He loves nature and has helped many injured animals recover, releasing them back into the wild. He feels the same desire when a battered Lena walks through the doors of his pub. He can't seem to control his need to protect and help this injured woman. I fell for Jackson immediately. His gentle and loving nature, his guitar playing and all around sexy nature pulled me in.

Beautifully Wounded is a story filled with hope. After living through dark times, Lena begins to experience the beauty life and love has to offer. I couldn't put this book down. Susan opened my heart and mind in this beautifully descripted story. I am eagerly awaiting the second book in this series! A truly beautiful story that I think everyone should read.

*Complimentary copy provided by the author in exchange for an honest review.*

Two weeks after getting married Lena discovers she made a horrible mistake. Her husband, Troy, becomes extremely controlling and starts hitting her. Lena never thought she would end up in this situation, feeling weak, with a man having complete and utter control over her.

After a long night of drinking, Troy comes home and takes his aggression out on Lena. She knows if she doesn't get away, he's going to end up killing her. She is able to flee, but doesn't know if she left him dead or alive. After driving for hours, she finds herself sitting in a bar in a small town.

Jackson is the owner of the bar. He's hot, extremely kind, plays the guitar and wants nothing more than to help Lena. This is the part of the story that I struggled with. I just couldn't understand how she could be so trusting of another man so soon after fleeing an abusive relationship. It was sweet that Jackson wanted to take care of her and offered her a place to stay, but it was too soon for me to find believable. Overall, I liked the story and the dual POV, told from Lena and Jackson.

Received this in return for an honest review.

I've not heard of this author until I signed up to review as part of a blog tour. I'm so delighted I signed up.
The Fawn is an emotional rollercoster of a story. Although this is a romantic book there is domestic abuse in it oh and a brilliant storyline!!

To save her life Lena runs away from everything and everyone she knows. She walks into Jackson's bar. The friendship/relationship between these two is brilliant to read. I'm not going into details about this story but I will say it's gripping and I read it in one day.
I did wonder why this book was called the Fawn. When I read it I totally agreed with the name.

I'm so so looking forward to reading book 2 which is Brodie's story. As Jackson's brother I really want to read more about him & I'm hoping we get more of Lena and Jackson in book 2 as well.

Highly recommend this book.

Such an amazing book i loved reading it! Most authors are scared to talk about abuse but i think every women out there needs to know there is always someone where to go...

This book is about a 20 year old women that thought she fell in love and got married. Not even a week after being married things changed for the worse. There was always signs but she was to scared to tell anyone what was really happening. Finally Lena got to a breaking point when Troy went to far and was going to take her life so the only thing she could do was run.

Jackson seen Lena and could not help himself he had to help this beautiful young women that was broken. Jackson told Lena he would protect her but at what cost?

The Fawn had me turning its pages until the very end. It's a very touching, emotional and gripping story that many fans of the genre will enjoy.

Lena found herself in a unwanted and very dangerous situation. After some time and planning, she found a way to get out of it, for good! It was a dangerous idea, but she'll finally be free of all of the verbal, physical, emotional and spiritual abuse she's been tolerating for too long.
Lena needs to stay far away from him, the area, friends and all in order to be rid of the treatment once and for all. Is it possible for her or is it all just a pipe dream?

I have to say that I felt as if I was reading a true story as a was reading. It's a very realistic story and kept my attention to the very end!

Quite readable but fairly predictable on how the story would unfold. Kudos for tackling the subject of domestic violence, the opening was fairly graphic but necessary to set up the character of Lena. Jackson was just a bit too perfect, I like my hero to have a few flaws!

It's the 1st book I've read by Susan Griscom, but it most definitely will NOT be the last one I read!
Susan Griscom’ s newest book, “The Fawn”, (Book 1 in her new series, The Beaumont Brothers), eloquently scaled the staircase of human emotions; despair, fear, flight/fight, re-birth, and ultimately the blossoming of a young woman, Lena Harrington, who becomes someone she likes, and experiences not only the ability to give true love, but also to accept true love. The latter is not an easy thing to accomplish after being the victim of brutal domestic abuse. “The Fawn” opens up with Lena’s abusive marriage to her husband, Troy, and his most vicious attack that leads to her flight from him occurring faster than she’d planned. So, with nothing but a raincoat, a little savings and a new ID, Lena takes off and randomly stops in Turtle Lake and into Jackson Beaumont’s life. Jackson owns the pub and grille that Lena walks into looking for a cup of coffee and maybe a lead on some work. But she’s battered, exhausted, and scared to death-all recognized by Jackson. He recognizes she’s physically and emotionally hurt, in trouble and needs help, but more importantly, he recognizes the fact she’s extremely scared and one wrong move from him will send her bolting out of the door, and out of his life.
“The Fawn” takes a true look at domestic violence, how easily it can creep into someone’s life and how quickly it can control it. In college I was required to be trained as a court advocate for victims of domestic violence, and I applaud Griscom for how accurately she formulated the path taken by the abuser to isolate and control the spouse. Even more so, I was thrilled that not once did I read the words “why didn’t you leave him” or “how could you let someone do that to you” or “why didn’t you take up for yourself” or “I would never have let someone treat me like that.” The omission of anything remotely resembling these comments shows Griscom’s knowledge of this terrible subject. It’s the first thing as an advocate of domestic violence you’re taught-NEVER make these sorts of comments to a victim. Not only are you further victimizing them by doing so, you’re further pushing them into the false opinion that everything concerning the domestic abuse is their fault. Again, I applaud Griscom’s lack of character in her novel using anything remotely resembling these comments. I also applaud her developing Jackson’s character into one who is keenly aware of how psychologically damaging domestic violence/abuse is on the victim and how extraordinarily careful a man (or woman if the roles are reserved, and yes, men are also victims of domestic abuse) must be to help a woman overcoming an abusive relationship (which is highly similar to Post-Traumatic Syndrome).
Griscom creates a wonderful story of patience, trust-building, friendship, and ultimately love that forms between Lena and Jackson. One that is believable. “ The Fawn” is not only a good romantic story, it is also one that could very possibly build hope in the mind of someone who, like Lena, desperately and deservingly needs a new life surrounded by love and friendship instead of fear and violence.
I was also pleasantly entertained by how the title of the book fell into place from a childhood memory of Jackson’s-I don’t want to give out any spoilers, but it’s just another point of how clever Griscom was in writing this story. I would encourage anyone (from 18 years and older) to read this book.
And, btw, I read this book twice last week, finishing the second reading Saturday, March 22, 2014.

(And I look forward to reading “Rejected”, Book 2 in The Beaumont Brothers Series, about Jackson’s very different brother, Brodie!)

**JOSIE'S REVIEW**

The Fawn is a very deep an emotional read and it grabs you right from the start. I am changing the way I do my review for this book because it was touching. In the Fawn we meet Lena, and right from the first page, you are left with a gut wrenching and gripping moment. I was so overwhelmed with grief, sadness and anger. Lena finally finds the strength and courage to leave her abusive, husband Troy.

“Get out of my bed you worthless slut. Who you been f**king so you don’t want me anymore? You think you have get a better lay than me? You’re mistaken. Nobody else will have you. Nobody else wants you. You’re a stinking whore! That’s what you are.”

When I read the blurb to The Fawn, it caught my interest, although Domestic Violence is not an easy subject to write, Susan Griscom did a great job. There were times that I felt sick but I knew there was a purpose to these scenes. At the start of the book you will cry and feel every ounce of pain Lena is going through. I had to put my kindle down a couple times to regroup and calm down. I was not sure if I was going to be able to finish, but I was so glad that I kept going. This book is not only abuse, but about survival, self-journey and finding true love.

Lena is hurt really badly but she knows she has to keep going. She comes across a bar with the door open, and there she meets Jackson. Jackson is every woman’s Knight and Shining armor. I immediately fell in love with him. Jackson was protective, caring and patient. He knew there was something more to what Lena told him and he was determined to help her.

“Shhh, you were dreaming. It’s okay, he’s not here. He can’t hurt you now. What Lena? What don’t I understand? Tell me. I’ll help you. Please trust me. I promise you can trust me.”

“He’ll kill me.”

Jackson offers Lena a place stay and heal close to him and his brother Brodie. I swear I loved Jackson! He became my hero!!! When Lena tells him the truth about that tragic night, I added him to BBF list.

“That must have been very hard to do. I’m glad you were so brave.”

“I’ve been scared to breathe. It’s taken me a whole year to save money and get the courage to leave. If he hadn’t beaten me so badly the other morning, I would still be there.”

“But you did get out. You had to endure hell first, but you did get out. That takes courage. You should be proud of yourself.”

Lena found the strength to become the woman she was before, with the help of Jackson, Troy and her new friends. I loved the way Lena and Jackson’s relationship was a slow build and not rushed. The author gave Lena’s character the time to heal and strengthen. Lena learned that not everyone was Troy, and that she can truly be loved. Please note, some scenes in this book are hard to handle but I will say that the author did an incredible job with the story. I found myself praising Lena’s character for her journey and her growth.

“I love you, Lena, you know that? I think I fell for you the moment you walked in my bar.”

“Good, because I’m not going anywhere. I happen to love you too.”

Synopsis

Lena Harington a.k.a. Lana Martin is on the run for her life. After experiencing
hurt, both physically and mentally by her husband Troy she has finally figured
out a way to leave him. She never wanted to be like her mother, a broken spirit
and body at the hands of a man, but that is exactly what she has become. Now on
the run after a final horrendous night with Troy, Lena finds herself on a journey
to hide and not be discovered hundreds of miles away from her home. With no
clothes on underneath a rain coat, no phone, and little money she finds herself
battered and bruised walking into a bar at 9 in the morning hoping for a cup of
coffee before she moves on, only to discover not everything is what it appears
to be. Will her scars ever heal in the wake of danger or will she run again.

Jackson Beaumont only wants to play music and sit on the sidelines as his
brother runs his bar. Happy and content in his sleepy little town he never
expected the tiny, battered women to walk into his bar on a morning he wasn't
supposed to there but can't not be happy that he is. Known around town to help
the wounded animals, he see's the most wounded one he has ever found and wants
to do nothing but heal her, but will she let him?

A sleepy town, a new found friendship, a bloodhound, and a guitar can these two
find what the other is looking for?

My take

I gave this story 4 stars, why not 5 you ask? Well, it was a great story and one
that should inspire woman who are in abusive situations to find a way out. Not
necessarily the way that Lena did but a way out non the less. It was well
written, story flowed and very few drawn out spots, but and this is my personal
opinion. Jackson lacked the alpha-male protectiveness that I like. While he was
great looking, tatted, and very sweet. He was just to passive for me. He wanted
to help Lena and he did throughout the entire book, but he just sort of rolled
over. I get that abused women have to not be pushed (figuratively, not physically)
but I just felt that he lacked a certain alpha-male quality.

I really enjoyed this book and it was very much worth reading and I am excited
about the second installment (his brother's story)but that is why it got 4 out
of 5 stars. Enjoy the book and find out what happens when Lena puts it all on
the line.

Our Review, by LITERAL ADDICTION's Pack Alpha - Chelle:
*copy gifted for an honest review

Beautifully Wounded (formerly The Fawn) was a wonderfully gripping story about rising above oppression, finding salvation, discovering beauty and joy in the little things, and the transformative properties of true love...

A contemporary new adult romance, Beautifully Wounded follows Lena through her journey as she escapes from a terribly abusive husband and finally strikes out on her own, all the way to where she is able to find the love she truly deserves, both from herself and from another.

Touching on a subject that isn't much used in fiction because it's oftentimes hard to read, Beautifully Wounded starts with scenes of domestic abuse. While gut-wrenching in their intensity, the scenes are integral to setting up Lena's story and her motivation and mindset for the rest of the book. There are times within this first part of the book that you will become breathless and want to look away. You will hate and rail and wonder if the author is writing from experience. I asked, and the answer is no (thank goodness!), but what that all means is that the writing is superb and done with such finesse, it immediately sucks you in.

As Lena's journey leads her farther away from her abusive husband and out onto her own, she ultimately ends up finding Jackson, and let me just say that you will immediately add another book boyfriend to your list of favorites!

Lena and Jackson's story is sweet, emotional, and a truly enjoyable read. One thing I will note is that the pace of the story, given the subject matter that builds the heroine's character, is a bit rushed, but it's a work of fiction and there are only so many pages to work with, especially if the meat of the story is supposed to be the romance. Susan couldn't have changed this without adding a lot of no action time slips or uncomfortable parts of the book that wouldn't be light enough for an NA romance. It's called out in the beginning of the book before the acknowledgments that it's a work of fiction and in no way meant to be a realistic journey of a true battered wife. I hope that readers will keep this in mind while reading, because outside of the fact that yes, Lena and Jack do end up falling in love quickly, it's a romance book, and that's what we're all hoping for, isn't it!?

I would definitely recommend this book for fans of sweet contemporary romance with some danger and intrigue thrown in for good measure.

The blurb influenced my decision to read this title. I read the author's work prior to this, but that was in the paranormal genre and I was curious to see how she would handle the contemporary romance genre. She did not disappoint and I have concluded that BEAUTIFULLY WOUNDED by Susan Griscom is the type of story that will own your heart and have you thinking about it for several days yet.

I knew from the moment I began reading that I would be embarking on an emotional journey. From the very first paragraph readers are transported into a tension-filled environment that has you biting your nails as the scenes unfold. This story tugged on my heart and held me in its grip until the very end.

One cannot help but feel and see what Lena went through at the hands of her abuser.

"You think you can get a better lay than me? You're wrong. Nobody else will have you. Nobody else wants you. You're a stinking dirty whore! That's what you are."

It made me sad and angry. Lena's strength and courage in the midst of her abusive environment was remarkable. I admired her determination to get away from it all. She recognized that as long as she remains she was one step closer to receiving the same fate as her mother. She was determined that she would not be a statistic. Her courage opened new doors to a life that she never thought possible. A life where she would find unconditional love. I was eager to discover where her journey would lead her.

Jackson is the type of person who is always seeking to help the wounded, be it human or animal. As such, it was only natural that upon seeing Lena he would want to help her. From the moment she walked through the door of his pub, he knew that she was running away from her demons. He is caring, warm and selfless. It was these characteristics that pulled Lena in and led to her opening up to him about all she had been through. He was determined to keep her safe. He was so sweet and patient with her.

BEAUTIFULLY WOUNDED is more than a romance. It's a story of survival, hope, patience, self-discovery, healing, and friendship. The story was well written and it flowed well. It is evident that the author poured out all she had into this story. I liked the fact that it was told from a dual POV. I was able to gain more insight into what each character was thinking and feeling.

If you are in the mood for a story that will engage your emotions, then give this title a try. -Review originally posted athttp://www.theromancereviews.com/view...

This was a beautiful and very emotional book. I really enjoyed it and couldn't put it down. Lena is such a strong character but she has no idea about her own strength, she puts her self down so much due to the abusive relationship she's suffered through for the last year but (as Jackson pointed out) the fact that she finally defended herself and ran from her abusive ex took a lot of courage and strength. She's plagued by thoughts of her ex finding her and killing her for daring to hit back and run. She slowly heals in the book, physically and emotionally/psychologically thanks to Jackson's care and patience.

I adored Jackson, he was exactly what Lena needed to show her there were good men in the world and that Troy was the exception more so then the normal. Jackson fell hard for Lena and was very considerate of her feelings and what she needed to heal. He really helped her and they were well matched together, as Lena muses at one point it really is a shame she didn't meet Jackson before Troy.

The book deals well with the subject of domestic abuse. I think Lena recovered quicker then most abused women and entered a relationship quicker but she didn't endure it as long as most and though she admits to making excuses for the abuse at times she also never intended to stay with him. From the first time he really hit her and threatened her in their home she'd begun making plans to escape. She understood about the dangers of domestic abuse having witnessed her own mother beaten to death by her step-father. She truly was so much stronger then she believed herself to be.

I look forward to the second book in this series to learn more about Jackson's brother Brodie. Jackson hinted at Brodie having been hurt by a past girlfriend which is the reason he currently never sleeps with the same girl more then twice but he didn't say what happened as it would be Brodies choice to share his story with Lena if he wanted. As such I look forward to learning what happened to put him off relationships and see how he gets past it!

***Edit***
I've now listened to the audio book, narrated by Holly Jackson & Trevor Croft! I loved it! I thought they both narrated their characters chapters perfectly! The inclinations, inflections and intonations on the words were perfect! A very enjoyable listening experience!

This is my 5 snowflake review for The Fawn by Susan Griscom for Eskimo Princess Book Blog.

Lena Harington is a scared young woman on the run. When her husband, Troy, attacked her for the thousandth time one night, she fought back. She had decided to never allow him to kill her like her stepdad had killed her mother. So, when he attacked, she stabbed him in the stomach with a steak knife. Now she is armed with nothing but a trench coat, with nothing underneath, a little money she had saved up, and a fake ID. She knows that if Troy isn’t dead she is running for her life. Will she ever run far enough? What will she do when she has no choice but to stop somewhere to find a way to make money for her to keep running?

Jackson Beaumont is a 22 year old bar owner with the natural instincts to take in the wounded. He is young, strong, handsome, and has to be the sweetest hero that I have ever read. I don’t think he says one hurtful or mean thing in the whole book. (Well he may have a not so nice thought or two about Troy but that is all.) He is very smart, he leaves the man whoring up to his brother Brodie, and he has a soft spot of anything or anyone that needs help. What lengths will he go to for Lena? Will he be able to save her from her abusive past and give her a beautiful future?

“Would I ever be able to break down the walls of the prison he’d trapped her in? I’d gotten too close. I knew it when I whispered in her ear, but I wanted to be close. I wanted her to be comfortable with me. To realize she could feel safe with me.” – Jackson

This was a really cute, yet serious, romance novel. The Hero and Heroine worked really well together. There weren’t really too many side characters but the ones that were there were good ones. The main focus was on Jackson and Lena so you got a really good inside view into Lena’s struggle and Jackson’s thoughts. So glad Troy ended up getting what he deserved. The plot flowed well and the time lapse was on point.

If you are looking for a quick sweet romance then this would be a great option. I look forward to reading Brodie’s story.
I received The Fawn as an ARC in exchange for my honest review.

Nope

SPOILERS.

The story started out with a potentially good plot, but quickly went south. The MC is 20 and she is apparently married to an extremely abusive man who bears and rapes her often, pretty quickly after they elope. Her mother was killed by her abusive stepfather when she was a kid, and she witnessed it. During a drunken rage, her husband beats her so bad she knows he will kill her so she defends herself (kind of) and runs away. The entire series of events following her “escape” is unbelievable, just as her supposed relationship with the hero is. I mean, the guy is 22 and owns a bar. 22... Nope. I would have been willing to go with it if he were closer to 30. That’s really where the author lost me. Then all the loose legal liberties and the creepy way the 22 year old is with this young, CLEARLY domestic violence victim shows that young age. But still. Most decent guys, as the author is attempting to portray him as, wouldn’t come onto a woman who clearly, CLEARLY looks and acts like a DV victim. And with all that she’s been through, it would take SIGNIFICANTLY longer for her to recover enough to trust a man, no matter how attractive or kind he was. Especially since her abuser was also attractive and kind...at first. Then, THEN she is completely ok with going into a back room in a bar with two strange men with “kind” eyes (WTF) freshly after running for her life FROM a man. AND she lets one of them examine her...while she’s naked. After her husband raped her. Nope. Don’t buy it. She then goes HOME with one of them because, why not? Why not?! Sounds like a good idea. Seriously. Sleep in your effing car! That’s what. Nope. Nope. Nope. I don’t know how this book got the ratings it did. I was barely able to finish it.

Man. I’m so annoyed with this book. It could have been a great book.

I received this book in exchange for an honest review from the author.

I was contacted by another blogger "Enticing Journey" to help on reading and reviewing. I had never heard of this author or any of her books so I was definitely excited and willing to check out this series. This book is Lena and Jackson Beaumont's story and is written in both of their POV.

The story starts out getting to know Lena, how she met her husband Troy while she was in a band playing at a bar. They get married within a month and the first few weeks go really great until Lena is caught hugging one of her best friends Weezer which causes another side of Troy, rage.

Lena then realizes that Troy is not all what she thought he was and more like her own father, a father who abused on her mother for years. Within several months, she saves money over time to plan her escape. Little does she know that the time was coming sooner than she thought.

Lena escapes thinking that she killed her husband and finds a town outside of Oregon and finds a bar who is owned by the Beaumont brothers, Jackson and Brodie. Jackson knows that something is up with her but he has such a caring heart and takes her in like the fawn he nursed back to health when he was a little kid and hoping to use this situation to help heal Lena's broken spirit.

Lena and Jackson get to know each other but will they be able to trust one another and be able to tell each other the truth? If Troy is still alive, will he come after her with revenge or will she go to jail for killing a man in self defense?

I really enjoyed this suspenseful romance and cannot wait for Brodie's story in "The Rejected". Hope you enjoy the excerpt at the end of this book as well as I did.

Lena Benton has had enough! She has been abused by her husband Troy who she has been married to for only a year. Lena has to get away from Troy and as far far away as she can go...

After the final straw of being abused Lena escapes with nothing but the jacket on her back and the shoes in her car. Luckily she was able to put some money aside because she knew that she was going to leave just not under the circumstances of what had happened to her.

Enter Jackson Beaumont, Jackson is the angel of all angels. After Lena walks into Jackson bar to get something drink Jackson immediately see's that something has happened to here and with his compassionate sould jumps to her rescue. Jackson had been know to help out animals that have been hurt in the past nee the title "The Fawn".

With Jackson's help Lena grows stronger both physically and mentally. I have to say that I just fell in love with Jackson's gentle and considerate ways that he had for Lena. As time goes on Jackson knows that he is in love with Lena but the question is does Lena feel the same way about Jackson after having had to deal with the abuse from her husband. It is Jackson's patience and understanding that will make Lena decide if she must run or stay and start a new life.

And of course there is Jackson's brother Brodie who I is worried that his big brother could be getting involved in more than he can handle. Brodie is the opposite of Jackson although as time goes on he does come to accept Lena. The good news is that Brodie will be having his say next and I cannot wait for his story.

Enjoyable book not alot of in depth sex scenes I must warn you but it wasn't needed in the storyline which I really liked. This is a very heart warming, good story.

I don't mean to be a big ol' b-word with this review but this book was shockingly bad. I enjoy a gooey, cheesy romance every now and again, but more often than not I find these "romance" novels to be so extremely far from reality that it ends up being hard to read because my eyes are rolling so much. Usually I would just move on without a big break down of why I thought the cheesy "romance" novel was bad, but there were a few things that gave me a weird feeling from this book, starting with the title. Considering this woman has been raped, beaten and emotionally abused, not to mention is dealing with massive childhood trauma, I find the title to be ... a bit off. Beautifully wounded? It just doesn't sit well. Second, is this supposedly amazing man Jackson. If I had a guy (who I'd just met, as well) constantly tell me that I can trust him, I should trust him, he would never hurt me etc etc etc, over and over again... that would be a massive red flag, especially coming from an abusive relationship where Troy ended up not being who he was when they first met. It's a big face-palm situation. Plus, I found his whole "wanting to help the wounded/damaged" kind of creepy instead of endearing. Also, the dialogue between characters, ALL characters, was so contrived. I felt like I was reading an awful soap opera written by someone who had never seen people interact in real life. Brodie and Jackson ... brothers don't speak like that to each other--it's written like how a mom thinks that their kids speak to each other. Not to mention that the characters are supposed to be young, like 23-ish, and yet they spoke like they were 40. I get not wanting to dumb it down to the fad-like vernacular of today's youth, but there's a happy medium that can be reached.

This book is about a subject that is not talked about enough let alone wrote about. Spousal abuse. Susan Griscom has taken a subject that is hard to deal with and wrote from each one of the main characters perspective. This book is one that made me cry, get mad, and laugh all through the book.

Lena realized that Troy, supposedly her prince, was not what he seemed to be. He beat her for little things, but the one night he was beating her, she knew if she didn't get away he would beat her to death!

Lena runs! She ends up walking right into Jackson's bar! Jackson was the boy who had to help every wounded animal he ever found. Lena walks in, she's wounded and Jackson HAS to help her! Lena sure doesn't trust anyone especially a man! But Jackson has a way about him that you can't help but love him and get mad at him also! Along the way they both help each other. But things can't always be nice and easy!

Troy finds her and the way it is written, I was shaking and crying. Just couldn't put the book down without knowing the outcome.

This book kept my total interest from chapter 1 and just got better. Life is full of challenges and finding the strength to conquer those challenges is what should happen. Finding someone to conquer those challenges with is even better.

Read this book! You will not be disappointed! I can't wait till book 2!

This was my first Susan Griscom book but if def won't be my last!!

Lena Harington has had enough!! She knows if she stays with her abusive husband Troy any longer he will kill her just like her stepfather killed her mother. When Troy comes home one night and starts abusing her yet again the only way to get away is to stab him in the stomach with a knife. Not knowing if she killed him or not she knows she has to run and leave it all behind.

Jackson Beaumont has the need to protect the injured whether it is human or animal. When Lena stumbles in his bar there is just something about her he knows he can't resist. He knows it could bring danger to his door but he doesn't care, he will do everything to help his fawn.

Lena knows she needs to go before Troy finds her but there is something about Jackson. The longer they are together, the more she opens up to him and soon finds herself in a comfortable and happy place in her life but what will happen when an old friend of hers shows up at the bar to warn her about Troy? Will she be able to get away before it is to late? I loved Jackson!! He was so sweet, patient and understanding with Lena.

I can't forget to mention Jackson's brother Brodie. He is such a man whore!! When Lena's friend comes to visit, will she be able to change his ways? I can't wait for his book to come out and I hope we get more on Lena and Jackson in it!!

I honestly didn’t know what to expect of this book; I did know it would be different than Susan’s other novels, more specifically her steamy paranormal Whisper Cape romance series. I also knew that The Fawn dealt with some form of domestic violence, which at first put me on edge: would it be graphically disturbing, and would I be put off by the violence brought upon an innocent young woman? The answers were yes, and no. While any form of violence against women is disturbing, I was not put off.

The Fawn is not a blockbuster, high-concept book; what it is is a novel that accomplishes exactly what it sets out to do, which is tell a story of good overcoming evil; the redeeming, healing qualities of love and redemption. Griscom allows the story to unfold naturally, not rushing the relationships or the revelation. The book has a “real” feel to the telling of Lena Benton’s tragic journey, and the emotions run high throughout.

I was thrilled to discover that The Fawn is only the first in a new series by Griscom, “The Beaumont Brothers.” For now, I understand only a second book is planned, but you can bet Susan’s fans will be begging for a third (including me!)

I received this book free from the author in exchange for an honest review.
This is the second book by the amazing Susan Griscom that I have had the privilege of reading. And again she surpassed my expectations and blew this out of the park. Despite this book having darker subject matter, it was also lighthearted and a romantic read. While reading this novel I had a roller coaster of emotions. I even teared up a bit. And I liked how it showed the difference between a good relationship and a bad one.
Lena was such a damaged character that i couldn't help but to love her. I wanted her to escape and become independent. I'm glad everything worked out for her. Jackson is a great guy. I'm so glad he helped Lena with her more than one aspect in her life. Rufus was my favourite character because much like Jackson he is a protector. I'm really curious to learn more about Brodie, I can't wait until book two.
This was very well written book that keeps the readers heart pounding. I would recommend it to New Adult lovers.

The Fawn by Susan Griscom is a contemporary NA romance. It follows Lena as she escapes a bad relationship and finds love and friendship.
The story begins with an intense scene between Lena and her abusive a-hole of a husband Troy. This scene allows the reader to understand Lena's motivation for running and her fear.
When Lena finds her way to a little town in another state she meets Jackson and learns to trust again. Jackson is an amazing guy...and definite book boyfriend material.
My only complaint with the story was that I felt the pace was a little unrealistic. Lena was running from an abusive husband but she trusted Jackson almost immediately. I think that a woman in her situation would be a little more leery at first.
I enjoyed this book and definitely recommend it to fans of contemporary romance.
