Dating the son of a drug lord was bound to be complicated. Besides the obvious, Zara’s boyfriend, Jett, is also an alien, and she’s a half-breed still coming to terms with what that actually means. Thrown into a life where the human rules don’t apply, she meets surprise around every corner. The world that humans live in is not what it seems.
As if that weren’t bad enough, Jett also has alien enemies—one’s that are hell bent on making him pay for what he’s done on his father’s order. But these enemies aren’t after him. They’ll take their revenge on the ones he loves.
Caught up in a battle between the rival families, Zara will finally get to see what makes Jett a Royal and why she’s acquired a Royal entourage.
To start off, there were some parts of this book that I didn't like - for instance, there were unexplained incidences where characters would just appear without any mention of how they got there and in one particular scene, Zara was escaping with a guy that was only introduced to us as "the guy" then suddenly Zara was calling him by his name. Like wtf?! That was freaken confusing!
I also had a problem with the amount of romance. At first, I loved it, but then it started to get a bit tiresome over the course of the book because the romance just seemed to be the same. For example, Jett would always pull Zara onto his lap or they would aways kiss and be all over each other IN EVERY SINGLE CHAPTER!! And they seemed to behave more like rabbits than people. But, maybe they are supposed to be this way considering Jett is an Alien and Zara is a half-breed. There was not a lot of separation for the characters or moments where they could just be without their hormones driving them. And, it seemed as though their relationship was built on lust rather than love.
I also felt a slight annoyance when Jett's Mum said to Zara "Oh I can teach you how to cook for your man". Like why can't Jett learn to cook...but this annoyance is mostly derived from my own personal pet peeve surrounding sexism.
Other than these things the story was great! It was fast-paced, full of action and I have already bought the 3rd book. I just hope that the amount of romance in the next book is toned down slightly so when there is romance, it will be exciting. For example, it would be great if Jett and Zara could just be - and by that I mean just talk to each other, enjoy each other's company etc, without reverting to hormones and overzealous sexual behaviour. After all, as Agatha Christie once said: " the thrill is in the chase, never in the capture".
Loved re-reading this series. Love Zara and Jett. Zane cracks me up. She has such a rough life but she keeps on going. Jett makes her world so much better.
From the beginning of the story to the end, we're never too far from the lovey-dovey couple. With this book being shorter than the previous one, I feel like romance taking up the whole story. I loved to read more on scenes involving actions such as Zara discovering her talent, practising and fighting off the bad guys.
Another thing is that I find it hard to accept the way Zara treating her friends. She was so excited about her cousin and friends coming to visit her for schoolies in book one, but she didn't spend much time with them once they arrived.
The last revelation is kind of cool. Now that I know what they need to deal with in the next book, I can't wait to jump into the fantastic world and see how the story pans out. Hopefully, I'll get to read Zara contributing to the team with her incredible half-breed power.
I thought this entire series was really amazing. So much so that I could not stop long enough to write an individual review so I am going to have to sum it up here and post it for every book in the series. I love Carrero's spin on the YA/NA mob romance. Trust me, you will be like WHAT? Her writing is interesting and steamy in many ways. Her descriptions of bonding really made feel what being one would really feel like. This is an intriguing idea and Carrero has such an interesting concept that I can't wait to read more of her books. New fan here! Now beware that this series gets seriously gory as it progresses so weak stomach beware. Also, Americans please make sure you are brushed up on your British slang or your gonna be a little confused.
I liked how Jet made Zara feel included in his world. He might not have shared every detail in the beginning but he really wanted her to know he loved her. He let her have access to his bar and told her about the family's business while protecting her and her friends from being drugged. I also liked how Zara didn't give up her morals and humanity just because she knew she was a half-breed. She wanted to help and defend the humans. I'm hoping for more action in the next book.
I am so hooked on this series. I shouldn't surprised since ive already read 2 of kellys other series' and enjoyed them as well. Getting ready to start book
This series just gets better and better. I am not usually one for sci-fi style books, but Kelly pulls this off with ease! To top it off, it's an Australian based tale and it just adds to the atmosphere of the book.
Addicted to these hot alien alpha males and the story they lead. As zara learns more about herself will she be strong enough to handle all this life is? Can't wait to see
