This was a fairly solid debut monster romance! The spice was really good and the MMC was very growly and swoony. Her calling him "alpha" was very HOT. I loved their dynamic and how well they played off each other in the bedroom. And of course an MMC who knows how to do proper aftercare always makes me happy! I would have liked to see more of the MCs being together and building up that tension. The moment they sort of lose control and pounce on each other didn't hit as much as I was hoping because we didn't get to see much of them actually interacting with each other on page.

Once they do make that first move the romance moves quickly but it's a short book so I didn't really mind. Sebastian was exactly the sort of "alpha" monster male I like to read about: protective, growly, grumpy, but not a jerk to her.

Humans and monsters are strongly divided in this world and both sides have strong feelings of dislike for the other. So much so that they don't know anything about each other and don't interact. There were some intense reactions from the humans towards the monsters and sometimes during the story I felt that hatred was taken a bit too far because by the end the conflict seemed to be resolved a bit too easily.

Overall this was a fun and spicy read and look forward to more from this series and seeing where the world building goes!

Flora lives in a world that's decided between humans and monsters. They don't cross paths often and the prejudices are ingrained in both species.

Flora's career as a singer is just getting started, when she's roped into a photoshoot with a monster. The handsome male is dismissive, but their combined record label "Fortune Records", which is one of the first monster/human companies, wants them to fake a relationship. Flora is determined to show others that human/monster relationships can actually work and so the fake dating starts....turns out, both male and woman have a lot in common and suddenly there's only one bed.....

This story has a new concept for me. I've read lots of books where monsters/humans mix naturally or monsters glamour themselves to stay hiddeny. But a city divided in two, trying to start making a connection is so cool!!

Flora's and Sebastian's connection is reluctant at first, but once they start to warm up to each other, things get 🔥 really fast. Their chemistry is so 🥵. I loved how open they are in their communication and how they support each other.

Now where to find my own 🔥 dragon shifter....👀

If you like monster romance, shifters, fated mates, size difference and a nonexistent door, put "Snapdragon" on your TBR!!

Why did I wait so long to read this?!

I LOVE SEBASTION AND FLORA. He's so grumpy, and she really is sunshine and so sweet. I immediately wanted to know more about the world and see how things progressed with the monsters and the humans mixing together. There is already a book 2 out, thank goodness, so I don't have to wait to go read more.

This was just so sweet, like seeing Seb and Flora dance around the chemistryyyy, and then when they finally give in, they are really together?! Explosions. Fireworks. Screaming. I love them together, him all dark and quiet and kinda grumpy seeming, but he's actually so sweet, and he cooks for her?! And Flora is just adorable; I love that she was just going with it. The romance was amazing, the world was interesting, the storyline was great and the spice was SO GOOD. 10/10 Loved this book.

Firstly, a big thank you to Sofia for sending me an ARC. I appreciate it so much.

As someone who has read quite a few monster romance book, I didn’t expect this one to be so different than the rest. The concept of a city, divided in two, one monster part and one human part is quite unique.

The connection between Flora and Sebastian is rocky at first. But as soon as they start to warm up to each other, things get hot and spicy. The chemistry between them is delicious. An absolute joy to witness.

As a debut novel, this is incredibly well done and I cannot wait to read future books by this author.

If you like monster romance, a dragon shifter, fated mates and hot and spicy scenes, this is the book to put on your TBR.

There are two things that will make me automatically add a book to my tbr. Any guesses what those are? Monsters and rockstars. I don’t need to know more than that, I’m interested! When I saw that Snapdragon was going to have both of these I immediately signed up for the arc. It felt like this book was written for me, it had everything I love, and I couldn’t put it down.

Snapdragon takes place in a city full of monsters and humans, but they don’t mix. There’s a monster side of town and a human side, what better to bring the two sides together than a little fake dating between two musicians? These two were so fun together! I loved seeing their relationship progress and seeing Sebastian, our sexy dragon shifter open up to Flora. I really enjoyed the city being split in two and the bridge between being a record label working with both humans and monsters, it was a unique setting and I’m looking forward to seeing it explored more in future books.

This was the book I didn’t know I needed, but absolutely did need. It was so cute from start to finish. I loved every second of it. I’m a sucker for the fake dating trope especially in a rom com so I loved it so much in a cozy monster romance. I also loved both Flora and Sebastian and how there relationship grew throughout the book. I just cannot get over how cute this book was. Also the spice was so good!

There were also some deep undertones in this book as well, it was not just a cutesy romance. This book talks about themes of segregation based on race and how hard it can be to try to bridge over segregation and create acceptance. This book also talks about the difficulties that can come about with dating outside one’s race when racism is so common in a society.

For such a short book, the author was able to do so much. I loved this book so much and definitely recommend 100% and now I cannot wait to dive into Aster, book 2 of this interconnected standalone series set in the same world.

⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 🌶🌶🌶/5

TW - segregation (between humans and monsters, plot point incl prejudice and bigotry), manipulation (workplace), alcohol consumption, FMC likens going out the morning after a night out to self harm (mentioned), sexual harassment (groping, scs towards the FMC)

CW - light somnophilia, CNC, light chasing, choking, breath play, D/s, spanking, public play

Tropes - one bed, paranormal, fake dating, fated mates, novella, MCs are singer / songwriters, they bathe together, he washes her hair

Representation - plus size FMC

Humans and Monsters are divided but our MCs Flora (FMC) and Sebastian (MMC) find themselves part of a ploy to present a united front with their labels organising events for them to appear together hence the fake dating. Flora, at some points, felt very ignorant to this segregation

To anyone that has read monster / paranormal romance, like all of them, it is very obvious from the first meeting that the MCs are mates but we get to see them work towards the big reveal especially when one MC is not accustomed to what is happening.

This book is tagged as omegaverse - it's not. I feel like this contributed to why I felt somewhat disappointed by this book as I was expecting omegaverse and instead we get a shifter dragon that wants to be called Alpha and has a knot. For me, omegaverse isn't all about the anatomy and more about the societal structure of a/b/o amongst other things. Given Sebastian is the only dragon we actually meet in this book, it was missing that for me and I'd personally not tag this as omegaverse.

This was a nice short read but I was wishing that the MCs had some more chemistry and I didn't really get the plot point of fake dating given their occupations. For me, it would have made much more sense if the ploy their labels wanted them to participate in was making music together or Sebastian going on tour and Flora having to go to be the opening act i.e., forced proximity. The situation in this book just didn't feel that natural

Random points:
the FMC likens a dance class the morning after going out drinking to self harm in such a nonchalant way - I thought this was very weird

I'm a fan of short chapters but sometimes, the end of one chapter into the next felt very abrupt; here I think longer chapters and/or chapter breaks would have worked well

Scale:
⭐️ - would've DNF'ed / continued out of spite
⭐️⭐️ - shit, but whatever
⭐️⭐️⭐️ - meh, could've been better
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ - lit 👅
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ - loved it, inject this shit into my veins 🤪

🫑 - no smut
🌶 - no point
🌶🌶 - mediocre at best
🌶🌶🌶 - standard smut, hot
🌶🌶🌶🌶 - 🥵 okay, some CW
🌶🌶🌶🌶🌶 - fuck me 🥵🥵 CWs / filthy with a side of filth - see Poison / Room Twenty-Two: Hide and Seek/ The Naughty List

Firstly I'd like to thank Sofia for sending me an arc that was so nice of you and I really appreciate it!🥹

I'd like to begin with saying that I really enjoyed this! I absolutely loved the concept and the idea!  A Monster and Human romance + Music industry so incredibly original and fun!

As someone who reads a lot of monster romance I didn't expect there to be a divide between humans and monsters!
I absolutely loved the story and the message it is so lovely and I am so excited to see what the next book brings!

Flora is our fmc and she's a singer and she's told she's going to do a photo shoot with a monster and despite her having doubts she does it!  She meets Sebastian and well their meeting doesn't go well... But they're pushed by their agencies to date as a PR stunt...

You can only imagine how fun this is going to be!
I loved the dynamic between her and Sebastian, and I loved how despite them being different and growing up to hate each other they work!

I would have loved more Sebastian in the first half of the book but what he doesn't say in words he makes up in actions!

I would say this is a great book for beginners in the monster ganre since it's pretty low-key and everything is explained and it's not overwhelming, might spark some love for the ganre!

Also the spice.... Its hot af!

The only thing I didn't really like was how the things were resolved, Karl didn't deserve such a treatment yeah what he did wasn't nice but I felt there were better ways to deal with it! I do not really like when someone doesn't have free will evil or not. It felt not fair if I'm being honest, and I think it makes Flora and Sebastian look bad.

But that's just personal thing, you might not be bothered, there was a warning at the beginning so I can't say I'm upset, and it didn't take away from my enjoyment!

I am so excited to see more from this world and meet other monsters, I think there's 5 more books in this world?

Sweet story

I enjoyed this story. It was a different take on monster romance where monsters aren't welcomed in human society. Flora was sweet & once Sebastian lightened uo, he was quite sexy.

I gave it three stars because it needs a lot of edits and proofing and there was no distinction in the chapters of when the times changed. It was a bit confusing. Also, I wasn't sold on Sebastian's excuse of why he was mean to Flora at first. It didn't feel like it fit but then I think he changed it...again confusion.

This was a sweet story for a debut novel and I definitely see promise of a future.

Found this book because I follow Sofia on instagram and was really curious about it! Can definitely say I’m a big fan!!

At first, it’s always known that humans and monsters don’t get along. Until Flora has to do a photoshoot with Sebastian. She’s instantly attracted but he’s cold toward her. Their label thought they had great chemistry so they start fake dating for PR, falling in love along the way 🐉💚 I loved it.

“Are you going to be a good girl for your Alpha and take my knot again?”

This was a super fun, very kinky monster romance! Flora’s energy is very ‘I’m just a girl’ while our MMC Sebastian is serving up that ‘alpha dragon with a huge 🍆’ energy and together they are such a delight!!!!

Love!!

Okay, I wasn't prepared for how much I loved this!! With how short the book is, Sofia Rose really knows how to pack the details without making it seem like too much. The pacing of their relationship felt good, their communication was great and it was a fantastic representation of what a healthy BDSM (lite) relationship should look like.

Sooooo… I know these can technically be read as standalones, but I’m just not built that way. I ended up here because a review of book three caught my eye, and curiosity (and mild FOMO) pushed me to start from the beginning. Honestly? I’m glad I did.

Snapdragon has a really fun premise: humans and monsters trying to live side-by-side, mostly failing, and then getting shoved together through a PR stunt that absolutely should’ve crashed and burned. The tension between Flora and Sebastian is legit the engine of this book—she’s soft and determined, he’s a grumpy dragon shifter with a chip on his shoulder the size of a tour bus. Their chemistry? Solid. Definitely the highlight.

This one leans character-driven, but there’s enough worldbuilding sprinkled in that I never felt lost. The monster-vs-human divide is interesting, and the celebrity drama/fake-dating angle actually works better than I expected. I was fully rooting for them as they tried to untangle Sebastian’s nightmare of a contract from his manager—low-key the most stressful part of the book.

It wasn’t groundbreaking or life-changing for me, but it was fun, spicy, and easy to binge. A solid 3/5—not because I didn’t enjoy it (I did), but because it didn’t quite cross into “I’m feral and obsessed” territory. Still, it absolutely set the stage for me to keep going with the series.

I really liked the pacing of this book up until halfway through- the lore of the actual world really pulled me in but something was off putting about the dialogue once the spicy parts came through. a nice little fun read overall though!

This was a low Angst modern monster romance. It has a plus size FMC, an alpha Dragon Shifter MMC and channels grumpy x sunshine vibes.

It is a slow burn and doesn't even begin to get spicy until over half way. That said it picks up and stays nicely spicy until the end. Flora is generally loveable and I really like how it wasn't a pregnancy happy ending... but instead they did create something together and I thought that was really lovely.

The world Sofia Rose has started to build is nicely developed, the character were refreshingly interesting and unique. I am looking forward to reading about future characters, and learning more about different monsters. A slow ending to segregation is an interesting backdrop to pick to a monster romance series and I was surprised by it. Usually monster romance set in a modern setting its already * mostly * accepted there are many races intermingled.

For a debut novel it was really well written. No silly mistakes, it all read clearly and was nicely paced - this is something quite important for me personally as i will struggle to focus if there is too many issues.

Overall I really recommend for a nice easy read with nothing too heavy - which is exactly what i needed.

Review of Snapdragon by Sofia Rose💘🐉🎤🎶🎸✨😍📚

If you’re looking for a romance that’s fresh, fiery, and full of heart, this book is it. Imagine a world where humans and monsters live separately, wary of each other, until a rising pop star and a grumpy, brooding monster are forced into a fake relationship for the cameras. Sounds good, right? Now add insane chemistry, deep emotional connection, and a slow-burn romance that bursts into flames—yeah, it’s that good.

Flora is pure sunshine—sweet, determined, and ready to prove that humans and monsters can mix. Sebastian? Total grump. Mysterious, quiet, and absolutely not interested in playing pretend… until suddenly, it doesn’t feel so fake anymore. And when there’s only one bed? Let’s just say, sparks fly.

Their relationship unfolds so naturally—playful, tender, and hot. But what I loved most? They actually talk to each other. No miscommunication drama, just two people (one human, one monster) figuring out their feelings and supporting each other along the way.

And the world-building? So cool. A city on the edge of change, humans and monsters slowly coming together, and these two right in the middle of it all. It makes the romance feel even bigger—like they’re part of something greater.

By the time they finally give in, I was SCREAMING. The tension, the build-up, the payoff—perfection. And Sebastian cooks for her? Please. I’m in love.

This book is pure magic. The romance? 10/10. The world? Fascinating. The spice? Incredible. And the best part? Book two is already out, so you don’t have to wait to dive back in. Just trust me—read this ASAP.🤩

🩵My Favorite Quotes🩵

Sebastian looks like he wants to eat me, and I’m not so sure I would try to stop him.

“Are you going to be a good girl for your Alpha and take my knot again?”

I kiss my mate in front of his coworkers, earning a few hoots and hollers. But I couldn’t care less, I had my happy ending.💘

Snapdragon by Sofia Rose
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Genre: Contemporary Monster/Shifter Romance
Spice: 🌶️🌶️🌶️

Snapdragon by Sofia Rose is a cute contemporary dragon-shifter romance centered around two musicians, Flora and Sebastian. In an attempt to bridge the wide spread animosity between humans and monsters, their mutual record company, Fortune Records, has the two MCs fake-date each other.
Snapdragon was a delightful read, especially the first half of the book. Rose does well to establish the conflict of the story, as well as the tension and chemistry between Flora and Sebastian. She writes enjoyable, likeable characters, some of who I would have liked to see more of throughout the story.
My main issue with Snapdragon is its second half. The conflict of the MCs dating, fake or not, in a world so divided simply falls away in favour of a new conflict with another character. Which is unfortunate because these two conflicts would have worked well together. Instead, the new conflict and its resolution make the end of Snapdragon feel too tidy and a bit rushed.
This said, Snapdragon has more strengths than weaknesses, and its spice is a strength. Having read my fair share of omegaverse, romance and smut in general, I would say that Snapdragon is a more gentle introduction to some of the spicy tropes it portrays. Its a book for anyone wanting to get a look into omegaverse without being completely throttled by the genre. And this goes for some of the more kinky stuff that Sebastian and Flora are into. They establish their boundaries and communicate with each other, which results in a healthy sexual relationship that I love to see written about.
I really liked Snapdragon and I think a lot of the fans of the genre will enjoy Rose’s debut novel. She has beautiful writing and a masterful way of shaping the world around her characters. Sofia Rose’s work is only going to get better from here on out, and she is most certainly an author worth following.

A warm thank you to @sofiarose_author for allowing me to be an ARC reader for her. Be sure to check out Snapdragon which comes out on May 31st.

This was a quick read (probably about 6 hours) and for what I was expecting, I wasn't really disappointed.

Snapdragon takes place in a universe where monsters (minotaur, dragons, shifters, etc) live near humans. They share the same city but not the same spaces. It gave me the ick when I initially read it, but the hatred wasn't exclusive. Both sides really hated each other. I'm not sure if this makes it any better, but I'm adding it in.

Our main characters, Flora and Sebastian, are paired together by their records company to do some PR dating. Flora describes her label as taking a liberal approach, hence why this situation arose. The grumpy-sunshine troupe takes over. Sebasatian is an absolute ass to Flora. Flora tries her best to be nice. Complications arise but are quickly overcome. The manufacturedd tipping point of the relationship ensues between bouts of monster-human fetish relations.

The writing can feel a bit juvenile and I think the plot would've been better off without the manufactured miscommunication troupe, but that's just my take on it. I think for a lot of people, the plot takes a backseat in these types of books.

Does it read like a wattpad book? Yes. Does that make it a bad read? This depends on who you ask. I think a solid 3 stars is fair. I liked it better than A Soul to Keep from the Dustwalker Brides series. I'd be open to reading another book from this author.

This is a debut rockstar monster romance story between a growly alpha dragon mmc and a human fmc. fun grumpy sunshine vibes and great spice with verbal communication about kinks, consent, and safe words.

its set in a pretty divided world between humans and monsters and I really loved that part of the plot had both of the main characters recognizing their own prejudices against each other's species and coming together to help bridge the gap between both their worlds. I loved how protective Sebastian was when it came to Flora and don't even get me started on the adorable song writing scenes.

I will say that at times I felt like the chapters ended and started abruptly making me feel like the story jumped around or think I missed something so there were times I back tracked to make sure I didn't miss part of the story.

I also didn't Love how Flora immediately thought the worst of Sebastion and that he betrayed her but that fit with her character so I can appreciate it for what it was. what I didn't understand was how justice was obtained at the end, it felt so out of left field because it didn't seem like a thing Flora would do at all based on her personality throughout the rest of the book.

overall, I really enjoyed this debut book and think it is the start of an amazing series.

“In a world where Humans and Monsters are segregated, Flora has to decide what side of history she wants to be on...”
---
This debut novel is a cute monster romance that introduces us to the world of Fortune Records. Flora, a human singer/songwriter meets Sebastian, a dragon shifter musician, and enters into a PR romance by the recording label to help facilitate integration.

The story was cute, but it felt too short. The will they/won’t they actually fall in love felt like it went on a bit too long, and once they got together, it was just lots of quick spicy scenes. The book could have been at least 50-100 pages longer as the spicy scenes were very well-written (minus saying boob which pulled me out of the scenes) but were over too quickly.

I did like that the third act breakup didn’t go on forever. Flora looked at it logically at first, but doubts eventually crept in as they would in anyone in the same situation. But their eventual confrontation with felt rushed and out of place with the rest of the story. Again, maybe another 50-100 pages would have helped round everything out.

Sebastian is an amazing MMC. He is attentive to Flora’s needs, communicates his own needs with her, and he’s just *chef’s kiss*.

Overall a good read. I’m looking forward to more books by this author.

Pushing boundaries is very rawr!

Flora is a human, up-and-coming pop star reaching the end of her development contract with her label. She needs to do SOMETHING to make sure she stays relevant - enter a PR stunt vis-à-vis fashion photo shoot with Sebastian, an established dragon shifter musician. Despite her reservations, she does the shoot and discovers that a) Sebastian is HOTTTT hot, b) he’s very growly, and c) he apparently harbors a strong dislike for humans.

In a world where monsters are real but also kept very separate from humans, it’s logical that Sebastian wouldn’t like to associate with a human. It’s just not done. Yet the photo shoot is a hit and it’s decided that Flora and Sebastian should fake date. She’s open-minded and Sebastian isn’t all that bad once he learns to loosen up and set aside his prejudices… but what happens when the pair catches real feelings?

I loved this book. LOVED IT. It’s my first by this author and I am very much looking forward to the next books in the series. I love the LGBTQ+ representation, I love that fantasy and monster races are used to address historically relevant issues like enforced segregation, and I appreciated that Sebastian and Flora truly grow as characters. Plus, the couple is combustibly hot together.

how is this a debut??

Flora and Sebastian meet doing a photo shoot. The first between humans and monsters. There’s i no interaction between the two because of their differences. After the shoot the two labels decide it would be smart for them to start a fake relationship.

Y’all! Fake dating, a dragon shifter, knots and music. This was perfection! They had amazing chemistry and I loved their characters individually. Flora is sweet and funny, so passionate about her craft and just friendly. Sebastian starts off very standoffish but that’s because he hates how attracted he is to her.

As the story progresses and we get more of the two of them together I fell in love with their relationship. I love the pivotal moment of a fake relationship turning real and theirs was so super cute!

And the spice!!!! I’ll never get enough of knots, but the themes of D/s and the little bit of chasing and sleep play was so good. Definitely a refined menu of fun time play.

I can’t wait to read the next one! Matter of fact I’m gonna start it as soon as I’m done typing.

This is Sofia's debut novel, and she's done a fantastic job! It's a slow burn, low angst, cozy Monster Romance with a dash of kinky spice that will warm your heart.

The book is set in a city where humans and monsters coexist but live on separate sides.
Our MCs, Sebastian and Flora, are brought together by their record label and fake date for publicity. However, sparks fly, and they inevitably pioneer the way for human/monster relations.
I personally enjoyed the species conflict side of the story, I know a lot of people won't, but for me, it adds a layer of believability and tension to the story/developing relationship.
Sebastian, while being an Alpha male, turns out to be a complete cinnamon roll that made me melt. And Flora is such a sweetheart that you want to give her a hug and be besties!
Overall, it's a really sweet, well written story, and I'm looking forward to the next instalments!

I absolutely loved this world! The half monster and half human city was super cool to explore and I could imagine all the places within the story so clearly. I loved Flora as a character, unafraid to be herself and her over the top pop persona was adorable. Broody Sebastian was super hot and mysterious but when he warmed up to her, he turned into a dotting, goofy, sexy and fun partner. I loved that he was protective of her but not in a toxic way which is my favorite!

The music producing, the events they went to and all the other monster/human interactions made the story fun and fast paced. Their relationship was super steamy but I felt they kinda rushed into things a bit. I wanted him to woo her more and start courting her, really lean into the dragon side of things with shiny stuff and treasure. I can excuse it thought because mate bonds tend to make things move very fast! I had a great time with this read and def recommend it!

It started out fun and it is fun! There were just some issues with pacing and writing in some areas. The first 3/4 of the book is fine but then it started to feel rushed and the writing became stilted. Because of the length of the book, some plot points felt unresolved or they magically were resolved, namely the human-monster prejudices. The reactions were pretty dramatic so for that tension to easily resolve itself felt eh. Sebastian having a knot and only a knot (with some scales) also felt a little anticlimactic. I was expecting something a bit more substantial - like 2 peens or some ribbing, something to make his body stand out a bit more. He's not a were, it should be knot and something else. Flora also seems to cry a lot. That may be more personal preference but she would cry at seemingly everything, which was annoying.

When I first heard about this book, I didn’t know much about it. The author, Sofia Rose, started following me on Instagram, and I followed back because I saw that she was coming out with a new book soon. So, I scrolled through her account and got increasingly excited to read her book, especially because it is a monster romance!

I didn’t really know what I was getting into when I picked it up, but I really loved this book. The plot differed from any other Human x Monster romance I have read.

I loved Flora and Sebastian’s relationship. I loved how they both cared for each other and how they were both reluctant to care for and later love each other. Also, the songwriting scenes were so cute.

Can’t wait for book 2!!!

I liked the start of SNAPDRAGON and the writing was good but it was boring and there wasn't any chemistry between Sebastian and Flora. I think not having Sebastian's POV really hurt the story here because he's so stand-offish and just doesn't talk to Flora at all for almost the first 30% of the book. This means the reader has no idea what's going on with him and the lack of interaction between the MCs made it hard for me to believe they could work as a couple. And then when they do start talking and getting to know each other it's through an off hand few sentences letting us know they talked so I still felt disconnected from them as a couple.
