Our new baby by Heather Maisner is about a family of four who is preparing to welcome a new baby into their family. During their mothers pregnancy young Ben starts to feel left out from his family. From his perspective, as time gets closer to the baby's delivery everything he loves and wants starts are gone. In the end, his parents and family make him feel loved by allowing him to take part in naming the new baby. Ben is also surprised to receive a special gift from an unexpected person in the end. This book relates to the cultural topic: family, and shows that sometimes in a family, certain family members can feel left out, and that we always want to find a way to make them feel welcomed and apart of the family. This book is realistic fiction, and includes a very interesting plot that allows room for questions and comments. The pictures flow perfectly with the story, providing a great visual. In this story the characters use language that matches their culture. Unfortunately, this book does not exhibit a wide range of cultural groups.
