Ebenezer “Eb” Jones is in the mood for deadly payback. He knows that Naomi Romano killed his friend and former CIA partner. The cops suspected her, the DA wanted to charge her, but the woman was far too smart for them. She slipped away from justice. Or so she thinks. He’s about to make certain that she pays for her crimes. A life for a life. He will absolutely wreck her life. Promise made.
He’s dangerous, conniving, and cold-blooded to the core.
Lying is second nature to Eb. Pretending to be someone else is as easy as breathing. So he works to slip past Naomi’s guard. To learn her secrets. And he will learn those secrets. Even if he has to seduce them all from her beautiful, lying lips. Does that make him cold-blooded? Guilty as charged. It’s a dirty job, but someone has to do it.
Another enemy is stalking his prey.
Eb isn’t the only predator who wants justice. Naomi is being hunted, and Eb has to step in and shield her from a series of deadly attacks. Everywhere she turns, Naomi faces danger. He pretends to be the good guy, the savior that she needs. She breaks before him, desperate for help, and Eb realizes the woman is either one very fine actress…or maybe she’s not the killer he thought.
Now she believes he is a hero and doesn’t know that he is someone she should fear.
Eb succeeded in his mission of getting close to Naomi. Except now, his careful control is unraveling. He begins to want her. To need her with a desire that is more savage and primitive than any he’s ever felt before. Two options—Naomi is the best liar he has ever met in his life…or Eb has made a fatal mistake. He’s betrayed a woman who might own his heart, and if he’s not careful, a jealous enemy closing in on them may rip her from his world.
She also might wind up hating him forever once she learns just how deeply his betrayal runs…
Passion can be lethal. And love? It will make heroes turn into monsters.
Author’s Time to solve another cold case with the Ice Breakers! Except…this case is far too personal for Ebenezer Jones. And when things get personal, rules will be broken. Control will be lost. And a man with an ice-cold heart man find himself lying—and falling for—a woman who is not meant to be his. A master of disguise, Eb can pretend to be anyone, anytime. Getting the truth from Naomi should be easy. Falling for her? That should not be part of the plan. Yeah…his plan is about to explode.

Twisted, tense and totally addictive, from the very beginning, this story had me hooked.
I adored Naomi as she was smart, capable, and refused to play the victim. I admired her strength and courage every step of the way. I especially loved that despite Eb being a man on a mission, focused, dangerous, and completely set on revenge, he couldn’t shake the impact she had had on him from the very beginning. He might have started with a clear goal, but watching him fall again, deeper and harder, is a reminder why I love everything this author writes. The deeper he got, the more tangled everything became, and I soon found that I couldn’t turn the pages fast enough.
While Eb and Naomi’s chemistry was immediate and electric, what really pulled me in was the way the emotional layers built beneath all the tension. There’s danger at every turn, and the suspense kept me guessing. I especially loved how fiercely protective Eb became, even when it went against everything he had set out to do. Naomi, on the other hand, is no damsel and refuses to back down no matter what or who’s coming for her.

As for Henry, I absolutely adored him. He’s such a grounding presence in the chaos and added so much heart to the story. Add in the twists, the secrets, the tension. I loved every bit of it. But the ending? The ending was pure perfection. It hit all the right emotional notes, delivered just the right amount of closure, and left me completely satisfied.
If you love romantic suspense with serious heat, complex characters, and a storyline that keeps you on edge the whole way through, this one absolutely delivers.
Ufff, it was a roller coaster ride with me being suspicious of every characters introduced and still not guessing the killer correct.
Eb fell hard for Naomi at first sight but unfortunately he couldn’t pursue her. And then she marries his partner and on their first night Hudson ( partner) is killed and Naomi becomes the suspect. I loved that Eb never got over Naomi, instead he became more obsessed with her. God, his possessiveness 🔥. He was such a protective hero. His mind was telling him one thing but his heart another. The ensuing drama and angst was so good.
Enjoyed the epilogue and can’t wait for Hunter to find his HEA asap. That man needs some drama in his life.
If you love fast paced romantic suspense with a dash of angst, a dangerous killer and a complex plot with twists and turns- this book is for you.
-He falls first and harder. -Fake relationship, forbidden romance. -Fast paced, twists and safe. -Recommended.
I received an advance review copy and I’m leaving this review voluntarily.
He saw her first but Ebenezer Jones didn’t get the girl. This spiraled so far out of control that it makes you dizzy.
Naomi and Eb have explosive chemistry but he thinks she killed his partner. He’s there to prove she did it but the more he’s around her the more he believes otherwise.
An Ice Breaker case that has you guessing to the end. The monsters are never who you think they are. He’s a master at deception. She’s just trying to survive. This is my favorite series by this author and every story just gets better than the last. Grab this one now!!
What an incredible edge-of-your-seat suspense book! Cynthia Eden is the queen of romantic suspense and I can’t get enough!
People said she’d tricked Hudson into falling for her, then killed him on their wedding day. Despite the DA dropping all charges against Naomi Romano, the town still believes she’s guilty and they want her to pay. And so does a particularly handsome ex CIA agent.
Master of disguise, ex-CIA agent Ebenezer Jones, is determined to get justice for his murdered partner Hudson Wyatt. Naomi Romano is at the top of his list and he will do anything to make her pay. Eb is the master of control and the feelings he has for Naomi will be ignored at all cost.
As Naomi and Eb become more acquainted it quickly becomes obvious someone wants Naomi silenced, and that has him wondering, who is behind it and is she really guilty?
I devoured this book just like Eb devoured Naomi. I should’ve been working, but what was I doing instead? Turning pages, squealing with joy one second blushing the next. Ice Cold Liar had me so invested, I’m already hungover.
This had one of my favorite tropes- Betrayal. Well, not my top favorite, but when I need that angst to stab me in the stomach, this one delivers. I loved that there was angst, but not overly done. It led to one of the best apologies ever🥵
I knew I’d love Naomi when she mentioned Supernatural, Dean Winchester and her love for Impalas. The ‘67 Impala will forever remain my favorite classic😩 Did I mention that Eb was crazy for his baby just like my Dean❤️🔥🤣
I loved the suspense, the romance, the plot. There wasn’t much sex, like maybe 3 scenes and they weren’t drawn out but boy were they hot. I actually like this balance because the other series from Cynthia were more smut heavy. But this one was her classic style where romance and suspense were perfectly balanced!
I guessed some twists but not all, because Cynthia Eden truly does RS well. I really wish Naomi had met Eb first🥺 Both could have been saved so much trouble. In this case, i wouldn’t hold Naomi at fault because she never met Eb before Hudson took her away, plus they were going to get married so it’s obvious they were intimate. However, there’s no background on what Eb did all that time (not specified how long Naomi and Hudson were together, but it’s been 6 months since his death when she and Eb actually meet), was he with someone or no? No idea. In some ways, I’m glad about that.
I loved how Eb started with not liking dogs (wth dude!!), how he was jealous of Henry the service dog, and how he eventually fell in love with him. I fucking loved that epilogue 🥹❤️🔥
Can’t wait for Hunter to get his book! He seems like a goof but I know he has some secrets too👀
Wow yet another emotional story that has as much suspense as it does romance. Eb saw Naomi first but never really got to talk to her so his partner Hudson ended up getting the girl instead ! Sounds like a punchline doesn't it but no because on their wedding night Hudson ended up dead and Naomi became the suspect . Now she's been released and in Eb's mind she's got away literally with murder and he is about to get close enough to spring a trap that sends her straight to jail ! It's just too bad that the woman seems to be running rings around him ! I particularly enjoyed that Naomi strode onto the pages and just behaved in such a bonkers way ! I hate to ruin things for others but this lady takes on g#n toting bikers and that was a huge shock. I don't think Eb ever knew what to expect from her but as the story unfolded so too did a twisted tale full of jealousy and obsession. There are certainly characters to confuse the reader and for me the final revelation was a huge surprise. Eb without a doubt fell fast and hard and I'm so pleased that Naomi finally got her Prince Charming. This voluntary take is of an advanced copy and my thoughts are honest and fair
I loved this book and was hooked from page one. Ebenezer (Eb) believes that Naomi murdered his partner. But they chemistry between them is off the charts. Can he get close to her and get a confession? Is she a cold hearted killer? Loved staying on edge and being surprised by the killer. Loved her service dog Henry and how the three of them stood against a killer. Glad they finally got their happy ever after. I voluntarily read an advanced readers copy and I highly recommend this book.
guys i’m not above emailing cynthia eden bc i need hunters book NOW. the last page was such a tease and all just to find out that the next book isn’t even about hunter 😑😑😑 anyways i loved this book
Oh my word! Once again Cynthia did it, she delivered yet again with a killer of a story.
Despite having been attracted to Naomi from the very first moment he saw her, Eb is sure she's guilty of killing his partner Hudson. So when she's cleared by the DA he decides to prove himself that she's the murderer by getting close to her and seducing her.
Being close to her however, getting to know her and witness several attacks on her first hand makes him see her in a different light and makes him think there might be more to the case than he first thought.
Ice Cold Liar keeps you on the edge of your seat, there's so many twists and turns that every time I thought I knew who was the culprit, something happened to make me change my mind. The attraction between Naomi and Eb is off the charts and when he gets all possessive and overprotecting.... Poohhh!!!
There was also some great hilarious moments thanks to Hunter who was there to help Eb. The banter between the both of them was great and I can't wait to see him get his own book.
It had been a while since I truly enjoyed a Cynthia Eden book. I was hesitant to pick this one up—the premise didn’t appeal to me—but I’m glad I gave it a chance. Ice Cold Liar, book 14 in the Ice Breaker Cold Case series, did not disappoint.
Ebenezer (Eb) Jones—brother to Jake and Marly from earlier installments—goes after Naomi Romano, convinced she murdered his partner and close friend, Hudson. His plan is simple: earn her trust and do whatever it takes to get a confession from her. But as he gets to know Naomi, his certainty begins to unravel, and he finds himself falling for her. Naomi insists from the start that she didn’t kill Hudson, and with the help of Eb’s friend Hunter, they set out to uncover the truth.
I really enjoyed this book; it struck a satisfying balance between romance and suspense. I loved Eb and his alpha energy, and Naomi was a refreshingly strong female lead. That said, a few things felt “off,” though thankfully it didn’t detract from the overall reading experience.
The cop in the story—Clark Anderson, I think?—read like a caricature. One moment he’s out for Naomi’s blood, and the next he’s suddenly backing off just because she says Eb “hates” her. Later, his attempt to lure Naomi to the police station was laughably transparent: he claims she needs to sign papers to “close the case,” even though all charges had already been dropped before the story began.
Another inconsistency: when Naomi is asked to list people who hate her, she includes Eb. Yet when the cop starts questioning him, she immediately jumps to his defense. That didn’t track. On their first night together, Naomi tells Eb—can’t recall the exact dialogue—that he should only follow her if he’s after sex. But the very next night, she insists he sleep on the couch while she takes the only bed. The shift felt contradictory.
Then there’s the scene where Eb is being questioned by Madelein. Naomi overhears him saying he’s manipulating her and would do whatever it takes to get a confession—even sleep with her. She’s understandably furious, especially since they’ve already slept together. But at the first sign of danger, she runs to him and kisses him. What happened to her anger? Where was the conversation to clear the air? A moment for Eb to explain that he said it to throw Madelein off track would’ve gone a long way. Also, there we some glaring discrepancies between pages 125/126 and the opening chapter: page 125 mentions Naomi lying on the bed whereas she was lying on the floor in the first chapter. Similarly, in the first chapter it was said that Hudson dropped the knife, but on page 126 Naomi reflects that she dropped the knife. In the first chapter, Naomi thinks "He (Hudson) enjoys my suffering as much as I enjoy his" but the what or how of his "suffering" was never explained—she appeared to have been the only one to suffer.
I liked Naomi overall, but she occasionally veered into stereotypical romance heroine territory, e.g., the FMC throwing herself at the MMC from start to finish. Thankfully, those moments were rare, and in some cases, justifiable. Did I mention I adored Eb’s character? I did. But I wasn’t thrilled with the ending. It felt rushed, and Eb’s decision to stay away to give Naomi “space” didn’t align with his obsessive devotion. His return to the agency also felt like a step backward—it doesn’t bode well for a happily-ever-after, given the secrets he’ll have to keep. But that’s just me.
Despite the inconsistencies, I thoroughly enjoyed the book. It kept me up late into the night—that’s how compelling it was. Eb’s alpha magnetism and Naomi’s strength made it a gripping read.
4.25stars- ICE COLD LIAR is the fourteenth instalment in Cynthia Eden’s contemporary, adult ICE BREAKER COLD CASE romantic suspense series focusing on a group of men and women who work for Ice Breakers, a former online team of crime solvers whose goal it is to solve cold cases. This is former CIA operative Ebenezer ‘Eb’ Jones, and Naomi Romano’s story line. ICE COLD LIAR can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story lines is revealed where necessary.
Told from dual omniscient third person perspectives (Eb and Naomi) ICE COLD LIAR follows in the wake of the murder of Eb’s former CIA partner Hudson Wyatt. Married only a few hours, Hudson Wyatt was found murdered , and his new wife was the prime suspect but there was not enough evidence, and the DA never pressed charges, therefore Ebenezer Jones was determined to get justice for his friend and partner Hudson Wyatt, targeting Naomi Romano himself. From the outset , Ebenezer struggled to trust or believe Naomi’s proclamation of innocence but when our heroine is targeted, Ebenezer become guardian and protector of the woman with whom he is falling in love.
The world building focuses on Naomi’s struggle to prove she is innocent, and Ebenezer’s need to seek justice for the friend whom he lost but all was not as it appeared to be-someone was taking aim at our story line heroine. With the help of Ice Breaker investigators Hunter McQueen and Memphis Camden, Eb is determined to uncover the truth but a deep dive asks more questions than answers, and our couple find themselves at the mercy of a potential killer.
The relationship between Eb and Naomi begins acrimoniously as Eb is single-minded in his need to take down our story line heroine but, once again, there is something about Naomi that calls to his heart, and his inability to trust, threatens the life of the woman with whom he is falling in love. The $ex scenes are passionate and seductive without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.
There is a large ensemble cast of energetic, dynamic and often questionable secondary and supporting characters from law enforcement, organized crime, and an embattled MC including Ice Breaker agents Memphis Camden, and former US Army Ranger Hunter McQueen; CIA Handler Madeline Desalt; and Detective Clark Anderson. The requisite evil has many faces.
ICE COLD LIAR is a story of secrets and lies, power and control, betrayal and vengeance, obsession and murder, acceptance and love. The character driven premise is dramatic and edgy but I suspected the who and why of the guilty party(s) early on; the romance is spirited; the characters are stubborn and determined.
📖Genre & Tropes📖 : romance suspense x murder plot x dark past x almost second chance x spy hero x touch her & die x spicy scenes
I'm a huge fan of this series and of course, after having Marley and Jacob books, I obviously needed the book about their brother : Eb !
And I LOVED IT !
The plot was full of tension and incredibly twisted (I had doubts about the culprit's identity, but I wasn't expecting all the twists and turns and revelations !), the romance was addictive (I loved how Eb tries to resist ... And all the angst when Naomie learns some of his secrets =D), the characters were great (I especially loved Naomie, who remained so strong despite everything she's been through !), and of course, a special mention for Henry <3
In short, a suspense romance that I devoured way too quickly ! For fans of suspense romances, I recommend this book and the entire series !
I've always been a huge fan of anything that Eden writes. I just always love her books. I find her characters flawed while still being strong and even at time sweet. They often make me laugh and sometimes tear up. They are never who you think they are and always protect those they love. You see that a lot in this book. Both Eb and Naomi show up for each other even though it's not an easy thing to do at first.
Eb goes into this with preconceived thoughts and at times has an issue seeing what's the truth. Some of that is how he feels about Naomi and his past with his feelings for her. As he learns how to deal with those feelings and sees what's right in his face they start to click
You can't help for feeling for Naomi and all she's been through. Her luck with people hasn't been the best. I don't want to give anything away so you'll just have to trust me on this that sometimes the people we think we can trust are not worth it.
I so enjoyed this one and was so glad about how it ended. It made me look forward to what will be next in the Ice Breaker world. Other than Hunter who's been in a few books this one didn't introduce anyone new. Food for thought. Now I can honestly say that this is a standalone but if you have to read them out of order and not go back to book one (not sure why you wouldn't) then at least start at the sister's story and read from there. I forgot to say that I'm a huge Dean fan from Supernatural, so I got Naomi.
Another AMAZING story in the Ice Breaker Cold Case series! Her husband is dead, on their wedding night, but did she kill him? Finally released from jail, Naomi Romano knows that she did not kill her husband, Hudson Wyatt. Former CIA Ebenezer “Eb” Jones, is going to prove that she did kill her husband, his former partner. When he first saw Naomi, he wanted her, but circumstances kept him away while Hudson made her his wife. Unaware of her tragic past and her medical condition, he finds her trying to get her dog back from a vicious criminal. He steps in to end the threat, but can she convince him that she didn’t kill her husband? When her home is set on fire, she knows that her smoke detectors should have worked, especially due to the care she takes after her parents died in a house fire. When they face off against a motorcycle gang intent on killing them, will help from his friend, Hunter, be enough to save them? She is falling in love with him, but is he still trying to get her to admit to the murder of her husband? As they eliminate threat after threat, they have no idea that someone from her husband’s past may be lurking in the background waiting to end her. Such amazing action, suspense and hot romance as he promises to keep her alive, for him, as she always should have been! I received an advance review copy at no cost and without obligation for an honest review. (paytonpuppy)
I've liked Cynthia Eden's books before and I liked this too. This is a fast-paced romantic suspense book full of twists and turns, romance, steam and plot twists I didn't see coming.
This is actually part 14 of a series, but works as a stand alone. I haven't read the previous parts of this series, but I definitely will!
WHAT I LIKED: I liked the romance of course! And there was so much action that there was no dull moments. It was easy to read and difficult to put down!
WHAT I DIDN’T LIKE: Somehow the main characters felt a bit distant, maybe because of the 3rd person pov's.
WHAT TO EXPECT:
Pov: dual, 3rd person Heat: open doors Pacing: instalust Communication: lots of secrets, but also healthy communication Third act: Ending:
Main characters: * Alpha Hero * Damsel in distress * Enemies to lovers
What? * Dirty talk * Forbidden love * Forced proximity * One night stand turned more
Drama? * Difficult past * Kidnapping
Other vibes: * Adorable animal companions * Dark vibes * ”Touch her and die”
-- I received this ARC from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
Lots of over-used tropes and a few boring sex scenes.
I used to love Cynthia Eden books and now they just seem to be the same book, regurgitated over and over again with different names slapped on the MCs.
The MMCs are the exact same. She really leans into the possessive, growly alpha male trope without much of the romance. This book really highlighted that - these men are obsessed but I don't think they love their partners.
I actually didn't hate the FMC. In some of the other books, they come off as whiny but Naomi was at least brazen at moments. Also, it was nice to see some disability representation.
The dog was the most interesting part of this story honestly.
I like Hunter but I'm hoping she doesn't change his personality in his own book. I've noticed that with past characters (Remi and Constantine come to mind immediately) where they're snarky and funny as side characters and then less so as the main characters in their books.
I don't know that I'm going to continue this series much longer. It feels like Eden has gotten so caught up in the popular TikTok/book community tropes and is just emulating them badly. Her books used to be much better in my opinion.
Ebenezer “Eb” Jones is a former CIA agent and he has come to Baton Rouge to get revenge on the person who killed his partner. Naomi Romano was married to Eb’s partner Hudson but he was killed on their wedding night. Naomi was arrested but they didn’t have enough evidence so she was released. Eb will lie and cheat to take Naomi’s life apart and take her down. But someone else is also after her. Her house is set on fire, then she’s accused of killing a biker. When Naomi finally breaks down, Eb believes her. Dangerous is all around them and it doesn’t care who it takes out with her.
I could not believe who the killer turned out to be! Action. Steamy. Suspense. Enemies to lovers. Eb has “blood on his hands “ and thinks happily ever after is not for him. Naomi has secrets and a dog that doesn’t leave her side. Awesome story. Love Mrs. Eden’s books. You can never go wrong.
Ice Cold Liar is the 14th book in the Ice Breaker Cold Case series. It can be read as a standalone, but I'd recommend reading at least the previous two books as they are Eb's twin brother's and sister's stories respectively. From the first to the last word, Eb and Naomi's romance gripped me by the throat and had me perched at the edge of my seat. Violence, deception, betrayal and danger are constantly sparring with attraction, tenderness and caring. Add in an adorable dog, loyal friends, decades-old secrets and you've got a compelling addition to this series. Before the cute HEA, there's a rollercoaster ride with shocking revelations and more than one surprise. Can't wait for the awesome Hunter to find his match soon! I was fortunate to have received an early copy and am leaving this review voluntarialy and honestly.
Ice Breaker Cold Case Romance, number 14, is just as exciting, suspenseful and steamy as the first book in this series. Ice Cold Liar by Cynthia Eden is a true play on words. Ebenezer “Eb” Jones is positive that Naomi Romano is a killer, now he wants revenge. He is ready to lie to get to the truth but is she a liar? Perhaps he has it all wrong.
I enjoy reading where a cocky strong male may need to apologize before a book is over. So who is the guilty party in this story? One edge of the seat book with suspense and romance where everyone is suspected until the guilty is caught. Danger is around every corner. The attraction and chemistry is hot, making the danger even greater, it seems. Ice Cold Liar is written as only Cynthia Eden can.
This is Ebenezer's story. In the last book, we met his twin brother, now its Eb's turn. And if Cynthia Eden can make a leading man with the name Ebenezer smokin' hot, then she can do anything. And she succeeds. Not only is Eb hot, hot for Naomi, who he thinks pulled a Karen Reed, and got away with murder, she takes a stone cold liar and makes him HOT.
This is a complex, complicated story, as it has to be with spies, double crosses and liars. Naomi and Eb are more anti-heroes and it works cuz they are cut from the same cloth. Recommend.
This review pertains to not only this book but the entire 14 book and 5-star series !!! The writing, the storylines. the characters, the romance, the banter and the epic mystery/suspense are just amazing. Each book is so well written and each can be read as a standalone with enough background provided for any recurring characters. If you're a fan of romantic suspense then definitely give this book and this series a read as I highly recommend them. Not everyday I 5 star each and every book in a series.
I really like Naomi and Eb as a couple. This book started interesting and continued until the end of the book. I really like how this author has her MC's meet/interact together right at the beginning so that we get their romance for the entirety of the book. The mystery of what happened to Naomi at the night of her wedding and the night her husband died is all very intriguing. Kept my attention the entire time. I also enjoyed watching their relationship grow. I highly recommend this book and series and can see me reading this again.
Ice Cold Liar is the 14th book in the Ice Breaker Cold case series by Cynthia Eden. I loved it! Wonderful characters and great dialogue! The banter between Eb and Naomi is hilarious and their chemistry is hot!! Both fighting against their feelings but they don’t stand a chance! The plot is suspenseful and I couldn’t figure out how it would end. Looking forward to read the next book in this awesome series! I received this arc from the author and this review is my honest opinion
i don’t think Cynthia pulls off the betrayal storylines very well. She’s had them in a couple of her books, and they are never the strongest entries. Just once I’d like there to be a 75% of the way through betrayal discovery, then they get through the big attack without the MFC forgiving or boning the MMC, then space between the two characters so she gets proof that he isn’t always a lying cunt. Ya know?
Have just completed the 14th.book of this series, and thoroughly enjoyed each one! Each book is set around an individual who may have a connection to the Ice Breakers, and as the story develops the connection expands. The characters are funny/likable/and complex, storylines fast moving and surprising, each book is a joy to read.
I have loved every Cynthia Eden book I've read. Wonderful characters, (including Hunter and Henry), love the his and her points of view, the humor and of course the romance. This book had me guessing "who done it" until the killer was revealed. Great job!! Please keep them coming!!!
This is such a good series and I thoroughly enjoy reading it. This is well written with lots of mystery and suspense. It was a real page turner, easy read. I loved the attraction between Naomi and Eb and how their relationship developed in trusting and believing. This is one of my favorite authors and genres. I hope we have more in this series.
Really more 2.5 than 3. I do enjoy this series but this wasn’t a fav. I did appreciate the disability representation. The “twist” just had me making faces. Also why was Naomi surprised that Eb came after her initially bc he did think she was guilty? He didn’t really hide that IMO. I am interested in who is going to catch Hunter’s eye as I expect him to be the next MMC to get a book.
From beginning to end, this book is an engaging read, full of puzzles and secrets that peel away layer by layer while someone is out to take the heroine’s life. A gripping story with just the right touch of romance and heat—I thoroughly enjoyed every single page. I volunteered to review an ARC of this book for NetGalley.
