A Billionaire Love Story #2

The Pretend Fiancé

Rate this book
"What if he didn’t have that company and that money, though? Would you still feel the same way about him?"
After Aiden Manning, the billionaire CEO, let me into his life, I thought our problems were over. And when he went down on one knee, in front of my parents and all our friends, I knew there was only one answer to his question.

Yes...

However, as soon as I started feeling secure in our relationship, an old figure from his past arrived. She wasn't interested in congratulating us, she was only interested in breaking the two of us apart, just as Henry had done last year.

I sacrificed so much to make our relationship work, and I'd do it all again. However, will the secrets that I have to keep from Aiden be our undoing?

Aiden and Gwen have been togther for a year and are newly engaged. But Aiden's aunt Beatrice has other ideas - she's worse then his father ever was, with her machinations and her determination to split the happy couple up. And Gwen desperately wants to earn her approval, so she's particularly suceptible ot Beatrice's manipulations, while Aiden just wants to get away from them. Then there's the handsome British reporter trying to tempt Gwen away from Aiden and the sexy co-worker and friend trying to seduce Aiden away from Gwen. It's a bit of a melodramatic cluster****.

Aiden is of course, still my favorite character and probably the most mature of all of them in the story. Which is still saying a bit. I wasn't totally thrilled with his reaction to his I really desperately wish he had a better heroine. Gwen is her typical, highschooler self. She over-reacts to everything, leaps to conclusions when and has just done something similar herself...guilty much? For all that she claims to know and love her man, she's astounded that Aiden doesn't realize that this OW wants him. This is the guy is so awkward around women - he's clueless about them. But she can't seem to remember that. She's childish about her parents who are childish right back. And what's with this getting all hot and lusty when Ben kisses her (even though she says she doesn't want it?) And she's so mature that instead of telling Aiden about it she runs off letting him continue thinking she doesn't want to marry him. She just frustrated me with her immaturity at every turn. Aiden was not so bright there at the end either . And did I miss it, or did we really never find out what that second contract was about? It's nice to see how this couple end up and that they come out stronger for it all, but I wish I'd liked Gwen a bit more...I still think Aiden deserves someone better.

I was not at all impressed with this story. I am not fond of reading about characters that appear weak. Aiden was cowardly when it came to his grandmother and kowtowed to her and his family's legacy. To me, he appeared unable to stand on his own two feet and stand up for his future with Gwen, letting that evil old bat get by with the humiliating things she did. That was inconceivable and ignorant on his part. TSTL!!`

Furthermore, I was troubled when Aiden had to work so hard to avoid Catherine's advances. He was dumbstruck by her body and beauty but had to work too darn hard on his self control if you ask me. He had to convince himself not to look at her almost naked body and later telling her that if it was another time and place they might have made it work together. If it was that much work to keep his eyes off of her body and his hands to himself perhaps he doesn't feel for Gwen the way he thinks he does. He was supposed to be in love with Gwen but, yet, gawked at another like a dog in heat. Gwen showed weakness as well. Her connection to the journalist was a bit too much. She told him that if it weren't for Aiden she might just have been with him. Aiden and Gwen were engaged when these things happened.

The story did not have a smooth flow and I did not connect with any of the characters in the book. If I had know the story was so detached and choppy I would not have read it.

Review of The Pretend Fiancé by Lucy Lambert

4 out of 5 stars

The Pretend Fiancé is the second book of the A Billionaire Love Story series. It continues with Gwen and Aiden’s story.

Although they had a rough start, Gwen and Aiden are right where they want to be: madly in love. So it is natural to go to the next step in their relationship.

However, there is someone from Aiden’s family who is dead set against their marriage and will do everything she can to stop it.

Gwen and Aiden are challenged at every turn. They struggle to keep sight of their love. Even through all the trials their love brings them back to each other.

I really enjoyed Aiden and Gwen’s story. I loved Aiden. At first he was a little to stiff and aloof, but now he has come full circle. However, Gwen is a different story. In this book I found her too dense sometimes. I know she is quite naive but sometimes it was just too annoying.

Overall a great read, and I would definitely recommend it.

While I loved discovering the progression of Gwen's & Aiden's story, this second book made me hate Gwen.

I found myself screaming at Gwen a good bit of the way while reading thinking that no one could be such an idiot and so naive. To me some of the choices she made were rather poor...but still I guess it made me love the story.

What disappointed me though was the ending...it was all going along so good then all of a sudden it was a race to the finish. The ending was too rushed for me. Overall a good story and easy to fall in love with.

This is one of those books you either love it or hate it. For me I am kinda in the middle. I felt Gwen was a little naïve and childish at times and Aiden an idiot for putting up with her. At the same time, I think Aiden's grandmother was just horrible and snooty. I did enjoy the "love conquers all theme", how Aiden and Gwen truly love each other. With saying all this, the book was just okay for me.

Lucy gets better and better

I enjoyed The Pretend Girlfriend but, The Pretend Fiance was so much better. I was on pins and needles until the end. I wasn't sure if there would be a HEA or not. I won't spoil it and tell you if there is, you will just have to read it yourself. You won't be disappointed in the end. It all works out for the best.

This book was not for me. I did not finish (15 %) but what I read was not enjoyable. The subcharacters were shallow and childish. This is unusual for me to give a less than satisfactory rating.

Second book

I enjoyed the second part to Gwen and Aidens story. The women in question was not who I thought it would be. But still a cute ending for there story.
