Rate this book
Librarian's note: Alternate cover edition of ASIN B00I11IFWU.

This book is intended for the beginner or those relatively new to the shamanic journey practice. It is drawn from the wisdom gained through my own experiences with the journey, plus more than a decade of teaching individuals and groups, and in workshops. It contains answers to the most common questions asked about Power Animals and Spirit Guides, as well as suggestions and insights gained over the years.

I've always thought (apparently mistakenly) that shamanism was confined to Native American culture, but one of the many things I learned in this book is that this ancient practice is utilized in different regions all over the world. In a nut shell, shamanism is based on the belief that the universe and every single thing in it, is made of Spirit. During a shamanic journey, one's guides come through with messages from Spirit that can be applied to one's life in order to achieve spiritual fulfillment. As Starnes mentions in the book, many believe that guardian angels essentially fill the role of spirit guides; however, in Shamanism, spirit guides often come forth in the form of an animal during a Shamanic journey. Different animals hold different symbolisms and the spirit guide's message often requires reflection and interpretation (much like a dream).

This is pretty fascinating stuff.

Author Garry Starnes takes a vast, complex subject and explains it in accessible, understandable terms. The narration performance by Charles Henderson Norman enhances and supports the material very well. I would recommend this book to anyone who is interested in learning about Shamanism and about Shamanic journeying specifically.

If you read the shamanic Journey this does repeat a bit of that. It was a good book though.
