I loved it!

A little weird, whimsical and unpredictable and that's the way I like picture books and Anita Lobel's illustrations are just glorious.
That's a book for keeping, for sure.
I have a big collection of picture books and every now and then I clear the shelves but this one is to stay.

It is a lot longer picture book than what you see today so we did split it into few readings as I have also 5yo with his own choices of books to read, but I wouldn't say it is too long. It is just long enough to tell the full story.

Fun fact no 1: Anita Lobel was born in Krakow, Poland, just like me and we were both born in June too which is pretty cool. After discovering her and some more of her books I had also ordered another of her books: On the Market Street as I love the illustrations so much.
Fun fact no2: My 8yo said the lady on the cover looks like my sister and he is not wrong!

Pomerantz's tale of a 19ft tall woman is a heartwarming fairytale. Mangaboom lives in a mango tree, enjoys fishing and skinny-dipping, and doesn't put up with shenanigans. Mangaboom is befriended by a local boy named Daniel with whom an unusual friendship blossoms. Pomerantz's book is a clear message about self-acceptance (something many students in our classrooms desperately need). This was one of my favorite stories as a child and remains such as a 25 year old woman. A bonus-- there a smatterings of Spanish throughout this book as this feminist giant is also bi-lingual.

Although my Mom tends to like feminist fairy tales like this, we both thought it was a little loooooong.
