⚫️"Major Thomás" is an incredibly imaginative and thought-provoking graphic novel that brilliantly weaves together elements of science fiction, surrealism, and philosophical musings. With a vibe reminiscent of David Bowie's "Space Oddity," this story follows an astronaut's descent not just into the vastness of space, but into the depths of human consciousness, memory, and identity.
⚫️From the very first panel, the artwork captivates you with its haunting beauty. The moody color palettes, surreal visuals, and rich symbolism infuse every page with emotion, turning this book into a sensory experience. Major Thomás, the protagonist, embodies not just an astronaut's journey, but also the themes of isolation, curiosity, and our relentless quest for meaning in a seemingly indifferent universe.
⚫️The storytelling is both poetic and circular, often blurring the lines between reality and imagination. Though the text is sparse, each word carries weight, allowing the narrative to resonate deeply. Readers embark on a cosmic adventure that feels intensely personal yet universally relatable.
⚫️This isn’t just a sci-fi tale it’s a psychological exploration. If you’re a fan of graphic novels, enjoy metaphysical stories, or are simply looking for something bold and fresh, "Major Thomás" will leave you pondering long after you turn the last page.
Highly recommended for lovers of reflective science fiction and art-centric storytelling.!
What I expected to be a story about a young astronaut’s journey to maturity exploded into a hilarious and still poignant adventure of epic sci-fi proportions. Extremely entertaining! (But that ending! What are you doing to me?!)
Action packed, fun, and with plenty of unexpected twists, MAJOR THOMÁS is a breath of fresh air that will sweep readers away. Omar Morales has written an exciting sci-fi story rooted in Latinx culture and set against the backdrop of hard-fought dreams and space exploration.
MAJOR THOMÁS follows the fiercely personal journey of Thomás Muñoz as he battles his own doubts and the racism around him. Omar doesn’t hold back any punches and a range of multifaceted characters, some whose hearts are full of of grace, others depravity, help bring the story to life. The art is detailed and vibrant and does a marvelous job of carrying the emotions (of which there are many!) off the page.
For Latinx readers, this story will make you dance in your seat and say “siganme los buenos!” (IYKYK). From the idioms, to the pop culture and history references, to the deeply human story centered around la familia—it’s all here, loud and proud.
Best of all, the story has weight, with choices leading to consequences that may very well impact the universe . . .
