Spoonerism: A Pocket Full of Mushrooms

Rate this book
Elliot Farnsworth was an unremarkable man living an unremarkable life in the early 2000s in Saint Paul, Minnesota—until he discovered that tapping the eraser of a pencil three times on metal mysteriously filled his pockets with mushrooms. While certainly a conversation starter, this newfound ability wasn't exactly life-changing. But when he accidentally teleports across town by slurping soup off a spoon, things take a turn for the profoundly weird.

As Elliot fumbles through his bizarre new talents—each more pointless and absurd than the last—he unwittingly attracts the attention of some very interested a secret government agency with a severe lack of funding, a self-proclaimed interdimensional travel enthusiast who’s mostly in it for the snacks, and a particularly grumpy man who insists Elliot owes him a sandwich from a reality that may or may not exist.

Armed only with an ever-growing list of ridiculous abilities and an alarming amount of fungi, Elliot embarks on a reality-hopping adventure through time, space, and places that defy the known laws of physics. He just has one Why spoons?

A comedic sci-fi adventure in the spirit of The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy and The Long Earth, A Pocket Full of Mushrooms is a story about fate, absurdity, and the undeniable power of cutlery.
