Pants, boots, mittens, and cap...Christmas Eve is here, and Santa is dressed and ready to go. But just as he heads to his sleigh—uh oh!—Santa finds himself in a predicament that any little kid knows well: He needs to make a pit stop! With foil on every spread and Tomie dePaola's beloved illustrations, this Christmas classic is "dressed up just in time for a spot underneath the Christmas tree.
Tomie dePaola and his work have been recognized with the Caldecott Honor Award, the Newbery Honor Award, the Laura Ingalls Wilder Award, and the New Hampshire Governor's Arts Award of Living Treasure.
Santa is supposed to be getting dressed so he can go deliver the toys. The animals help him because he is slow. Very humorous part near the end. I don't really like Santa, but this was okay.
Tomie dePaola does this kind of holiday board book very well. Christmas, Hanukah, Easter...Whatever the holiday, he knows how to build up excitement in children by walking them through some of the basic elements that make up their favorite seasonal celebrations. The books are also very re-readable, and have the potential to be passed down through families as a book cherished by each new generation of toddlers.
Plus, you don't have to be a toddler to enjoy the fine artwork of Tomie dePaola.
