At twenty-four-years old, Agnes felt she was headed for a spinster’s life. Being taller than most lads was a disadvantage, but she didn’t mind being the wallflower while her petite and pretty cousin drew men like a moth to a flame.
When Agnes fell for a tall Irishman’s charm, she thought she had found the love of her life. When Andrew asks Agnes to marry him, she has no idea where his proposal will lead them. Her Catholic father would not permit a Protestant son-in-law and he refused to listen to their pleading.
The young couple continue to meet in secret, but when Andrew decides to talk to Agnes’s father and try and win him around, none of them could have anticipated the outcome, or the repercussions of that fateful meeting.
War breaks out, giving a frightening and eventful backdrop to Agnes’s life of secrets and lies. She lives in fear of the truth emerging, to ruin the lives of her children, but eventually begins to feel that the truth may perhaps lead to her salvation.
Can she face up to her fears and disclose the secrets of her past?
Pearl writes for the love of words and often compares herself to a ballerina performing to an empty theatre. Reader reviews are the sound of the distant audience and each one is greatly appreciated.
Flitting between genres ensures Pearl's stories are always fresh and exciting. She has a wide ranging and eclectic author list from chick lit, historical romance, to science fiction and the paranormal.
Pearl has enjoyed success, in the past, with short story fiction, winning some national competitions. Her articles and stories have been published in popular magazines, both fiction and non-fiction, but in recent years she has concentrated on full length works.
She enjoys researching the past and is particularly interested in the First and Second World Wars, where many of her historical romances are set. She also loves the freedom of writing science fiction, but likes to construct her stories around scientific facts or theories.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. Based in wartime Britain, a story portraying life as it was and how matters of the heart was often overruled by societies ways and how things started to reverse and attitudes changed. Well written, a gentle pace that you can really get absorbed into. A must read for fans of romance, historical fiction and those not read this genre before. I'm so pleased to have found this author and am about to read another by her. This author writes in different genres so do give one of her books a go. You'll not be disappointed x
